Whenever we prayed behind the Prophet ﷺ we used to recite (in sitting) 'Peace be on Gabriel, Michael, peace be on so and so. Once Messenger of Allah ﷺ looked back at us and said, 'Allah Himself is As-Salam (Peace), and if anyone of you prays then he should say, at-Tahiyatu li l-lahi wa ssalawatu wa t-taiyibat. As-salamu ʿalalika aiyuha n-Nabiyu wa rahmatu l-lahi wa barakatuh. Assalamu ʿalaina wa ʿala ʿibadi l-lahi s-salihin. (All the compliments, prayers and good things are due to Allah; peace be on you, O Prophet, and Allah's mercy and blessings [be on you]. Peace be on us an on the pious subjects of Allah). (If you say that, it will reach all the subjects in the heaven and the earth). Ash-hadu al-la ilaha illa l-lah, wa ash-hadu anna Muhammadan ʿAbduhu wa Rasuluh. (I testify that there is no Deity [worthy of worship] but Allah, and I testify that Muhammad is His slave and His Apostle).

كُنَّا إِذَا صَلَّيْنَا خَلْفَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قُلْنَا السَّلاَمُ عَلَى جِبْرِيلَ وَمِيكَائِيلَ السَّلاَمُ عَلَى فُلاَنٍ وَفُلاَنٍ فَالْتَفَتَ إِلَيْنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ إِنَّ اللَّهَ هُوَ السَّلاَمُ فَإِذَا صَلَّى أَحَدُكُمْ فَلْيَقُلِ التَّحِيَّاتُ لِلَّهِ وَالصَّلَوَاتُ وَالطَّيِّبَاتُ السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ وَرَحْمَةُ اللَّهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَى عِبَادِ اللَّهِ الصَّالِحِينَ فَإِنَّكُمْ إِذَا قُلْتُمُوهَا أَصَابَتْ كُلَّ عَبْدٍ لِلَّهِ صَالِحٍ فِي السَّمَاءِ وَالأَرْضِ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ

When we prayed with the Prophet ﷺ we used to say, "Peace be on Allah from His slaves and peace be on so and so." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Don't say As-Salam be on Allah, for He Himself is As-Salam, but say, at-tahiyatu li l-lahi wa s-salawatu wa t-taiyibat. As-salamu ʿalaika aiyuha n-Nabiyu wa rahmatu l-lahi wa barakatuh. As-salamu ʿalaina wa ʿala ʿibadi l-lahi s-salihin. (If you say this then it will reach all the slaves in heaven or between heaven and earth). Ash-hadu al la-ilaha illa l-lah, wa ash-hadu anna Muhammadan ʿAbduhu wa Rasuluh.' Then select the invocation you like best and recite it." (See Hadith No. 794, 795 & 796).

كُنَّا إِذَا كُنَّا مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فِي الصَّلاَةِ قُلْنَا السَّلاَمُ عَلَى اللَّهِ مِنْ عِبَادِهِ السَّلاَمُ عَلَى فُلاَنٍ وَفُلاَنٍ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ لاَ تَقُولُوا السَّلاَمُ عَلَى اللَّهِ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ هُوَ السَّلاَمُ وَلَكِنْ قُولُوا التَّحِيَّاتُ لِلَّهِ وَالصَّلَوَاتُ وَالطَّيِّبَاتُ السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ وَرَحْمَةُ اللَّهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَى عِبَادِ اللَّهِ الصَّالِحِينَ فَإِنَّكُمْ إِذَا قُلْتُمْ أَصَابَ كُلَّ عَبْدٍ فِي السَّمَاءِ أَوْ بَيْنَ السَّمَاءِ وَالأَرْضِ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ ثُمَّ يَتَخَيَّرُ مِنَ الدُّعَاءِ أَعْجَبَهُ إِلَيْهِ فَيَدْعُو

When we prayed with the Prophet ﷺ we used to say: As-Salam be on Allah from His worshipers, As- Salam be on Gabriel, As-Salam be on Michael, As-Salam be on so-and-so. When the Prophet ﷺ finished his prayer, he faced us and said, "Allah Himself is As-Salam (Peace), so when one sits in the prayer, one should say, 'at-Tahiyatu-li l-lahi Was-Salawatu, Wat-Taiyibatu, As-Salamu 'Alaika aiyuhan- Nabiyyu wa Rah-matul-iahi wa Barakatuhu, As-Salamu 'Alaina wa 'ala 'Ibadillahi assalihin, for if he says so, then it will be for all the pious slave of Allah in the Heavens and the Earth. (Then he should say), 'Ash-hadu an la ilaha illalllahu wa ash-hadu anna Muhammadan ʿAbduhu wa rasulu-hu,' and then he can choose whatever speech (i.e. invocation) he wishes " (See Hadith No. 797, Vol. 1).

كُنَّا إِذَا صَلَّيْنَا مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قُلْنَا السَّلاَمُ عَلَى اللَّهِ قَبْلَ عِبَادِهِ السَّلاَمُ عَلَى جِبْرِيلَ السَّلاَمُ عَلَى مِيكَائِيلَ السَّلاَمُ عَلَى فُلاَنٍ فَلَمَّا انْصَرَفَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ أَقْبَلَ عَلَيْنَا بِوَجْهِهِ فَقَالَ إِنَّ اللَّهَ هُوَ السَّلاَمُ فَإِذَا جَلَسَ أَحَدُكُمْ فِي الصَّلاَةِ فَلْيَقُلِ التَّحِيَّاتُ لِلَّهِ وَالصَّلَوَاتُ وَالطَّيِّبَاتُ السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ وَرَحْمَةُ اللَّهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَى عِبَادِ اللَّهِ الصَّالِحِينَ فَإِنَّهُ إِذَا قَالَ ذَلِكَ أَصَابَ كُلَّ عَبْدٍ صَالِحٍ فِي السَّمَاءِ وَالأَرْضِ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ ثُمَّ يَتَخَيَّرْ بَعْدُ مِنَ الْكَلاَمِ مَا شَاءَ

While observing prayer behind the Messenger of Allah ﷺ we used to recite: Peace be upon Allah, peace be upon so and so. One day the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to us: Verily Allah is Himself Peace. When any one of you sits during the prayer, he should say: All services rendered by words, by acts of worship, and all good things are due to Allah. Peace be upon you, O Prophet, and Allah's mercy and blessings. Peace be upon us and upon Allah's upright servants, for when he says this it reaches every upright servant in the heavens and the earth. (And say further): I testify that there is no god but Allah and I testify that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger. Then he may choose any supplication which pleases him and offer it.

