I know that you are only a stone and you cannot cause harm or bring benefit. Were it not that I saw the Messenger of Allah( ﷺ )kiss you, I would not have kissed you. Then he kissed it. (Using translation from Aḥmad 381)   

الكبرى للنسائي:٣٩٠٨أَخْبَرَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ سَعِيدِ بْنِ كَثِيرِ بْنِ دِينَارٍ الْحِمْصِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا الْوَلِيدُ هُوَ ابْنُ مُسْلِمٍ عَنْ حَنْظَلَةَ هُوَ ابْنُ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ قَالَ رَأَيْتُ طَاوُسًا وَهُوَ ابْنُ كَيْسَانَ يَمُرُّ بِالرُّكْنِ فَإِنْ وَجَدَ عَلَيْهِ زِحَامًا مَرَّ وَلَمْ يُزَاحِمْ وَإِنْ رَآهُ خَالِيًا قَبَّلَهُ ثَلَاثًا ثُمَّ قَالَ رَأَيْتُ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ فَعَلَ مِثْلَ ذَلِكَ ثُمَّ قَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ رَأَيْتُ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ فَعَلَ مِثْلَ ذَلِكَ ثُمَّ قَالَ

إِنَّكَ حَجَرٌ لَا تَنْفَعُ وَلَا تَضُرُّ «وَلَوْلَا أَنِّي رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَبَّلَكَ مَا قَبَّلْتُكَ» ثُمَّ قَالَ عُمَرُ رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَعَلَ مِثْلَ ذَلِكَ

ʿUmar came near the Black Stone and kissed it and said "No doubt, I know that you are a stone and can neither benefit anyone nor harm anyone. Had I not seen Messenger of Allah ﷺ kissing you I would not have kissed you."

Abis bin Rabi’ah said on the authority of ‘Umar He(‘Umar) came to the (Black) Stone and said “ I know for sure that you are a stone which can neither benefit nor injure and had I not seen the Apostle of Allaah ﷺ kissing you, I would not have kissed you.”

“I saw the bald forehead of ‘Umar bin Khattab when he kissed the Black Stone and said: ‘I am kissing you, although I know that you are only a stone and you can neither cause harm nor bring benefit. Had I not seen the Messenger of Allah ﷺ kissing you, I would not have kissed you.’”

I saw ʿUmar go to the Black Stone and say: By Allah, I know that you are a stone and cannot cause harm or bring benefit. Were it not that I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ kiss you, I would not have kissed you. Then he leant down and kissed it.  

أحمد:٣٢٥حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ عَابِسِ بْنِ رَبِيعَةَ قَالَرَأَيْتُ عُمَرَ أَتَى الْحَجَرَ فَقَالَ
