Whenever we prayed behind the Prophet ﷺ we used to recite (in sitting) 'Peace be on Gabriel, Michael, peace be on so and so. Once Messenger of Allah ﷺ looked back at us and said, 'Allah Himself is As-Salam (Peace), and if anyone of you prays then he should say, at-Tahiyatu li l-lahi wa ssalawatu wa t-taiyibat. As-salamu ʿalalika aiyuha n-Nabiyu wa rahmatu l-lahi wa barakatuh. Assalamu ʿalaina wa ʿala ʿibadi l-lahi s-salihin. (All the compliments, prayers and good things are due to Allah; peace be on you, O Prophet, and Allah's mercy and blessings [be on you]. Peace be on us an on the pious subjects of Allah). (If you say that, it will reach all the subjects in the heaven and the earth). Ash-hadu al-la ilaha illa l-lah, wa ash-hadu anna Muhammadan ʿAbduhu wa Rasuluh. (I testify that there is no Deity [worthy of worship] but Allah, and I testify that Muhammad is His slave and His Apostle).

كُنَّا إِذَا صَلَّيْنَا خَلْفَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قُلْنَا السَّلاَمُ عَلَى جِبْرِيلَ وَمِيكَائِيلَ السَّلاَمُ عَلَى فُلاَنٍ وَفُلاَنٍ فَالْتَفَتَ إِلَيْنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ إِنَّ اللَّهَ هُوَ السَّلاَمُ فَإِذَا صَلَّى أَحَدُكُمْ فَلْيَقُلِ التَّحِيَّاتُ لِلَّهِ وَالصَّلَوَاتُ وَالطَّيِّبَاتُ السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ وَرَحْمَةُ اللَّهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَى عِبَادِ اللَّهِ الصَّالِحِينَ فَإِنَّكُمْ إِذَا قُلْتُمُوهَا أَصَابَتْ كُلَّ عَبْدٍ لِلَّهِ صَالِحٍ فِي السَّمَاءِ وَالأَرْضِ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ

When we prayed with the Prophet ﷺ we used to say, "Peace be on Allah from His slaves and peace be on so and so." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Don't say As-Salam be on Allah, for He Himself is As-Salam, but say, at-tahiyatu li l-lahi wa s-salawatu wa t-taiyibat. As-salamu ʿalaika aiyuha n-Nabiyu wa rahmatu l-lahi wa barakatuh. As-salamu ʿalaina wa ʿala ʿibadi l-lahi s-salihin. (If you say this then it will reach all the slaves in heaven or between heaven and earth). Ash-hadu al la-ilaha illa l-lah, wa ash-hadu anna Muhammadan ʿAbduhu wa Rasuluh.' Then select the invocation you like best and recite it." (See Hadith No. 794, 795 & 796).

كُنَّا إِذَا كُنَّا مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فِي الصَّلاَةِ قُلْنَا السَّلاَمُ عَلَى اللَّهِ مِنْ عِبَادِهِ السَّلاَمُ عَلَى فُلاَنٍ وَفُلاَنٍ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ لاَ تَقُولُوا السَّلاَمُ عَلَى اللَّهِ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ هُوَ السَّلاَمُ وَلَكِنْ قُولُوا التَّحِيَّاتُ لِلَّهِ وَالصَّلَوَاتُ وَالطَّيِّبَاتُ السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ وَرَحْمَةُ اللَّهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَى عِبَادِ اللَّهِ الصَّالِحِينَ فَإِنَّكُمْ إِذَا قُلْتُمْ أَصَابَ كُلَّ عَبْدٍ فِي السَّمَاءِ أَوْ بَيْنَ السَّمَاءِ وَالأَرْضِ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ ثُمَّ يَتَخَيَّرُ مِنَ الدُّعَاءِ أَعْجَبَهُ إِلَيْهِ فَيَدْعُو

When we prayed with the Prophet ﷺ we used to say: As-Salam be on Allah from His worshipers, As- Salam be on Gabriel, As-Salam be on Michael, As-Salam be on so-and-so. When the Prophet ﷺ finished his prayer, he faced us and said, "Allah Himself is As-Salam (Peace), so when one sits in the prayer, one should say, 'at-Tahiyatu-li l-lahi Was-Salawatu, Wat-Taiyibatu, As-Salamu 'Alaika aiyuhan- Nabiyyu wa Rah-matul-iahi wa Barakatuhu, As-Salamu 'Alaina wa 'ala 'Ibadillahi assalihin, for if he says so, then it will be for all the pious slave of Allah in the Heavens and the Earth. (Then he should say), 'Ash-hadu an la ilaha illalllahu wa ash-hadu anna Muhammadan ʿAbduhu wa rasulu-hu,' and then he can choose whatever speech (i.e. invocation) he wishes " (See Hadith No. 797, Vol. 1).

كُنَّا إِذَا صَلَّيْنَا مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قُلْنَا السَّلاَمُ عَلَى اللَّهِ قَبْلَ عِبَادِهِ السَّلاَمُ عَلَى جِبْرِيلَ السَّلاَمُ عَلَى مِيكَائِيلَ السَّلاَمُ عَلَى فُلاَنٍ فَلَمَّا انْصَرَفَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ أَقْبَلَ عَلَيْنَا بِوَجْهِهِ فَقَالَ إِنَّ اللَّهَ هُوَ السَّلاَمُ فَإِذَا جَلَسَ أَحَدُكُمْ فِي الصَّلاَةِ فَلْيَقُلِ التَّحِيَّاتُ لِلَّهِ وَالصَّلَوَاتُ وَالطَّيِّبَاتُ السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ وَرَحْمَةُ اللَّهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَى عِبَادِ اللَّهِ الصَّالِحِينَ فَإِنَّهُ إِذَا قَالَ ذَلِكَ أَصَابَ كُلَّ عَبْدٍ صَالِحٍ فِي السَّمَاءِ وَالأَرْضِ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ ثُمَّ يَتَخَيَّرْ بَعْدُ مِنَ الْكَلاَمِ مَا شَاءَ

"Before the tashahhud was enjoined, when we prayed we used to say: 'Peace (As-Salam) be upon Allah (SWT), pace be upon Jibril, peace be upon Mika'il.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Do not say this, for indeed Allah (SWT), the Mighty and Sublime, is As-Salam. Rather say: "At-tahiyyatu lillahi wasalawatu wat-tayibaat, as-salamu 'alaika ayah-Nabiyyu wa rahmatAllahi wa baraktuhu. As-salamu 'alaina a 'ala ibad illahis-salihin, ashadu an la ilaha ill Allah, wa ashhadu anna Muhammadan 'abduhu wa rasuluhu. (All compliments, prayers and pure words are due to Allah. Peace be upon you O Prophet, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. Peace be upon us and upon the righteous slaves of Allah. I bear witness that that none has the right to be worshipped except Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and messenger.)"

كُنَّا نَقُولُ فِي الصَّلاَةِ قَبْلَ أَنْ يُفْرَضَ التَّشَهُّدُ السَّلاَمُ عَلَى اللَّهِ السَّلاَمُ عَلَى جِبْرِيلَ وَمِيكَائِيلَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ لاَ تَقُولُوا هَكَذَا فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ ﷻ هُوَ السَّلاَمُ وَلَكِنْ قُولُوا التَّحِيَّاتُ لِلَّهِ وَالصَّلَوَاتُ وَالطَّيِّبَاتُ السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ وَرَحْمَةُ اللَّهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَى عِبَادِ اللَّهِ الصَّالِحِينَ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ

"When we sat during the prayer with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, we used to say: 'Peace (salam) be upon Allah(SWT), peace be upon so-and-so and so-and-so.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Do not say peace (salam) be upon Allah (SWT), for Allah (SWT) is As-Salam (the Source of peace; the One free from all faults). Rather say: At-tahiyyatu lillahi wasalawatu wat-tayibaat, as-salamu 'alaika ayah-Nabiyyu wa rahmatAllahi wa baraktuhu. As-salamu 'alaina a 'ala ibad illahis-salihin (All compliments, prayers and pure words are due to Allah. Peace be upon you O Prophet, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. Peace be upon us and upon the righteous slaves of Allah.) If you say that, it will be for every righteous slave in the heavens and on earth, "ashadu an la ilaha ill Allah, wa ashhadu anna Muhammadan 'abduhu wa rasuluhu (I bear witness that that none has the right to be worshipped except Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and messenger.) Then let him choose any supplication that he likes to say after that.'"

