11. Anṣār (9/12)
[Machine] "Abu Dharr said: On every day that the sun rises, there is a charity from him (Abu Dharr) for himself. I (the narrator) said: O Messenger of Allah, where can I give charity when we do not have wealth? He said: It is charity to say 'Subhan Allah', 'Alhamdulillah', 'La ilaha illallah', 'Astaghfirullah', and to enjoin good and forbid evil, to remove harmful objects from people's paths, bones, and stones, and to guide the blind and give hearing to the deaf and mute until they understand, and to guide the one who is in need of guidance and you know the place of his need, and strive vigorously with your feet towards one seeking help, and raise your arms intensely with the weak. All of these acts are charity from you for yourself, and in your intimacy with your spouse there is reward for you.' Abu Dharr said: How can there be reward for me in my sexual desire? The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Have you not seen that if you had a child, and he reached the age of discernment and you hoped for his goodness, then he died, would you not be rewarded for him? I said: Yes. He (the Prophet) said: Did you create him? I said: No, Allah created him. He said: Did you guide him? I said: No, Allah guided him. He said: Did you provide for him? I said: No, Allah provided for him. He said: Likewise, put him in his lawful place and protect him from his unlawful place. If Allah wills, He will keep him alive, and if Allah wills, He will cause him to die. And you will have reward."

[Machine] "Give glad tidings to the hoarders of tears in their foreheads, tears in their backs, and tears in their southern regions. Then he stepped back to a banner and prayed behind it two units (rak'ahs). So I said: Who is this? It was said: This is Abu Dharr. So I said to him: What thing did I hear you calling for? He said: I did not say anything to them except something I heard from their Prophet ﷺ. So I said to him: May Allah have mercy on you, I used to take gifts from 'Umar, so what do you think? He said: Take it, for today it contains assistance, and it is about to become a debt. So if it becomes a debt, then refuse it."

[Machine] Abu Naama Al-Saadi narrated to us, and he mentioned it with its chain and its meaning. He did not mention anything except what he heard from their Prophet ﷺ . I do not see any benefits except confusion, and he went to the narration of Abi Al-Ashhab because Afan added to it and we did not have it.
[Machine] I said, "O Messenger of Allah, advise me." He said, "If you commit a sin, follow it with a good deed to erase it." I said, "O Messenger of Allah, are good deeds sufficient to enter Paradise?" He said, "They are the best of deeds."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , said: Allah says, "Whoever does a good deed will have ten times its reward or even more. And whoever does an evil deed, his punishment will be equal to it or I will forgive it. And whoever approaches Me by a hand span, I will approach him by an arm's length. And whoever approaches Me by an arm's length, I will approach him by a fathom. And whoever comes to Me walking, I will come to him running."
The Prophet ﷺ said: The best things with which grey hair are changed are henna and katam. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 4205)
[Machine] To me, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "O Abu Dharr, there will be rulers over you who will delay the prayer from its appointed time. If you happen to catch them, then pray the prayer at its time. And perhaps he mentioned during your journey, then approach them. If you find that they have already prayed, then you have indeed prayed. But if you find that they have not prayed, then you should pray with them, and it will be a voluntary prayer for you."
"I come to the Prophet while he was sitting in the shade of the Ka'bah. When he saw me coming he said: 'They are the losers, by the Lord of the Ka'bah!' I said: 'what's happening? Perhaps something has been revealed concerning me.' I said: 'Who are they, may my father said mother be ransomed for you?' He said: "those who have a lot of wealth, except one who does like this, and like this, and like this,' (motioning) in front of him, and to his right, and to his left. Then he said: 'By the One in Whose hand is my soul, no man dies leaving camels, or cattle, or sheep on which he did not pay the Zakah, but they will come on the Day of Resurrection as big and fat as they ever were, trampling him with their hooves and goring him with their horns. Every time the last of them runs over him, the first of them will come back, until judgment is passed among the people."' (Using translation from Nasāʾī 2440)