كُنَّا نَقُولُ فِي الصَّلاَةِ خَلْفَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ السَّلاَمُ عَلَى اللَّهِ السَّلاَمُ عَلَى فُلاَنٍ فَقَالَ لَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ ذَاتَ يَوْمٍ إِنَّ اللَّهَ هُوَ السَّلاَمُ فَإِذَا قَعَدَ أَحَدُكُمْ فِي الصَّلاَةِ فَلْيَقُلِ التَّحِيَّاتُ لِلَّهِ وَالصَّلَوَاتُ وَالطَّيِّبَاتُ السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ وَرَحْمَةُ اللَّهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَى عِبَادِ اللَّهِ الصَّالِحِينَ فَإِذَا قَالَهَا أَصَابَتْ كُلَّ عَبْدٍ لِلَّهِ صَالِحٍ فِي السَّمَاءِ وَالأَرْضِ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ ثُمَّ يَتَخَيَّرُ مِنَ الْمَسْأَلَةِ مَا شَاءَ

when we (prayed and) sat up during prayer along the Messenger of Allah (may peach be upon him), we said: “Peace be to Allah before it is supplicated for His servants; peace be to so and so. “The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Do not say “Peace be to Allah ,”for Allah Himself is peace. When one of you sits(during the prayer), he should say: The adoration of the tongue are due to Allah, and acts of worship and all good things. Peace be upon you, O Prophet, and Allah’s mercy and His blessings. Peace be upon us and upon Allah’s upright servants. When you say that, it reaches every upright servant in heavens and earth or between heavens and earth. I testify that there is no god but Allah, and I testify that Muhammad is His servant and apostle. Then he may choose any supplication which pleases him and offer it.

كُنَّا إِذَا جَلَسْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فِي الصَّلاَةِ قُلْنَا السَّلاَمُ عَلَى اللَّهِ قَبْلَ عِبَادِهِ السَّلاَمُ عَلَى فُلاَنٍ وَفُلاَنٍ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ لاَ تَقُولُوا السَّلاَمُ عَلَى اللَّهِ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ هُوَ السَّلاَمُ وَلَكِنْ إِذَا جَلَسَ أَحَدُكُمْ فَلْيَقُلِ التَّحِيَّاتُ لِلَّهِ وَالصَّلَوَاتُ وَالطَّيِّبَاتُ السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ وَرَحْمَةُ اللَّهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَى عِبَادِ اللَّهِ الصَّالِحِينَ فَإِنَّكُمْ إِذَا قُلْتُمْ ذَلِكَ أَصَابَ كُلَّ عَبْدٍ صَالِحٍ فِي السَّمَاءِ وَالأَرْضِ أَوْ بَيْنَ السَّمَاءِ وَالأَرْضِ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ ثُمَّ لْيَتَخَيَّرْ أَحَدُكُمْ مِنَ الدُّعَاءِ أَعْجَبَهُ إِلَيْهِ فَيَدْعُو بِهِ

"We used not to know what to say when we prayed, then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ taught us some eloquent and concise words. He said to us: 'Say: "At-tahiyyatu lillahi was-salawatu wat-tayyibat, as-salamu 'alaika ayyuhan-Nabiyyu wa rahmatAllahi wa baraktuhu. As-salamu 'alaina wa 'ala 'ibad illahis-salihin, ashahdu an la illaha ill-Allah wa ashhadu anna Muhammadan 'abduhu wa rasuluhu (Allah compliments, prayers and pure words are due to Allah. Peace be upon you, O Prophet, and the mercy of Allah (SWT) and his blessings. Peace be upon us and upon the righteous slaves of Allah (SWT). I bear witness that none has the right to be worshipped except Allah and I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger)." (One of the narrators) 'Ubaidullah said: "Zaid bin Hammad said, narrating from Ibrahim, that 'Alqamah said: 'I saw Ibn Mas'ud teaching us these words just as he taught us the Quran."

كُنَّا لاَ نَدْرِي مَا نَقُولُ إِذَا صَلَّيْنَا فَعَلَّمَنَا نَبِيُّ اللَّهِ ﷺ جَوَامِعَ الْكَلِمِ فَقَالَ لَنَا قُولُوا التَّحِيَّاتُ لِلَّهِ وَالصَّلَوَاتُ وَالطَّيِّبَاتُ السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ وَرَحْمَةُ اللَّهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَى عِبَادِ اللَّهِ الصَّالِحِينَ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ قَالَ عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ قَالَ زَيْدٌ عَنْ حَمَّادٍ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ عَلْقَمَةَ قَالَ لَقَدْ رَأَيْتُ ابْنَ مَسْعُودٍ يُعَلِّمُنَا هَؤُلاَءِ الْكَلِمَاتِ كَمَا يُعَلِّمُنَا الْقُرْآنَ

"When we prayed with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, we used to say: "Peace (As-Salam) be upon Allah (SWT), peace be upon Jibril, peace be upon Mika'il.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Do not say "Peace (As-Salam) be upon Allah, for Allah is As-Salam." Rather say: "At-tahiyyatu lillahi was-salawatu wat-tayyibat, as-salamu 'alaika ayyuhan-Nabiyyu wa rahmatAllahi wa baraktuhu. As-salamu 'alaina wa 'ala 'ibad illahis-salihin, ashahdu an la illaha ill-Allah wa ashhadu anna Muhammadan 'abduhu wa rasuluhu (Allah compliments, prayers and pure words are due to Allah. Peace be upon you, O Prophet, and the mercy of Allah (SWT) and his blessings. Peace be upon us and upon the righteous slaves of Allah (SWT). I bear witness that none has the right to be worshipped except Allah and I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger)."