كُنَّا إِذَا جَلَسْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فِي الصَّلاَةِ قُلْنَا السَّلاَمُ عَلَى اللَّهِ مِنْ عِبَادِهِ السَّلاَمُ عَلَى فُلاَنٍ وَفُلاَنٍ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ لاَ تَقُولُوا السَّلاَمُ عَلَى اللَّهِ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ هُوَ السَّلاَمُ وَلَكِنْ إِذَا جَلَسَ أَحَدُكُمْ فَلْيَقُلِ التَّحِيَّاتُ لِلَّهِ وَالصَّلَوَاتُ وَالطَّيِّبَاتُ السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ وَرَحْمَةُ اللَّهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَى عِبَادِ اللَّهِ الصَّالِحِينَ فَإِنَّكُمْ إِذَا قُلْتُمْ ذَلِكَ أَصَابَتْ كُلَّ عَبْدٍ صَالِحٍ فِي السَّمَاءِ وَالأَرْضِ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ ثُمَّ لْيَتَخَيَّرْ مِنَ الدُّعَاءِ بَعْدُ أَعْجَبَهُ إِلَيْهِ يَدْعُو بِهِ

"We used not to know what to say when we prayed, then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ taught us some eloquent and concise words. He said to us: 'Say: "At-tahiyyatu lillahi was-salawatu wat-tayyibat, as-salamu 'alaika ayyuhan-Nabiyyu wa rahmatAllahi wa baraktuhu. As-salamu 'alaina wa 'ala 'ibad illahis-salihin, ashahdu an la illaha ill-Allah wa ashhadu anna Muhammadan 'abduhu wa rasuluhu (Allah compliments, prayers and pure words are due to Allah. Peace be upon you, O Prophet, and the mercy of Allah (SWT) and his blessings. Peace be upon us and upon the righteous slaves of Allah (SWT). I bear witness that none has the right to be worshipped except Allah and I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger)." (One of the narrators) 'Ubaidullah said: "Zaid bin Hammad said, narrating from Ibrahim, that 'Alqamah said: 'I saw Ibn Mas'ud teaching us these words just as he taught us the Quran."

كُنَّا لاَ نَدْرِي مَا نَقُولُ إِذَا صَلَّيْنَا فَعَلَّمَنَا نَبِيُّ اللَّهِ ﷺ جَوَامِعَ الْكَلِمِ فَقَالَ لَنَا قُولُوا التَّحِيَّاتُ لِلَّهِ وَالصَّلَوَاتُ وَالطَّيِّبَاتُ السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ وَرَحْمَةُ اللَّهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَى عِبَادِ اللَّهِ الصَّالِحِينَ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ قَالَ عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ قَالَ زَيْدٌ عَنْ حَمَّادٍ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ عَلْقَمَةَ قَالَ لَقَدْ رَأَيْتُ ابْنَ مَسْعُودٍ يُعَلِّمُنَا هَؤُلاَءِ الْكَلِمَاتِ كَمَا يُعَلِّمُنَا الْقُرْآنَ

"We used to pray with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and we would say: "Peace (As-Salam) be upon Allah (SWT), peace be upon Jibril, peace be upon Mika'il.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Do not say "Peace (As-Salam) be upon Allah, for Allah is As-Salam." Rather say: "At-tahiyyatu lillahi was-salawatu wat-tayyibat, as-salamu 'alaika ayyuhan-Nabiyyu wa rahmatAllahi wa baraktuhu. As-salamu 'alaina wa 'ala 'ibad illahis-salihin, ashahdu an la illaha ill-Allah wa ashhadu anna Muhammadan 'abduhu wa rasuluhu (Allah compliments, prayers and pure words are due to Allah. Peace be upon you, O Prophet, and the mercy of Allah (SWT) and his blessings. Peace be upon us and upon the righteous slaves of Allah (SWT). I bear witness that none has the right to be worshipped except Allah and I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger)."

كُنَّا نُصَلِّي مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَنَقُولُ السَّلاَمُ عَلَى اللَّهِ السَّلاَمُ عَلَى جِبْرِيلَ السَّلاَمُ عَلَى مِيكَائِيلَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ لاَ تَقُولُوا السَّلاَمُ عَلَى اللَّهِ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ هُوَ السَّلاَمُ وَلَكِنْ قُولُوا التَّحِيَّاتُ لِلَّهِ وَالصَّلَوَاتُ وَالطَّيِّبَاتُ السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ وَرَحْمَةُ اللَّهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَى عِبَادِ اللَّهِ الصَّالِحِينَ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ

when we (prayed and) sat up during prayer along the Messenger of Allah (may peach be upon him), we said: “Peace be to Allah before it is supplicated for His servants; peace be to so and so. “The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Do not say “Peace be to Allah ,”for Allah Himself is peace. When one of you sits(during the prayer), he should say: The adoration of the tongue are due to Allah, and acts of worship and all good things. Peace be upon you, O Prophet, and Allah’s mercy and His blessings. Peace be upon us and upon Allah’s upright servants. When you say that, it reaches every upright servant in heavens and earth or between heavens and earth. I testify that there is no god but Allah, and I testify that Muhammad is His servant and apostle. Then he may choose any supplication which pleases him and offer it.

كُنَّا إِذَا جَلَسْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فِي الصَّلاَةِ قُلْنَا السَّلاَمُ عَلَى اللَّهِ قَبْلَ عِبَادِهِ السَّلاَمُ عَلَى فُلاَنٍ وَفُلاَنٍ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ لاَ تَقُولُوا السَّلاَمُ عَلَى اللَّهِ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ هُوَ السَّلاَمُ وَلَكِنْ إِذَا جَلَسَ أَحَدُكُمْ فَلْيَقُلِ التَّحِيَّاتُ لِلَّهِ وَالصَّلَوَاتُ وَالطَّيِّبَاتُ السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ وَرَحْمَةُ اللَّهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَى عِبَادِ اللَّهِ الصَّالِحِينَ فَإِنَّكُمْ إِذَا قُلْتُمْ ذَلِكَ أَصَابَ كُلَّ عَبْدٍ صَالِحٍ فِي السَّمَاءِ وَالأَرْضِ أَوْ بَيْنَ السَّمَاءِ وَالأَرْضِ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ ثُمَّ لْيَتَخَيَّرْ أَحَدُكُمْ مِنَ الدُّعَاءِ أَعْجَبَهُ إِلَيْهِ فَيَدْعُو بِهِ

“When we performed prayer with the Prophet ﷺ we said: ‘Peace be upon Allah from His slaves, peace be upon Jibra’il and Mika’il and so-and-so and so-and- so.’ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ heard us and said: ‘Do not say peace (Salam) be upon Allah, for He is As-Salam. When you sit (during prayer) say: At-Tahiyyatu lillahi was-salawatu wat-tayyibatu; as- salamu ‘alayka ayyuhan-Nabiyyu wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu; as- salamu ‘alayna wa ‘ala ‘ibadillahis-salihin (All compliments, prayers and good words are due to Allah; peace be upon you, O Prophet, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings; peace be upon us and upon the righteous slaves of Allah).” For as you say that it will reach every righteous slave in the heavens and on earth. (Then say:) “Ashhadu an la ilaha illallah wa ashhadu anna Muhammadan ‘abduhu wa Rasuluhu (I bear witness that none has the right to be worshipped but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger).” (Another chain) with similar wording. (Another chain) that ʿAbdullah bin Masʿud said: "The Prophet ﷺ used to teach us the Tashahhud." And he mentioned similarly.