" I know the last of the people of the Fire to depart from the Fire and the last of the people of Paradise to enter Paradise. A man will be brought forth and He ﷺ will say: 'Ask about his small sins and hide his large sins.' So it will be said to him: 'Did you do this and that on such and such a day, did you do this and that on such- and – such a day?'” He said: “Then it will be said to him; 'For each of your sins you shall have a reward.'” He ﷺ said: “So he will say: 'O Lord! I have done things that I do not see here.'” He (Abu Dharr) said: “I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ laugh until his molars were visible.” (Sahih) (Using translation from Tirmidhī 2596)
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "O Abu Dharr, lift up your gaze and look to the highest person whom you see in the mosque." He said, "So I looked, and I saw a man sitting with an air of pride." He said, "So I said, 'This one?'" He said, "He said, 'O Abu Dharr, lift up your gaze and look to the lowest person whom you see in the mosque.'" He said, "So I looked, and I saw a weak man with good manners." He said, "So I said, 'This one?'" He said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'I swear by the One in whose hand is my soul, this one is more beloved to Allah on the Day of Resurrection than the closest person to the Earth of this kind.'"
[Machine] "The Prophet ﷺ said: The people among my Ummah who have the most intense love for me are a group who will come after me. One of them would wish that they had given their wealth and life just to have seen me."
[Machine] "So, I heard Abu Dharr saying that the Prophet ﷺ stood up one night in the prayer of Isha and prayed with the people. Then some of his companions lagged behind praying. When he saw them standing up and lagging behind, he left to his camel. When he saw that the people had left the place, he returned to his place and prayed. I came and stood behind him, so he beckoned to me with his right hand, so I stood on his right, then Ibn Mas'ud came and stood behind me and Abu Dharr beckoned to him with his left hand, so he stood on his left. So the three of us prayed, each man praying for himself and reciting from the Quran what Allah willed. And he stood with a verse from the Quran and repeated it until morning prayer came. After we became morning, I beckoned to Abdullah bin Mas'ud and asked him what he wanted to do yesterday? Ibn Mas'ud said, 'I do not ask him anything until he tells me.' So I said, 'By my father and mother, you stood with a verse from the Quran and you have the Quran?' If one of us had done this and we found him on it, I would have prayed for my Ummah.' He said, 'So what did you respond to him or what did he say to you?' I said, 'I responded with something that, if he had realized it, many of them would have refrained from leaving the prayer.' He said, 'Shouldn't I give glad tidings to the people?' I said, 'Yes.' So I left hurling stones near people and Umar said, 'O Messenger of Allah, if you send them with this, they will be disinclined from worship.' So he called him back and he went back. And that is the verse, 'If You should punish them - indeed they are Your servants; but if You forgive them - indeed it is You Who is the Exalted in Might, the Wise.' (Quran 5:118).

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "There is no Arab horse but that it is called to with the Adhan every morning, and it makes two supplications. It says, 'O Allah, as You have made me beloved to the person who loves me and who loves my wealth, make me beloved to him and his wealth. Or make him beloved to me and my wealth.' Abu 'Abdur-Rahman said: My father disputed with 'Amr bin Al-Harith, and he reported it from Yazid, who reported it from 'Abdur-Rahman bin Shamasa, who reported it from Laith, who also reported it from Ibn Shamasa."
[Machine] I said to Abu Dharr, "If I had the opportunity to see the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , I would ask him..." He interrupted and asked, "About what?" I replied, "I would ask him if Muhammad has seen his Lord." Abu Dharr then said, "I did ask him, and he replied, 'It was a light, how can I see Him?'"
[Machine] I asked Abu Dharr, I said to him, "Did you ask the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about the Night of Decree?" He said, "I used to ask people about it." I said, "O Messenger of Allah, tell me about the Night of Decree. Is it in Ramadan or in other than it?" He said, "Indeed, it is in Ramadan." I said, "Does it coincide with the night when the Prophets were taken up (to the heavens) or is it until the Day of Resurrection?" He said, "No, rather it is until the Day of Resurrection." I said, "In which (part) of Ramadan is it?" He said, "Search for it in the first ten (nights) and the last ten (nights). Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ narrated (some Hadiths) and I became negligent. I said, "In which of the twenty (nights) is it?" He said, "Search for it in the last seven (nights). Do not ask me about anything after it." Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ narrated (some Hadiths) and I became negligent. So, I said, "O Messenger of Allah, I swear by my right upon you, when did you inform me in which part of Ramadan it is?" He became angry with me, an anger that he had never displayed to me before or after it. He said, "Search for it in the last seven (nights). Do not ask me about anything after it."

[Machine] He informed him that he said, "O Messenger of Allah, which action is the best?" He said, "Faith in Allah and striving in His cause." He said, "Which type of slavery is the best?" He said, "Freeing a slave who is most valuable and most beloved to his family." He said, "What if I am unable to do so?" He said, "Assist the one who is in need or do good for the disabled." He said, "What if I am weak?" He said, "Refrain from doing evil, for it is a charity that you do upon yourself."

