Ka'b ibn Malik said to AbuLubabah; or someone else whom Allah wished; or to the Prophet ﷺ: To make my repentance complete I should depart from the house of my people in which I fell into sin, and that I should divest myself of all my property as sadaqah (alms). He said: A third (of your property) will be sufficient for you.

أَنَّهُ قَالَ لِلنَّبِيِّ ﷺ أَوْ أَبُو لُبَابَةَ أَوْ مَنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ إِنَّ مِنْ تَوْبَتِي أَنْ أَهْجُرَ دَارَ قَوْمِي الَّتِي أَصَبْتُ فِيهَا الذَّنْبَ وَأَنْ أَنْخَلِعَ مِنْ مَالِي كُلِّهِ صَدَقَةً قَالَ يُجْزِئُ عَنْكَ الثُّلُثُ

[AI] From him, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "O Messenger of Allah, surely my repentance is that I abandon the house of my people and reside with you, and I give a portion of my wealth as charity to Allah and His Messenger." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "One-third will be sufficient for you."

عَنْهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ مِنْ تَوْبَتِي أَنْ أَهْجُرَ دَارَ قَوْمِي وَأُسَاكِنَكَ وَأَنْخَلِعَ مِنْ مَالِي صَدَقَةً لِلَّهِ وَلِرَسُولِهِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «يُجْزِي عَنْكَ الثُّلُثُ»

[AI] "O Messenger of Allah, indeed part of my repentance is that I abandon the home of my people and reside with you, and indeed I will give in charity from my wealth to Allah and His Messenger." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "A third of the responsibility will be lifted from you."

يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّ مِنْ تَوْبَتِي أَنْ أَهْجُرَ دَارَ قَوْمِي وَأُسَاكِنَكَ وَإِنِّي أَنْخَلِعُ مِنْ مَالِي صَدَقَةً لِلَّهِ وَلِرَسُولِهِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يُجْزِئُ عَنْكَ الثُّلُثُ

[AI] "O Messenger of Allah, indeed, part of my repentance to Allah is to leave my people's home and reside with you, and also to give a portion of my wealth as charity for the sake of Allah and His Messenger." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "One-third will suffice for you."

يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّ مِنْ تَوْبَتِي إِلَى اللهِ ﷻ أَنْ أَهْجُرَ دَارَ قَوْمِي وَأُسَاكِنَكَ وَأَنْ أَنْخَلِعَ مِنْ مَالِي صَدَقَةً لِلَّهِ ﷻ وَلِرَسُولِهِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يُجْزِئُ عَنْكَ الثُّلُثُ

Yahya related to me from Malik from Uthman ibn Hafs ibn Umar ibn Khalda that Ibn Shihab had heard that Abu Lubaba ibn Abd al-Mundhir, when Allah turned to him said, "Messenger of Allah, should I leave my people's house in which I committed wrong action and keep your company, and give away all my property as sadaqa for Allah and His Messenger? "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Giving away a third of it is enough for you."

قَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَهْجُرُ دَارَ قَوْمِي الَّتِي أَصَبْتُ فِيهَا الذَّنْبَ وَأُجَاوِرُكَ وَأَنْخَلِعُ مِنْ مَالِي صَدَقَةً إِلَى اللَّهِ وَإِلَى رَسُولِهِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ يُجْزِيكَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ الثُّلُثُ

[AI] When Allah accepted the repentance of Abu Lubabah, Abu Lubabah said, "O Messenger of Allah, I have abandoned my people's land where I committed a sin, and I have pledged to give all my wealth as charity for the sake of Allah, the Almighty, and His Messenger." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "O Abu Lubabah, a third of your wealth will suffice." Abu Lubabah then donated a third of his wealth. لَمَّا تَابَ اللَّهُ عَلَى أَبِي لُبَابَةَ قَالَ أَبُو لُبَابَةَ جِئْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنِّي أَهْجُرُ دَارَ قَوْمِي الَّذِي أَصَبْتُ بِهَا الذَّنْبَ وَأَنْخَلِعُ مِنْ مَالِي كُلِّهِ صَدَقَةً لِلَّهِ ﷻ وَلِرَسُولِهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «يَا أَبَا لُبَابَةَ يُجْزِئُ عَنْكَ الثُّلُثَ» قَالَ فَتَصَدَّقْتُ بِالثُّلُثِسكت عنه الذهبي في التلخيص

[AI] His grandfather, Aba Lubabah, when Allah forgave him for his delay in accompanying the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , and for his past actions, in which the Messenger of Allah ﷺ advised him, he said, "O Messenger of Allah, I will abandon my house in which I have committed sins, and I will come to you and live with you, and I will give all of my wealth as charity to Allah and His Messenger." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him, "You will be rewarded for a third of that."

أَنَّ جَدَّهُ أَبَا لُبَابَةَ حِينَ تَابَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ فِي تَخَلُّفِهِ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَفِيمَا كَانَ سَلَفَ قَبْلَ ذَلِكَ فِي أُمُورٍ وَجَدَ عَلَيْهِ فِيهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنِّي أَهْجُرُ دَارِيَ الَّتِي أَصَبْتُ فِيهَا الذَّنْبَ وَأَنْتَقِلُ إِلَيْكَ وَأُسَاكِنُكَ وَإِنِّي أَنْخَلِعُ مِنْ مَالِي كُلِّهِ صَدَقَةً إِلَى اللَّهِ وَإِلَى رَسُولِهِ فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «يُجْزِئُكَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ الثُّلُثُ»

[AI] He said, "O Messenger of Allah, my repentance includes leaving the town of my people where I committed a sin, and giving a third of my wealth as charity to Allah and His Messenger." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "A third of your wealth will suffice for you."