كُنَّا إِذَا صَلَّيْنَا مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قُلْنَا السَّلاَمُ عَلَى اللَّهِ قَبْلَ عِبَادِهِ السَّلاَمُ عَلَى جِبْرَائِيلَ وَمِيكَائِيلَ وَعَلَى فُلاَنٍ وَفُلاَنٍ يَعْنُونَ الْمَلاَئِكَةَ فَسَمِعَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ لاَ تَقُولُوا السَّلاَمُ عَلَى اللَّهِ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ هُوَ السَّلاَمُ فَإِذَا جَلَسْتُمْ فَقُولُوا التَّحِيَّاتُ لِلَّهِ وَالصَّلَوَاتُ وَالطَّيِّبَاتُ السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ وَرَحْمَةُ اللَّهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَى عِبَادِ اللَّهِ الصَّالِحِينَ فَإِنَّهُ إِذَا قَالَ ذَلِكَ أَصَابَتْ كُلَّ عَبْدٍ صَالِحٍ فِي السَّمَاءِ وَالأَرْضِ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ أَنْبَأَنَا الثَّوْرِيُّ عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ وَالأَعْمَشِ وَحُصَيْنٍ وَأَبِي هَاشِمٍ وَحَمَّادٍ عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ وَعَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ عَنِ الأَسْوَدِ وَأَبِي الأَحْوَصِ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ نَحْوَهُ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مَعْمَرٍ حَدَّثَنَا قَبِيصَةُ أَنْبَأَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنِ الأَعْمَشِ وَمَنْصُورٍ وَحُصَيْنٍ عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ ح قَالَ وَحَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ أَبِي عُبَيْدَةَ وَالأَسْوَدِ وَأَبِي الأَحْوَصِ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ كَانَ يُعَلِّمُهُمُ التَّشَهُّدَ فَذَكَرَ نَحْوَهُ

[Machine] Narrated to me about the tashahhud of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ in the middle and at the end of the prayer, Abdullah bin Mas'ood said: "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ taught me the tashahhud in the middle and at the end of the prayer, and we used to memorize it from Abdullah when he informed us that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ taught it to him." He said: "So he used to say when he sat in the middle and at the end of the prayer, leaning on his left leg: 'Greetings, prayers and good deeds are for Allah. Peace be upon you, O Prophet, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. Peace be upon us and upon the righteous servants of Allah. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.' Then if he was in the middle of the prayer, he would rise when he finished the tashahhud. And if he was at the end of the prayer, he would supplicate whatever Allah willed, and then he would say the salaam."

حَدَّثَنِي عَنْ تَشَهُّدِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فِي وَسَطِ الصَّلَاةِ وَفِي آخِرِهَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ الْأَسْوَدِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ النَّخَعِيُّ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ قَالَ عَلَّمَنِي رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ التَّشَهُّدَ فِي وَسَطِ الصَّلَاةِ وَفِي آخِرِهَا فَكُنَّا نَحْفَظُ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ حِينَ أَخْبَرَنَا أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ عَلَّمَهُ إِيَّاهُ قَالَ فَكَانَ يَقُولُ إِذَا جَلَسَ فِي وَسَطِ الصَّلَاةِ وَفِي آخِرِهَا عَلَى وَرِكِهِ الْيُسْرَى التَّحِيَّاتُ لِلَّهِ وَالصَّلَوَاتُ وَالطَّيِّبَاتُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَى عِبَادِ اللهِ الصَّالِحِينَ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ قَالَ ثُمَّ إِنْ كَانَ فِي وَسَطِ الصَّلَاةِ نَهَضَ حِينَ يَفْرُغُ مِنْ تَشَهُّدِهِ وَإِنْ كَانَ فِي آخِرِهَا دَعَا بَعْدَ تَشَهُّدِهِ مَا شَاءَ اللهُ أَنْ يَدْعُوَ ثُمَّ يُسَلِّمَ

when we (prayed and) sat up during prayer along the Messenger of Allah (may peach be upon him), we said: “Peace be to Allah before it is supplicated for His servants; peace be to so and so. “The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Do not say “Peace be to Allah ,”for Allah Himself is peace. When one of you sits(during the prayer), he should say: The adoration of the tongue are due to Allah, and acts of worship and all good things. Peace be upon you, O Prophet, and Allah’s mercy and His blessings. Peace be upon us and upon Allah’s upright servants. When you say that, it reaches every upright servant in heavens and earth or between heavens and earth. I testify that there is no god but Allah, and I testify that Muhammad is His servant and apostle. Then he may choose any supplication which pleases him and offer it. [Machine] "We used to not know what we are saying in prayer. We used to say 'Peace be upon Allah, peace be upon Gabriel, peace be upon Michael.' The Prophet ﷺ taught us and said, 'Indeed, Allah is the Peace. So when you sit in tashahhud, say the greetings to Allah, the prayers, and the good words. Peace be upon you, O Prophet, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. Peace be upon us and upon the righteous servants of Allah.' Abu Wa'il said in his narration from Abdullah, who narrated from the Prophet ﷺ, 'When you say it, every righteous servant in the heavens and the earth is affected.' Abu Ishaq also said in his narration from Abdullah, who narrated from the Prophet ﷺ, 'When you say it, it reaches every near angel, or sent prophet, or righteous servant. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger.'"

كُنَّا إِذَا صَلَّيْنَا خَلْفَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ قُلْنَا السَّلَامُ عَلَى اللَّهِ قَبْلَ عِبَادِهِ السَّلَامُ عَلَى جِبْرِيلَ السَّلَامُ عَلَى مِيكَائِيلَ السَّلَامُ عَلَى إِسْرَافِيلَ السَّلَامُ عَلَى فُلَانٍ وَفُلَانٍ قَالَ فَأَقْبَلَ عَلَيْنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ إِنَّ اللَّهَ تَعَالَى هُوَ السَّلَامُ فَإِذَا جَلَسْتُمْ فِي الصَّلَاةِ فَقُولُوا التَّحِيَّاتُ لِلَّهِ وَالصَّلَوَاتُ وَالطَّيِّبَاتُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ وَرَحْمَةُ اللَّهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَى عِبَادِ اللَّهِ الصَّالِحِينَ فَإِنَّكُمْ إِذَا قُلْتُمُوهَا أَصَابَتْ كُلَّ عَبْدٍ صَالِحٍ فِي السَّمَاءِ وَالْأَرْضِ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ ثُمَّ لِيَتَخَيَّرْ مَا شَاءَ

[Machine] Abdullah ibn Salama Al-Qa'nabi reported that Abd al-Aziz ibn Muhammad narrated from Hisham ibn Uruwah, from his father, that Umar ibn al-Khattab used to teach the people how to recite the Tashahhud in prayer while delivering a sermon on the pulpit of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . He would say, "When one of you recites Tashahhud in prayer, let them say: 'In the name of Allah, the most beneficial, the most merciful. All pure prayers, good greetings and pure acts of worship to Allah. Peace be upon you, O Prophet, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. Peace be upon us and upon the righteous slaves of Allah. I bear witness that there is no God but Allah alone, without any partners, and that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger.' Umar said, 'Begin with yourselves after the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , and send peace upon the righteous slaves of Allah.'"

ثنا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ الْقَعْنَبِيُّ ثنا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ أَنَّ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ كَانَ يُعَلِّمُ النَّاسَ التَّشَهُّدَ فِي الصَّلَاةِ وَهُوَ يَخْطُبُ النَّاسَ عَلَى مِنْبَرِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَيَقُولُ إِذَا تَشَهَّدَ أَحَدُكُمْ فَلْيَقُلْ بِسْمِ اللَّهِ خَيْرِ الْأَسْمَاءِ التَّحِيَّاتُ الزَّاكِيَاتُ الصَّلَوَاتُ الطَّيِّبَاتُ لِلَّهِ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ وَرَحْمَةُ اللَّهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَى عَبَّادِ اللَّهِ الصَّالِحِينَ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ وَأَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ قَالَ عُمَرُ «ابْدَءُوا بِأَنْفُسِكُمْ بَعْدَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَسَلِّمُوا عَلَى عَبَّادِ اللَّهِ الصَّالِحِينَ»

كُنَّا إِذَا جَلَسْنَا خَلْفَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فِي الصَّلَاةِ نَقُولُ السَّلَامُ عَلَى اللَّهِ السَّلَامُ عَلَى جِبْرِيلَ السَّلَامُ عَلَى مِيكَائِيلَ السَّلَامُ عَلَى فُلَانٍ السَّلَامُ عَلَى فُلَانٍ فَالْتَفَتَ إِلَيْنَا النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَقَالَ «إِنَّ اللَّهَ هُوَ السَّلَامُ فَقُولُوا التَّحِيَّاتُ لِلَّهِ وَالصَّلَوَاتُ وَالطَّيِّبَاتُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ وَرَحْمَةُ اللَّهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَى عِبَادِ اللَّهِ الصَّالِحِينَ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ فَإِنَّكُمْ إِذَا فَعَلْتُمْ ذَلِكَ فَقَدْ سَلَّمْتُمْ عَلَى كُلِّ عَبْدٍ صَالِحٍ فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ»

[Machine] We did not know what to say in prayer, so we used to say "Peace be upon Gabriel, peace be upon Michael." Then the Prophet ﷺ taught us and said, "Verily, Allah is As-Salam (the Peace). So when you sit for the two prostrations, say: 'All compliments, prayers, and good words are due to Allah. Peace be upon you, O Prophet, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. Peace be upon us and upon the righteous servants of Allah.' Abu Wail said in his narration that Abdullah said: "When I said it, every close angel, sent prophet, and righteous servant was covered." I bear witness that there is no deity except Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger."