"We used to pray with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and we would say: "Peace (As-Salam) be upon Allah (SWT), peace be upon Jibril, peace be upon Mika'il.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Do not say "Peace (As-Salam) be upon Allah, for Allah is As-Salam." Rather say: "At-tahiyyatu lillahi was-salawatu wat-tayyibat, as-salamu 'alaika ayyuhan-Nabiyyu wa rahmatAllahi wa baraktuhu. كُنَّا نُصَلِّي مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَنَقُولُ السَّلاَمُ عَلَى اللَّهِ السَّلاَمُ عَلَى جِبْرِيلَ السَّلاَمُ عَلَى مِيكَائِيلَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ لاَ تَقُولُوا السَّلاَمُ عَلَى اللَّهِ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ هُوَ السَّلاَمُ وَلَكِنْ قُولُوا التَّحِيَّاتُ لِلَّهِ وَالصَّلَوَاتُ وَالطَّيِّبَاتُ السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ وَرَحْمَةُ اللَّهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَى عِبَادِ اللَّهِ الصَّالِحِينَ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ

"When we sat during the prayer with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, we used to say: 'Peace (salam) be upon Allah(SWT), peace be upon so-and-so and so-and-so.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Do not say peace (salam) be upon Allah (SWT), for Allah (SWT) is As-Salam (the Source of peace; the One free from all faults). Rather say: At-tahiyyatu lillahi wasalawatu wat-tayibaat, as-salamu 'alaika ayah-Nabiyyu wa rahmatAllahi wa baraktuhu. As-salamu 'alaina a 'ala ibad illahis-salihin (All compliments, prayers and pure words are due to Allah. Peace be upon you O Prophet, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. Peace be upon us and upon the righteous slaves of Allah.) If you say that, it will be for every righteous slave in the heavens and on earth, "ashadu an la ilaha ill Allah, wa ashhadu anna Muhammadan 'abduhu wa rasuluhu (I bear witness that that none has the right to be worshipped except Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and messenger.) Then let him choose any supplication that he likes to say after that.'"

كُنَّا إِذَا جَلَسْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فِي الصَّلاَةِ قُلْنَا السَّلاَمُ عَلَى اللَّهِ مِنْ عِبَادِهِ السَّلاَمُ عَلَى فُلاَنٍ وَفُلاَنٍ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ لاَ تَقُولُوا السَّلاَمُ عَلَى اللَّهِ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ هُوَ السَّلاَمُ وَلَكِنْ إِذَا جَلَسَ أَحَدُكُمْ فَلْيَقُلِ التَّحِيَّاتُ لِلَّهِ وَالصَّلَوَاتُ وَالطَّيِّبَاتُ السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ وَرَحْمَةُ اللَّهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَى عِبَادِ اللَّهِ الصَّالِحِينَ فَإِنَّكُمْ إِذَا قُلْتُمْ ذَلِكَ أَصَابَتْ كُلَّ عَبْدٍ صَالِحٍ فِي السَّمَاءِ وَالأَرْضِ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ ثُمَّ لْيَتَخَيَّرْ مِنَ الدُّعَاءِ بَعْدُ أَعْجَبَهُ إِلَيْهِ يَدْعُو بِهِ

“When we performed prayer with the Prophet ﷺ we said: ‘Peace be upon Allah from His slaves, peace be upon Jibra’il and Mika’il and so-and-so and so-and- so.’ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ heard us and said: ‘Do not say peace (Salam) be upon Allah, for He is As-Salam. When you sit (during prayer) say: At-Tahiyyatu lillahi was-salawatu wat-tayyibatu; as- salamu ‘alayka ayyuhan-Nabiyyu wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu; as- salamu ‘alayna wa ‘ala ‘ibadillahis-salihin (All compliments, prayers and good words are due to Allah; peace be upon you, O Prophet, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings; peace be upon us and upon the righteous slaves of Allah).” For as you say that it will reach every righteous slave in the heavens and on earth. (Then say:) “Ashhadu an la ilaha illallah wa ashhadu anna Muhammadan ‘abduhu wa Rasuluhu (I bear witness that none has the right to be worshipped but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger).” (Another chain) with similar wording. (Another chain) that ʿAbdullah bin Masʿud said: "The Prophet ﷺ used to teach us the Tashahhud." And he mentioned similarly.

when we (prayed and) sat up during prayer along the Messenger of Allah (may peach be upon him), we said: “Peace be to Allah before it is supplicated for His servants; peace be to so and so. “The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Do not say “Peace be to Allah ,”for Allah Himself is peace. When one of you sits(during the prayer), he should say: The adoration of the tongue are due to Allah, and acts of worship and all good things. Peace be upon you, O Prophet, and Allah’s mercy and His blessings. Peace be upon us and upon Allah’s upright servants. When you say that, it reaches every upright servant in heavens and earth or between heavens and earth. I testify that there is no god but Allah, and I testify that Muhammad is His servant and apostle. Then he may choose any supplication which pleases him and offer it. [AI] "We used to not know what we are saying in prayer. We used to say 'Peace be upon Allah, peace be upon Gabriel, peace be upon Michael.' The Prophet ﷺ taught us and said, 'Indeed, Allah is the Peace. So when you sit in tashahhud, say the greetings to Allah, the prayers, and the good words. Peace be upon you, O Prophet, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. Peace be upon us and upon the righteous servants of Allah.' Abu Wa'il said in his narration from Abdullah, who narrated from the Prophet ﷺ, 'When you say it, every righteous servant in the heavens and the earth is affected.' Abu Ishaq also said in his narration from Abdullah, who narrated from the Prophet ﷺ, 'When you say it, it reaches every near angel, or sent prophet, or righteous servant. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger.'"

So when you sit for the two prostrations, say: 'All compliments, prayers, and good words are due to Allah. Peace be upon you, O Prophet, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. Peace be upon us and upon the righteous servants of Allah.' Abu Wail said in his narration that Abdullah said: "When I said it, every close angel, sent prophet, and righteous servant was covered." I bear witness that there is no deity except Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger."

