The Prophet ﷺ said, "I stood at the gate of Paradise and saw that the majority of the people who entered it were the poor, while the wealthy were stopped at the gate (for the accounts). But the companions of the Fire were ordered to be taken to the Fire. Then I stood at the gate of the Fire and saw that the majority of those who entered it were women." (Using translation from Bukhārī 5196)   

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ «قُمْتُ عَلَى بَابِ الْجَنَّةِ فَإِذَا عَامَّةُ مَنْ يَدْخُلُهَا الْفُقَرَاءُ إِلَّا أَنَّ أَصْحَابَ الْجَدِّ مَحْبُوسُونَ إِلَّا أَهْلَ النَّارِ فَقَدْ أُمِرَ بِهِمْ إِلَى النَّارِ وَوَقَفْتُ عَلَى بَابِ النَّارِ فَإِذَا عَامَّةُ مَنْ دَخَلَهَا النِّسَاءُ»  

Recite the Qur'an as long as your hearts agree to do so, and when you feel variance between them (between your hearts and tongues), then get up (and leave its recital for the time being). (Using translation from Muslim 2667a)  

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «اقْرَءُوا الْقُرْآنَ مَا ائْتَلَفَتْ عَلَيْهِ قُلُوبُكُمْ فَإِذَا اخْتَلَفْتُمْ عَلَيْهِ فَقُومُوا»  

[Machine] I migrated to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ one day and heard two men disagreeing about a verse from the Book of Allah. He went out while anger could be seen on his face and said, "Indeed, those who came before you were destroyed because of their disagreements about the Book."  

هَجَّرْتُ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ ذَاتَ يَوْمٍ فَسَمِعَ رَجُلَيْنِ يَخْتَلِفَانِ فِي آيَةٍ مِنْ كِتَابِ اللهِ فَخَرَجَ وَالْغَضَبُ يُعْرَفُ فِي وَجْهِهِ فَقَالَ «إِنَّمَا هَلَكَ مَنْ كَانَ قَبْلَكُمْ بِاخْتِلَافِهِمْ فِي الْكِتَابِ»  

"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ had dispatched Abu 'Ubaidah bin Al-Jarrah, so he arrived with the wealth from Al-Bahrain. When the Ansar had heard of the arrival of Abu 'Ubaidah they were attending Salat Al-Fajr. So the the Messenger of Allah ﷺ performed the Salat and when he finished, they assembled before him. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ smiled when he saw them, then he said: 'I think that you heard that Abu 'Ubaidah has arrived with something?' They said: 'Yes O Messenger of Allah! 'He said: 'Then receive good news, and hope for what will please you. By Allah! It is not poverty that I fear for you, but what I fear for you is that the world will be presented for you just as it was presented for those before you,then you will compete for it, just as they competed for it, and it will destroy you, just as it destroyed them.' (Using translation from Tirmidhī 2462)  

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ بَعَثَ أَبَا عُبَيْدَةَ بْنِ الْجَرَّاحِ فَقَدِمَ بِمَالٍ مِنَ الْبَحْرَيْنِ وَسَمِعْتُ الْأَنْصَارََََُ بِقُدُومِ أَبِي عُبَيْدَةَ فَوَافَوْا صَلَاةَ الْفَجْرِ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَلَمَّا صَلَّى رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ انْصَرَفَ فَتَعَرَّضُوا لَهُ فَتَبَسَّمَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ حِينَ رَآهُمْ ثُمَّ قَالَ «أَظُنُّكُمْ سَمِعْتُمْ أَنَّ أَبَا عُبَيْدَةَ قَدِمَ بِشَيْءٍ؟» قَالَوا أَجَلْ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ قَالَ «فَأَبْشِرُوا وَأَمِّلُوا مَا يَسُرُّكُمْ فَوَاللهِ مَا الْفَقْرَ أَخْشَى عَلَيْكُمْ وَلَكِنِّي أَخْشَى أَنْ تُبْسَطَ الدُّنْيَا عَلَيْكُمْ كَمَا بُسِطَتْ عَلَى مَنْ قَبْلَكُم فَتَنَافَسُوهَا كَمَا تَنَافَسُوهَا فَتُهْلِكَكُمْ كَمَا أَهْلَكَتْهُمْ»  

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to a man while advising him, "Take advantage of five things before five: your youth before old age, your health before illness, your wealth before poverty, your free time before being occupied, and your life before death."  

