Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "If it is very hot, then pray the Zuhr prayer when it becomes (a bit) cooler, as the severity of the heat is from the raging of the Hell-fire."

عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَنَّهُ قَالَ إِذَا اشْتَدَّ الْحَرُّ فَأَبْرِدُوا عَنِ الصَّلاَةِ فَإِنَّ شِدَّةَ الْحَرِّ مِنْ فَيْحِ جَهَنَّمَ

that Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Pray Zuhr prayer when it becomes (a bit) cooler as the severity of heat is from the raging of the Hell-fire."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَبْرِدُوا بِالظُّهْرِ فَإِنَّ شِدَّةَ الْحَرِّ مِنْ فَيْحِ جَهَنَّمَ

We were with the Prophet ﷺ on a journey and the Mu'adh-dhin (call maker for the prayer) wanted to pronounce the Adhan (call) for the Zuhr prayer. The Prophet ﷺ said, 'Let it become cooler." He again (after a while) wanted to pronounce the Adhan but the Prophet ﷺ said to him, "Let it become cooler till we see the shadows of hillocks." The Prophet ﷺ added, "The severity of heat is from the raging of the Hell-fire, and in very hot weather pray (Zuhr) when it becomes cooler."

حَدَّثَنَا مُهَاجِرٌ أَبُو الْحَسَنِ مَوْلًى لِبَنِي تَيْمِ اللَّهِ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ زَيْدَ بْنَ وَهْبٍ عَنْ أَبِي ذَرٍّ الْغِفَارِيِّ قَالَ كُنَّا مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فِي سَفَرٍ فَأَرَادَ الْمُؤَذِّنُ أَنْ يُؤَذِّنَ لِلظُّهْرِ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ أَبْرِدْ ثُمَّ أَرَادَ أَنْ يُؤَذِّنَ فَقَالَ لَهُ أَبْرِدْ حَتَّى رَأَيْنَا فَىْءَ التُّلُولِ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ إِنَّ شِدَّةَ الْحَرِّ مِنْ فَيْحِ جَهَنَّمَ فَإِذَا اشْتَدَّ الْحَرُّ فَأَبْرِدُوا بِالصَّلاَةِ وَقَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ تَتَفَيَّأُ تَتَمَيَّلُ

We were in the company of the Prophet ﷺ on a journey and the Mu'adh-dhin wanted to pronounce the Adhan for the (Zuhr) prayer. The Prophet ﷺ said to him, "Let it become cooler." Then he again wanted to pronounce the Adhan but the Prophet; said to him, "Let it become cooler." The Mu'adh-dhin again wanted to pronounce the Adhan for the prayer but the Prophet ﷺ said, "Let it become cooler," till the shadows of the hillocks become equal to their sizes. The Prophet ﷺ added, "The severity of the heat is from the raging of Hell."

كُنَّا مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فِي سَفَرٍ فَأَرَادَ الْمُؤَذِّنُ أَنْ يُؤَذِّنَ فَقَالَ لَهُ أَبْرِدْ ثُمَّ أَرَادَ أَنْ يُؤَذِّنَ فَقَالَ لَهُ أَبْرِدْ ثُمَّ أَرَادَ أَنْ يُؤَذِّنَ فَقَالَ لَهُ أَبْرِدْ حَتَّى سَاوَى الظِّلُّ التُّلُولَ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ {إِنَّ شِدَّةَ الْحَرِّ مِنْ فَيْحِ جَهَنَّمَ}

While the Prophet ﷺ was on a journey, he said (regarding the performance of the Zuhr prayer), "Wait till it (i.e. the weather) gets cooler." He said the same again till the shade of the hillocks extended. Then he said, "Delay the (Zuhr) Prayer till it gets cooler, for the severity of heat is from the increase in heat of Hell (fire).

سَمِعْتُ أَبَا ذَرٍّ ؓ يَقُولُ كَانَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فِي سَفَرٍ فَقَالَ أَبْرِدْ ثُمَّ قَالَ أَبْرِدْ حَتَّى فَاءَ الْفَىْءُ يَعْنِي لِلتُّلُولِ ثُمَّ قَالَ أَبْرِدُوا بِالصَّلاَةِ فَإِنَّ شِدَّةَ الْحَرِّ مِنْ فَيْحِ جَهَنَّمَ

The Prophet ﷺ said, "Delay the (Zuhr) Prayer till it gets cooler, for the severity of heat is from the increase in the heat of Hell (fire).

قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ أَبْرِدُوا بِالصَّلاَةِ فَإِنَّ شِدَّةَ الْحَرِّ مِنْ فَيْحِ جَهَنَّمَ

When it is very hot, say (the noon prayer) when the extreme heat passes away, for intensity of heat is from the exhalation of Hell.

أَنَّهُ قَالَ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ إِذَا اشْتَدَّ الْحَرُّ فَأَبْرِدُوا بِالصَّلاَةِ فَإِنَّ شِدَّةَ الْحَرِّ مِنْ فَيْحِ جَهَنَّمَ

This heat is from the exhalation of Hell-fire, so delay the prayer till it is cool.

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ إِنَّ هَذَا الْحَرَّ مِنْ فَيْحِ جَهَنَّمَ فَأَبْرِدُوا بِالصَّلاَةِ

This is what Abu Huraira narrated to us from the Prophet and he transmitted some ahadith-one of them was that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Let the heat become less severe before prayer, for the intensity of heat is from the exhalation of Hell.

عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَذَكَرَ أَحَادِيثَ مِنْهَا وَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَبْرِدُوا عَنِ الْحَرِّ فِي الصَّلاَةِ فَإِنَّ شِدَّةَ الْحَرِّ مِنْ فَيْحِ جَهَنَّمَ

The Mu'adhdbin (the announcer of the hour of prayer) of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ called for the noon prayer. Upon this the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Let it cool down, let it cool down, or he said: Wait, wait for the intensity of heat is from the exhalation of Hell. When the heat is intense, delay the prayer till it becomes cooler. Abu Dharr said: (We waited) till we saw the shadow of the mounds.

أَذَّنَ مُؤَذِّنُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ بِالظُّهْرِ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ أَبْرِدْ أَبْرِدْ أَوْ قَالَ انْتَظِرِ انْتَظِرْ وَقَالَ إِنَّ شِدَّةَ الْحَرِّ مِنْ فَيْحِ جَهَنَّمَ فَإِذَا اشْتَدَّ الْحَرُّ فَأَبْرِدُوا عَنِ الصَّلاَةِ قَالَ أَبُو ذَرٍّ حَتَّى رَأَيْنَا فَىْءَ التُّلُولِ

When the heat is violent, offer (the Zuhr) prayer when it becomes fairly cool, for the violent heat comes from the bubbling over the Hell.

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ إِذَا اشْتَدَّ الْحَرُّ فَأَبْرِدُوا عَنِ الصَّلاَةِ قَالَ ابْنُ مَوْهَبٍ بِالصَّلاَةِ فَإِنَّ شِدَّةَ الْحَرِّ مِنْ فَيْحِ جَهَنَّمَ

"Messenger of Allah was on a journey and Bilal was with him. So he wanted to call for the prayer, but he (the Prophet) said: 'Let it get cooler.' Then he wanted to call for the prayer, so Messenger of Allah said: 'Let it get to the cooler time of Zuhr.'" He (i.e., Abu Dharr) said: "Until we saw the shadows of the hillocks, then he commanded that the Iqamah be called and then led the people in prayer. Messenger of Allah said: 'The severity of heat is from the raging of Hell, so wait until it becomes cooler for the (Zuhr) prayer.'"

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ كَانَ فِي سَفَرٍ وَمَعَهُ بِلاَلٌ فَأَرَادَ بِلاَلٌ أَنْ يُقِيمَ فَقَالَ أَبْرِدْ ثُمَّ أَرَادَ أَنْ يُقِيمَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَبْرِدْ فِي الظُّهْرِ قَالَ حَتَّى رَأَيْنَا فَىْءَ التُّلُولِ ثُمَّ أَقَامَ فَصَلَّى فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِنَّ شِدَّةَ الْحَرِّ مِنْ فَيْحِ جَهَنَّمَ فَأَبْرِدُوا عَنِ الصَّلاَةِ

"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'If it is very hot, wait until it cools down before you pray, for intense heat is a breeze from Hell.'"

إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ إِذَا اشْتَدَّ الْحَرُّ فَأَبْرِدُوا عَنِ الصَّلاَةِ فَإِنَّ شِدَّةَ الْحَرِّ مِنْ فَيْحِ جَهَنَّمَ

"The Messenger of Allah said: 'When it is very hot, then wait for it to cool down before you pray, for intense heat is from the flaring up of the Hell-fire.'"

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِذَا اشْتَدَّ الْحَرُّ فَأَبْرِدُوا بِالصَّلاَةِ فَإِنَّ شِدَّةَ الْحَرِّ مِنْ فَيْحِ جَهَنَّمَ

The Messenger of Allah said: "When it is very hot, then wait for it to cool down before you pray, for intense heat is from the flaring up of the Hell-fire."

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ إِذَا اشْتَدَّ الْحَرُّ فَأَبْرِدُوا بِالظُّهْرِ فَإِنَّ شِدَّةَ الْحَرِّ مِنْ فَيْحِ جَهَنَّمَ

"The Messenger of Allah said: 'Wait for it to cool down before you pray, for intense heat is from the flaring up of the Hell-fire.'"

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَبْرِدُوا بِالظُّهْرِ فَإِنَّ شِدَّةَ الْحَرِّ مِنْ فَيْحِ جَهَنَّمَ

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "When the heat becomes intense, cool yourselves down with prayer, for the intensity of the heat is from the breath of Hellfire." Abu Muhammad said, "I have this saying of delaying when they are affected by the heat."

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ «إِذَا اشْتَدَّ الْحَرُّ فَأَبْرِدُوا بِالصَّلَاةِ فَإِنَّ شِدَّةَ الْحَرِّ مِنْ فَيْحِ جَهَنَّمَ» قَالَ أَبُو مُحَمَّدٍ هَذَا عِنْدِي مِن التَّأْخِيرِ إِذَا تَأَذَّوْا بِالْحَرِّ

[AI] On the authority of the Prophet ﷺ , he said: "The intensity of heat is from the breath of Hell, so cool it down with prayer."

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ شِدَّةُ الْحَرِّ مِنْ فَيْحِ جَهَنَّمَ فَأَبْرِدُوا بِالصَّلَاةِ

"The Messenger of Allah said: 'When it is very hot, then wait for it to cool down before you pray, for intense heat is from the flaring up of the Hell-fire.'" (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 677)

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِذَا اشْتَدَّ الْحَرُّفَ أَبْرِدُوا بِالصَّلَاةِ فَإِنَّ شِدَّةَ الْحَرِّ مِنْ فَيْحِ جَهَنَّمَ

The Prophet ﷺ said, "In very hot weather delay the Zuhr prayer till it becomes (a bit) cooler because the severity of heat is from the raging of the Hell-fire. The Hell-fire of Hell complained to its Lord saying: O Lord! My parts are eating (destroying) one another. So Allah allowed it to take two breaths, one in the winter and the other in the summer. The breath in the summer is at the time when you feel the severest heat and the breath in the winter is at the time when you feel the severest cold." (Using translation from Bukhārī 536)

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ إِنَّ شِدَّةَ الْحَرِّ مِنْ فَيْحِ جَهَنَّمَ فَإِذَا اشْتَدَّ الْحَرُّ فَأَبْرِدُوا بِالصَّلَاةِ

"The Messenger of Allah said: 'When it is very hot, then wait for it to cool down before you pray, for intense heat is from the flaring up of the Hell-fire.'" (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 677)

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِذَا اشْتَدَّ الْحَرُّ فَأَبْرِدُوا عَنِ الصَّلَاةِ فَإِنَّ شِدَّةَ الْحَرِّ مِنْ فَيْحِ جَهَنَّمَ

The Prophet ﷺ said, "In very hot weather delay the Zuhr prayer till it becomes (a bit) cooler because the severity of heat is from the raging of the Hell-fire. The Hell-fire of Hell complained to its Lord saying: O Lord! My parts are eating (destroying) one another. So Allah allowed it to take two breaths, one in the winter and the other in the summer. "The Messenger of Allah said: 'When it is very hot, then wait for it to cool down before you pray, for intense heat is from the flaring up of the Hell-fire.'" (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 677)

وَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ أَبْرِدُوا عَنِ الْحَرِّ فِي الصَّلَاةِ فَإِنَّ شِدَّةَ الْحَرِّ مِنْ فَيْحِ جَهَنَّمَ

The Prophet ﷺ said, "Delay the (Zuhr) Prayer till it gets cooler, for the severity of heat is from the increase in the heat of Hell (fire). (Using translation from Bukhārī 3259)

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ إِنَّ شِدَّةَ الْحَرِّ مِنْ فَيْحِ جَهَنَّمَ فَأَبْرِدُوا بِالصَّلَاةِ

This heat is from the exhalation of Hell-fire, so delay the prayer till it is cool. (Using translation from Muslim 615d)

عَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ إِنَّ هَذَا الْحَرَّ مِنْ فَيْحِ جَهَنَّمَ فَأَبْرِدُوا بِالصَّلَاةِ

"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'If it is very hot, wait until it cools down before you pray, for intense heat is a breeze from Hell.'" (Using translation from Nasāʾī 500)

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ إِذَا اشْتَدَّ الْحَرُّ فَأَبْرِدُواعَنِ الصَّلَاةِ فَإِنَّ شِدَّةَ الْحَرِّ مِنْ فَيْحِ جَهَنَّمَ

"The Messenger of Allah said: 'When it is very hot, then wait for it to cool down before you pray, for intense heat is from the flaring up of the Hell-fire.'" (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 677)

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ أَبْرِدُوا عَنِ الصَّلَاةِ فَإِنَّ شِدَّةَ الْحَرِّ مِنْ فَيْحِ جَهَنَّمَ

[AI] On the authority of the Prophet ﷺ who said, "Cool yourselves off from praying in the heat, for the intensity of heat is from the breath of Hellfire or from the opening of the gates of Hellfire."

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ أَبْرِدُوا عَنِ الصَّلَاةِ فِي الْحَرِّ فَإِنَّ شِدَّةَ الْحَرِّ مِنْ فَيْحِ جَهَنَّمَ أَوْ مِنْ فَتْحِ أَبْوَابِجَهَنَّمَ

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Do not sell gold for gold or silver for silver unless it is equal in weight, measure for measure, equally traded for equally. And he said, 'When the heat intensifies, cool yourselves with prayer, for the intensity of the heat is from the gusts of Hell.'"

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ لَا تَبِيعُواالذَّهَبَ بِالذَّهَبِ وَلَا الْوَرِقَ بِالْوَرِقِ إِلَّا وَزْنًا بِوَزْنٍ مِثْلًا بِمِثْلٍ سَوَاءً بِسَوَاءٍ وقَالَ إِذَا اشْتَدَّ الْحَرُّ فَأَبْرِدُوا بِالصَّلَاةِ فَإِنَّ شِدَّةَ الْحَرِّ مِنْ فَيْحِ جَهَنَّمَ

The Prophet ﷺ said, "In very hot weather delay the Zuhr prayer till it becomes (a bit) cooler because the severity of heat is from the raging of the Hell-fire. The Hell-fire of Hell complained to its Lord saying: O Lord! My parts are eating (destroying) one another. So Allah allowed it to take two breaths, one in the winter and the other in the summer. عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ أَنَّهُ قَالَ شِدَّةُ الْحَرِّ مِنْ فَيْحِ جَهَنَّمَ فَأَبْرِدُوا بِالصَّلَاةِ

"The Messenger of Allah said: 'Wait for it to cool down before you pray, for intense heat is from the flaring up of the Hell-fire.'" (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 679)

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ أَبْرِدُوا بِالظُّهْرِ فَإِنَّ شِدَّةَ الْحَرِّ مِنْ فَيْحِ جَهَنَّمَ

[AI] "We came from a funeral, and we passed by Abu Dharr. He said, 'We were with the Prophet ﷺ on a journey when the Muadhin (caller to prayer) wanted to call the Adhan for Dhuhr prayer. The Prophet ﷺ said, 'Cool down (wait), then he wanted to call the Adhan again, and the Prophet ﷺ said, 'Cool down,' and on the third time he said, 'The third time is the most knowledgeable. Then we saw the shade of a tree and the Prophet ﷺ said, 'Indeed, the intensity of the heat is from the heat of Hellfire, so when the heat intensifies, cool down with prayer.'"