And Abu Ishaq reported in his hadith from Abdullah that the Prophet ﷺ said, 'When you say it, it reaches every near and distant servant, prophetic messenger, or righteous servant. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and messenger.'"

كُنَّا لَا نَدْرِي مَا نَقُولُ فِي الصَّلَاةِ نَقُولُ السَّلَامُ عَلَى اللَّهِ السَّلَامُ عَلَى جِبْرِيلَ السَّلَامُ عَلَى مِيكَائِيلَ فَعَلَّمَنَا النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَقَالَ «إِنَّ اللَّهَ هُوَ السَّلَامُ فَإِذَا جَلَسْتُمْ فِي رَكْعَتَيْنِ فَقُولُوا التَّحِيَّاتُ لِلَّهِ وَالصَّلَوَاتُ وَالطَّيِّبَاتُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ وَرَحْمَةُ اللَّهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَى عِبَادِ اللَّهِ الصَّالِحِينَ قَالَ أَبُو وَائِلٍ فِي حَدِيثِهِ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ إِذَا قُلْتَهَا أَصَابَتْ كُلَّ عَبْدٍ صَالِحٍ فِي السَّمَاءِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَقَالَ أَبُو إِسْحَاقَ فِي حَدِيثِهِ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ إِذَا قُلْتَهَا أَصَابَتْ كُلَّ عَبْدٍ مُقَرَّبٍ وَنَبِيٍّ مُرْسَلٍ أَوْ عَبْدٍ صَالِحٍ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ»

قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ أُمِرْتُ أَنْ أُقَاتِلَ النَّاسَ حَتَّى يَقُولُوا لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ فَإِذَا قَالُوهَا مَنَعُوا مِنِّي دِمَاءَهُمْ وَأَمْوَالَهُمْ إِلَّا بِحَقِّهَا وَحِسَابُهُمْ عَلَى اللَّهِ وَهَذَا الْحَدِيثُ لَا نَعْلَمُهُ يُرْوَى عَنْ أَنَسٍ عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرٍ إِلَّا مِنْ هَذَا الْوَجْهِ وَأَحْسَبُ أَنَّ عِمْرَانَ أَخْطَأَ فِي إِسْنَادِهِ ؛ لِأَنَّ الْحَدِيثَ رَوَاهُ مَعْمَرٌ وَإِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ وَابْنُ إِسْحَاقَ وَالنُّعْمَانُ بْنُ رَاشِدٍ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ أَنَّ عُمَرَ قَالَ لِأَبِي بَكْرٍ كَيْفَ تُقَاتِلُ النَّاسَ وَقَدْ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ أُمِرْتُ أَنْ أُقَاتِلَ النَّاسَ حَتَّى يَقُولُوا لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ فَقَالَ لَوْ مَنَعُونِي عَنَاقًا أَوْ عِقَالًا مِمَّا كَانُوا يُؤَدُّونَهُ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ لَقَاتَلْتُهُمْ عَلَيْهِ فَقَلَبَ عِمْرَانُ إِسْنَادَ هَذَا الْحَدِيثِ فَجَعَلَهُ عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ أَنَسٍ عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرٍ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى قَالَ نَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْأَنْصَارِيُّ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ ثُمَامَةَ عَنْ أَنَسٍ

أَنَّهُ قَالَ لِأَبِي بَكْرٍ كَيْفَ تُقَاتِلُ النَّاسَ وَقَدْ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ أُمِرْتُ أَنْ أُقَاتِلَ النَّاسَ حَتَّى يَقُولُوا لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ قَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ لَوْ مَنَعُونِي عَنَاقًا مِمَّا كَانُوا يُؤَدُّونَهُ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ لَقَاتَلْتُهُمْ عَلَيْهِ قَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ وَهَذَا الْحَدِيثُ رَوَاهُ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ مَعْمَرٌ وَالنُّعْمَانُ وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ وَإِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ وَغَيْرُهُمْ فَاجْتَزَينَا بِمَعْمَرٍ وَقَالَ صَالِحُ بْنُ أَبِي الْأَخْضَرِ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ سَعِيدٍ وَأَبِي سَلَمَةَ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ عَنْ عُمَرَ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَقَدْ رُوِيَ فِي هَذَا الْبَابِ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ أَحَادِيثُ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ وَابْنِ عُمَرَ وَجَابِرٍ وَأَنَسٍ وَغَيْرِهِمْ فِي لَوْ مَنَعُونِي عَنَاقًا أَوْ عِقَالًا

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فِي التَّشَهُّدِ ثُمَّ ذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ بِطُولِهِ وَهَذَا الْحَدِيثُ لَا نَعْلَمُ رَوَاهُ عَنْ شُعْبَةَ عَنِ الْحَكَمِ إِلَّا بَدَلُ بْنُ الْمُحَبَّرِ حَدَّثَنَا مَحْمُودُ بْنُ بَكْرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي قَالَ نا عِيسَى بْنُ الْمُخْتَارِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى عَنِ الْحَكَمِ بْنِ عُتَيْبَةَ عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ كُنَّا إِذَا جَلَسْنَا فِي الصَّلَاةِ لِلتَّشَهُّدِ قُلْنَا السَّلَامُ عَلَى اللَّهِ قَبْلَ عِبَادِهِ السَّلَامُ عَلَى جِبْرِيلَ السَّلَامُ عَلَى مِيكَائِيلَ وَإِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَلَّمَنَا أَنْ نَقُولَ فِي التَّشَهُّدِ التَّحِيَّاتُ لِلَّهِ وَالصَّلَوَاتُ وَالطَّيِّبَاتُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ وَرَحْمَةُ اللَّهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَى عَبَّادِ اللَّهِ الصَّالِحِينَ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ أَنَّهُ عَلَّمَهُمُ التَّشَهُّدَ التَّحِيَّاتُ لِلَّهِ وَالصَّلَوَاتُ وَالطَّيِّبَاتُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ وَرَحْمَةُ اللَّهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَى عِبَادِ اللَّهِ الصَّالِحِينَ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ قَالَ وَيُعَلِّمُنَا هَذَا الدُّعَاءَ كَمَا يُعَلِّمُنَا الْقُرْآنَ اللَّهُمَّ أَصْلِحْ ذَاتَ بَيْنِنَا وَأَلِّفْ بَيْنَ قُلُوبِنَا وَاهْدِنَا لِسُبُلِ السَّلَامِ وَجَنِّبْنَا الْفَوَاحِشَ مَا ظَهَرَ مِنْهَا وَمَا بَطَنَ اللَّهُمَّ بَارِكْ لَنَا فِي أَسْمَاعِنَا وَأَبْصَارِنَا وَأَزْوَاجِنَا وَذُرِّيَّاتِنَا وَتُبْ عَلَيْنَا إِنَّكَ أَنْتَ التَّوَّابُ الرَّحِيمُ اللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْنَا شَاكِرِينَ لِنِعْمَتِكَ مُثْنِينَ بِهَا قَابِلِيهَا وَأَتْمِمْهَا عَلَيْنَا يَا أَرْحَمَ الرَّاحِمِينَ وَهَذَا الْحَدِيثُ بِهَذَا اللَّفْظِ لَا نَعْلَمُ رَوَاهُ إِلَّا جَامِعُ بْنُ أَبِي رَاشِدٍ عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ

قَالَ كُنَّا نَقُولُ فِي الصَّلَاةِ السَّلَامُ عَلَى اللَّهِ السَّلَامُ عَلَى فُلَانٍ السَّلَامُ عَلَى فُلَانٍ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِنَّ اللَّهَ هُوَ السَّلَامُ فَقُولُوا التَّحِيَّاتُ لِلَّهِ وَالصَّلَوَاتُ وَالطَّيِّبَاتُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ وَرَحْمَةُ اللَّهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَى عَبَّادِ اللَّهِ الصَّالِحِينَ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ فَإِنَّكُمْ إِذَا قُلْتُمُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَى عَبَّادِ اللَّهِ الصَّالِحِينَ أَصَابَ كُلَّ عَبْدٍ لِلَّهِ صَالِحٍ بَيْنَ السَّمَاءِ وَالْأَرْضِ ثُمَّ لِيَتَخَيَّرْ أَحَدُكُمْ مِنَ الدُّعَاءِ مَا أَحَبَّ وَهَذَا الْحَدِيثُ قَدْ رَوَاهُ غَيْرُ وَاحِدٍ عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ

[AI] When we sat in prayer, we said, "Peace be upon Allah, peace be upon us from our Lord, peace be upon Gabriel and Michael, peace be upon so and so." Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Indeed, Allah is As-Salam (the Source of Peace). So when you sit in prayer, say greetings to Allah, prayers, and good things. Peace be upon you, O Prophet, the mercy of Allah, and His blessings. Peace be upon us and upon the righteous servants of Allah." When he says that, every righteous servant in the heavens or on the earth is affected by it. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger, and then he chooses from speech what he wishes.

كُنَّا إِذَا قَعَدْنَا فِي الصَّلَاةِ قُلْنَا السَّلَامُ عَلَى اللهِ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْنَا مِنْ رَبِّنَا السَّلَامُ عَلَى جِبْرِيلَ وَمِيكَائِيلَ السَّلَامُ عَلَى فُلَانٍ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِنَّ اللهَ هُوَ السَّلَامُ إِذَا قَعَدْتُمْ فِي الصَّلَاةِ فَقُولُوا التَّحِيَّاتُ لِلَّهِ وَالصَّلَوَاتُ وَالطَّيِّبَاتُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَى عِبَادِ اللهِ الصَّالِحِينَ فَإِذَا قَالَ ذَلِكَ أَصَابَتْ كُلَّ عَبْدٍ صَالِحٍ فِي السَّمَاءِ أَوَ فِي الْأَرْضِ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ ثُمَّ يَتَخَيَّرُ مِنَ الْكَلَامِ مَا شَاءَ

[AI] From Hammad, Mansour, Husayn, Al-A'mash, and Abu Hashim, from Abu Wael and Abu Ishaq, from Al-Aswad and Abu Al-Ahwas, from Abdullah, who said: "We did not know what to say in the prayer, so we would say, 'Peace be upon Allah, peace be upon Jibril, peace be upon Mika'il.' But the Messenger of Allah ﷺ taught us the Tashahhud, so he said: 'Indeed, Allah is As-Salam. So, when you sit for two units, say greetings to Allah, prayers, and good things. Peace be upon you, O Prophet, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. Peace be upon us and upon the righteous servants of Allah.' Abu Wael said, regarding the hadith of Abdullah from the Prophet ﷺ : 'When you say it, it reaches every righteous servant in the heavens and the earth.' Abu Ishaq said, in the hadith of Abdullah: 'When you say it, it reaches every close angel, messenger prophet, or righteous servant.' I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger."

عَنْ حَمَّادٍ وَمَنْصُورٍ وَحُصَيْنٍ وَالْأَعْمَشِ وَأَبِي هَاشِمٍ عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ وَأَبِي إِسْحَاقَ عنِ الْأَسْوَدِ وَأَبِي الْأَحْوَصِ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ قَالَ كُنَّا لَا نَدْرِي مَا نَقُولُ فِي الصَّلَاةِ نَقُولُ السَّلَامُ عَلَى اللهِ السَّلَامُ عَلَى جِبْرِيلَ السَّلَامُ عَلَى مِيكَائِيلَ فَعَلَّمَنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ التَّشَهُّدَ فَقَالَ إِنَّ اللهَ هُوَ السَّلَامُ فَإِذَا جَلَسْتُمْ فِي رَكْعَتَيْنِ فَقُولُوا التَّحِيَّاتُ لِلَّهِ وَالصَّلَوَاتُ وَالطَّيِّبَاتُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَى عِبَادِ اللهِ الصَّالِحِينَ قَالَ أَبُو وَائِلٍ فِي حَدِيثِ عَبْدِ اللهِ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ إِذَا قُلْتَهَا أَصَابَتْ كُلَّ عَبْدٍ صَالِحٍ فِي السَّمَاءِ وَالْأَرْضِ قَالَ أَبُو إِسْحَاقَ فِي حَدِيثِ عَبْدِ اللهِ إِذَا قُلْتَهَا أَصَابَتْ كُلَّ مَلَكٍ مُقَرَّبٍ أَوَ نَبِيٍّ مُرْسَلٍ أَوَ عَبْدٍ صَالِحٍ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ

[AI] We used to say in prayer, "Peace be upon Allah, peace be upon Gabriel and Michael, and every angel whose name we know." Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Do not say, 'Peace be upon Allah,' for Allah is Peace." He then taught us, "Greetings to Allah, prayers, and good deeds. Peace be upon you, O Prophet, the mercy of Allah and His blessings. Peace be upon us and upon the righteous servants of Allah. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger. So when you say this, you have encompassed every angel, every prophet, and every righteous servant in your words."