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ لِرَجُلٍ وَهُوَ يَعِظُهُ اغْتَنِمْ خَمْسًا قَبْلَ خَمْسٍ شَبَابَكَ قَبْلَ هَرَمِكَ وَصِحَّتَكَ قَبْلَ سَقَمِكَ وَغِنَاكَ قَبْلَ فَقْرِكَ وَفَرَاغَكَ قَبْلَ شُغْلِكَ وَحَيَاتِكَ قَبْلَ مَوْتِكَ  

[Machine] A man from the people of Mecca said to me, "This is the dwelling place of your brother Tameem Ad-Daari. I saw him one night until the morning, either reciting a verse from the book of Allah while bowing, prostrating, and crying, or worried about the morning scene (i.e., the Day of Judgement), reciting the verse, 'Or do those who commit evil deeds think We will make them like those who have believed and done righteous deeds - [make them] equal in their life and their death? Evil is that which they judge.' [Al-Jathiyah 21]."  

قَالَ لِي رَجُلٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ مَكَّةَ هَذَا مَقَامُ أَخِيكِ تَمِيمٍ الدَّارِيِّ لَقَدْ رَأَيْتُهُ ذَاتَ لَيْلَةٍ حَتَّى أَصْبَحَ أَوْ كَرَبَ أَنْ يُصْبِحَ يَقْرَأُ آيَةً مِنْ كِتَابِ اللهِ يَرْكَعُ وَيَسْجُدُ وَيَبْكِي {أَمْ حَسِبَ الَّذِينَ اجْتَرَحُوا السَّيِّئَاتِ } [الجاثية 21] الْآيَةَ  

[Machine] I heard Zubayr ibn al-Awwam saying: Whoever is able to have a hidden righteous deed, let him do so.  

سَمِعْتُ الزُّبَيْرَ بْنَ الْعَوَّامِ يَقُولُ: مَنِ اسْتَطَاعَ أَنْ يَكُونَ لَهُ خَبِيٌّ مِنْ عَمِلٍ صَالِحٍ فَلْيَفْعَلْ  

[Machine] "If a person is in a desert, he should perform ablution (wudu). If he cannot find water, he should perform tayammum (dry ablution), then call the prayer, then establish it, then pray it, except for an army or group from the soldiers of Allah who should pray while standing." Abdullah said: Sufyan mentioned to me that Dawud mentioned to him from Abu Uthman from Salman, "They perform sujud (prostration) and ruku (bowing), and they have faith in their supplications."  

«إِذَا كَانَ الرَّجُلُ فِي أَرْضِ قِيٍّ فَتَوَضَّأَ فَإِنْ لَمْ يَجِدِ الْمَاءَ تَيَمَّمَ ثُمَّ يُنَادِي بِالصَّلَاةِ ثُمَّ يُقِيمُهَا ثُمَّ يُصَلِّيهَا إِلَّا أُمَّ مِنْ جُنُودِ اللهِ صَفًّا» قَالَ عَبْدُ اللهِ وَزَادَنِي سُفْيَانُ عَنْ دَاوُدَ عَنِ أَبِي عُثْمَانَ عَنْ سَلْمَانَ يَرْكَعُونَ بِرُكُوعِهِ وَيَسْجُدُونَ بِسُجُودِهِ وَيُؤْمِنُونَ عَلَى دُعَائِهِ  

[Machine] "I have come to know that I am bound for the fire, but I do not know if I am an inmate of it or not."  

عَبْدُ اللهِ «إِنِّي قَدْ عَلِمْتُ أَنِّي وَارِدٌ النَّارَ فَلَا أَدْرِي أَنَاجٍ مِنْهَا أُمْ لَا؟»  

[Machine] "So his wife said, 'O Abu Maisarah, indeed Allah has been kind to you by guiding you to Islam.' He said, 'Yes, but Allah has made it clear to us that we are destined for the Hellfire, but He has not made it clear to us that we will be saved from it.'"  

