1.6. Rest of the Ten Promised Paradise (3/7)
“I said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, which people are most severely tested?’ He said: ‘The Prophets, then the next best and the next best. A person is tested according to his religious commitment. If he is steadfast in his religious commitment, he will be tested more severely, and if he is frail in his religious commitment, his test will be according to his commitment. Trials will continue to afflict a person until they leave him walking on the earth with no sin on him.’” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 4023)
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ visited him while he was sick in Makkah, so I said, "O Messenger of Allah, shall I bequeath all my wealth?" He said, "No." I said, "Shall I bequeath half of it?" He said, "No." I said, "Shall I bequeath one-third of it?" He said, "One-third and even one-third is a lot. It is better for you to leave your heirs wealthy than to leave them poor, forcing people to provide for them. And no matter how much you spend on your family, you will be rewarded for it, even for a morsel of food that you raise to your wife's mouth." He said, "At that time, he had only one daughter." Saad mentioned hijrah (migration) and said, "May Allah have mercy on Ibn 'Afrah. Perhaps Allah will raise your rank until a group benefits from you while others are harmed."
[Machine] The man heard his son praying, saying, "O Allah, I ask You for Jannah (Paradise) and its blessings, and the rain that brings it to life, and similar to it from this world. And I seek refuge in You from the Fire and its chains and fetters." The man said, "You have asked Allah for many good things and sought His protection from many evils. And indeed, I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, 'There will be people who exceed the boundaries in supplication.' And he recited this verse, 'Invoke your Lord in humility and privately; indeed, He does not like transgressors.' (Quran 7:55) And it is sufficient for you to say, 'O Allah, I ask You for Jannah and whatever brings one closer to it in speech or action. And I seek refuge in You from the Fire and whatever brings one closer to it in speech or action.'"
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ used to say: "I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ raising his right hand in greeting until the whiteness of his cheek could be seen, and raising his left hand until the whiteness of his cheek could be seen."
"I do not have any children apart from one daughter. Shall I bequeath all my wealth?" The Prophet said: "No." He said: "Shall I bequeath half of it?" The Prophet said: "No." He said: "Shall I bequeath one-third of it?" He said: "One-third, and one-third is much or large." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 3635)
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ entered upon him, so he mentioned something like it and said, "Abdul-Samad is plentiful, meaning one-third."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "I am amazed by the decree of Allah for the believer. If something good happens to him, he praises his Lord and expresses gratitude. And if something bad happens to him, he praises his Lord and remains patient. The believer is rewarded for every little thing, even for a morsel of food he raises it to his wife."
"The Prophet used to visit him when he was in Makkah, and he did not want to die in the land from which he had emigrated. The Prophet said: 'May Allah have mercy on Sa'd bin 'Afra.' He had only one daughter, and he said: 'O Messenger of Allah, shall I bequeath all my wealth?' He said: 'No.' I said: 'Half?' He said: 'No.' I said: 'One-third?' He said: 'One-third, and one-third is a lot. For you to leave your heirs independent of means is better than if you were to leave them poor, holding out their hands to people.'" (Using translation from Nasāʾī 3628)
"Make a niche for me in the side of the grave and set up (bricks) over me as was done for the Messenger of Allah." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 2007)
[Machine] So I said the statement of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to Ali when he left him in Medina during the expedition of Tabuk. Saad said, "The Prophet ﷺ entrusted Ali with the leadership in Medina during the expedition of Tabuk." Ali said, "O Messenger of Allah, are you leaving me to be in charge of women and children?" The Prophet ﷺ said, "Would you not be pleased to have the same position as Harun had with Musa?" He replied, "Yes, O Messenger of Allah." Then Ali left quickly, as if I could see the dust rising from his footsteps. Hamad said, "Then Ali returned quickly."
[Machine] The plague was mentioned in the presence of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , so he said, "It is a punishment that those before you were afflicted with. So if it appears in a land, do not enter it, and if it is already in a land and you are there, then do not leave it."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "I am amazed at the believer. If something good happens to him, he thanks Allah and praises Him. And if something bad happens to him, he thanks Allah and shows patience. The believer is rewarded for every action, even for the morsel of food he raises to his wife."
[Machine] I said, "O Messenger of Allah, can a man be the defender of his people, even if his arrow is the same as the arrow of others?" He replied, "May your mother be bereaved of you, O son of Umm Sa'd! Are you given provision and victory except by the weak among you?"
[Machine] I asked the Messenger of Allah (PBUH), "Which people are tested the most severely?" He replied, "The prophets, then those who are most similar, then those who are similar." A person is tested according to his faith. If his faith is weak, he will be tested accordingly. If his faith is strong, he will be tested accordingly. He added, "The afflictions will continue to come to a person until they leave him walking on the Earth, with no sin on him."
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ mentioned both of his parents together for me on the Day of ‘Uhud (i.e., in the phrase “may my father and mother be sacrificed for youʿ.] (Using translation from Aḥmad 1408)
[Machine] From the Messenger of Allah ﷺ that he said, "Can any of you not gain a thousand good deeds in a day?" He asked, "Who can afford that?" He said, "He who glorifies Allah with a hundred glorifications (SubhanAllah) will have a thousand good deeds written for him and a thousand bad deeds erased from him."
[Machine] I heard Saad being the first to throw an arrow in the cause of Allah, and Abu Bakr had fortified the fortress of Taif against a group of people. So they came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "We heard the Prophet ﷺ saying, 'Whoever claims to belong to someone other than his father, while knowing that he is not his father, then Paradise is forbidden for him.'"
[Machine] Saad, I have seen myself seventh of seven with the messenger of Allah ﷺ , and we did not have food except the leaves of a date palm tree. One of us would tie his waist with a stone to ease the hunger, then Banu Asad became powerful and tried to force me to denounce Islam. I have truly lost and my effort has gone astray.
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Whoever claims to belong to someone other than his father, knowing the truth, Paradise is forbidden for him."
[Machine] "O Saad, for me, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, please stand up and give the call to prayer from Mina, as it is the days of eating and drinking and not fasting in it."
[Machine] Sa'd said to me, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "I came to you to advise you." I said, "Yes, I made all of my wealth for the poor, the needy, and the wayfarer." He said, "Don't do that." I said, "But my heirs are rich." I said, "Two-thirds?" He said, "No." I said, "Half?" He said, "No." I said, "One-third?" He said, "One-third, and one-third is a lot."
The Prophet ﷺ said: There is no hamah, no infection and no evil omen; if there is in anything an evil omen, it is a house, a horse, and a woman. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 3921)
during the year that Mu'awiyah bin abi sufyan performed Hajj, he heard Sa'd bin Abi Waqqas and Ad-Dahhak bin Qais talking about joining 'Umrah to Hajj (Tamattu) Ad-Dahhak said: "none does that but one who is ignorant of the ruling of Allah." Sa'd said: "What a bad thing to say, O son of my brother!" Ad-Dahhak said: "Umar bin Al-Khattab forbade that." Sa'd daid: "The Messenger of Allah did that and we did it with him." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 2734)
[Machine] I heard Saad say that he heard it from the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ that whoever claims to be someone's father without being their biological father, while knowing that he is not their father, then Paradise is forbidden for him. I met Abu Bakr and spoke to him about it, and he said, "I also heard it with my own ears and it settled in my heart from Muhammad ﷺ ."
The Prophet said to 'Ali: "Would it not please you to be to me as Harun was to Musa?" (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 115)
"If a man were to fill his stomach completely with pus until it destroyed him, that would be better for him than filling (his mind) with poetry." (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 3760)
"If a man were to fill his stomach completely with pus until it destroyed him, that would be better for him than filling (his mind) with poetry." (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 3760)
[Machine] On the authority of the Prophet ﷺ, he said regarding plague: "If it occurs in a land, do not enter it; and if you are in that land, do not leave it." Shu'bah narrated to me and Hisham, the son of Abu Bakr, informed me that Ikrimah ibn Khalid said...
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ said to Ali, "Do you not want to be to me as Harun was to Musa?" He said, "I am content, I am content." Then he said, "Yes, yes."
’Umar said to Sa’d: people complain against you for everything, even for prayer. He replied: I prolong the first two rak’ahs of prayer and make the last two rak’ahs brief; I do not fall short of following the prayer offered by the Messenger of Allah(May peace be upon him). He said: I think so about you. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 803)