[Machine] When Abu Dharr arrived at Uthman from Sham, he said, "My beloved (referring to the Prophet ﷺ) commanded me with three things: listen and obey, even if it is from a maimed slave, and when you make a soup, increase its water, then see the people from your neighborhood, and give them some of it with kindness, and pray the prayer in its prescribed time. If you find the Imam has already prayed, then you have safeguarded your prayer, and if not, then it is considered voluntary."

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , said, "Whoever drinks alcohol, Allah will not accept his prayer for forty nights. If he repents, Allah will accept his repentance. But if he returns to it, it will be the same. I don't know if it is on the third time or the fourth." The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , said, "If he returns to it, it is certain that Allah will make him drink from the mud of Al-Khabal." They said, "O Messenger of Allah, what is the mud of Al-Khabal?" He said, "It is the essence of the people of the Hellfire."

[Machine] I said to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , "I want to spend the night with you and pray with your prayer." He said, "You are not able to handle my prayer." So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ washed and covered himself with a garment while I turned my gaze away from him. He performed ablution and I did the same, then he stood to pray and I stood with him until I felt like hitting my head against the walls due to the length of his prayer. Then Bilal called the Adhan for prayer and asked, "Did you do it?" I said, "Yes." Bilal said, "O Bilal, you should have called the Adhan when dawn was clearly visible in the sky. This is not the time for Adhan." Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ called for some food for the pre-dawn meal and he ate it.

[Machine] From the Prophet ﷺ , in what he narrates from His Lord, it is reported that He said, "O son of Adam, as long as you call upon Me and put your hope in Me, I will forgive you for whatever sins you have and I will not mind. O son of Adam, even if your sins were to reach the height of the heavens, then you seek forgiveness from Me, I would forgive you. O son of Adam, if you come to Me with an earthful of sins and meet Me without associating anything with Me, I will come to you with an earthful of forgiveness."

"I heard Abu Al-Ahwas saying to us in a gathering with Ibn Al-Musayyab when Ibn Al-Musayyab was sitting there, that he had heard Abu Dharr say: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Allah (SWT) continues to look upon His slave while he is praying, so long as he does not turn away. If he turns his face away, He turns away from him." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 1195)
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , gave me the bay'ah (pledge) five times, secured me seven times, and testified for me nine times that I do not fear the blame of blamers in the sight of Allah. Abu al-Muthanna said Abu Dhar called me. The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , called me and said, "Do you want a bay'ah (pledge) and do you want paradise?" I said, "Yes," and extended my hand. The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , said, while stipulating, "Do not ask people for anything." I said, "Yes." He said, "And do not strike anyone even if he abuses you until he falls, so that you may hold him."

[Machine] He said, when the last ten days came, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ observed i'tikaf in the mosque. When the Prophet ﷺ offered the afternoon prayer on the twenty-first day, he said, "We will be standing tonight, if Allah wills. So whoever among you wishes to stand (for prayer), let him do so." It was the night of the twenty-third that he prayed in congregation after the 'Isha' prayer. He led people in prayer until one-third of the night had passed, then he left. When the night of the twenty-fourth came, he did not offer any prayer; nor did he stand (for prayer). When the night of the twenty-fifth came, he stood (for prayer) after offering the afternoon prayer of the twenty-fourth day. He said, "We will be standing tonight, if Allah wills, meaning the night of the twenty-fifth. So whoever among you wishes to stand (for prayer), let him do so." He said, "Abu Dharr, we have been in a hurry (for standing in prayer) on your behalf." So the Prophet ﷺ led us in prayer until two-thirds of the night had passed, then he left and went to his small room in the mosque. I said to him, "O Messenger of Allah, we were hoping that you would stand with us until morning." He said, "O Abu Dharr, when you have offered the prayer with your Imam and he leaves, it is recorded that you have stood for the whole night."

Then, even if his sins were as much as the foam of the sea, they would be forgiven. Abu Abdurrahman said: My father did not mention the phrase "raise him."