كُنَّا لَا نَدْرِي مَا نَقُولُ فِي الصَّلَاةِ نَقُولُ السَّلَامُ عَلَى جِبْرِيلَ السَّلَامُ عَلَى مِيكَائِيلَ فَعَلَّمَنَا النَّبِيُّ ﷺ وَقَالَ «إِنَّ اللَّهَ هُوَ السَّلَامُ فَإِذَا جَلَسْتُمْ فِي الرَّكْعَتَيْنِ فَقُولُوا التَّحِيَّاتُ لِلَّهِ وَالصَّلَوَاتُ وَالطَّيِّبَاتُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ وَرَحْمَةُ اللَّهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَى عِبَادِ اللَّهِ الصَّالِحِينَ قَالَ أَبُو وَائِلٍ فِي حَدِيثِهِ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ إِذَا قُلْتُهَا أَصَابَتْ كُلَّ مَلَكٍ مُقَرَّبٍ وَنَبِيٍّ مُرْسَلٍ وَعَبْدٍ صَالِحٍ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ»

when we (prayed and) sat up during prayer along the Messenger of Allah (may peach be upon him), we said: “Peace be to Allah before it is supplicated for His servants; peace be to so and so. “The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Do not say “Peace be to Allah ,”for Allah Himself is peace. When one of you sits(during the prayer), he should say: The adoration of the tongue are due to Allah, and acts of worship and all good things. Peace be upon you, O Prophet, and Allah’s mercy and His blessings. Peace be upon us and upon Allah’s upright servants. When you say that, it reaches every upright servant in heavens and earth or between heavens and earth. I testify that there is no god but Allah, and I testify that Muhammad is His servant and apostle. Then he may choose any supplication which pleases him and offer it. [Machine] "We used to not know what to say in prayer until the Prophet ﷺ taught us to say, 'Peace be upon Allah, peace be upon Jibril, peace be upon Mika'il.' Then he taught us to say, 'The greetings are for Allah, and the prayers and good deeds. Peace be upon you, O Prophet, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. Peace be upon us and upon the righteous servants of Allah.' Abu Wail reported in his hadith from Abdullah that the Prophet ﷺ said, 'When you say it, it reaches every righteous servant in the heavens and on the earth.' And Abu Ishaq reported in his hadith from Abdullah that the Prophet ﷺ said, 'When you say it, it reaches every near and distant servant, prophetic messenger, or righteous servant. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and messenger.'"

كُنَّا لَا نَدْرِي مَا نَقُولُ فِي الصَّلَاةِ نَقُولُ السَّلَامُ عَلَى اللَّهِ السَّلَامُ عَلَى جِبْرِيلَ السَّلَامُ عَلَى مِيكَائِيلَ فَعَلَّمَنَا النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَقَالَ «إِنَّ اللَّهَ هُوَ السَّلَامُ فَإِذَا جَلَسْتُمْ فِي رَكْعَتَيْنِ فَقُولُوا التَّحِيَّاتُ لِلَّهِ وَالصَّلَوَاتُ وَالطَّيِّبَاتُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ وَرَحْمَةُ اللَّهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَى عِبَادِ اللَّهِ الصَّالِحِينَ قَالَ أَبُو وَائِلٍ فِي حَدِيثِهِ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ إِذَا قُلْتَهَا أَصَابَتْ كُلَّ عَبْدٍ صَالِحٍ فِي السَّمَاءِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَقَالَ أَبُو إِسْحَاقَ فِي حَدِيثِهِ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ إِذَا قُلْتَهَا أَصَابَتْ كُلَّ عَبْدٍ مُقَرَّبٍ وَنَبِيٍّ مُرْسَلٍ أَوْ عَبْدٍ صَالِحٍ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ»

[Machine] When we sat in prayer, we said, "Peace be upon Allah, peace be upon us from our Lord, peace be upon Gabriel and Michael, peace be upon so and so." Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Indeed, Allah is As-Salam (the Source of Peace). So when you sit in prayer, say greetings to Allah, prayers, and good things. Peace be upon you, O Prophet, the mercy of Allah, and His blessings. Peace be upon us and upon the righteous servants of Allah." When he says that, every righteous servant in the heavens or on the earth is affected by it. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger, and then he chooses from speech what he wishes.

كُنَّا إِذَا قَعَدْنَا فِي الصَّلَاةِ قُلْنَا السَّلَامُ عَلَى اللهِ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْنَا مِنْ رَبِّنَا السَّلَامُ عَلَى جِبْرِيلَ وَمِيكَائِيلَ السَّلَامُ عَلَى فُلَانٍ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِنَّ اللهَ هُوَ السَّلَامُ إِذَا قَعَدْتُمْ فِي الصَّلَاةِ فَقُولُوا التَّحِيَّاتُ لِلَّهِ وَالصَّلَوَاتُ وَالطَّيِّبَاتُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَى عِبَادِ اللهِ الصَّالِحِينَ فَإِذَا قَالَ ذَلِكَ أَصَابَتْ كُلَّ عَبْدٍ صَالِحٍ فِي السَّمَاءِ أَوَ فِي الْأَرْضِ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ ثُمَّ يَتَخَيَّرُ مِنَ الْكَلَامِ مَا شَاءَ

[Machine] From Hammad, Mansour, Husayn, Al-A'mash, and Abu Hashim, from Abu Wael and Abu Ishaq, from Al-Aswad and Abu Al-Ahwas, from Abdullah, who said: "We did not know what to say in the prayer, so we would say, 'Peace be upon Allah, peace be upon Jibril, peace be upon Mika'il.' But the Messenger of Allah ﷺ taught us the Tashahhud, so he said: 'Indeed, Allah is As-Salam. So, when you sit for two units, say greetings to Allah, prayers, and good things. Peace be upon you, O Prophet, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. Peace be upon us and upon the righteous servants of Allah.' Abu Wael said, regarding the hadith of Abdullah from the Prophet ﷺ : 'When you say it, it reaches every righteous servant in the heavens and the earth.' Abu Ishaq said, in the hadith of Abdullah: 'When you say it, it reaches every close angel, messenger prophet, or righteous servant.' I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger."

عَنْ حَمَّادٍ وَمَنْصُورٍ وَحُصَيْنٍ وَالْأَعْمَشِ وَأَبِي هَاشِمٍ عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ وَأَبِي إِسْحَاقَ عنِ الْأَسْوَدِ وَأَبِي الْأَحْوَصِ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ قَالَ كُنَّا لَا نَدْرِي مَا نَقُولُ فِي الصَّلَاةِ نَقُولُ السَّلَامُ عَلَى اللهِ السَّلَامُ عَلَى جِبْرِيلَ السَّلَامُ عَلَى مِيكَائِيلَ فَعَلَّمَنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ التَّشَهُّدَ فَقَالَ إِنَّ اللهَ هُوَ السَّلَامُ فَإِذَا جَلَسْتُمْ فِي رَكْعَتَيْنِ فَقُولُوا التَّحِيَّاتُ لِلَّهِ وَالصَّلَوَاتُ وَالطَّيِّبَاتُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَى عِبَادِ اللهِ الصَّالِحِينَ قَالَ أَبُو وَائِلٍ فِي حَدِيثِ عَبْدِ اللهِ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ إِذَا قُلْتَهَا أَصَابَتْ كُلَّ عَبْدٍ صَالِحٍ فِي السَّمَاءِ وَالْأَرْضِ قَالَ أَبُو إِسْحَاقَ فِي حَدِيثِ عَبْدِ اللهِ إِذَا قُلْتَهَا أَصَابَتْ كُلَّ مَلَكٍ مُقَرَّبٍ أَوَ نَبِيٍّ مُرْسَلٍ أَوَ عَبْدٍ صَالِحٍ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ

[Machine] We used to say in prayer, "Peace be upon Allah, peace be upon Gabriel and Michael, and every angel whose name we know." Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Do not say, 'Peace be upon Allah,' for Allah is Peace." He then taught us, "Greetings to Allah, prayers, and good deeds. Peace be upon you, O Prophet, the mercy of Allah and His blessings. Peace be upon us and upon the righteous servants of Allah. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger. So when you say this, you have encompassed every angel, every prophet, and every righteous servant in your words."