(The narrator Qutaibah said: This tradition has been narrated by Sa'id b. Abu Sa'id in my collection): The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: He who does not chant the Qur'an is not one of us. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1469)

[Machine] We accompanied the Messenger of Allah ﷺ until we passed by the mosque of Bani Muawiya. He entered and prayed two units of prayer, and we prayed with him. He then supplicated to his Lord for a long time. He said, "I asked my Lord three things. I asked Him to not destroy my Ummah (nation) by drowning, so He granted it to me. I asked Him to not destroy my Ummah by famine, so He granted it to me. And I asked Him to not cause them to fight among themselves, so He prevented me from that."
[Machine] "O my son, have you finished speaking?" He replied, "Yes." Then he said, "You have never asked anything of me before, and I have never taken such interest in you since I heard you speaking. I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'There will be a people who eat with their tongues as cows eat from the ground.'"
[Machine] The people of Kufa complained to Umar about Saad, saying that he does not pray properly. Umar asked Saad about this and he replied, "I pray with them using the prayer of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . I bow longer in the first two rak'ahs and shorten it in the last two." Umar told him, "That is your own assumption, O Abu Ishaq."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Fighting against a Muslim is disbelief, and insulting him is sinful. It is not permissible for a Muslim to abandon his brother for more than three days."

[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "Whoever humiliates the Quraysh, Allah, the Almighty, will humiliate him."
The Prophet (May peace be upon him) gave some people and did not give anything to a man of them. Sa’d said : Messenger of Allah! You gave so and so, so and so, but did not give anything to so and so while he is a believer. The Prophet (May peace be upon him) said : Or he is a Muslim. Sa’d repeated it thrice and the Prophet (May peace be upon him) then said : I give some people and leave him who is dearer to me than them. I do not give him anything fearing lest he should fall into Hell on his face. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 4683)

On the authority of his father (Sa'd b. Abi Waqqas): When he (Sa'd) fell ill at Mecca (according to the version of Ibn Abi Kkalaf) - then the agreed version has: which brought him near to death - the Messenger of Allah ﷺ went to visit him. He said: Messenger of Allah, I have a large amount of property, and my daughter is my only heir. May I give two-thirds (of my property) as a sadaqah (charity)? He said: No. He asked: Then a half ? He replied: No. He asked: Then one-third ? He replied: (You may will away) a third and third is a lot. To leave your heirs rich is better than to leave them poor begging from people. You will not spend anything, seeking thereby to please Allah, without being rewarded for it, even the mouthful you give your wife. I said: Messenger of Allah, shall I be left behind form immigration (to Medina)? He said: If you remain behind after me and do good works seeking the pleasure of Allah, your rank will be raised and degree increased. Perhaps you will not remain behind, and some people will benefit from you and others will be harmed by you. He then said: O Allah, complete the immigration of my Companions and do not turn them back. But miserable was Sa'd b. Khawlah. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ lamented on him as he died at Mecca. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 2864)
