The Prophet ﷺ in his fatal illness, called his daughter Fatima and told her a secret because of which she started weeping. Then he called her and told her another secret, and she started laughing. When I asked her about that, she replied, The Prophet ﷺ told me that he would die in his fatal illness, and so I wept, but then he secretly told me that from amongst his family, I would be the first to join him, and so I laughed."

دَعَا النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَاطِمَةَ ابْنَتَهُ فِي شَكْوَاهُ الَّذِي قُبِضَ فِيهِ فَسَارَّهَا بِشَىْءٍ فَبَكَتْ ثُمَّ دَعَاهَا فَسَارَّهَا فَضَحِكَتْ قَالَتْ فَسَأَلْتُهَا عَنْ ذَلِكَ فَقَالَتْ سَارَّنِي النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَأَخْبَرَنِي أَنَّهُ يُقْبَضُ فِي وَجَعِهِ الَّذِي تُوُفِّيَ فِيهِ فَبَكَيْتُ ثُمَّ سَارَّنِي فَأَخْبَرَنِي أَنِّي أَوَّلُ أَهْلِ بَيْتِهِ أَتْبَعُهُ فَضَحِكْتُ

The Prophet ﷺ called his daughter Fatima during his illness in which he died, and told her a secret whereupon she wept. Then he called her again and told her a secret whereupon she laughed. When I asked her about that, she replied, "The Prophet ﷺ spoke to me in secret and informed me that he would die in the course of the illness during which he died, so I wept. He again spoke to me in secret and informed me that I would be the first of his family to follow him (after his death) and on that I laughed."

دَعَا النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَاطِمَةَ ابْنَتَهُ فِي شَكْوَاهُ الَّذِي قُبِضَ فِيهَا فَسَارَّهَا بِشَىْءٍ فَبَكَتْ ثُمَّ دَعَاهَا فَسَارَّهَا فَضَحِكَتْ قَالَتْ فَسَأَلْتُهَا عَنْ ذَلِكَ فَقَالَتْ سَارَّنِي النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَأَخْبَرَنِي أَنَّهُ يُقْبَضُ فِي وَجَعِهِ الَّذِي تُوُفِّيَ فِيهِ فَبَكَيْتُ ثُمَّ سَارَّنِي فَأَخْبَرَنِي أَنِّي أَوَّلُ أَهْلِ بَيْتِهِ أَتْبَعُهُ فَضَحِكْتُ

The Prophet ﷺ called Fatima during his fatal illness and told her something secretly and she wept. Then he called her again and told her something secretly, and she started laughing. When we asked her about that, she said, "The Prophet ﷺ first told me secretly that he would expire in that disease in which he died, so I wept; then he told me secretly that I would be the first of his family to follow him, so I laughed ( at that time).

دَعَا النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَاطِمَةَ عَلَيْهَا السَّلاَمُ فِي شَكْوَاهُ الَّذِي قُبِضَ فِيهِ فَسَارَّهَا بِشَىْءٍ فَبَكَتْ ثُمَّ دَعَاهَا فَسَارَّهَا بِشَىْءٍ فَضَحِكَتْ فَسَأَلْنَا عَنْ ذَلِكَ فَقَالَتْ سَارَّنِي النَّبِيُّ ﷺ أَنَّهُ يُقْبَضُ فِي وَجَعِهِ الَّذِي تُوُفِّيَ فِيهِ فَبَكَيْتُ ثُمَّ سَارَّنِي فَأَخْبَرَنِي أَنِّي أَوَّلُ أَهْلِهِ يَتْبَعُهُ فَضَحِكْتُ

What is that which Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to you secretly and you wept and then said to you something secretly and you laughed? Thereupon she said: He informed me secretly of his death and so I wept. He then again informed me secretly that I would be the first amongst the members of his family to follow him and so I laughed.