كُنَّا نَقُولُ فِي الصَّلَاةِ السَّلَامُ عَلَى اللهِ السَّلَامُ عَلَى جِبْرِيلَ وَمِيكَائِيلَ وَكُلِّ مَلَكٍ نَعْلَمُ اسْمَهُ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «لَا تَقُولُوا السَّلَامُ عَلَى اللهِ؛ فَإِنَّ اللهَ هُوَ السَّلَامُ» ثُمَّ عَلَّمَنَا «التَّحِيَّاتُ لِلَّهِ وَالصَّلَوَاتُ وَالطَّيِّبَاتُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَى عِبَادِ اللهِ الصَّالِحِينَ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ فَإِذَا قُلْتُمْ هَذَا فَقَدْ دَخَلَ فِي قَوْلِكُمْ كُلُّ مَلَكٍ وَكُلُّ نَبِيٍّ وَكُلُّ عَبْدٍ صَالِحٍ»

[Machine] We used to say in the prayer: "Peace be upon so-and-so, peace be upon so-and-so." And we would name those whom we knew from among the angels and prophets. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to us, "Indeed, Allah is As-Salam (the Source of Peace)." Then he taught us the Tashahhud, and we would learn it just as one of us would learn a Surah from the Quran. He said: "Say: Greetings, prayers, and pure words are for Allah. Peace be upon you, O Prophet, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. Peace be upon us and upon the righteous servants of Allah. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger."

كُنَّا نَقُولُ فِي الصَّلَاةِ السَّلَامُ عَلَى فُلَانٍ السَّلَامُ عَلَى فُلَانٍ فَنُسَمِّي مَنْ عَلِمْنَا مِنْ عِلْمِنَا مِنَ الْمَلَائِكَةِ وَالْأَنْبِيَاءِ فَقَالَ لَنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «إِنَّ اللهَ هُوَ السَّلَامُ» ثُمَّ عَلَّمَنَا التَّشَهُّدَ فَكُنَّا نَتَعَلَّمُهُ كَمَا يَتَعَلَّمُ أَحَدٌ مِنَّا السُّورَةَ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ قَالَ قُولُوا التَّحِيَّاتُ لِلَّهِ وَالصَّلَوَاتُ وَالطَّيِّبَاتُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَى عِبَادِ اللهِ الصَّالِحِينَ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ

[Machine] We used to pray with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , and the people would say, "Peace be upon Allah, peace be upon Jibril (Gabriel), peace be upon Mikail (Michael), peace be upon the near angels." So the Prophet ﷺ said, "Do not say 'peace be upon Allah', for indeed Allah is As-Salam (the source of peace)." He taught them the Tashahhud and said, "Say: Greetings, prayers, and good deeds. Peace be upon you, O Prophet, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. Peace be upon us and upon the righteous servants of Allah. I bear witness that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger."

كُنَّا نُصَلِّي مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَكَانَ النَّاسُ يَقُولُونَ السَّلَامُ عَلَى اللهِ السَّلَامُ عَلَى جَبْرَائِيلَ السَّلَامُ عَلَى مِيكَائِيلَ السَّلَامُ عَلَى الْمَلَائِكَةِ الْمُقَرَّبِينَ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ «لَا تَقُولُوا السَّلَامُ عَلَى اللهِ؛ إِنَّ اللهَ هُوَ السَّلَامُ» قَالَ فَعَلَّمَهُمُ التَّشَهُّدَ فَقَالَ قُولُوا التَّحِيَّاتُ لِلَّهِ وَالصَّلَوَاتُ وَالطَّيِّبَاتُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَى عِبَادِ اللهِ الصَّالِحِينَ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ

[Machine] About Mansour, Suleiman, Hammad, Abu Hashim, and Mugheera, from Abu Wael, from Abdullah who said:

"We used to say in our prayers: 'Peace be upon Allah, peace be upon Gabriel.' Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to us, 'Indeed, Allah is As-Salam (the Source of Peace), but you should say: Greetings belong to Allah, prayers and good deeds. Peace be upon you, O Prophet, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. Peace be upon us and upon the righteous servants of Allah. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and His Messenger.'"

عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ وَسُلَيْمَانَ وَحَمَّادٍ وَأَبِي هَاشِمٍ وَمُغِيرَةَ عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ قَالَ كُنَّا نَقُولُ فِي الصَّلَاةِ السَّلَامُ عَلَى اللهِ السَّلَامُ عَلَى جِبْرِيلَ فَقَالَ لَنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِنَّ اللهَ هُوَ السَّلَامُ وَلَكِنْ قُولُوا التَّحِيَّاتُ لِلَّهِ وَالصَّلَوَاتُ وَالطَّيِّبَاتُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَى عِبَادِ اللهِ الصَّالِحِينَ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ

[Machine] When we sat down, we said peace be upon Allah, peace be upon Gabriel, peace be upon Michael, peace be upon the angels. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ taught us some words. When we say them, we send peace upon every angel in the sky and every righteous servant on earth. "Greetings and prayers and good deeds be upon you, O Prophet, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. Peace be upon us and upon the righteous servants of Allah. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger."

كُنَّا نَتَشَهَّدُ فِي الصَّلَاةِ فَنَقُولُ السَّلَامُ عَلَى اللهِ قَبْلَ عِبَادِهِ السَّلَامُ عَلَى جِبْرِيلَ السَّلَامُ عَلَى مِيكَائِيلَ نُعَدِّدُ الْمَلَائِكَةَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِنَّ اللهَ هُوَ السَّلَامُ فَإِذَا جَلَسَ أَحَدُكُمْ فِي الصَّلَاةِ فَلْيَقُلِ التَّحِيَّاتُ لِلَّهِ وَالصَّلَوَاتُ وَالطَّيِّبَاتُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَى عِبَادِ اللهِ الصَّالِحِينَ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ فَإِنَّهُ إِذَا قَالَ أَحَدُكُمُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَى عِبَادِ اللهِ الصَّالِحِينَ أَصَابَتْ كُلَّ عَبْدٍ صَالِحٍ فِي السَّمَاءِ وَالْأَرْضِ

when we (prayed and) sat up during prayer along the Messenger of Allah (may peach be upon him), we said: “Peace be to Allah before it is supplicated for His servants; peace be to so and so. “The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Do not say “Peace be to Allah ,”for Allah Himself is peace. When one of you sits(during the prayer), he should say: The adoration of the tongue are due to Allah, and acts of worship and all good things. Peace be upon you, O Prophet, and Allah’s mercy and His blessings. Peace be upon us and upon Allah’s upright servants. When you say that, it reaches every upright servant in heavens and earth or between heavens and earth. I testify that there is no god but Allah, and I testify that Muhammad is His servant and apostle. Then he may choose any supplication which pleases him and offer it. "When we prayed with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, we used to say: "Peace (As-Salam) be upon Allah (SWT), peace be upon Jibril, peace be upon Mika'il.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Do not say "Peace (As-Salam) be upon Allah, for Allah is As-Salam." Rather say: "At-tahiyyatu lillahi was-salawatu wat-tayyibat, as-salamu 'alaika ayyuhan-Nabiyyu wa rahmatAllahi wa baraktuhu. As-salamu 'alaina wa 'ala 'ibad illahis-salihin, ashahdu an la illaha ill-Allah wa ashhadu anna Muhammadan 'abduhu wa rasuluhu (Allah compliments, prayers and pure words are due to Allah. Peace be upon you, O Prophet, and the mercy of Allah (SWT) and his blessings. Peace be upon us and upon the righteous slaves of Allah (SWT). I bear witness that none has the right to be worshipped except Allah and I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger)." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 1168)