فَقَالَتِ امْرَأَتُهُ يَا أَبَا مَيْسَرَةَ إِنَّ اللهَ قَدْ أَحْسَنَ إِلَيْكَ هَدَاكَ لِلْإِسْلَامِ قَالَ «أَجَلْ وَلَكِنَّ اللهَ قَدْ بَيْنَ لَنَا أَنَّا وَارِدُونَ النَّارَ وَلَمْ يُبَيِّنْ لَنَا أَنَّا صَادِرُونَ مِنْهَا»  

[Machine] "They were raised in the righteousness of their father and no mention was made of their righteousness."  

«حُفِظَا بِصَلَاحِ أَبِيهِمَا وَلَمْ يَذْكُرْ مِنْهُمَا صَلَاحًا»  

[Machine] A man said to him, "Is it more amazing to you, a man with little work and few sins, or a man with much work and many sins?" He said, "I do not judge anything based on appearance."  

قَالَ لَهُ رَجُلٌ رَجُلٌ قَلِيلُ الْعَمَلِ قَلِيلُ الذُّنُوبِ أَعْجَبُ إِلَيْكِ أَوْ رَجُلٌ كَثِيرُ الْعَمَلِ كَثِيرُ الذُّنُوبِ؟ قَالَ «لَا أَعْدِلُ بِالسَّلَامَةِ شَيْئًا»  

[Machine] "The earth weeps for the believer for forty mornings."  

«تَبْكِي الْأَرْضُ عَلَى الْمُؤْمِنِ أَرْبَعِينَ صَبَاحًا»  

[Machine] "He said with his tongue, 'This provided me with resources.'"  

أَنَّهُ قَالَ لِلِسَانِهِ «هَذَا أَوْرَدَنِي الْمَوَارِدَ»  

[Machine] "The man indeed leaves his house with his religion, then he returns and he has nothing with him."  

«إِنَّ الرَّجُلَ لَيَخْرُجُ مِنْ بَيْتِهِ وَمَعَهُ دِينُهُ ثُمَّ يَرْجِعُ وَمَا مَعَهُ شَيْءٌ» الْحَدِيثَ  

[Machine] "By Allah, there is not one among you who will not meet with his Lord alone and then he will state, 'O son of Adam, what deceived you concerning Me? O son of Adam, what have you done with what you knew? O son of Adam, how have you responded to the messengers?'"  

وَاللهِ مَا مِنْكُمْ مِنْ أَحَدٍ إِلَّا سَيَخْلُو بِرَبِّهِ ثُمَّ يَقُولُ يَا ابْنَ آدَمَ مَا غَرَّكَ بِي؟ يَا ابْنَ آدَمَ مَاذَا عَمِلْتَ فِيمَا عَلِمْتَ؟ يَا ابْنَ آدَمَ مَاذَا أَجَبْتَ الْمُرْسَلِينَ؟  

[Machine] Abdullah was brought a drink, so he said, "Give it to someone else." He said, "I am fasting." He said, "Give it to Aswad." He said, "I am fasting." He said, "Give it to so-and-so." He said, "I am fasting." All of them said, "I am fasting." Abdullah said, "I am not fasting." So, he took it and drank it, then he said, "They fear a Day when hearts and eyes will be overturned." [Surah An-Noor, 37]  

أُتِيَ عَبْدُ اللهِ بِشَرَابٍ فَقَالَ «نَاوِلْ عَلْقَمَةَ» قَالَ إِنِّي صَائِمٌ قَالَ «نَاوِلِ الْأَسْوَدَ» قَالَ إِنِّي صَائِمٌ قَالَ «نَاوِلْ فُلَانًا» قَالَ إِنِّي صَائِمٌ فَكُلُّهُمْ يَقُولُ إِنِّي صَائِمٌ قَالَ عَبْدُ اللهِ إِنِّي لَسْتُ بِصَائِمٍ فَأَخَذَ فَشَرِبَ ثُمَّ قَالَ {يَخَافُونَ يَوْمًا تَتَقَلَّبُ فِيهِ الْقُلُوبُ وَالْأَبْصَارُ} [النور 37]  

[Machine] "To report everything he heard."  