جِئْنَا مِنْ جَنَازَةٍ فَمَرَرْنَا بِأَبِي ذَرٍّ فَقَالَ كُنَّا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فِي سَفَرٍ فَأَرَادَ الْمُؤَذِّنُ أَنْ يُؤَذِّنَ لِلظُّهْرِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ أَبْرِدْ ثُمَّ أَرَادَ أَنْ يُؤَذِّنَ فَقَالَ لَهُ أَبْرِدْ وَالثَّالِثَةَ أَكْبَرُ عِلْمِي شُعْبَةُ قَالَ لَهُ حَتَّى رَأَيْنَا فَيْءَ التُّلُولِ قَالَ إِنَّ شِدَّةَ الْحَرِّ مِنْ فَيْحِ جَهَنَّمَ فَإِذَا اشْتَدَّ الْحَرُّ فَأَبْرِدُوا بِالصَّلَاةِ

[AI] We were informed by a migrant, Abi al-Hasan from the tribe of Taym Allah, who was their freed slave. He said, "We returned from a funeral procession and passed by Zaid ibn Wahb, who narrated from Abu Dharr. He said, 'We were traveling with the Prophet ﷺ when the Mu'adhin wanted to call the adhan. The Prophet ﷺ told him to wait and then he wanted to call the adhan again. The Prophet ﷺ told him to wait, and he repeated this three times. Until we saw the shade of the black crow. The Prophet ﷺ prayed and then said, 'The intensity of the heat is from the breath of Hell. So, when the weather is hot, cool yourselves with prayer.'"

أَخْبَرَنَا عَنْ مُهَاجِرٍ أَبِي الْحَسَنِ مِنْ بَنِي تَيْمِ اللهِ مَوْلًى لَهُمْ قَالَ رَجَعْنَا مِنْ جَنَازَةٍ فَمَرَرْنَا بِزَيْدِ بْنِ وَهْبٍ فَحَدَّثَ عَنْ أَبِي ذَرٍّ قَالَ كُنَّا مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فِي سَفَرٍ فَأَرَادَ الْمُؤَذِّنُ أَنْ يُؤَذِّنَ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ أَبْرِدْ ثُمَّ أَرَادَ أَنْ يُؤَذِّنَ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ أَبْرِدْ قَالَهَا ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ قَالَ حَتَّى رَأَيْنَا فَيْءَ التُّلُولِ فَصَلَّى ثُمَّ قَالَ إِنَّ شِدَّةَ الْحَرِّ مِنْ فَيْحِ جَهَنَّمَ فَإِذَا اشْتَدَّ الْحَرُّ فَأَبْرِدُوا بِالصَّلَاةِ

The Mu'adh-dhin (call-maker) of the Prophet ﷺ pronounced the Adhan (call) for the Zuhr prayer but the Prophet said, "Let it be cooler, let it be cooler." Or said, 'Wait, wait, because the severity of heat is from the raging of the Hell-fire. In severe hot weather, pray when it becomes (a bit) cooler and the shadows of hillocks appear." (Using translation from Bukhārī 535)

أَذَّنَ مُؤَذِّنُ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ بِالظُّهْرِ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ أَبْرِدْ أَبْرِدْ أَوْقَالَ انْتَظِرْ انْتَظِرْ وَقَالَ إِنَّ شِدَّةَ الْحَرِّ مِنْ فَيْحِ جَهَنَّمَ فَإِذَا اشْتَدَّ الْحَرُّ فَأَبْرِدُوا عَنِ الصَّلَاةِ قَالَ أَبُو ذَرٍّ حَتَّى رَأَيْنَا فَيْءَ التُّلُولِ

[AI] "From his father, who used to perform Hajj with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , that a man from the Companions of the Prophet ﷺ said: Hajjaj saw Abdullah from the Prophet ﷺ who said: Verily, the intensity of the heat is from the exhalation of Hellfire. So, when the heat becomes intense, then cool down from performing the prayer."