أَنَّهُ قَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّ مِنْ تَوْبَتِي أَنْ أَهَجَرَ دَارَ قَوْمِي الَّتِي أَصَبْتُ فِيهَا الذَّنْبَ وَأَنْخَلِعُ مِنْ مَالِي صَدَقَةً إِلَى اللهِ وَرَسُولِهِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «يُجْزِئُ عَنْكَ الثُّلُثُ مِنْ مَالِكِ»

[AI] He said to the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , when he came to him, "O Messenger of Allah, I will give charity from my wealth to Allah and His Messenger." The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , said to him, "Keep some of your wealth, as it is better for you."

أَنَّهُ قَالَ لِرَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ حِينَ تِيبَ عَلَيْهِ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنِّي أَنْخَلِعُ مِنْ مَالِي صَدَقَةً إِلَى اللهِ وَرَسُولِهِ فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «أَمْسِكْ بَعْضَ مَالِكَ فَهُوَ خَيْرٌ لَكَ»

[AI] On the authority of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , he said: "O Messenger of Allah! Indeed, part of my repentance is to give charity from my wealth to Allah and to His Messenger." So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him, "Hold onto some of your wealth, as it is better for you."

عَنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّ مِنْ تَوْبَتِي أَنْ أَنْخَلِعَ مِنْ مَالِي صَدَقَةً إِلَى اللهِ وَإِلَى رَسُولِهِ فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «أَمْسِكْ عَلَيْكَ بَعْضَ مَالِكَ فَهُوَ خَيْرٌ لَكَ»

[AI] I said, "O Messenger of Allah, indeed part of my repentance is to give up my wealth and to leave the land of my people in which I committed the sin." So the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , said to him, "A third of that will suffice for you."

قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّ مِنْ تَوْبَتِي أَنْ أَنْخَلِعَ مِنْ مَالِي وَأَنْ أَهْجُرَ دَارَ قَوْمِي الَّتِي أَصَبْتُ فِيهَا الذَّنْبَ فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «يُجْزِئُ عَنْكَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ الثُّلُثُ»

[AI] About the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and in what happened before that in matters in which the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had a role, Hussein claimed that Abu Lubabah said when Allah forgave him, "O Messenger of Allah, I will abandon the home of my people where I committed sin and I will migrate and live with you, and I will donate one-third of my wealth to Allah and His Messenger." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him, "Hussein claimed that one-third will be compensated for you." This was narrated by Muhammad ibn Abi Hafsah from Az-Zuhri from Hussein ibn As-Saib ibn Abi Lubabah from his father who said, "When Allah forgave Abu Lubabah, he said, 'I came to the Prophet ﷺ and mentioned it to him.' The Prophet ﷺ said, 'One-third will be compensated for you.'"

عَنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَفِيمَا كَانَ سَلَفَ قَبْلَ ذَلِكَ فِي أُمُورٍ وَجَدَ عَلَيْهِ فِيهَا رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَزَعَمَ حُسَيْنٌ أَنَّ أَبَا لُبَابَةَ قَالَ حِينَ تَابَ اللهُ عَلَيْهِ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنِّي أَهْجُرُ دَارَ قَوْمِي الَّتِي أَصَبْتُ فِيهَا الذَّنْبَ وَأَنْتَقِلُ وَأُسَاكِنُكَ وَأَنْخَلِعُ مِنْ مَالِي صَدَقَةً إِلَى اللهِ وَإِلَى رَسُولِهِ فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ زَعَمَ حُسَيْنٌ يُجْزِئُ عَنْكَ الثُّلُثُ وَرَوَاهُ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي حَفْصَةَ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ حُسَيْنِ بْنِ السَّائِبِ بْنِ أَبِي لُبَابَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ لَمَّا تَابَ اللهُ عَلَى أَبِي لُبَابَةَ قَالَ أَبُو لُبَابَةَ جِئْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَقُلْتُ فَذَكَرَهُ وَقَالَ فَقَالَ يُجْزِئُ عَنْكَ الثُّلُثُ

"عَنِ الزُّهْرِىِّ عَنِ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ السَّايِبِ بْنِ أَبِى لُبَابَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ أَبِى لُبَابَةَ، قَالَ، لَمَّا تَابَ الله تَعَالَى عَلَىَّ، جِئْتُ رَسُولَ الله ﷺ فَقُلتُ لَهُ: يَا رَسُولَ الله، إِنِّى أَهْجُرُ دَارَ قَوْمِى الَّتِى أَصَبْتُ بِهَا الذَّنْبَ، وَأَنْخَلِعُ مِنْ مَالِى صَدَقَةً إِلَى الله وَرَسُولِهِ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ الله ﷺ : يَا أَبَا لُبَابَةَ، يُجْزِئُ عَنْكَ الثُّلُثُ، فَتَصَدَّقْ بِالثُّلُثِ".

"عَنِ الزُّهْرِىّ: أَنَّ أَبَا لُبَابَةَ لَمَّا تَابَ اللَّهُ -تَعَالَى- عَنْهُ قَالَ: يَا نَبِىَّ اللَّه! إِنَّ مِنْ تَوْبَتِى أَنْ أَهْجُرَ دَارَ قَوْمِى الَّتِى أَصبْتُ فِيهَا الذَّنْبَ وَأُجَاوِرَكَ، وَأَنْخَلعَ مِنْ مَالِى صَدَقَةً إِلَى اللَّهِ وَإِلَى رَسُولِهِ. فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ : يُجْزِئُكَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ الثُّلُثُ يَا أَبَا لُبَابَةَ".