أَنْ يُحَدِّثَ بِكُلِّ مَا سَمِعَ»  

[Machine] "Like a fly that passed by his nose."  

كَأَنَّهُ ذُبَابٌ مَرَّ عَلَى أَنْفِهِ»  

[Machine] "Abdullah said about this verse: 'Fear Allah as He deserves to be feared.' [Surah Al-Imran 102] He said: 'Fear Allah as He deserves to be feared means to obey Him and not disobey Him, to be grateful and not ungrateful, and to remember Him and not forget Him.' Abdullah said another time: 'And he gives wealth out of love for it.' [Surah Al-Baqarah 177] He said: 'And you are eager, stingy, longing for wealth, and afraid of poverty.'"  

عَبْدُ اللهِ فِي هَذِهِ الْآيَةِ {اتَّقُوا اللهَ حَقَّ تُقَاتِهِ} [آل عمران 102] قَالَ {حَقَّ تُقَاتِهِ} [آل عمران 102] «أَنْ يُطَاعَ فَلَا يُعْصَى وَأَنْ يَشْكُرَ فَلَا يُكَفِّرُ وَأَنْ يَذْكُرَ فَلَا يَنْسَى» قَالَ مُرَّةُ قَالَ عَبْدُ اللهِ {وَآتَى الْمَالَ عَلَى حُبِّهِ} [البقرة 177] قَالَ «وَأَنْتَ حَرِيصٌ شَحِيحٌ تَأْمُلُ الْغِنَى وَتَخْشَى الْفَقْرَ»  

[Machine] "Do you know where you are?"  

«أَتَدْرِي أَيْنَ أَنْتَ؟»  

[Machine] Abu Darda fainted, but then woke up to find his son Bilal beside him. He said, "Get up and leave me alone." Then he said, "Who will do the same work as me? Who will do the same as my watch?" [We will) turn their hearts and vision as they did not believe it the first time and let them wander blindly in their transgression." [Al-An'am 110]. After you die, he fainted, and then he remained unconscious for a while. Then he woke up and said the same thing. He kept repeating it until he passed away.  

أُغْمِيَ عَلَى أَبِي الدَّرْدَاءِ فَأَفَاقَ فَإِذَا بِلَالٌ ابْنُهُ عِنْدَهُ فَقَالَ قُمْ فَاخْرُجْ عَنِّي ثُمَّ قَالَ مَنْ يَعْمَلُ لِمِثْلِ مَضْجَعِي هَذَا؟ مَنْ يَعْمَلُ مِثْلَ سَاعَتِي هَذِهِ؟ {وَنُقَلِّبُ أَفْئِدَتَهُمْ وَأَبْصَارَهُمْ كَمَا لَمْ يُؤْمِنُوا بِهِ أَوَّلَ مَرَّةٍ وَنَذَرُهُمْ فِي طُغْيَانِهِمْ يَعْمَهُونَ} [الأنعام 110] أَبَيْتُمْ ثُمَّ يُغْمَى عَلَيْهِ فَيَلْبَثُ لَبْثًا ثُمَّ يُفِيقُ فَيَقُولُ مِثْلَ ذَلِكَ فَلَمْ يَزَلْ يُرَدِّدُهَا حَتَّى قُبِضَ  

[Machine] I asked Umm al-Darda, "Which form of worship did Abu Darda engage in the most?" She replied, "Reflection and contemplation."  

قُلْتُ لِأُمِّ الدَّرْدَاءِ أَيُّ عِبَادَةِ أَبِي الدَّرْدَاءِ كَانَتْ أَكْثَرَ؟ قَالَتْ «التَّفَكُّرُ وَالِاعْتِبَارُ»  

[Machine] "The graves have buried many people, if they saw me sitting with you, I would feel ashamed."  

«لَقَدْ وَارَتِ الْقُبُورُ أَقْوَامًا لَوْ رَأَوْنِي جَالِسًا مَعَكُمْ لَاسْتَحْيَيْتُ»  

[Machine] You are oblivious to the best form of worship, which is humility.  

إِنَّكُمْ لَتُغْفُلُونَ أَفْضَلَ الْعِبَادَةِ التَّوَاضُعَ  

[Machine] Aisha wrote to Muawiyah: After this, fear Allah, for if you fear Allah, it will be sufficient for you in dealing with people. But if you fear people, they will not benefit you at all against Allah.  