عَنْ أَبِيهِ وَكَانَ يَحُجُّ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ عَنْ رَجُلٍ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ حَجَّاجٌ أُرَاهُ عَبْدَ اللهِ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ أَنَّهُ قَالَ إِنَّ شِدَّةَ الْحَرِّ مِنْ فَيْحِ جَهَنَّمَ فَإِذَا اشْتَدَّ الْحَرُّ فَأَبْرِدُوا عَنِ الصَّلَاةِ

Malik related to us from Abdullah ibn Yazid the mawla of al-Aswad ibn Sufyan, from Abu Salama ibn Abd ar-Rahman from Muhammad ibn Abd ar-Rahman ibn Thawban from Abu Hurayra that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "When the heat is fierce delay the prayer until it gets cooler, for scorching heat is a part of the blast of Jahannam." He added, "The Fire complained to its Lord, so He allowed it two breaths in each year, a breath in winter and a breath in summer."

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ إِذَا اشْتَدَّ الْحَرُّ فَأَبْرِدُوا عَنِ الصَّلاَةِ فَإِنَّ شِدَّةَ الْحَرِّ مِنْ فَيْحِ جَهَنَّمَ وَذَكَرَ أَنَّ النَّارَ اشْتَكَتْ إِلَى رَبِّهَا فَأَذِنَ لَهَا فِي كُلِّ عَامٍ بِنَفَسَيْنِ نَفَسٍ فِي الشِّتَاءِ وَنَفَسٍ فِي الصَّيْفِ

Yahya related to me from Malik from Abu'z Zinad from al-Araj from Abu Hurayra that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "When the heat is fierce, wait until it gets cooler before you do the prayer, for scorching heat is from the blast of Jahannam."

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ إِذَا اشْتَدَّ الْحَرُّ فَأَبْرِدُوا عَنِ الصَّلاَةِ فَإِنَّ شِدَّةَ الْحَرِّ مِنْ فَيْحِ جَهَنَّمَ

The Messenger of Allah said: "When it is very hot, then wait for it to cool down before you pray, for intense heat is from the flaring up of the Hell-fire." (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 678)

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ «أَبْرِدُوا بِصَلَاةِ الظُّهْرِ فَإِنَّ شِدَّةَ الْحَرِّ مِنْ فَيْحِ جَهَنَّمَ»

"The Messenger of Allah said: 'When it is very hot, then wait for it to cool down before you pray, for intense heat is from the flaring up of the Hell-fire.'" (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 677)

عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ «إِذَا اشْتَدَّ الْحَرُّ فَأَبْرِدُوا بِالصَّلَاةِ فَإِنَّ شِدَّةَ الْحَرِّ مِنْ فَيْحِ جَهَنَّمَ»

"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'If it is very hot, wait until it cools down before you pray, for intense heat is a breeze from Hell.'" (Using translation from Nasāʾī 500)

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ «إِذَا اشْتَدَّ الْحَرُّ فَأَبْرِدُوا عَنِ الصَّلَاةِ فَإِنَّ شِدَّةَ الْحَرِّ مِنْ فَيْحِ جَهَنَّمَ»

We were praying Zuhr with the Messenger of Allah at the time of intense heat (i.e., midday when the sun has just passed its zenith) and he said to us, "Wait for it to cool down before you pray, for intense heat is from the flaring up of the Hell-fire." (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 680)

كُنَّا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ بِالْهَاجِرَةِ فَقَالَ «أَبْرِدُوا بِالصَّلَاةِ فَإِنَّ شِدَّةَ الْحَرِّ مِنْ فَيْحِ جَهَنَّمَ»

[AI] Abu Dharr heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying: "We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ during a journey and the Muadhin intended to call the Adhan for Dhur prayer. The Prophet ﷺ told him, 'Cool down.' Then he intended to call the Adhan again and the Prophet ﷺ told him, 'Cool down' two or three times until we saw the shadow of a hillock. The Prophet ﷺ then said, 'Indeed, the intense heat is a portion of the Hellfire. So when it is extremely hot, cool yourselves with prayer.'"