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ دَعَا فَاطِمَةَ ابْنَتَهُ فَسَارَّهَا فَبَكَتْ ثُمَّ سَارَّهَا فَضَحِكَتْ فَقَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ فَقُلْتُ لِفَاطِمَةَ مَا هَذَا الَّذِي سَارَّكِ بِهِ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَبَكَيْتِ ثُمَّ سَارَّكِ فَضَحِكْتِ قَالَتْ سَارَّنِي فَأَخْبَرَنِي بِمَوْتِهِ فَبَكَيْتُ ثُمَّ سَارَّنِي فَأَخْبَرَنِي أَنِّي أَوَّلُ مَنْ يَتْبَعُهُ مِنْ أَهْلِهِ فَضَحِكْتُ

that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ called for Fatimah in the Year of the Conquest to speak to her, and she cried. Then he spoke to her and she laughed. She said: "When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ died I asked her about her crying and her laughing. She said: 'The Messenger of Allah ﷺ informed me that he would (soon) die, so I cried. Then, he informed me that I was the master over all of the women among the inhabitants of Paradise, except for Mariam bint 'Imran, so I laughed.'"

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ دَعَا فَاطِمَةَ عَامَ الْفَتْحِ فَنَاجَاهَا فَبَكَتْ ثُمَّ حَدَّثَهَا فَضَحِكَتْ قَالَتْ فَلَمَّا تُوُفِّيَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ سَأَلْتُهَا عَنْ بُكَائِهَا وَضَحِكِهَا قَالَتْ أَخْبَرَنِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَنَّهُ يَمُوتُ فَبَكَيْتُ ثُمَّ أَخْبَرَنِي أَنِّي سَيِّدَةُ نِسَاءِ أَهْلِ الْجَنَّةِ إِلاَّ مَرْيَمَ بِنْتَ عِمْرَانَ فَضَحِكْتُ هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ غَرِيبٌ مِنْ هَذَا الْوَجْهِ

What is that which Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to you secretly and you wept and then said to you something secretly and you laughed? Thereupon she said: He informed me secretly of his death and so I wept. He then again informed me secretly that I would be the first amongst the members of his family to follow him and so I laughed. [AI] When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ fell ill, he called his daughter Fatimah and whispered something to her. She cried and then he whispered something else to her, and she laughed. I asked her about it and she said, "When he first spoke to me, he informed me that he would pass away, so I cried. Then he informed me that I would be the first of his family to join him in the afterlife, so I laughed."

لَمَّا مَرِضَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ دَعَا ابْنَتَهُ فَاطِمَةَ فَسَارَّهَا فَبَكَتْ ثُمَّ سَارَّهَا فَضَحِكَتْ فَسَأَلْتُهَا عَنْ ذَلِكَ فَقَالَتْ أَمَّا حَيْثُ بَكَيْتُ فَإِنَّهُ أَخْبَرَنِي أَنَّهُ مَيِّتٌ فَبَكَيْتُ ثُمَّ أَخْبَرَنِي أَنِّي أَوَّلُ أَهْلِهِ لُحُوقًا بِهِ فَضَحِكْتُ

[AI] When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ fell ill, he called his daughter Fatimah and whispered something to her. She cried, and then he whispered something else to her and she laughed. I asked her about it, and she said, "When he first spoke to me, he informed me that he was going to die, so I cried. Then he told me that I would be the first of his family to join him, so I laughed."

لَمَّا مَرِضَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ دَعَا ابْنَتَهُ فَاطِمَةَ فَسَارَّهَا فَبَكَتْ ثُمَّ سَارَّهَا فَضَحِكَتْ فَسَأَلْتُهَا عَنْ ذَلِكَ فَقَالَتْ أَمَّا حَيْثُ بَكَيْتُ فَإِنَّهُ أَخْبَرَنِي أَنَّهُ مَيِّتٌ فَبَكَيْتُثُمَّ أَخْبَرَنِي أَنِّي أَوَّلُ أَهْلِهِ لُحُوقًا بِهِ فَضَحِكْتُ

[AI] I said to Fatimah bint Rasulullah (Peace be upon him), "I saw you weeping heavily for the Prophet (Peace be upon him) during his illness, so I cried. Then you wept for him a second time, so I laughed." She said, "I wept for him because he informed me that he would soon pass away. So I cried. Then I wept for him a second time because he informed me that I will be the first of his family to join him in the afterlife, and that I will be the leader of the women of Paradise, except for Maryam bint Imran. So I laughed."

