8. Book of Purification (2/9)
"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ performed Wudu', and he scooped up one handful (of water) and rinsed his mouth and nose. Then he scooped up another handful and washed his face. Then he scooped up another handful and washed his right hand, then another handful and washed his left hand. Then he wiped his head and his ears, the inside with his forefinger and the outside with his thumb. Then he scooped up a handful of water and washed his right foot, and scooped up another handful and washed his left foot." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 102)
From his father who said: "I said. 'O Messenger of Allah! Inform me about Wudu.' So he said: "Perform Wudu well, and go between the fingers, and perform Istinshaq extensively except when fasting." (Using translation from Tirmidhī 788)
[Machine] Abu Hurayrah used to come to people while they were performing ablution at the place of purification and would say to them, "Perform your ablution well, may Allah bless you. For I have heard Abu al-Qasim ﷺ saying, 'Woe to the heels from the Fire.'"
[Machine] Abu Jubeir Al-Kindi came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered him to perform ablution and said, "Perform ablution, O Abu Jubeir." So he started with his mouth, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him, "Do not start with your mouth, for the disbeliever starts with it." Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ called for ablution, washed his hands until he purified them, then rinsed his mouth and nose, then washed his face three times. Then he washed his right hand up to the elbow three times, then washed his left hand up to the elbow three times. Then he wiped his head and washed his feet.
The Prophet ﷺ said: When you put on (a garment) and when you perform ablution, you should begin with your right side. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 4141)
The Messenger of Allah [SAW] liked to start on the right whenever possible; when purifying himself, when putting on his shoes, and when combing his hair. (Using translation from Nasāʾī 5240)
Al-Muttalib bin 'Abdullah bin Hantab (narrated) that 'Abdullah bin 'Umar performed Wudu', washing each part of the body three times, and he attributed that to the Prophet ﷺ. (Using translation from Nasāʾī 81)
[Machine] "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was in our house, so he called for wudu (ablution). We brought him a container with water. He performed wudu by washing his face three times, washing his hands twice, wiping his head, and then he washed his feet."
The Prophet (my peace be upon him) washed the limbs in ablution twice. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 136)
May I not tell you how the Messenger of Allah ﷺ performed ablution? He then performed ablution washing each limb once only. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 138)
8.5 [Machine] Nullifiers of Wudu
[Machine] "We went out with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in the battle of Dhat ar-Riqa', and a Muslim man had relations with the wife of a polytheist. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ concluded the campaign and left, the husband came and confronted his wife, who had been absent. When he was informed of what had happened, he swore not to stop shedding the blood of the companions of Muhammad ﷺ until he avenged the act. He went out to pursue the footsteps of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . The Messenger of Allah ﷺ settled in a spot and said, 'Who will cover our night?'. A man from the Muhajireen and a man from the Ansar volunteered and said, 'We will, O Messenger of Allah'. He ﷺ said, 'Then remain at the mouth of the valley'. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ and his companions descended into a valley. When the two men reached the mouth of the valley, the Ansari said to the Muhajir, 'Which part of the night do you prefer that I cover for you, the first or the last?'. The Muhajir answered, 'Let me take the first part'. So the Muhajir lay down and slept while the Ansari stood and prayed. Then the husband of the woman approached, and when he saw someone, he recognized him as one of the leaders of the group. He shot an arrow at him, which hit him, so the man placed it in him, the husband of the woman pulled the arrow out, placed it again, and stayed standing in prayer. The Ansari continued this for a second time, and a third time. Then he performed the Rukoo' and the Sujood, and motioned to his companion saying, 'Get up, for I have been hit'. So his companion rose and fled. When the man saw the blood on the Ansari, he said, 'SubhanAllah! Did you not come to assist me when you were first shot at?'. The Ansari replied, 'I was reciting a Surah which I did not want to interrupt until I completed it. When you continued to shoot, I performed another Rukoo' prayer, and when you continued to shoot, I completed the Surah in prayer. By Allah, if the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had not ordered me to stand guard, I would have preferred death over leaving it incomplete'."

"Messenger of Allah vomited [so he broke fast] so he performed Wudu." So I met Thawban in a Masjid in Damascus, and I mentioned that to him. He said: 'He told the truth, I poured the water for his Wudu." (Using translation from Tirmidhī 87)
[Machine] I said to Ata', "At what time do you prefer that I pray Al-‘Atamah (the optional prayer at night) as an imam or alone?" He replied, "I heard Ibn 'Abbas saying that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to perform Al-'Atamah until the people went to sleep, and then they would wake up and perform it, and then sleep again and then wake up. 'Umar said, 'Prayer, prayer.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came out, as if I can see him now, with water dripping from his head, wiping his hands over his head, and he said, 'If it were not that it would be hard on my Ummah (nation), I would have commanded them to perform it.'"
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ was occupied one night and did not perform the 'Isha' prayer until we slept in the mosque. Then we woke up, slept again, and woke up again. Then he went out and said ﷺ, "No one from the inhabitants of the Earth is waiting for the prayer except you."
[Machine] "What do you need from me?" I said to him, "I seek knowledge." He said, "Indeed, the angels spread their wings for the seeker of knowledge, pleased with what he seeks." I said to myself, "I will cleanse the two socks after relieving myself and urinating." I was a companion of the Prophet ﷺ , so I came to you to ask if you heard anything from him about this? He said, "Yes, he used to command us when we were on a journey or traveling, not to remove our socks for three days and nights except for sexual impurity, but we could do so for relieving ourselves, urinating, and sleeping."
Ali ibn AbuTalib commanded him to ask the Messenger of Allah ﷺ what a man should do when he wants to have intercourse with his wife and the prostatic fluid comes out (at this moment). (He said): I am ashamed of consulting him because of the position of his daughter. Al-Miqdad said: I asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about it. He said: When any of you finds, he should wash his private part, and perform ablution as he does for prayer. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 207)
I was a man who emitted a great deal of madhi, so I asked the Prophet ﷺ and he said: “If you see madhi then do wudoo’ and wash your private part, and if you see water gushing then do ghusl.ʿ I [the narrator] mentioned that to Sufyan and he said: I heard that from Rukain. Muʿawiyah and ibn Abi Bukair told us: Zaʿidah told us: ar-Rukain bin ar-Rabee bin ‘Ameelah al-Fazari told us... And he mentioned a similar report, and they said: water gushing. And Ibn Abu Bukair told us: Zaʿidah told us, and he also said, gushing. (Using translation from Aḥmad 1028)
I felt greatly distressed by the frequent flowing of prostatic fluid. For this reason I used to take a bath very often. I asked the apostle of Allah ﷺ about this. He replied: Ablution will be sufficient for you because of this. I asked: Messenger of Allah, what should I do if it smears my clothes. He replied: It is sufficient if you take a handful of water and sprinkle it on your clothe when you find it has smeared it. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 210)