كُنَّا نَقُولُ فِي الصَّلَاةِ السَّلَامُ عَلَى اللهِ السَّلَامُ عَلَى جِبْرِيلَ وَمِيكَائِيلَ وَكُلِّ مَلَكٍ نَعْلَمُ اسْمَهُ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «لَا تَقُولُوا السَّلَامُ عَلَى اللهِ؛ فَإِنَّ اللهَ هُوَ السَّلَامُ» ثُمَّ عَلَّمَنَا «التَّحِيَّاتُ لِلَّهِ وَالصَّلَوَاتُ وَالطَّيِّبَاتُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَى عِبَادِ اللهِ الصَّالِحِينَ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ فَإِذَا قُلْتُمْ هَذَا فَقَدْ دَخَلَ فِي قَوْلِكُمْ كُلُّ مَلَكٍ وَكُلُّ نَبِيٍّ وَكُلُّ عَبْدٍ صَالِحٍ»

[AI] We used to pray with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , and the people would say, "Peace be upon Allah, peace be upon Jibril (Gabriel), peace be upon Mikail (Michael), peace be upon the near angels." So the Prophet ﷺ said, "Do not say 'peace be upon Allah', for indeed Allah is As-Salam (the source of peace)." He taught them the Tashahhud and said, "Say: Greetings, prayers, and good deeds. Peace be upon you, O Prophet, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. Peace be upon us and upon the righteous servants of Allah. I bear witness that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger."

كُنَّا نُصَلِّي مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَكَانَ النَّاسُ يَقُولُونَ السَّلَامُ عَلَى اللهِ السَّلَامُ عَلَى جَبْرَائِيلَ السَّلَامُ عَلَى مِيكَائِيلَ السَّلَامُ عَلَى الْمَلَائِكَةِ الْمُقَرَّبِينَ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ «لَا تَقُولُوا السَّلَامُ عَلَى اللهِ؛ إِنَّ اللهَ هُوَ السَّلَامُ» قَالَ فَعَلَّمَهُمُ التَّشَهُّدَ فَقَالَ قُولُوا التَّحِيَّاتُ لِلَّهِ وَالصَّلَوَاتُ وَالطَّيِّبَاتُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَى عِبَادِ اللهِ الصَّالِحِينَ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ

[AI] About Mansour, Suleiman, Hammad, Abu Hashim, and Mugheera, from Abu Wael, from Abdullah who said:

"We used to say in our prayers: 'Peace be upon Allah, peace be upon Gabriel.' Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to us, 'Indeed, Allah is As-Salam (the Source of Peace), but you should say: Greetings belong to Allah, prayers and good deeds. Peace be upon you, O Prophet, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. Peace be upon us and upon the righteous servants of Allah. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and His Messenger.'"

عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ وَسُلَيْمَانَ وَحَمَّادٍ وَأَبِي هَاشِمٍ وَمُغِيرَةَ عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ قَالَ كُنَّا نَقُولُ فِي الصَّلَاةِ السَّلَامُ عَلَى اللهِ السَّلَامُ عَلَى جِبْرِيلَ فَقَالَ لَنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِنَّ اللهَ هُوَ السَّلَامُ وَلَكِنْ قُولُوا التَّحِيَّاتُ لِلَّهِ وَالصَّلَوَاتُ وَالطَّيِّبَاتُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَى عِبَادِ اللهِ الصَّالِحِينَ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ taught us the Tashahhud in prayer and the Tashahhud in need, so he said: "The Tashahhud in prayer (the greetings to Allah, the prayers, and the good deeds, peace be upon you, O Prophet, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings, peace be upon us and upon the righteous servants of Allah, I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and His Messenger)."

عَلَّمَنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ التَّشَهُّدَ فِي الصَّلَاةِ وَالتَّشَهُّدَ فِي الْحَاجَةِ فَقَالَ: «التَّشَهُّدُ فِي الصَّلَاةِ (التَّحِيَّاتُ لِلَّهِ وَالصَّلَوَاتُ وَالطَّيِّبَاتُ، السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ، السَّلَامُ عَلَيْنَا، وَعَلَى عَبَّادِ اللهِ الصَّالِحِينَ، أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ، وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ۔)

"We used not to know what to say when we prayed, then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ taught us some eloquent and concise words. He said to us: 'Say: "At-tahiyyatu lillahi was-salawatu wat-tayyibat, as-salamu 'alaika ayyuhan-Nabiyyu wa rahmatAllahi wa baraktuhu. As-salamu 'alaina wa 'ala 'ibad illahis-salihin, ashahdu an la illaha ill-Allah wa ashhadu anna Muhammadan 'abduhu wa rasuluhu (Allah compliments, prayers and pure words are due to Allah. (One of the narrators) 'Ubaidullah said: "Zaid bin Hammad said, narrating from Ibrahim, that 'Alqamah said: 'I saw Ibn Mas'ud teaching us these words just as he taught us the Quran." كُنَّا لَا نَدْرِي مَا نَقُولُ إِذَا صَلَّيْنَا فَعَلَّمَنَا نَبِيُّ اللهِ ﷺ جَوَامِعَ الْكَلَامِ فَقَالَ لَنَا: «قُولُوا (التَّحِيَّاتُ لِلَّهِ وَالصَّلَوَاتُ وَالطَّيِّبَاتُ، السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ، السَّلَامٌ عَلَيْنَا، وَعَلَى عَبَّادِ اللهِ الصَّالِحِينَ، أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ، وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ۔)»

