Limits on bequest and reward for spending on one's family
[AI] The Prophet ﷺ entered upon him to visit him while he was ill in Makkah. I said, "O Messenger of Allah, should I bequeath all my wealth?" He said, "No." I said, "Then half?" He said, "No." I said, "Then one-third?" He said, "One-third, and one-third is great or much. Leaving your heir wealthy is better than leaving him poor, begging from people. Whatever you spend on your family as maintenance, you will be rewarded for it, even the morsel you raise to your wife's mouth." He said: At that time, he had only one daughter. Saad mentioned the Hijrah, and he said, "May Allah have mercy on Ibn Afra, and perhaps Allah will raise you so that some people will benefit through you and others will be harmed through you."