We used to pray behind the Prophet ﷺ and used to say: "As-Salamu 'Al-Allah. The Prophet ﷺ said, "Allah himself is As-Salam (Name of Allah), so you should say: 'at-Tahiyatu lil-lahi was-sala-watu wattaiyibatu, as-salamu ʿalaika aiyyuha-n-nabiyyu wa rahmatu-l-lahi wa barakatuhu, as-salamu ʿalaina wa ʿala ʿibadi-l-lahi as-salihin. Ashhadu an la ilaha il-lallah, wa ash-hadu anna Muhammadan ʿabduhu wa rasuluhu."' (Using translation from Bukhārī 7381)

[Machine] "From the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , regarding the Tashahhud: the greetings are for Allah, and the prayers and good deeds. Peace be upon you, O Prophet, and the mercy of Allah. Ibn Umar said: 'I added to it: peace be upon us and upon the righteous servants of Allah. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah.' Ibn Umar said: 'I added to it alone, with no partner. And I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger.' This is a narration of Abu Dawud, reported by Ibn Abi Adiyah from Shu'bah, except that he attributed it to the life of the Prophet, ﷺ . He said: 'We used to say it during his lifetime, but when he died, we said: peace be upon the Prophet and the mercy of Allah.' And Muhammad ibn Isma'il al-Bukhari said that the narration of Saif from Mujahid, from Abu Ma'mar, from Abdullah ibn Mas'ood, is preserved without the narration of Abu Bishr. And Allah knows best. It is also narrated from Abdullah ibn Babyy, from Ibn Umar, from the Prophet, ﷺ , with similar wording, except that he ended his statement with 'for Allah' and added to the original."

[Machine] That Umar ibn Al-Khattab used to teach people the Tashahhud (testimonial prayer) during the prayer while delivering a sermon on the pulpit of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . He would say, "When one of you says the Tashahhud, let him say: 'In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Peace be upon you, O Prophet, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. Peace be upon us and upon the righteous servants of Allah. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, alone, without partner, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger.' Umar said, 'Begin with yourselves after the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and send peace upon the righteous servants of Allah.'"

أَنَّ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ ؓ كَانَ يُعَلِّمُ النَّاسَ التَّشَهُّدَ فِي الصَّلَاةِ وَهُوَ يَخْطُبُ النَّاسَ عَلَى مِنْبَرِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَيَقُولُ إِذَا تَشَهَّدَ أَحَدُكُمْ فَلْيَقُلْ بِسْمِ اللهِ خَيْرِ الْأَسْمَاءِ التَّحِيَّاتُ الزَّاكِيَّاتُ الصَّلَوَاتُ الطَّيِّبَاتُ لِلَّهِ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَى عِبَادِ اللهِ الصَّالِحِينَ أَشْهَدُ أَنَّ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ وَأَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ قَالَ عُمَرُ ؓ ابْدَءُوا بِأَنْفُسِكُمْ بَعْدَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَسَلِّمُوا عَلَى عِبَادِ اللهِ الصَّالِحِينَ

[Machine] That Abdullah bin Umar used to send greetings and say: "In the name of Allah, the greetings are to Allah, the prayers and the good deeds are to Allah. Peace be upon you, O Prophet, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. Peace be upon us and upon the righteous servants of Allah. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah and I bear witness that Muhammad is the messenger of Allah." He used to say this in the first two units of prayer and supplicate after completing his greetings in accordance with what is apparent to him. When he sat in his final prayer, he would also make the same greetings, except that he would precede the greetings and then supplicate in accordance with what is apparent to him. When he completed his greetings and wanted to conclude his prayer, he said, "Peace be upon the Prophet, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. Peace be upon us and upon the righteous servants of Allah. Peace be upon you." He said this on his right side, and then he would turn to the imam. If someone greets him from his left side, he responds to him.

أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ عُمَرَ كَانَ يَتَشَهَّدُ فَيَقُولُ بِسْمِ اللهِ التَّحِيَّاتُ لِلَّهِ وَالصَّلَوَاتُ الزَّاكِيَّاتُ لِلَّهِ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَى عِبَادِ اللهِ الصَّالِحِينَ شَهِدْتُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ وَشَهِدْتُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا رَسُولُ اللهِ يَقُولُ هَذَا فِي الرَّكْعَتَيْنِ الْأُولَيَيْنِ وَيَدْعُو إِذَا قَضَى تَشَهُّدَهُ بِمَا بَدَا لَهُ فَإِذَا جَلَسَ فِي آخِرِ صَلَاتِهِ تَشَهَّدَ كَذَلِكَ أَيْضًا إِلَّا أَنَّهُ يُقَدِّمَ التَّشَهُّدَ ثُمَّ يَدْعُو بِمَا بَدَا لَهُ فَإِذَا قَضَى تَشَهُّدَهُ وَأَرَادَ أَنْ يُسَلِّمَ قَالَ السَّلَامُ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَى عِبَادِ اللهِ الصَّالِحِينَ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُمْ عَلَى يَمِينِهِ ثُمَّ يَرُدُّ عَلَى الْإِمَامِ فَإِنْ سَلَّمَ عَلَيْهِ أَحَدٌ عَنْ يَسَارِهِ رَدَّ عَلَيْهِ

[Machine] And Abu Abdullah, Abu Zakaria, and Abu Bakr informed us that Abu al-Abbas narrated to us, and Bahur bin Nasr said, "I recited to Ibn Wahb what Malik bin Anas, Yunus bin Yazid, and Amr bin al-Harith informed me about Ibn Shihab. They said that Urwah bin Zubair and Abdul Rahman bin Abd al-Qari narrated to them that they heard Umar bin al-Khattab teaching the people the tashahhud on the pulpit. He would say, 'Say: Greetings belong to Allah, pure and good deeds belong to Allah, prayers belong to Allah, peace be upon you, O Prophet, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. Peace be upon us and upon the righteous servants of Allah. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and messenger.'" This is the wording of Ibn Wahb's narration. And in the narration of Shafi'i, may Allah have mercy on him, Umar bin al-Khattab was heard saying on the pulpit while teaching the people the tashahhud, "And pure and good deeds belong to Allah, and the rest is the same."

وَأَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ وَأَبُو زَكَرِيَّا وَأَبُو بَكْرٍ قَالُوا أنبأ أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ ثنا بَحْرُ بْنُ نَصْرٍ قَالَ قُرِئَ عَلَى ابْنِ وَهْبٍ أَخْبَرَكَ مَالِكُ بْنُ أَنَسٍ وَيُونُسُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ وَعَمْرُو بْنُ الْحَارِثِ أَنَّ ابْنَ شِهَابٍ حَدَّثَهُمْ عَنْ عُرْوَةَ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ وَعَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَبْدٍ الْقَارِيِّ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ ؓ يُعَلِّمُ النَّاسَ التَّشَهُّدِ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ فَيَقُولُ قُولُوا التَّحِيَّاتُ لِلَّهِ الزَّاكِيَّاتُ لِلَّهِ الطَّيِّبَاتُ لِلَّهِ الصَّلَوَاتُ لِلَّهِ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَى عِبَادِ اللهِ الصَّالِحِينَ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ لَفْظُ حَدِيثِ ابْنِ وَهْبٍ وَفِي حَدِيثِ الشَّافِعِيِّ رَحِمَهُ اللهُ سَمِعَ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ يَقُولُ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ وَهُوَ يُعَلِّمُ النَّاسَ التَّشَهُّدَ وَقَالَ الطَّيِّبَاتُ الصَّلَوَاتُ لِلَّهِ وَالْبَاقِي سَوَاءٌ

[Machine] When we used to sit between the two prostrations during prayer, we did not know what to say except to praise and glorify Allah, and mention His name. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ taught us comprehensive and concise supplications. He came to us with a smile on his face and said, "When you sit between the two prostrations, say, 'Greetings, prayers, and good things are for Allah. Peace be upon you, O Prophet, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. Peace be upon us and upon the righteous servants of Allah. I bear witness that there is no god except Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger.' Abdullah (bin Mas'ud) said, 'When he says, 'Peace be upon us and upon the righteous servants of Allah,' every righteous servant or sent Prophet is blessed, and then he starts by praising Allah in the manner befitting Him, and by sending blessings upon the Prophet ﷺ . Then he may make other supplications."