سَمِعَ أَبَا ذَرٍّ يَقُولُ كُنَّا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فِي سَفَرٍ فَأَرَادَ الْمُؤَذِّنُ أَنْ يُؤَذِّنَ بِالظُّهْرِ فَقَالَ لَهُ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «أَبْرِدْ» ثُمَّ أَرَادَ أَنْ يُؤَذِّنَ فَقَالَ لَهُ «أَبْرِدْ» مَرَّتَيْنِ أَوْ ثَلَاثًا حَتَّى رَأَيْنَا فَيْءَ التُّلُولِ وَقَالَ «إِنَّ شِدَّةَ الْحَرِّ مِنْ فَيْحِ جَهَنَّمَ فَإِذَا اشْتَدَّ الْحَرُّ فَأَبْرِدُوا بِالصَّلَاةِ»

عَن النَّبِيّ ﷺ قال إذا اشتد الحر فأبردوا بالصلاة فإن شدة الحر من فيح جهنم

عَن النَّبِيّ ﷺ؛ أَنَّه قال إذا اشتد الحر فأبردوا بالصلاة يعني صلاة الظهر فإن شدة الحر من فيح جهنم

عَن النَّبِيّ ﷺ قال إذا كان اليوم الحار فأبردوا بالصلاة فإن شدة الحر من فيح جهنم ما روى سَعِيد بن يسار عَن أَبِي هُرَيرة

قَالَ قَالَ رَسُول اللهِ ﷺ إن شدة الحر من فيح جهنم فأبردوا بالصلاة

When the heat is violent, offer (the Zuhr) prayer when it becomes fairly cool, for the violent heat comes from the bubbling over the Hell. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 402)

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ إِذَا اشْتَدَّ الْحَرُّ فَأَبْرِدُوا عَنِ الصَّلَاةِ قَالَ ابْنُ مَوْهَبٍ بِالصَّلَاةِ فَإِنَّ شِدَّةَ الْحَرِّ مِنْ فَيْحِ جَهَنَّمَ

[AI] I heard Abu Dharr saying, "We were with the Prophet ﷺ, and the Mu'adhdhin intended to call for the Dhuhr (midday) prayer. Abu Dharr said, 'Wait a bit.' Then the Mu'adhdhin intended to call for the prayer again, and Abu Dharr said, 'Wait a bit' two or three times until we saw a white spot in the horizon. Then Abu Dharr said, 'The intensity of heat is from the heat of Hell, so when it is very hot, cool it down with prayer.' Abu Dawud said, 'He (Abu Dharr) was a Muhajir and the companion of Abu al-Hasan.'"

سَمِعْتُ أَبَا ذَرٍّ يَقُولُ كُنَّا مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَأَرَادَ الْمُؤَذِّنُ أَنْ يُؤَذِّنَ الظُّهْرَ فَقَالَ أَبْرِدْ ثُمَّ أَرَادَ أَنْ يُؤَذِّنَ فَقَالَ أَبْرِدْ مَرَّتَيْنِ أَوْ ثَلَاثًا حَتَّى رَأَيْنَا فَيْءَ التُّلُولِ ثُمَّ قَالَ إِنَّ شِدَّةَ الْحَرِّ مِنْ فَيْحِ جَهَنَّمَ فَإِذَا اشْتَدَّ الْحَرُّ فَأَبْرِدُوا بِالصَّلَاةِ قَالَ أَبُو دَاوُدَ هُوَ مُهَاجِرٌ أَبُو الْحَسَنِ

[AI] The Prophet ﷺ called the Muadhin to give the call to the Dhuhr prayer, then he said to him, "Make it cooler, make it cooler." He also said, "Wait, wait." He said, "Indeed, the intensity of the heat is from the breath of Hell, so when it gets very hot, cool down from praying." Abu Dharr said, "We kept waiting until we saw the white mark on the horizon."

أَذَّنَ مُؤَذِّنُ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ الظُّهْرَ فَقَالَ لَهُ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ أَبْرِدْ أَبْرِدْ وَقَالَ انْتَظِرِ انْتَظِرْ وَقَالَ إِنَّ شِدَّةَ الْحَرِّ مِنْ فَيْحِ جَهَنَّمَ فَإِذَا اشْتَدَّ الْحَرُّ فَأَبْرِدُوا عَنِ الصَّلَاةِ قَالَ أَبُو ذَرٍّ حَتَّى رَأَيْنَا فَيْءَ التُّلُولِ