You would soon conquer Egypt and that is a land which is known (as the land of al-qirat). So when you conquer it, treat its inhabitants well. For there lies upon you the responsibility because of blood-tie or relationship of marriage (with them). And when you see two persons falling into dispute amongst themselves for the space of a brick, than get out of that. He (Abu Dharr) said: I saw Abd al-Rahman b. Shurahbil b. Hasana and his brother Rabi'a disputing with one another for the space of a brick. So I left that (land). (Using translation from Muslim 2543b)

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Indeed, Allah accepts the repentance of His servant or forgives His servant as long as the veil is not fallen." It was asked: "And what does the falling of the veil mean?" He said: "When the soul dies while still in a state of polytheism."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Verily, Allah forgives His servant as long as he or she does not commit shirk (associating partners with Allah)."
They asked, "O Messenger of Allah, what is shirk?"
He replied, "It is that the soul dies while still associating partners with Allah."
[Machine] Al-Ansī reported that Abu Dharr narrated to them and they said, "O Messenger of Allah, what is the meaning of 'al-hijab'?" The Prophet ﷺ said, "Indeed, Allah forgives His servant and then they remember His forgiveness."
We set out from our tribe Ghafir who look upon the prohibited months as permissible months. I and my brother Unais and our mother stayed with our maternal uncle who treated us well. The men of his tribe fell jealous and they said: When you are anay from your house, Unais commits adultery with your wife. Our -naternal uncle came and he accused us of the sin which was conveyed to him. I said: You have undone the good you did to us. We cannot stay with you after this. We came to our camels and loaded (our) luggage. Our maternal uncle began to weep covering himself with (a piece of) cloth. We proceeded on until we encamped by the side of Mecca. Unais cast lot on the camels (we had) and an equal number (above that). They both went to a Kahin and he made Unais win and Unais came with our camels and an equal number along with them. He (Abu Dharr) said: My nephew, I used to observe prayer three years before my meeting with Messenger of Allah ﷺ. I said: For whom did you say prayer? He said: For Allah. I said: To which direction did you turn your face (for observing prayer)? He said: I used to turn my face as Allah has directed me to turn my face. I used to observe the night prayer at the time of the end of night and I fell down in prostration like the mantle until the sun rose over me. Unais said: I have a work in Mecca, so you better stay here. Unais went until he came to Mecca and he came to me late. I said: What did you do? He said: I met a person in Mecca who is on your religion and he claims that verily it is Allah Who has sent him. I said: What do the people say about him? He said: They say that he is a poet or a Kahin or a magician. Unais who was himself one of the poets said. I have heard the words of a Kahin but his words in no way resemble his (words). And 1 also compared his words to the verses of poets but such words cannot be uttered by any poet. By Allah, he is truthful and they are liars. Then I said: you stay here, until I go, so that I should see him. He said: I came to Mecca and I selected an insignificant person from amongst them and said to him: Where is he whom you call as-Sabi? He pointed out towards me saying: He is Sabi. Thereupon the people of the valley attacked me with sods and bows until I fell down unconscious. I stood up after havin. regained my consciousness and I found as if I was a red idol. I came to Zamzarn and washed blood from me and drank water from it and listen, O son of my brother, I stayed there for thirty nights or days and there was no food for me but the water of Zamzarn. And I became so bulky that there appeared wrinkles upon my stomach, and I did not feel any hunger in my stomach. It was during this time that the people of Mecca slept in the moonlit night and none was there to eircumambulate the House but only two women who had been invoking the name of Isafa, and Na'ila (the two idols). They came to me while in their circuit and I said: Marry one with the other, but they did not dissuade from their invoking. They came to me and I said to them: Insert wood (in the idols' private parts). (I said this to them in such plain words) as I could not express in metaphorical terms. These women went away crying and saying: Had there been one amongst our people (he would have taught a lesson to you for the obscene words used for our idols before us). These women met Messenger of Allah ﷺ and Abu Bakr who had also been coming down the hill. He asked them: What has happened to you? They said: There is Sabi, who has hidden himself between the Ka'ba and its curtain. He said: What did he say to you? They said: He uttered such words before us as we cannot express. Messenger of Allah ﷺ came and he kissed the Black Stone and circumambulated the House along with his Companion and then observed prayer, and when he had finished his prayer, Abu Dharr said: I was the first to greet him with the salutation of peace and uttered (these words) in this way; Allah's Messen- ger, may there be peace upon you, whereupon he said: It may be upon you too and the mercy of Allah. He then said: Who are you? I said: From the tribe of Ghifar. He leaned his hand and placed his finger on his forehead and I said to myself: Perhaps he has not liked it that I belong to the tribe of Ghifar. I attempted to catch hold of his hand but his friend who knew about him more than I dissuaded me f rom doing so. He then lifted his head and said: Since how long have you been here? I said: I have been here for the last thirty nights or days. He said: Who has been feeding you? I said: There has been no food for me but the water of Zamzam. I have grown so bulky that there appear wrinkles upon my stomach and I do not feel any hunger. He said: It is blessed (water) and it also serves as food. Thereupon Abu Bakr said: Messenger of Allah, let me serve as a host to him for tonight, and then Messenger of Allah ﷺ proceeded forth and so did Abu Bakr and I went along with them. Abu Bakr opened the door and then he brought for us the raisins of Ta'if and that was the first food which I ate there. Then I stayed as long as I had to stay. I then came to Allah's Messenaer ﷺ and he said: I have been shown the land abound- ing in trees and I think it cannot be but that of Yathrib (that is the old name of Medina). You are a preacher to your people on my behalf. I hope Allah would benefit them through you and He would reward you. I came to Unais and he said: What have you done? I said: I have done that I have embraced Islam and I have testified (to the prophethood of Messenger of Allah). He said: I have no aversion for your religion and I also embrace Islam and testify (to the prophethood of Muhammad). Then both of us came to our mother and she said: I have no aversion for your religion and I also embrace Islam and testify to the prophethood of Muhammad. We then loaded our camels and came to our tribe Ghifir and half of the tribe embraced Islam and their chief was Aimi' b. Rahada Ghifirl and he was their leader and hall of the tribe said: We will embrace Islam when Messenger of Allah (may p,. ace be upon him) would come to Medina, and when Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to Medina the remaining half also embraced Islam. Then a tribe Aslam came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: Messenger of Allah, we also embrace Islam like our brothers who have embraced Islam. And they also embraced Islam. Thereupon Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Allah granted pardon to the tribe of Ghifar and Allah saved (from destruction) the tribe of Aslam. (Using translation from Muslim 2473a)

