The Prophet ﷺ said, "No slave (of Allah) should say that I am better than Yunus bin Matta." So the Prophet mentioned his father's name with his name.

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ مَا يَنْبَغِي لِعَبْدٍ أَنْ يَقُولَ إِنِّي خَيْرٌ مِنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ مَتَّى وَنَسَبَهُ إِلَى أَبِيهِ

The Prophet ﷺ said, "None should say that I am better than Yunus bin Matta."

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ لاَ يَنْبَغِي لِعَبْدٍ أَنْ يَقُولَ أَنَا خَيْرٌ مِنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ مَتَّى

The Prophet ﷺ said, "None has the right to say that I am better than Jonah bin Matta."

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ مَا يَنْبَغِي لأَحَدٍ أَنْ يَقُولَ أَنَا خَيْرٌ مِنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ مَتَّى

The Prophet ﷺ said, "Nobody has the rights to say that I am better than Jonah bin Matta."

حَدَّثَنِي ابْنُ عَمِّ نَبِيِّكُمْ يَعْنِي ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ ؓ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ مَا يَنْبَغِي لِعَبْدٍ أَنْ يَقُولَ أَنَا خَيْرٌ مِنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ مَتَّى

The Prophet ﷺ said, "Nobody has the right to say that I am better than Jonah bin Matta."

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ مَا يَنْبَغِي لِعَبْدٍ أَنْ يَقُولَ أَنَا خَيْرٌ مِنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ مَتَّى

The Prophet ﷺ said that his Lord said: "It does not befit a slave that he should say that he is better than Jonah (Yunus) bin Matta.

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فِيمَا يَرْوِيهِ عَنْ رَبِّهِ قَالَ لاَ يَنْبَغِي لِعَبْدٍ أَنْ يَقُولَ إِنَّهُ خَيْرٌ مِنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ مَتَّى وَنَسَبَهُ إِلَى أَبِيهِ

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ, while narrating his night journey observed: Musa (peace be upon him) was a man of high stature as if he was of the people of the Shanu'a (tribe), and Jesus was a well-built person having curly hair. He also mentioned Malik, the guardian of Hell, and Dajjal.

حَدَّثَنِي ابْنُ عَمِّ نَبِيِّكُمْ ﷺ يَعْنِي ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ ذَكَرَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ حِينَ أُسْرِيَ بِهِ فَقَالَ مُوسَى آدَمُ طُوَالٌ كَأَنَّهُ مِنْ رِجَالِ شَنُوءَةَ وَقَالَ عِيسَى جَعْدٌ مَرْبُوعٌ وَذَكَرَ مَالِكًا خَازِنَ جَهَنَّمَ وَذَكَرَ الدَّجَّالَ

The son of the uncle of your Prophet ﷺ, i. e. Ibn Abbas, reported Messenger of Allah ﷺ as saying: It is not meet for a servant that he should say: I am better than Yunus b. Matta (and this Matta) is the name of his father.

حَدَّثَنِي ابْنُ عَمِّ نَبِيِّكُمْ ﷺ يَعْنِي ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ مَا يَنْبَغِي لِعَبْدٍ أَنْ يَقُولَ أَنَا خَيْرٌ مِنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ مَتَّى وَنَسَبَهُ إِلَى أَبِيهِ

It is not fitting for a servent to say that I (The Prophet) is better than Jonah son of Matta.

[AI] "I heard the cousin of your Prophet ﷺ , Ibn Abbas, narrating from the Prophet ﷺ that Bahz said: Shu'bah informed me, Qatadah told me, and Abu Al-'Aliyah said: The cousin of your Prophet ﷺ , Ibn Abbas, told me that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: It is not appropriate for a servant to say that they are better than Yunus bin Matta and attribute it to his father."

سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ عَمِّ نَبِيِّكُمْ ﷺ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَبَهْزٌ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ أَخْبَرَنِي قَتَادَةُ عَنْ أَبِي الْعَالِيَةِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي ابْنُ عَمِّ نَبِيِّكُمْ ﷺ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ مَا يَنْبَغِي لِعَبْدٍ قَالَ عَفَّانُ عَبْدٍ لِي أَنْ يَقُولَ أَنَا خَيْرٌ مِنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ مَتَّى وَنَسَبَهُ إِلَى أَبِيهِ

[AI] Ibn 'Amr, the cousin of your prophet ﷺ , narrated: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Allah said: It is not appropriate for a servant to claim superiority over Yunus bin Matta and his lineage to his father." He also mentioned that he know he was taken up (on a journey) and that he saw Musa, ﷺ , extensively as if he was from the men of the Shaniyyah tribe. He also mentioned that he saw Isa bent (leaning) towards the reddish and white shades and that he saw the Dajjal and Maalik, the keeper of Hellfire.

حَدَّثَنِي ابْنُ عَمِّ نَبِيِّكُمْ ﷺ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ اللهُ ﷻ مَا يَنْبَغِي لِعَبْدٍ أَنْ يَقُولَ أَنَا خَيْرٌ مِنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ مَتَّى وَنَسَبَهُ إِلَى أَبِيهِ قَالَ وَذَكَرَ أَنَّهُ أُسْرِيَ بِهِ وَأَنَّهُ رَأَى مُوسَى عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ آدَمَ طُوَالًا كَأَنَّهُ مِنْ رِجَالِ شَنُوءَةَ وَذَكَرَ أَنَّهُ رَأَى عِيسَى مَرْبُوعًا إِلَى الْحُمْرَةِ وَالْبَيَاضِ جَعْدًا وَذَكَرَ أَنَّهُ رَأَى الدَّجَّالَ وَمَالِكًا خَازِنَ النَّارِ

[AI] Narrated by the cousin of your Prophet ﷺ , he said: It is not proper for a servant to say that he is better than Yunus ibn Matta, attributing his lineage to his father. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ mentioned this when he was taken on the Night Journey, and he said: "Musa (Moses) is tall, as if he belonged to the men of Shanu'a, and 'Isa (Jesus) has curly hair, and he mentioned Malik as the custodian of Hell, and he mentioned the Dajjal (Antichrist)."

حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ عَمِّ نَبِيِّكُمْ ﷺ قَالَ مَا يَنْبَغِي لِعَبْدٍ أَنْ يَقُولَ أَنَا خَيْرٌمِنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ مَتَّى وَنَسَبَهُ إِلَى أَبِيهِ وَذَكَرَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ حِينَ أُسْرِيَ بِهِ فَقَالَ مُوسَى آدَمُ طُوَالٌ كَأَنَّهُ مِنْ رِجَالِ شَنُوءَةَ وَقَالَ عِيسَى جَعْدٌ مَرْبُوعٌ وَذَكَرَ مَالِكًا خَازِنَ جَهَنَّمَ وَذَكَرَ الدَّجَّالَ

[AI] The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said, "It is not appropriate for anyone to say that they are better than Yunus ibn Matta, who was attributed to his father and then committed a sin, but his Lord chose him."

Note: The Arabic phrase "ﷺ" is a religious symbol that stands for "peace be upon him" and is often added after mentioning the name of the Prophet Muhammad.

[AI] I was informed by the cousin of your prophet, ﷺ , meaning Ibn Abbas, who said that the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , said: "I saw during the night of my ascension, Musa ibn Imran, ﷺ , a man of medium height, with curly hair as if he was from the people of Shanu'ah. And I saw Jesus, son of Mary, ﷺ , a man with red and white complexion, his hair was wavy. And I saw Malik, the guardian of Hellfire. And I saw the false messiah, in signs that Allah showed me."

حَدَّثَنِي ابْنُ عَمِّ نَبِيِّكُمْ ﷺ يَعْنِي ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ رَأَيْتُ لَيْلَةَ أُسْرِيَ بِي مُوسَى بْنَ عِمْرَانَ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ رَجُلٌ آدَمُ طُوَالٌ جَعْدٌ كَأَنَّهُ مِنْ رِجَالِ شَنُوءَةَ وَرَأَيْتُ عِيسَى ابْنَ مَرْيَمَ رَجُلٌ مَرْبُوعٌ إِلَى الْحُمْرَةِ وَالْبَيَاضِ سَبِطُ الرَّأْسِ وَرَأَيْتُ مَالِكًا خَازِنَ النَّارِ وَرَأَيْتُ الدَّجَّالَ فِي آيَاتٍ أَرَانِيهِنَّ اللهُ ﷻ