كَتَبْتْ عَائِشَةُ إِلَى مُعَاوِيَةَ أَمَا بَعْدُ فَاتَّقِ اللهَ فَإِنَّكَ إِنِ اتَّقَيْتَ اللهَ كَفَاكَ النَّاسَ وَإِنِ اتَّقَيْتَ النَّاسَ لَمْ يَغْنَوْا عَنْكَ مِنَ اللهِ شَيْئًا  

[Machine] "Do not look at the smallness of the sin, but rather look at whom you have disobeyed."  

«لَا تَنْظُرْ إِلَى صِغَرِ الْخَطِيئَةِ وَلَكِنِ انْظُرْ مَنْ عَصَيْتَ»  

[Machine] I noticed them mingling among the objects and laughing with each other. When night fell, they turned into monks.  

«أَدْرَكْتُهُمْ يَشْتَدُّونَ بَيْنَ الْأَغْرَاضِ وَيَضْحَكُ بَعْضُهُمْ إِلَى بَعْضٍ فَإِذَا كَانَ اللَّيْلُ كَانُوا رُهْبَانًا»  

[Machine] If you want something good, do not postpone it for tomorrow. And if you are engaged in a matter of the hereafter, stay as long as you can. And if you are in a worldly matter, focus on it. And when you pray, the devil says, "You are being delusional." So, multiply it in length.  

إِذَا أَرَدْتَ أَمْرًا مِنَ الْخَيْرِ فَلَا تُؤَخِّرْهُ لِغَدٍ وَإِذَا كُنْتَ فِي أَمَرِ آخِرَةٍ فَامْكُثْ مَا اسْتَطَعْتَ وَإِذَا كُنْتَ فِي أَمَرِ الدُّنْيَا فَتَوَجَّهْ وَإِذَا كُنْتَ تُصَلِّي فَقَالَ الشَّيْطَانُ إِنَّكَ تُرَائِي فَزِدْهَا طَوْلًا  

[Machine] I heard Al-Hasan saying, "Indeed, a person may commit a sin and continue to feel remorseful until they enter Paradise."  

سَمِعْتُ الْحَسَنَ يَقُولُ «إِنَّ الْعَبْدَ لَيُذْنِبُ الذَّنْبَ فَمَا يَزَالُ بِهِ كَئِيبًا حَتَّى يَدْخُلَ الْجَنَّةَ»  

[Machine] "The believer is self-disciplined, holding himself accountable for the sake of Allah." - Hadith  

«الْمُؤْمِنُ قَوَّامٌ عَلَى نَفْسِهِ يُحَاسِبُ نَفْسَهُ لِلَّهِ» الْحَدِيثَ  

[Machine] "To play"  

أَنْ تَلْعَبَ»  

[Machine] A group of people from the people of Paradise go to a group of people from the people of Hellfire and say, "What caused you to enter the Hellfire while we entered Paradise by your training and teaching?" They replied, "We used to command you to do good but we did not do it ourselves.  

يَطْلُعُ قَوْمٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْجَنَّةِ إِلَى قَوْمٍ أَهْلِ النَّارِ فَيَقُولُونَ مَا أَدْخَلَكُمُ النَّارَ فَإِنَّا أُدْخِلْنَا الْجَنَّةَ بِفَضْلِ تَأْدِيبِكُمْ وَتَعْلِيمِكُمْ؟ فَقَالَوا إِنَّا كُنَّا نَأْمُرُكُمْ بِالْخَيْرِ وَلَا نَفْعَلُهُ  

[Machine] "There is no servant who prostrates to Allah in a prostration in any place on the Earth except that it will bear witness for him on the Day of Judgment, and it will cry for him on the day he dies."  

«مَا مِنْ عَبْدٍ يَسْجُدُ لِلَّهِ سَجْدَةً فِي بُقْعَةٍ مِنْ بِقَاعِ الْأَرْضِ إِلَّا شَهِدَتْ لَهُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ وَبَكَتْ عَلَيْهِ يَوْمَ يَمُوتُ»  

[Machine] Say to him, "On you is what remains for you with Allah. Indeed, what remains with Allah remains with the people, and what does not remain with Allah does not remain with the people."  

