Recommendation to eat dropped morsels of food and lick fingers for barakah

I heard the Prophet ﷺ say: "Indeed, Satan attends one of you in every matter of his affairs, even he attends him when he is eating. So if a morsel falls from one of you, let him remove from it whatever harm is on it, then let him eat it and not leave it for Satan. And when he finishes, let him lick his fingers, for he does not know in which part of his food the blessing is."

مسلم:٢٠٣٣d – حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ عَنِ الأَعْمَشِ عَنْ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ عَنْ جَابِرٍ قَالَ

سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ يَقُولُ: «إِنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ يَحْضُرُ أَحَدَكُمْ عِنْدَ كُلِّ شَىْءٍ مِنْ شَأْنِهِ، حَتَّى يَحْضُرَهُ عِنْدَ طَعَامِهِ، فَإِذَا سَقَطَتْ مِنْ أَحَدِكُمُ اللُّقْمَةُ فَلْيُمِطْ مَا كَانَ بِهَا مِنْ أَذًى، ثُمَّ لْيَأْكُلْهَا وَلاَ يَدَعْهَا لِلشَّيْطَانِ، فَإِذَا فَرَغَ فَلْيَلْعَقْ أَصَابِعَهُ فَإِنَّهُ لاَ يَدْرِي فِي أَىِّ طَعَامِهِ تَكُونُ الْبَرَكَةُ».

abudawud:3845 – Mūsá b. Ismāʿīl > Ḥammād > Thābit > Anas b. Mālik

If the morsel of one of you falls down, he should wipe away anything injurious on it and eat it and not leave it for the devil. And he ordered us to clean the dish, for one of you does not leave it for the devil. And he ordered us to clean the dish, for one of you does not know in what part of his food the blessing lies.

أبو داود:٣٨٤٥ – حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ عَنْ ثَابِتٍ عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ كَانَ إِذَا أَكَلَ طَعَامًا لَعِقَ أَصَابِعَهُ الثَّلاَثَ وَقَالَ إِذَا سَقَطَتْ لُقْمَةُ أَحَدِكُمْ فَلْيُمِطْ عَنْهَا الأَذَى وَلْيَأْكُلْهَا وَلاَ يَدَعْهَا لِلشَّيْطَانِ وَأَمَرَنَا أَنْ نَسْلُتَ الصَّحْفَةَ وَقَالَ إِنَّ أَحَدَكُمْ لاَ يَدْرِي فِي أَىِّ طَعَامِهِ يُبَارَكُ لَهُ

ahmad:15237 – Ḥasan > Ibn Lahīʿah > Abū al-Zubayr > Jābir

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: When one of you drops a morsel, he should remove what has touched it from it, and then he should eat it. He should not leave it for the devil, nor should he wipe his hand with the towel until he has licked his fingers. Indeed, a man does not know in which of his food blessings have been sent down for him, and the devil lies in wait for the son of Adam at every thing, even in his food.

أحمد:١٥٢٣٧ – حَدَّثَنَا حَسَنٌ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الزُّبَيْرِ عَنْ جَابِرٍ

الكبرى للنسائي:٦٧٤٦ – أَخْبَرَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ عَنْ جَابِرٍ قَالَ

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «إِذَا سَقَطَتْ مِنْ أَحَدِكُمْ لُقْمَةٌ فَلْيُمِطْ مَا أَصَابَهَا مِنْ أَذًى فَلْيَأْكُلْهَا وَلَا يَدَعْهَا لِلشَّيْطَانِ وَلَا يَمْسَحْ يَدَهُ بِالْمِنْدِيلِ حَتَّى يَلْعَقَهَا أَوْ يُلْعِقَهَا فَإِنَّهُ لَا يَدْرِي فِي أَيِّ طَعَامِهِ الْبَرَكَةُ»

suyuti:5624a –

I heard Allah's Apostle ﷺ as saying: The Satan is present with any one of you in everything he does; he is present even when he eats food; so if any one of you drops a mouthful he should remove away anything filthy on it and eat it and not leave for the devil; and when he finishes (food) he should lick his fingers, for he does not know in what portion of his food the blessing lies. السيوطي:٥٦٢٤a –

"إِنَّ الشَّيطَانَ يَحْضُرُ أَحَدَكُم عِنْدَ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ مِنْ شَأْنِه، حتَّى يَحْضُرَهُ عِنْدَ طَعَامِهِ، فَإِذَا سَقَطَتْ مِنْ أحَدِكُمْ اللُّقمَةُ فَليُمْطَ مَا كَانَ بِها مِن أَذًى ثُمَّ لْيَأْكُلْها وَلَا يَدَعْها لِلشَّيطَانِ، فَإِذَا فَرَغَ فَليَلعَق أَصَابِعَه فَإِنَّهُ لَا يَدْرِي فيِ أَيِّ طَعَامِهِ تَكُونُ الْبَرَكَةُ".