"When we prayed with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, we used to say: "Peace (As-Salam) be upon Allah (SWT), peace be upon Jibril, peace be upon Mika'il.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Do not say "Peace (As-Salam) be upon Allah, for Allah is As-Salam." when we (prayed and) sat up during prayer along the Messenger of Allah (may peach be upon him), we said: “Peace be to Allah before it is supplicated for His servants; peace be to so and so. “The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Do not say “Peace be to Allah ,”for Allah Himself is peace. When one of you sits(during the prayer), he should say: The adoration of the tongue are due to Allah, and acts of worship and all good things. Peace be upon you, O Prophet, and Allah’s mercy and His blessings. Peace be upon us and upon Allah’s upright servants. When you say that, it reaches every upright servant in heavens and earth or between heavens and earth. I testify that there is no god but Allah, and I testify that Muhammad is His servant and apostle. Then he may choose any supplication which pleases him and offer it. [AI] We were with the Prophet ﷺ and a man came and he walked away. He said, "kill him." Then he said, "Do you testify that there is no god but Allah?" He said, "Yes, but he says it as a form of seeking refuge." Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: "Do not kill him, for I have been commanded to fight against people until they say there is no god but Allah. When they say it, they are protected by me in regard to their lives and wealth, except for what is due upon them. Their reckoning is with Allah." Abu Abdur-Rahman said: "This is a mistake. The correct narration is the one that comes after it." 3428 Abu Abdur-Rahman informed us: Ahmed ibn Sulaiman said: Ubaidullah informed us: Israel narrated to us from Samaak, from Nu'man ibn Salim, from a man who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ entered upon us while we were in a dome in the Masjid of Madinah and he said, "It has been revealed to me that I must fight against people until they say there is no god but Allah." Similar to that. [415] 3429 Ahmed ibn Sulaiman informed us: Al-Hassan ibn Muhammad ibn A'yan said: Zuhair narrated to us: Samaak narrated to us from Nu'man ibn Salim, who said: I heard Aws saying: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ entered upon us while we were in a dome and he narrated the hadith.

كُنَّا مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَجَاءَ رَجُلٌ فَسَارَّهُ فَقَالَ «اقْتُلُوهُ» ثُمَّ قَالَ «أَتَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ؟» قَالَ نَعَمْ وَلَكِنَّهُ يَقُولُهَا تَعَوُّذًا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «لَا تَقْتُلُوهُ فَإِنِّي إِنَّمَا أُمِرْتُ أَنْ أُقَاتِلَ النَّاسَ حَتَّى يَقُولُوا لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ فَإِذَا قَالُوا عَصَمُوا مِنِّي دِمَاءَهُمْ وَأَمْوَالَهُمْ إِلَّا بِحَقِّهَا وَحِسَابُهُمْ عَلَى اللهِ» قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ حَدِيثُ الْأَسْوَدِ بْنِ عَامِرٍ هَذَا خَطَأٌ وَالصَّوَابُ الَّذِي بَعْدَهُ 3428 أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللهِ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْرَائِيلُ عَنْ سِمَاكٍ عَنِ النُّعْمَانِ بْنِ سَالِمٍ عَنْ رَجُلٍ حَدَّثَهُ قَالَ دَخَلَ عَلَيْنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ وَنَحْنُ فِي قُبَّةٍ فِي مَسْجِدِ الْمَدِينَةِ وَقَالَ فِيهِ «إِنَّهُ أُوحِيَ إِلَيَّ أَنْ أُقَاتِلَ النَّاسَ حَتَّى يَقُولُوا لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ» نَحْوَهُ [415] 3429 أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَعْيَنَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرٌ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سِمَاكٌ عَنِ النُّعْمَانِ بْنِ سَالِمٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَوْسًا يَقُولُ دَخَلَ عَلَيْنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ وَنَحْنُ فِي قُبَّةٍ وَسَاقَ الْحَدِيثَ

قَالَ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ مَسْعُودٍ ؓ كُنَّا إِذَا صَلَّيْنَا خَلْفَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ قُلْنَا السَّلَامُ عَلَى اللهِ دُونَ عِبَادِهِ السَّلَامُ عَلَى جَبْرَائِيلَ وَمِيكَائِيلَ وَالسَّلَامُ عَلَى فُلَانٍ وَفُلَانٍ فَالْتَفَتَ إِلَيْنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ إِنَّ اللهَ هُوَ السَّلَامُ إِذَا صَلَّى أَحَدُكُمْ فَلْيَقُلْ التَّحِيَّاتُ لِلَّهِ وَالصَّلَوَاتُ وَالطَّيِّبَاتُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَى عِبَادِ اللهِ الصَّالِحِينَ فَإِنَّكُمْ إِذَا قُلْتُمُوهَا أَصَابَتْ كُلَّ عَبْدٍ صَالِحٍ لِلَّهِ فِي السَّمَاءِ وَالْأَرْضِ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ

[AI] When we used to sit between the two prostrations during prayer, we did not know what to say except to praise and glorify Allah, and mention His name. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ taught us comprehensive and concise supplications. He came to us with a smile on his face and said, "When you sit between the two prostrations, say, 'Greetings, prayers, and good things are for Allah. Peace be upon you, O Prophet, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. Peace be upon us and upon the righteous servants of Allah. I bear witness that there is no god except Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger.' Abdullah (bin Mas'ud) said, 'When he says, 'Peace be upon us and upon the righteous servants of Allah,' every righteous servant or sent Prophet is blessed, and then he starts by praising Allah in the manner befitting Him, and by sending blessings upon the Prophet ﷺ . Then he may make other supplications."