قُلْ لَهُ «عَلَيْكًَ بِالَّذِي يَبْقَى لَكَ عِنْدَ اللهِ فَإِنَّ مَا بَقِيَ عِنْدَ اللهِ بَقِيَ عِنْدَ النَّاسِ وَمَا لَمْ يَبْقَ عِنْدَ اللهِ لَمْ يَبْقَ عِنْدَ النَّاسِ»  

[Machine] "It prevents me from speaking too much out of fear of showing off."  

«إِنَّهُ لَيَمْنَعُنِي مِنْ كَثِيرِ الْكَلَامِ مَخَافَةُ الْمُبَاهَاةِ»  

[Machine] You are told about stumbling and not being able to go back and no one praises you for what you left behind and no one excuses you for what you have been busy with and peace be upon you."  

تُقَالُ لَكَ الْعَثْرَةُ وَلَا تُمَكَّنَ مِنَ الرَّجْعَةِ وَلَا يَحْمَدُكَ مَنْ خَلَّفْتَ بِمَا تَرَكْتَ وَلَا يَعْذُرُكَ مَنْ تُقْدِمَ عَلَيْهِ بِمَا اشْتَغَلْتَ بِهِ وَالسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ»  

[Machine] Amr bin Utbah bin Farqad used to go out on his horse at night and stand by the graves, then he would say, "O people of the graves, have the scrolls been folded? Have the deeds been lifted up?" Then he would cry and then lie down between his legs until morning, then he would return and witness the Fajr prayer.  

كَانَ عَمْرو بْنُ عُتْبَةَ بْنِ فَرْقَدٍ يَخْرُجُ عَلَى فَرَسِهِ لَيْلًا فَيَقِفُ عَلَى الْقُبُورِ فَيَقُولُ يَا أَهْلَ الْقُبُورِ أَقَدْ طُوِيَتِ الصُّحُفُ؟ أَقَدْ رُفِعَتِ الْأَعْمَالُ؟ ثُمَّ يَبْكِي ثُمَّ يُصْفِنُ بَيْن قَدَمَيْهِ حَتَّى يُصْبِحَ فَيَرْجِعَ فَيَشْهَدَ صَلَاةَ الصُّبْحِ  

[Machine] "Verily, Allah repairs with the righteousness of His servant, his child and his grandchild, and He keeps him in his dwelling, and in the dwellings that surround it, as long as they are righteous."  

«إِنَّ اللهَ لِيُصْلِحُ بِصَلَاحِ الْعَبْدِ وَلَدَهُ وَوَلَدَ وَلَدِهِ وَيَحْفَظُهُ فِي دُوَيْرَتِهِ وَالدُّوَيْرَاتِ الَّتِي حَوْلَهَا مَا دَامَ فِيهِمْ»  

[Machine] "To find poetry in my notebook."  

أَنْ أَجِدَ فِي صَحِيفَتِي شِعْرًا»  

[Machine] "What was stolen cannot be found except for his legs, swollen from the prolonged standing in prayer," she said, "By Allah, if I were to sit behind him, I would weep out of mercy for him."  

مَا كَانَ مَسْرُوقٌ يُوجَدُ إِلَّا وَسَاقَاهُ قَدِ انْتَفَخَتَا مِنْ طُولِ الْقِيَامِ فِي الصَّلَاةِ قَالَتْ وَاللهِ إِنْ كُنْتُ لِأَجْلِسُ خَلْفَهُ فَأَبْكِي رَحْمَةً لَهُ  

[Machine] "The example of those who call upon [i.e., worship] other than Allah is like that of the spider who takes [i.e., builds] a home. And indeed, the weakest of homes is the spider's home."  

«مَثَلُ الَّذِي يَدْعُو بِغَيْرِ عَمِلٍ كَمَثَلِ الَّذِي يَرْمِي بِغَيْرِ وِتْرٍ»  

[Machine] "To remove the mountain, he would remove it."  

أَنْ يُزِيلَ الْجَبَلَ لَأَزَالَهُ»