كُنَّا إِذَا جَلَسْنَا بَيْنَ الرَّكْعَتَيْنِ فِي الصَّلَاةِ لَا نَدْرِي مَا نَقُولُ إِلَّا أَنْ نُسَبِّحَ وَنُكَبِّرَ وَنَذْكُرَ اللهَ وَإِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ عُلِّمَ جَوَامِعَ الْخَيْرِ وَفَوَاتِحَهُ فَأَقْبَلَ عَلَيْنَا بِوَجْهِهِ فَقَالَ إِذَا جَلَسْتُمْ بَيْنَ الرَّكْعَتَيْنِ فَقُولُوا التَّحِيَّاتُ لِلَّهِ وَالصَّلَوَاتُ وَالطَّيِّبَاتُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَى عِبَادِ اللهِ الصَّالِحِينَ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ قَالَ عَبْدُ اللهِ وَإِذَا قَالَ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَى عِبَادِ اللهِ الصَّالِحِينَ فَقَدْ أَصَابَتْ كُلَّ عَبْدٍ صَالِحٍ أَوْ نَبِيٍّ مُرْسَلٍ ثُمَّ يُبْتَدَأُ بِالثَّنَاءِ عَلَى اللهِ ﷻ وَالْمَدْحَةِ لَهُ بِمَا هُوَ أَهْلُهُ وَبِالصَّلَاةِ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ ثُمَّ يَسْأَلُ بَعْدُ

[Machine] When we used to pray, we did not know what to say. We would say "Peace be upon Allah, peace be upon Gabriel, peace be upon Michael, peace be upon the prophets." Then the Messenger of Allah taught us and said, "Verily, Allah is the Peace, so when you pray, say greetings to Allah, prayers and good deeds. Peace be upon you, O Prophet, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. Peace be upon us and upon the righteous servants of Allah." Abu Wael said in his narration from Abdullah from the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, "When you say it, it reaches every near and dear angel, every sent prophet, and every righteous servant. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger." And Abu Muhammad informed us that Ismail narrated to us from Ahmad bin Mansur, who narrated from Yazid, who narrated from Sufyan, who narrated from Abu Ishaq, who narrated from Abu Al-Ahwas and Abu Ubaydah, who narrated from Abdullah, who narrated from the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, with a similar narration. This was recorded in Sahih from the narration of Mansur and Al-A'mash from Abu Wael from Abdullah, as was mentioned earlier.

كُنَّا إِذَا صَلَّيْنَا لَا نَدْرِي مَا نَقُولُ نَقُولُ السَّلَامُ عَلَى اللهِ السَّلَامُ عَلَى جَبْرَائِيلَ السَّلَامُ عَلَى مِيكَائِيلَ السَّلَامُ عَلَى النَّبِيِّينَ فَعَلَّمَنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ إِنَّ اللهَ هُوَ السَّلَامُ فَإِذَا صَلَّيْتُمْ فَقُولُوا التَّحِيَّاتُ لِلَّهِ وَالصَّلَوَاتُ وَالطَّيِّبَاتُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَى عِبَادِ اللهِ الصَّالِحِينَ قَالَ أَبُو وَائِلٍ فِي حَدِيثِهِ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَإِذَا قُلْتَهَا أَصَابَتْ كُلَّ مَلَكٍ مُقَرَّبٍ وَنَبِيٍّ مُرْسَلٍ وَعَبْدٍ صَالِحٍ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ وَأَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ 3961 وَأَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو مُحَمَّدٍ أنبأ إِسْمَاعِيلُ ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ ثنا يَزِيدُ ثنا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ أَبِي الْأَحْوَصِ وَأَبِي عُبَيْدَةَ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ نَحْوَهُ أَخْرَجَاهُ فِي الصَّحِيحِ مِنْ حَدِيثِ مَنْصُورٍ وَالْأَعْمَشِ عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ كَمَا مَضَى

when we (prayed and) sat up during prayer along the Messenger of Allah (may peach be upon him), we said: “Peace be to Allah before it is supplicated for His servants; peace be to so and so. “The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Do not say “Peace be to Allah ,”for Allah Himself is peace. When one of you sits(during the prayer), he should say: The adoration of the tongue are due to Allah, and acts of worship and all good things. Peace be upon you, O Prophet, and Allah’s mercy and His blessings. Peace be upon us and upon Allah’s upright servants. When you say that, it reaches every upright servant in heavens and earth or between heavens and earth. I testify that there is no god but Allah, and I testify that Muhammad is His servant and apostle. Then he may choose any supplication which pleases him and offer it. قَالَ عَبْدُ اللهِ ؓ كُنَّا إِذَا جَلَسْنَا مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فِي الصَّلَاةِ قُلْنَا السَّلَامُ عَلَى اللهِ قَبْلَ عِبَادِهِ السَّلَامُ عَلَى جَبْرَائِيلَ السَّلَامُ عَلَى مِيكَائِيلَ السَّلَامُ عَلَى فُلَانٍ السَّلَامُ عَلَى فُلَانٍ قَالَ فَسَمِعَنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ إِنَّ اللهَ هُوَ السَّلَامُ فَإِذَا جَلَسَ أَحَدُكُمْ فِي الصَّلَاةِ فَلْيَقُلْ التَّحِيَّاتُ لِلَّهِ وَالصَّلَاةُ وَالطَّيِّبَاتُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَى عِبَادِ اللهِ الصَّالِحِينَ فَإِذَا قَالَهَا أَصَابَتْ كُلَّ عَبْدٍ صَالِحٍ فِي السَّمَاءِ وَالْأَرْضِ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ ثُمَّ يَتَخَيَّرُ بَعْدُ مِنَ الدُّعَاءِ مَا شَاءَ

Ibn Mas'ud said, " They were doing the prayer with the Prophet ﷺ and someone said, 'Peace be upon Allah.' When the Prophet ﷺ finished the prayer, he said, 'Who said "Peace be upon Allah"? Allah is Peace. Rather say, "Greetings belong to Allah and good words and prayers. Peace be upon you, O Prophet and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. Peace be upon us and upon all the right-acting slaves of Allah. I testify that there is no god but Allah and I testify that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger."'"

عَنِ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ قَالَ كَانُوا يُصَلُّونَ خَلْفَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ الْقَائِلُ السَّلاَمُ عَلَى اللهِ فَلَمَّا قَضَى النَّبِيُّ ﷺ صَلاَتَهُ قَالَ مَنِ الْقَائِلُ السَّلاَمُ عَلَى اللهِ؟ إِنَّ اللَّهَ هُوَ السَّلاَمُ وَلَكِنْ قُولُوا التَّحِيَّاتُ لِلَّهِ وَالصَّلَوَاتُ وَالطَّيِّبَاتُ السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَى عِبَادِ اللهِ الصَّالِحِينَ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ قَالَ وَقَدْ كَانُوا يَتَعَلَّمُونَهَا كَمَا يَتَعَلَّمُ أَحَدُكُمُ السُّورَةَ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ

أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ كَانَ يُعَلِّمُ رَجُلًا التَّشَهُّدَ فَقَالَ التَّحِيَّاتُ لِلَّهِ وَالصَّلَوَاتُ وَالطَّيِّبَاتُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ وَرَحْمَةُ اللَّهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَى عَبَّادِ اللَّهِ الصَّالِحِينَ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ فَأَعَادَهَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ عَلَيْهِ مِرَارًا كُلَّ ذَلِكَ يَقُولُ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ وَالرَّجُلُ يَقُولُ وَأَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ فَقَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ هَكَذَا عُلِّمْنَا وَهَذَا الْحَدِيثُ إِنَّمَا أَدْخَلْتُهُ الْمُسْنَدَ لِأَنَّهُ قَالَ هَكَذَا عُلِّمْنَا