He replied, "Indeed, my close friend has made a covenant with me that whatever gold or silver is entrusted to me, it is like a burning coal on the Day of Judgment until I exhaust it in the way of Allah."

I said, "I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, 'There are three whom Allah loves and three whom Allah hates.'" He said, "Yes, what prevents me from lying about my beloved Muhammad ﷺ three times."
I said, "Who are the three whom Allah loves?" He said, "(1) A man who fights in the way of Allah, meeting the enemy as a fighter, hoping for reward, until he is killed. And you find in the Book of Allah, 'Indeed, Allah loves those who fight in His cause as if they are a compacted structure.' (2) And a man who has a neighbor who harms him, and he endures and seeks reward from Allah until Allah suffices him of it with death or life. (3) And a man who joins a group and practices with them until it becomes burdensome for them, so they camp at the end of the night, then he stands up for his ablution and prayer."
I said, "Who are the three whom Allah hates?" He said, "(1) The arrogant, boastful person. And you find in the Book of Allah, 'Indeed, Allah does not like everyone self-deluded and boastful.' (2) The stingy, miserly person. (3) And the deceitful businessman."
I said, "O Abu Dharr, what about wealth?" He said, "It is a means for us to divide and taste, meaning that we divide a small herd of sheep." I said, "I am not asking about this. I am only asking you about the silent wealth." He said, "I neither have morning nor evening, and what is evening is not morning." I said, "O Abu Dharr, what about you and your Quraishi brothers?" He said, "By Allah, I do not ask them for the world, nor do I seek their advice about the religion of Allah until I meet Allah and His Messenger three times and say these words."
[Machine] From the Prophet ﷺ, he said: "Indeed, there are people from my ummah whose characteristic is shaving their heads. They recite the Quran, but it does not go beyond their throats. They pass through the religion just as an arrow passes through its target. They are the worst of creation and the created."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , said, "I do not like to have the equivalent of Uhud mountain in gold." Shu'bah said, or he said, "I do not like to have even a single gold coin from it, except for a debt that I owe."
The Mu'adh-dhin (call-maker) of the Prophet ﷺ pronounced the Adhan (call) for the Zuhr prayer but the Prophet said, "Let it be cooler, let it be cooler." Or said, 'Wait, wait, because the severity of heat is from the raging of the Hell-fire. In severe hot weather, pray when it becomes (a bit) cooler and the shadows of hillocks appear." (Using translation from Bukhārī 535)
