ahmad:380Yaḥyá b. Saʿīd > Hishām > Abīʾan ʿUmar

My father told me that ‘Umar bin al-Khattab ؓ said to the [Black] Stone; You are only a stone; were it not that I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ kiss you, I would not have kissed you. Then he kissed it.  

أحمد:٣٨٠حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ هِشَامٍ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي أَبِيأَنَّ عُمَرَ قَالَ

لِلْحَجَرِ إِنَّمَا أَنْتَ حَجَرٌ وَلَوْلا أَنِّي رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يُقَبِّلُكَ مَا قَبَّلْتُكَ ثُمَّ قَبَّلَهُ

"I saw Umar coming to the Stone and saying: 'I know that you are just a stone; had I not seen the Messenger of Allah kiss you I would not have kissed you.' Then he came close to it and kissed it." (Sahih) Chpater 148. How to Kiss It  

النسائي:٢٩٣٧أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ قَالَ أَنْبَأَنَا عِيسَى بْنُ يُونُسَ وَجَرِيرٌ عَنِ الأَعْمَشِ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ عَابِسِ بْنِ رَبِيعَةَ قَالَ رَأَيْتُ عُمَرَ جَاءَ إِلَى الْحَجَرِ فَقَالَ

إِنِّي لأَعْلَمُ أَنَّكَ حَجَرٌ وَلَوْلاَ أَنِّي رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقُبِّلُكَ مَا قَبَّلْتُكَ ثُمَّ دَنَا مِنْهُ فَقَبَّلَهُ  

malik:20-119Yaḥyá > Mālik > Hishām b. ʿUrwah from his father > ʿUmar b. al-Khaṭṭāb

Yahya related to me from Malik from Hisham ibn Urwa from his father that Umar ibn al-Khattab said to the corner of the Black Stone while he was doing tawaf of the House, "You are only a stone, and if I had not seen the Messenger of Allah ﷺ kiss you, I would not do so." Then he kissed it. Malik said, "I have heard some of the people of knowledge recommending someone doing tawaf of the House to put his hand to his mouth when he takes it from the Yamani corner."  

مالك:٢٠-١١٩حَدَّثَنِي يَحْيَى عَنْ مَالِكٍ عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ أَنَّ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ

قَالَ وَهُوَ يَطُوفُ بِالْبَيْتِ لِلرُّكْنِ الأَسْوَدِ إِنَّمَا أَنْتَ حَجَرٌ وَلَوْلاَ أَنِّي رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَبَّلَكَ مَا قَبَّلْتُكَ ثُمَّ قَبَّلَهُ  

ahmad:325Muḥammad b. ʿUbayd > al-Aʿmash > Ibrāhīm > ʿĀbis b. Rabīʿah Qālaraʾayt ʿUmar Atá al-Ḥajar

I saw ʿUmar go to the Black Stone and say: By Allah, I know that you are a stone and cannot cause harm or bring benefit. Were it not that I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ kiss you, I would not have kissed you. Then he leant down and kissed it.  

أحمد:٣٢٥حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ عَابِسِ بْنِ رَبِيعَةَ قَالَرَأَيْتُ عُمَرَ أَتَى الْحَجَرَ فَقَالَ

أَمَا وَاللهِ إِنِّي لَأَعْلَمُ أَنَّكَ حَجَرٌ لَا تَضُرُّ وَلا تَنْفَعُ وَلَوْلا أَنِّي رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَبَّلَكَ مَا قَبَّلْتُكَ ثُمَّ دَنَا فَقَبَّلَهُ

I know that you are only a stone and you cannot cause harm or bring benefit. Were it not that I saw the Messenger of Allah( ﷺ )kiss you, I would not have kissed you. Then he kissed it.

قَدْ عَلِمْتُ أَنَّكَ حَجَرٌ وَلَوْلا أَنِّي رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَبَّلَكَ مَا قَبَّلْتُكَ

I saw 'Umar look at the Black Stone and say: By Allah, were it not that I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ kiss you, I would not have kissed you. Then he kissed it.  

أحمد:٩٩حَدَّثَنَا أَسْوَدُ بْنُ عَامِرٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرٌ عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ الْأَعْمَشِ حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ عَنْ عَابِسِ بْنِ رَبِيعَةَ قَالَرَأَيْتُ عُمَرَ نَظَرَ إِلَى الْحَجَرِ فَقَالَ

أَمَا وَاللهِ لَوْلا أَنِّي رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يُقَبِّلُكَ مَا قَبَّلْتُكَ ثُمَّ قَبَّلَهُ  

ذِكْرُ اسْتِحْبَابِ تَقْبِيلِ الْحَجَرِ الْأَسْوَدِ لِلطَّائِفِ حَوْلَ الْبَيْتِ الْعَتِيقِ

ابن حبّان:٣٨٢١أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ قُتَيْبَةَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا حَرْمَلَةُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا يُونُسُ عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ عَنْ سَالِمِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ أَنَّ أَبَاهُ حَدَّثَهُ قَالَ قَبَّلَ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ الْحَجَرَ ثُمَّ قَالَ

«وَاللَّهِ لَقَدْ عَلِمْتُ أَنَّكَ حَجَرٌ وَلَوْلَا أَنِّي رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يُقَبِّلُكَ مَا قَبَّلْتُكَ»