الصَّلَاةِ السَّلَامُ عَلَى اللَّهِ السَّلَامُ عَلَى فُلَانٍ السَّلَامُ عَلَى فُلَانٍ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِنَّ اللَّهَ هُوَ السَّلَامُ فَقُولُوا التَّحِيَّاتُ لِلَّهِ وَالصَّلَوَاتُ وَالطَّيِّبَاتُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ وَرَحْمَةُ اللَّهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَى عَبَّادِ اللَّهِ الصَّالِحِينَ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ فَإِنَّكُمْ إِذَا قُلْتُمُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَى عَبَّادِ اللَّهِ الصَّالِحِينَ أَصَابَ كُلَّ عَبْدٍ لِلَّهِ صَالِحٍ بَيْنَ السَّمَاءِ وَالْأَرْضِ ثُمَّ لِيَتَخَيَّرْ أَحَدُكُمْ مِنَ الدُّعَاءِ مَا أَحَبَّ وَهَذَا الْحَدِيثُ قَدْ رَوَاهُ غَيْرُ وَاحِدٍ عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ

الصَّلَاةِ السَّلَامُ عَلَى اللَّهِ السَّلَامُ عَلَى فُلَانٍ وَفُلَانٍ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِنَّ اللَّهَ هُوَ السَّلَامُ فَقُولُوا التَّحِيَّاتُ لِلَّهِ وَالصَّلَوَاتُ وَالطَّيِّبَاتُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ وَرَحْمَةُ اللَّهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَى عِبَادِ اللَّهِ الصَّالِحِينَ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ وَلَا نَعْلَمُ رَوَى عُمَيْرُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ إِلَّا هَذَا الْحَدِيثَ وَرَوَاهُ غَيْرُ وَاحِدٍ عَنِ الْحَجَّاجِ عَنْ عُمَيْرِ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ مَوْقُوفًا

اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّهُ عَلَّمَهُمُ التَّشَهُّدَ التَّحِيَّاتُ لِلَّهِ وَالصَّلَوَاتُ وَالطَّيِّبَاتُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ وَرَحْمَةُ اللَّهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَى عِبَادِ اللَّهِ الصَّالِحِينَ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ وَلَا نَعْلَمُ رَوَى فُضَيْلُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ إِلَّا هَذَيْنِ الْحَدِيثَيْنِ

اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّهُ عَلَّمَهُمُ التَّشَهُّدَ التَّحِيَّاتُ لِلَّهِ وَالصَّلَوَاتُ وَالطَّيِّبَاتُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ وَرَحْمَةُ اللَّهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَى عِبَادِ اللَّهِ الصَّالِحِينَ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ قَالَ وَيُعَلِّمُنَا هَذَا الدُّعَاءَ كَمَا يُعَلِّمُنَا الْقُرْآنَ اللَّهُمَّ أَصْلِحْ ذَاتَ بَيْنِنَا وَأَلِّفْ بَيْنَ قُلُوبِنَا وَاهْدِنَا لِسُبُلِ السَّلَامِ وَجَنِّبْنَا الْفَوَاحِشَ مَا ظَهَرَ مِنْهَا وَمَا بَطَنَ اللَّهُمَّ بَارِكْ لَنَا فِي أَسْمَاعِنَا وَأَبْصَارِنَا وَأَزْوَاجِنَا وَذُرِّيَّاتِنَا وَتُبْ عَلَيْنَا إِنَّكَ أَنْتَ التَّوَّابُ الرَّحِيمُ اللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْنَا شَاكِرِينَ لِنِعْمَتِكَ مُثْنِينَ بِهَا قَابِلِيهَا وَأَتْمِمْهَا عَلَيْنَا يَا أَرْحَمَ الرَّاحِمِينَ وَهَذَا الْحَدِيثُ بِهَذَا اللَّفْظِ لَا نَعْلَمُ رَوَاهُ إِلَّا جَامِعُ بْنُ أَبِي رَاشِدٍ عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ

اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّهُ كَانَ يُعَلِّمُهُمُ التَّشَهُّدَ التَّحِيَّاتُ لِلَّهِ وَالصَّلَوَاتُ وَالطَّيِّبَاتُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ وَرَحْمَةُ اللَّهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَى عَبَّادِ اللَّهِ الصَّالِحِينَ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ وَهَذَا الْحَدِيثُ لَا نَعْلَمُهُ يُرْوَى مِنْ حَدِيثِ أَبِي مَعْمَرٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ إِلَّا مِنْ هَذَا الْوَجْهِ وَلَا نَعْلَمُ رَوَاهُ عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ إِلَّا سَيْفُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ

"عن عبد الرحمن بن عبد القارى قال: سمعتُ عمر بن الخطاب يُعَلِّمُ النَّاسَ التشهدَ في الصلاة وهو على منبر رسول الله ﷺ يقول: أيها الناس! إذا جلسَ أحدكم لِيُسَلِّمَ من صلاته أو يَتَشهدَ في وسطها فليقل: بسم الله خير الأسماء، التحياتُ الصلواتُ الطيباتُ المباركاتُ لله أَرْبَعٌ أيها الناسُ! أشهد أن لا إله إلا الله، وأشهد أن محمدا عبده ورسوله (التشهد) أيها الناسُ! قبلَ السلامُ عليك أيها النبي ورحمة الله وبركاته، السلام علينا وعلى عبادِ الله الصالحين ولا يقول أحدكم:

السلامُ على جبريلَ، السلام على ميكائيل، السلام على ملائكة الله؛ إذا قال: السلام علينا وعلى عباد الله الصالحين، فقد سَلَّمَ على كل عبد صالح في السموات أو في الأرض، ثم لِيُسَلِّمْ".

"عن عروة: أن عمر بن الخطاب كَانَ يُعَلِّمُ النَّاسَ التَشَهُّدَ فِى الصَّلَاةِ وَهُوَ يَخْطُبُ النَّاسَ عَلَى مِنْبَرِ رَسُولِ اللَّه ﷺ يَقُولُ: إِذَا تَشَهَّدَ أَحَدُكُم فَليَقُلْ: بِاسْمِ اللَّه خَيْرِ الأَسْمَاءِ، التَحِيَّاتُ الزَّاكِيَاتُ، والصَّلَوَاتُ الطَّيِّبَاتُ للَّه السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا النَّبِىُّ وَرَحْمَةُ اللَّه وَبَرَكَاتُهُ، السَّلَامُ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَى عبَادِ اللَّه، الصَّالِحِينَ: أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّه وأَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ: قَالَ عُمَرُ: ابْدَأُوا بِأَنْفُسِكُمْ بَعْدَ رَسُولِ اللَّه ﷺ وَسَلِّمُوا عَلَى عبَادِ اللَّه الصِّالِحِينَ".

"كُنَّا لَا نَدْرِى مَا نَقُولُ فِى الصَّلَاةِ فَكُنَّا نَقُولُ: السَّلَامُ عَلى الله السَّلَامُ عَلَى جبْرِيلَ السَّلَامُ عَلَى مِيكَائِيلَ، فَعَلَّمَنَا النَّبِىُّ ﷺ فَقَالَ: لَا تَقُولُوا السَّلَامُ عَلَى الله، فَإِنَّ الله هُوَ السَّلَامُ، فَإِذَا جَلَسْتُمْ في رَكْعَتَيْن، فَقُولُوا التَّحِيَّاتُ لله وَالصَّلَوَاتُ وَالطَّيِّبَاتُ، السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّها النَّبِىُّ وَرَحْمَةُ الله وَبَرَكَاتُهُ، السَّلَامُ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَى عِبَادِ الله الصالِحِينَ إِذَا قُلْتَهَا أَصَابَتْ كُلَّ عَبْدٍ صَالحٍ في السَّمَاءِ وَالأَرْض، وَفى لَفْظٍ، إِذَا قُلْتَهَا

أَصَابَتْ كُلَّ مَلَكٍ مُقَرَّبٍ أَوْ نَبِيٍ مُرْسَلٍ أَوْ عَبْدٍ صَالِحٍ، أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلهَ إِلَّا الله وَأَشْهَدُ أَن مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ".