كُنَّا إِذَا جَلَسْنَا بَيْنَ الرَّكْعَتَيْنِ فِي الصَّلَاةِ لَا نَدْرِي مَا نَقُولُ إِلَّا أَنْ نُسَبِّحَ وَنُكَبِّرَ وَنَذْكُرَ اللهَ وَإِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ عُلِّمَ جَوَامِعَ الْخَيْرِ وَفَوَاتِحَهُ فَأَقْبَلَ عَلَيْنَا بِوَجْهِهِ فَقَالَ إِذَا جَلَسْتُمْ بَيْنَ الرَّكْعَتَيْنِ فَقُولُوا التَّحِيَّاتُ لِلَّهِ وَالصَّلَوَاتُ وَالطَّيِّبَاتُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَى عِبَادِ اللهِ الصَّالِحِينَ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ قَالَ عَبْدُ اللهِ وَإِذَا قَالَ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَى عِبَادِ اللهِ الصَّالِحِينَ فَقَدْ أَصَابَتْ كُلَّ عَبْدٍ صَالِحٍ أَوْ نَبِيٍّ مُرْسَلٍ ثُمَّ يُبْتَدَأُ بِالثَّنَاءِ عَلَى اللهِ ﷻ وَالْمَدْحَةِ لَهُ بِمَا هُوَ أَهْلُهُ وَبِالصَّلَاةِ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ ثُمَّ يَسْأَلُ بَعْدُ

[AI] When we used to pray, we did not know what to say. We would say "Peace be upon Allah, peace be upon Gabriel, peace be upon Michael, peace be upon the prophets." Then the Messenger of Allah taught us and said, "Verily, Allah is the Peace, so when you pray, say greetings to Allah, prayers and good deeds. Peace be upon you, O Prophet, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. Peace be upon us and upon the righteous servants of Allah." Abu Wael said in his narration from Abdullah from the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, "When you say it, it reaches every near and dear angel, every sent prophet, and every righteous servant. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger." And Abu Muhammad informed us that Ismail narrated to us from Ahmad bin Mansur, who narrated from Yazid, who narrated from Sufyan, who narrated from Abu Ishaq, who narrated from Abu Al-Ahwas and Abu Ubaydah, who narrated from Abdullah, who narrated from the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, with a similar narration. This was recorded in Sahih from the narration of Mansur and Al-A'mash from Abu Wael from Abdullah, as was mentioned earlier.

كُنَّا إِذَا صَلَّيْنَا لَا نَدْرِي مَا نَقُولُ نَقُولُ السَّلَامُ عَلَى اللهِ السَّلَامُ عَلَى جَبْرَائِيلَ السَّلَامُ عَلَى مِيكَائِيلَ السَّلَامُ عَلَى النَّبِيِّينَ فَعَلَّمَنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ إِنَّ اللهَ هُوَ السَّلَامُ فَإِذَا صَلَّيْتُمْ فَقُولُوا التَّحِيَّاتُ لِلَّهِ وَالصَّلَوَاتُ وَالطَّيِّبَاتُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَى عِبَادِ اللهِ الصَّالِحِينَ قَالَ أَبُو وَائِلٍ فِي حَدِيثِهِ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَإِذَا قُلْتَهَا أَصَابَتْ كُلَّ مَلَكٍ مُقَرَّبٍ وَنَبِيٍّ مُرْسَلٍ وَعَبْدٍ صَالِحٍ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ وَأَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ 3961 وَأَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو مُحَمَّدٍ أنبأ إِسْمَاعِيلُ ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ ثنا يَزِيدُ ثنا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ أَبِي الْأَحْوَصِ وَأَبِي عُبَيْدَةَ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ نَحْوَهُ أَخْرَجَاهُ فِي الصَّحِيحِ مِنْ حَدِيثِ مَنْصُورٍ وَالْأَعْمَشِ عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ كَمَا مَضَى

"عن عبد الرحمن بن عبد القارى قال: سمعتُ عمر بن الخطاب يُعَلِّمُ النَّاسَ التشهدَ في الصلاة وهو على منبر رسول الله ﷺ يقول: أيها الناس! إذا جلسَ أحدكم لِيُسَلِّمَ من صلاته أو يَتَشهدَ في وسطها فليقل: بسم الله خير الأسماء، التحياتُ الصلواتُ الطيباتُ المباركاتُ لله أَرْبَعٌ أيها الناسُ! أشهد أن لا إله إلا الله، وأشهد أن محمدا عبده ورسوله (التشهد) أيها الناسُ! قبلَ السلامُ عليك أيها النبي ورحمة الله وبركاته، السلام علينا وعلى عبادِ الله الصالحين ولا يقول أحدكم:

السلامُ على جبريلَ، السلام على ميكائيل، السلام على ملائكة الله؛ إذا قال: السلام علينا وعلى عباد الله الصالحين، فقد سَلَّمَ على كل عبد صالح في السموات أو في الأرض، ثم لِيُسَلِّمْ".

"كُنَّا لَا نَدْرِى مَا نَقُولُ فِى الصَّلَاةِ فَكُنَّا نَقُولُ: السَّلَامُ عَلى الله السَّلَامُ عَلَى جبْرِيلَ السَّلَامُ عَلَى مِيكَائِيلَ، فَعَلَّمَنَا النَّبِىُّ ﷺ فَقَالَ: لَا تَقُولُوا السَّلَامُ عَلَى الله، فَإِنَّ الله هُوَ السَّلَامُ، فَإِذَا جَلَسْتُمْ في رَكْعَتَيْن، فَقُولُوا التَّحِيَّاتُ لله وَالصَّلَوَاتُ وَالطَّيِّبَاتُ، السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّها النَّبِىُّ وَرَحْمَةُ الله وَبَرَكَاتُهُ، السَّلَامُ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَى عِبَادِ الله الصالِحِينَ إِذَا قُلْتَهَا أَصَابَتْ كُلَّ عَبْدٍ صَالحٍ في السَّمَاءِ وَالأَرْض، وَفى لَفْظٍ، إِذَا قُلْتَهَا

أَصَابَتْ كُلَّ مَلَكٍ مُقَرَّبٍ أَوْ نَبِيٍ مُرْسَلٍ أَوْ عَبْدٍ صَالِحٍ، أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلهَ إِلَّا الله وَأَشْهَدُ أَن مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ".
