The words of adhan were pronounced from the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ twice in pairs (i.e. four times) each, and the words of iqamah were pronounced once in pairs (twice each), except that the phrase "The time for prayer has come" would be pronounced twice. When we heard iqamah, we would perform ablution, and go out for prayer. Shu'bah said: I did not hear AbuJa'far narrating any other tradition except this one. [Machine] I heard Abu Ja'far, the muezzin of the naked people, speaking in the mosque of Bani Hilal, talking about Muslim, the muezzin of the Grand Mosque, narrating from Ibn Umar that he said: "The Adhan during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to be repeated twice, and the Iqamah was said only once. However, he used to say 'The prayer has been established, the prayer has been established'. So, whenever we heard the Iqamah, we would perform ablution and then go out for prayer." Shu'bah said: "I don't remember anything else from him except this narration."
