"The Prophet [SAW] gave a share (of some spoils of war) to some men and not to others. Sa'd said: 'O Messenger of Allah [SAW], you gave to so-and-so and so-and-so, but you did not give anything to so-and-so, and he is a believer.' The Prophet [SAW] said: 'Or a Muslim,' until Sa'd had repeated it three times, and the Prophet [SAW] said: 'I give to some men, and leave those who are dearer to me, without giving them anything, lest (the former) be thrown into Hell on their faces.'"

أَعْطَى النَّبِيُّ ﷺ رِجَالاً وَلَمْ يُعْطِ رَجُلاً مِنْهُمْ شَيْئًا قَالَ سَعْدٌ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَعْطَيْتَ فُلاَنًا وَفُلاَنًا وَلَمْ تُعْطِ فُلاَنًا شَيْئًا وَهُوَ مُؤْمِنٌ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ أَوْ مُسْلِمٌ حَتَّى أَعَادَهَا سَعْدٌ ثَلاَثًا وَالنَّبِيُّ ﷺ يَقُولُ أَوْ مُسْلِمٌ ثُمَّ قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ إِنِّي لأُعْطِي رِجَالاً وَأَدَعُ مَنْ هُوَ أَحَبُّ إِلَىَّ مِنْهُمْ لاَ أُعْطِيهِ شَيْئًا مَخَافَةَ أَنْ يُكَبُّوا فِي النَّارِ عَلَى وُجُوهِهِمْ

The Prophet (May peace be upon him) gave some people and did not give anything to a man of them. Sa’d said : Messenger of Allah! You gave so and so, so and so, but did not give anything to so and so while he is a believer. The Prophet (May peace be upon him) said : Or he is a Muslim. Sa’d repeated it thrice and the Prophet (May peace be upon him) then said : I give some people and leave him who is dearer to me than them. I do not give him anything fearing lest he should fall into Hell on his face.

أَعْطَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ رِجَالاً وَلَمْ يُعْطِ رَجُلاً مِنْهُمْ شَيْئًا فَقَالَ سَعْدٌ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَعْطَيْتَ فُلاَنًا وَفُلاَنًا وَلَمْ تُعْطِ فُلاَنًا شَيْئًا وَهُوَ مُؤْمِنٌ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ أَوْ مُسْلِمٌ حَتَّى أَعَادَهَا سَعْدٌ ثَلاَثًا وَالنَّبِيُّ ﷺ يَقُولُ أَوْ مُسْلِمٌ ثُمَّ قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ إِنِّي أُعْطِي رِجَالاً وَأَدَعُ مَنْ هُوَ أَحَبُّ إِلَىَّ مِنْهُمْ لاَ أُعْطِيهِ شَيْئًا مَخَافَةَ أَنْ يُكَبُّوا فِي النَّارِ عَلَى وُجُوهِهِمْ

[Machine] Narrated by the Prophet ﷺ , a group of people came to him and asked for something, so he gave them all except one person. Saad then said, "O Messenger of Allah! You gave them and left out so-and-so, by Allah, I see him as a believer." The Prophet ﷺ asked, "Or a Muslim?" Saad replied, "That is true. By Allah, I love to give a person something from my personal wealth, other than him, for fear that Allah will throw him on his face in Hellfire."

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ أَنَّهُ أَتَاهُ رَهْطٌ فَسَأَلُوهُ فَأَعْطَاهُمِ إلا رَجُلًا مِنْهُمْ قَالَ سَعْدٌ فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَعْطَيْتَهُمْ وَتَرَكْتَ فُلانًا فَوَاللهِ إِنِّي لأرَاهُ مُؤْمِنًا فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ أَوْ مُسْلِمًا فَرَدَّ عَلَيْهِ سَعْدٌ ذَلِكَ ثَلاثًا مُؤْمِنًا وَرَدَّ عَلَيْهِ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ أَوْ مُسْلِمًا فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فِي الثَّالِثَةِ وَاللهِ إِنِّي لأعْطِي الرَّجُلَ الْعَطَاءَ لَغَيْرُهُ أَحَبُّ إِلَيَّ مِنْهُ تخَوْفًا أَنْ يَكُبَّهُ اللهُ عَلَى وَجْهِهِ فِي النَّارِ

[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ gave to some men but did not give anything to another man from them, so I said, "O Messenger of Allah, you gave so-and-so and so-and-so but did not give anything to so-and-so, who is also a believer." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied, "Or a Muslim." He said this three times. Al-Zuhri said, "We believe that Islam is the statement (of faith) and faith is the action."

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ أَعْطَى رِجَالًا وَلَمْ يُعْطِ رَجُلًا مِنْهُمْ شَيْئًا فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَعْطَيْتَ فُلَانًا وَفُلَانًا وَلَمْ تُعْطِ فُلَانًا شَيْئًا وَهُوَ مُؤْمِنٌ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «أَوْ مُسْلِمٌ» قَالَهَا ثَلَاثًا قَالَ الزُّهْرِيُّ نَرَى أَنَّ الْإِسْلَامَ الْكَلِمَةُ وَالْإِيمَانَ الْعَمَلُ

أَعْطَى رِجَالًا وَلَمْ يُعْطِ رَجُلًا فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَعْطَيْتَ فُلَانًا وَفُلَانًا وَتَرَكْتَ فُلَانًا لَمْ تُعْطِهِ وَهُوَ مُؤْمِنٌ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَوَمُسْلِمٌ ثُمَّ قَالَ إِنِّي أُعْطِي رِجَالًا وَأَدَعُ مَنْ هُوَ أَحَبُّ إِلَيَّ مِنْهُمْ مَخَافَةَ أَنْ يُكَبُّوا فِي النَّارِ عَلَى وُجُوهِهِمْ وَهَذَا الْكَلَامُ رُوِيَ عَنْ سَعْدٍ وَعَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ تَغْلِبَ وَعَنْ غَيْرِهِمَا وَحَدِيثُ سَعْدٍ إِسْنَادٌ صَحِيحٌ فَاقْتَصَرْنَا عَلَيْهِ