قُلْتُ لِفَاطِمَةَ بِنْتِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ رَأَيْتُكِ أَكْبَبْتِ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فِي مَرَضِهِ فَبَكَيْتِ ثُمَّ أَكْبَبْتِ عَلَيْهِ الثَّانِيَةَ فَضَحِكْتِ « قَالَتْ » أَكْبَبْتُ عَلَيْهِ فَأَخْبَرَنِي أَنَّهُ مَيِّتٌ فَبَكَيْتُ ثُمَّ أَكْبَبْتُ عَلَيْهِ الثَّانِيَةَ فَأَخْبَرَنِي أَنِّي أَوَّلُ أَهْلِهِ لُحُوقًا بِهِ وَأَنِّي سَيِّدَةُ نِسَاءِ أَهْلِ الْجَنَّةِ إِلَّا مَرْيَمَ بِنْتَ عِمْرَانَ فَضَحِكَتُ «

[AI] The Prophet ﷺ called Fatimah during his illness, in which he was about to pass away. He wiped something over her and she cried. Then he called her again and wiped something over her and she laughed. Aisha asked her about that later, and she said, "The Prophet ﷺ wiped me the first time and informed me that he would pass away in his illness, so I cried. Then he wiped me again and informed me that I would be the first of his family to join him, so I laughed."

دَعَا النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَاطِمَةَ فِي وَجَعِهِ الَّذِي قُبِضَ فِيهِ فَسَارَّهَا بِشَيْءٍ فَبَكَتْ ثُمَّ دَعَاهَا فَسَارَّهَا بِشَيْءٍ فَضَحِكَتْ قَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ فَسَأَلْتُهَا عَنْ ذَلِكَ بَعْدَهُ فَقَالَتْ سَارَّنِي النَّبِيُّ ﷺ أَوَّلَ مَرَّةٍ فَأَخْبَرَنِي أَنَّهُ يُقْبَضُ فِي مَرَضِهِ فَبَكَيْتُ ثُمَّ سَارَّنِي فَأَخْبَرَنِي أَنِّي أَوَّلُ أَهْلِهِ لُحُوقًا بِهِ فَضَحِكَتُ «

[AI] I said to Fatimah, the daughter of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , "I witnessed you making the Prophet ﷺ cry when he was ill, so I cried. Then I saw you make him cry for the second time, and you laughed. She said, "I made him cry, and he informed me that he would die, so I cried. Then I made him cry for the third time, and he informed me that I would be the first person of his household to join him, and that I am the leader of the women of Paradise except for Maryam bint 'Imran, so I laughed."

قُلْتُ لِفَاطِمَةَ بِنْتِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ رَأَيْتُكِ أَكْبَبْتِ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فِي مَرَضِهِ فَبَكَيْتِ ثُمَّ أَكْبَبْتُ عَلَيْهِ ثَانِيَةً فَضَحِكَتِ قَالَتْ أَكْبَبْتُ عَلَيْهِ فَأَخْبَرَنِي أَنَّهُ مَيِّتٌ فَبَكَيْتُ ثُمَّ أَكْبَبْتُ عَلَيْهِ فَأَخْبَرَنِي أَنِّي أَوَّلُ أَهْلِ بَيْتِهِ لُحُوقًا بِهِ وَأَنِّي سَيِّدَةُ نِسَاءِ أَهْلِ الْجَنَّةِ إِلَّا مَا كَانَ مِنْ مَرْيَمَ بِنْتِ عِمْرَانَ فَضَحِكَتُ

[AI] The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ called Fatimah to him when he was ill. He whispered something to her and she began to cry, then he whispered again and she began to laugh. I asked her about what she had seen that made her cry, and then laugh. She said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ informed me of his death, so I cried. Then he informed me that I would be the first of his family to follow him, so I laughed."

دَعَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَاطِمَةَ فِي مَرَضِهِ فَسَارَّهَا فَبَكَتْ ثُمَّ سَارَّهَا فَضَحِكَتْ فَسَأَلْتُهَا عَنْ ذَلِكَ مَا الَّذِي رَأَيْتِ الَّذِي سَارَّكِ فَبَكَيْتِ ثُمَّ سَارَّكِ فَضَحِكَتِ؟ فَقَالَتْ «أَخْبَرَنِي رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بِمَوْتِهِ فَبَكَيْتُ ثُمَّ أَخْبَرَنِي إِنِّي أَوَّلُ مَنْ يَتْبَعُهُ مِنْ أَهْلِهِ فَضَحِكَتُ»

[AI] "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ called Fatimah after the conquest, and he whispered to her. She cried, and then he told her something that made her laugh. Umm Salamah said, 'I did not ask her about her crying and laughing until after the Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed away.' So, I asked Fatimah about her crying and laughing, and she said, 'The Prophet ﷺ informed me that he would die, and then he informed me that I would be the leader of the women of Paradise after Maryam bint Imran. That is why I laughed.'"

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ دَعَا فَاطِمَةَ بَعْدَ الْفَتْحِ فَنَاجَاهَا فَبَكَتْ ثُمَّ حَدَّثَهَا فَضَحِكَتْ قَالَتْ أُمُّ سَلَمَةَ فَلَمْ أَسْأَلْهَا حَتَّى إِذَا تُوُفِّيَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ سَأَلْتُ فَاطِمَةَ عَنْ بُكَائِهَا وَضَحِكِهَا فَقَالَتْ فَاطِمَةُ «أَخْبَرَنِي أَنَّهُ يَمُوتُ ثُمَّ أَخْبَرَنِي إِنِّي سَيِّدَةُ نِسَاءِ أَهْلِ الْجَنَّةِ بَعْدَ مَرْيَمَ بِنْتِ عِمْرَانَ فَلِذَلِكَ ضَحِكْتُ»

[AI] The Prophet ﷺ fell ill, so Fatimah came and covered the Prophet ﷺ with a blanket. She cried, then she covered him and laughed. When the Prophet ﷺ passed away, I asked her why she cried when she covered him and she told me that when she covered him, he informed her that he was going to die from his illness, so she cried. Then when she covered him again, he informed her that she would be the first of his family to join him and that she would be the leader of the women in Paradise, except for Maryam bint Imran. So she lifted her head and laughed.

مَرِضَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَجَاءَتْ فَاطِمَةُ فَأَكَبَّتْ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَسَارَّهَا فَبَكَتْ ثُمَّ أَكَبَّتْ عَلَيْهِ فَسَارَّهَا فَضَحِكَتْ فَلَمَّا تُوُفِّيَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ سَأَلْتُهَا فَقَالَتْ لَمَّا أَكْبَّيْتُ عَلَيْهِ أَخْبَرَنِي أَنَّهُ مَيِّتٌ مِنْ وَجَعِهِ ذَلِكَ فَبَكَيْتُ ثُمَّ أَكْبَّيْتُ عَلَيْهِ فَأَخْبَرَنِي أَنِّي أَسْرَعُ أَهْلِهِ بِهِ لُحُوقًا وَأَنِّي سَيِّدَةُ نِسَاءِ أَهْلِ الْجَنَّةِ إِلَّا مَرْيَمَ بِنْتِ عِمْرَانَ فَرَفَعْتُ رَأْسِي فَضَحِكْتُ

[AI] The Prophet ﷺ fell ill and Fatima came and covered him. So she walked away and cried, then came back and covered him and laughed. When the Prophet ﷺ passed away, I asked her and she said, "When I covered him, he informed me that he would die from his illness, so I cried. Then when I covered him again, he informed me that I would be the first of my household to join him and that I would be the leading lady of the women of Paradise except for Maryam bint Imran. So I lifted my head and laughed."

مَرِضَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَجَاءَتْ فَاطِمَةُ فَأَكَبَّتْ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَسَارَّهَا فَبَكَتْ ثُمَّ أَكَبَّتْ عَلَيْهِ فَسَارَّهَا فَضَحِكَتْ فَلَمَّا تُوُفِّيَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ سَأَلْتُهَا فَقَالَتْ «لَمَّا أَكْبَبْتِ عَلَيْهِ أَخْبَرَنِي أَنَّهُ مَيِّتٌ مِنْ وَجَعِهِ ذَلِكَ فَبَكَيْتُ ثُمَّ أَكْبَبْتُ عَلَيْهِ فَأَخْبَرَنِي أَنِّي أَسْرَعُ أَهْلِ بَيْتِي بِهِ لُحُوقًا وَأَنِّي سَيِّدَةُ نِسَاءِ أَهْلِ الْجَنَّةِ إِلَّا مَرْيَمَ بِنْتَ عِمْرَانَ فَرَفَعْتُ رَأْسِي فَضَحِكْتُ»

that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ called Fatimah on the Day of the Conquest (of Makkah) and he spoke to her, so she cried. Then he spoke to her and she laughed. She said: "So when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ died, I asked her about her crying and laughing. She said: "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ told me that he will die, so I cried, then he told me that I was the master over all the women of the inhabitants of Paradise, except for Mariam the daughter of 'Imran, so I laughed." أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ «دَعَا فَاطِمَةَ فَنَاجَاهَا فَبَكَتْ ثُمَّ حَدَّثَهَا فَضَحِكَتْ» قَالَتْ أُمُّ سَلَمَةَ «فَلَمَّا تُوُفِّيَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ سَأَلْتُهَا عَنْ بُكَائِهَا وَضَحِكِهَا» فَقَالَتْ «أَخْبَرَنِي رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ أَنَّهُ يَمُوتُ ثُمَّ أَخْبَرَنِي رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ أَنِّي سَيِّدَةُ نِسَاءِ أَهْلِ الْجَنَّةِ بَعْدَ مَرْيَمَ بِنْتِ عِمْرَانَ فَضَحِكْتُ»

"عَنْ فَاطِمَةَ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، قَالَتْ: قُلْتُ لِفَاطِمَةَ ابْنَة رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ : رَأَيْتُكِ حِينَ [أَكْبَبْتِ] عَلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فِي مَرَضِهِ، فَبَكَيْتِ ثُمَّ [أَكْبَبْتِ] عَلَيْهِ ثَانِيةً فَضَحكت؟ قَالَتْ: أكْبَبْتُ (عَلَيْهِ فَأَخْبَرَنِي أَنَّهُ مَيِّتٌ فَبَكَيْتُ، ثُمَّ [أَكْبَبْتُ] عَلَيْهِ الثَّانِيَة) فَأَخْبَرَنِي أَنِّي أَوَّلُ أَهْلِهِ لُحُوقًا بِهِ، وَأَنِّي سَيِّدةُ نِسَاءِ أَهْلِ الْجَنَّةِ إِلا مَرْيمَ ابْنَةَ عمْرَانَ، فَضَحِكْتُ} ".

"عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ قَالَتْ: دَعَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَاطِمَةَ بَعْدَ الفتح فَنَاجَاهَا فَبَكَتْ، ثُمَّ حَدَّثَهَا فَضَحِكَتْ، فَلمْ أَسْأَلْهَا عَن شَيءٍ حَتَّى تُوُفِّيَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ سَأَلْتُها عَنْ بُكَائِهَا وَضَحِكِها، فَقَالْتْ: أَخْبَرنِي رسُول اللهِ ﷺ أَنَّهُ يَمُوتُ فَبَكيْتُ، ثُمَّ حَدَّثَنِي أَنِّي سَيِّدَةُ نِسَاءِ أَهْلِ الْجَنَّةِ بَعْدَ مَرْيَم ابْنَةِ عِمْرَانَ فَضَحِكَتُ".
