I asked Zaid bin Thabit about prostration on which he said that he had recited An-Najm before the Prophet, yet he (the Prophet) had not performed a prostration.

أَنَّهُ سَأَلَ زَيْدَ بْنَ ثَابِتٍ ؓ فَزَعَمَ أَنَّهُ قَرَأَ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ {وَالنَّجْمِ} فَلَمْ يَسْجُدْ فِيهَا

I recited An-Najm before the Prophet, yet he did not perform a prostration.

قَرَأْتُ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ {وَالنَّجْمِ} فَلَمْ يَسْجُدْ فِيهَا

There should be no recital along with the Imam in anything, and alleged that he recited:" By the star when it sets" (Surah Najm) before the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and he did not prostrate himself.

لاَ قِرَاءَةَ مَعَ الإِمَامِ فِي شَىْءٍ وَزَعَمَ أَنَّهُ قَرَأَ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ { وَالنَّجْمِ إِذَا هَوَى} فَلَمْ يَسْجُدْ

"I recited to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ (Surat) An-Najm and he did not prostrate in it."

قَرَأْتُ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ النَّجْمَ فَلَمْ يَسْجُدْ فِيهَا

"I recited Surat An-Najm to the Messenger of Allah, and he did not prostrate for it."

قَرَأْتُ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ النَّجْمَ فَلَمْ يَسْجُدْ فِيهَا

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ recited An-Najm and prostrated during it.

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَرَأَ النَّجْمَ فَسَجَدَ فِيهَا

He asked Zaid bin Thabit about reciting with the Imam. He said: "There is no recitation with the Imam in anything." And he claimed that he had recited: "By the star when it goes down (or vanishes)" to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and he did not prostrate.

لاَ قِرَاءَةَ مَعَ الإِمَامِ فِي شَىْءٍ وَزَعَمَ أَنَّهُ قَرَأَ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ { وَالنَّجْمِ إِذَا هَوَى } فَلَمْ يَسْجُدْ

"I recited to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ (Surat) An-Najm and he did not prostrate in it." (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1404)

«قَرَأْتُ عِنْدَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَالنَّجْمِ فَلَمْ يَسْجُدْ فِيهَا»

قَرَأْتُ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ النَّجْمَ فَلَمْ يَسْجُدْ

«قَرَأْتُ عِنْدَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ النَّجْمَ فَلَمْ يَسْجُدْ»

«قَرَأْتُ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ النَّجْمَ فَلَمْ يَسْجُدْ»

The Prophet ﷺ was in Makkah, and he recited Surat al-Najm until he reached, "Have you considered al-Lat and al-Uzza, and Manat, the third, the other?" Then there flowed upon his tongue: "Those are the exalted gharaniq (cranes); intercession from them is hoped for." He said: When the polytheists among the people of Makkah heard that, they were pleased with it, and it became hard upon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. So Allah ﷻ sent down: "And We did not send before you any messenger or prophet except that when he recited, Satan cast into his recitation; but Allah abolishes what Satan casts, then Allah makes firm His verses."

أَنَّ النَّبيَّ ﷺ كَانَ بِمَكَّةَ، فَقَرَأَ سُورَةَ النَّجْمِ حَتَّى انتهى إلى ﴿ أفرأيتم اللت والعزى ومناه الثَّالِثة الأُخرَى﴾، فَجَرَى عَلَى لِسَانِهِ: «تِلْكَ الْغَرَانِيقُ الْعُلا الشَّفَاعَةُ منها ترتجى». قال: فسمع ذلك مشركي أَهْلِ مَكَّةَ فَسُرُّوا بِذَلِكَ، فَاشْتَدَّ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ، فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى: ﴿ وَمَا أَرْسَلْنَا مِنْ قَبْلِكَ مِنْ رَسُولٍ ولاَ نَبِيٍّ إلاَّ إِذَا تَمَنَّى أَلْقَى الشَّيْطَانُ فِي أُمْنِيَّتِهِ فَيَنْسَخُ اللَّهُ مَا يُلْقِي الشيطان ثُمَّ يحكم الله آياته﴾.

[AI] I read with the Prophet ﷺ from the Quranic chapter known as "An-Najm" and he did not prostrate.

«قَرَأْتُ عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ بِ النَّجْمِ فَلَمْ يَسْجُدْ»

[AI] That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ recited al-Najm, and when he reached, "Have you considered al-Lat and al-Uzza" "and Manat, the third, the other," Satan cast onto his tongue: Those are the exalted gharaiq (cranes), and their intercession is surely hoped for. When he prostrated, the Muslims and the polytheists prostrated, so Allah ﷻ revealed, "And We did not send before you any messenger or prophet except that, when he recited, Satan cast," up to His saying, "the punishment of a barren day"; the Day of Badr.

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَرَأَ النَّجْمَ، فَلَمَّا بَلَغَ ﴿أَفَرَأَيْتُمُ اللَّاتَ وَالْعُزَّى﴾ ﴿وَمَنَاةَ الثَّالِثَةَ الْأُخْرَى﴾، أَلْقَى الشَّيْطَانُ عَلَى لِسَانِهِ: تِلْكَ الْغَرَانِيقُ الْعُلَى، وَشَفَاعَتُهُنْ لَتُرْتَجَى. فَلَمَّا سَجَدَ، سَجَدَ الْمُسْلِمُونَ وَالْمُشْرِكُونَ، فَأَنْزَلَ اللهُ ﷻ ﴿وَمَا أَرْسَلْنَا مِنْ قَبْلِكَ مِنْ رَسُولٍ وَلَا نَبِيٍّ إِلَّا إِذَا تَمَنَّى أَلْقَى الشَّيْطَانُ﴾، إِلَى قَوْلِهِ ﴿عَذَابُ يَوْمٍ عَقِيمٍ﴾؛ يَوْمُ بَدْرٍ.

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ «قَرَأَ النَّجْمَ فَسَجَدَ بِهَا»

[AI] "He read to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, 'And the star when it descends, it does not prostrate.'"

أَنَّهُ قَرَأَ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَالنَّجْمُ إِذَا هَوَى فَلَمْ يَسْجُدْ»

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ «قَرَأَ النَّجْمَ فَسَجَدَ بِهِمْ»

[AI] I read with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about the star, and he did not prostrate during it.

قَرَأْتُ عِنْدَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَالنَّجْمِ فَلَمْ يَسْجُدْ فِيهَا

[AI] He recited upon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ the verses: "By the star when it goes down, your companion has not strayed."

أَنَّهُ قَرَأَ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَالنَّجْمِ إِذَا هَوَى فَلَمْ يَسْجُدْ

[AI] I read to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ the chapter of An-Najm, and he did not prostrate during it.

قَرَأْتُ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ النَّجْمَ فَلَمْ يَسْجُدْ فِيهَا

[AI] About the prophet ﷺ , that he did it.

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ أَنَّهُ فَعَلَهُ

[AI] God's Messenger has given us the choice, so we did not consider it as divorce.

ؓ قَدْ خَيَّرَنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَلَمْ نَعُدَّهُ طَلَاقًا

" قرأتُ على رسولِ الله ﷺ النجم فلم يسجدْ".
