1.6.13 [Machine] My father is Ubaydah bin al-Jarraah
and his name is ʿĀmir b. ʿAbdullāh
and his name is ʿĀmir b. ʿAbdullāh
[Machine] Abu Ubaydah did not mind if he would receive any compensation. He stood with his face against the wall and faced the people. He asked them, "Do you not ask me about what I said?" They replied, "We were not amazed by what you said, so we do not ask you about it." He said, "I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, 'Whoever spends in charity for the sake of Allah with the intention of earning rewards, then he will be rewarded seven hundred times over. And whoever spends on himself, his family, or a sick person or a person in need, then every good deed will be rewarded ten times over. And fasting is a shield as long as it is not violated. And whoever is afflicted by Allah with a calamity in his body, then it will serve as an expiation for his sins.'"
[Machine] The last thing the Prophet ﷺ said was "Expel the Jews of the Hijaz and the people of Najran from the Arabian Peninsula, and know that the worst of people are those who have taken the graves of their prophets as places of worship."
[Machine] "On the authority of the Prophet, ﷺ , who mentioned the Dajjal, and described him wearing a adornment that I cannot recall. They said: O Messenger of Allah, how will our hearts be on that day, compared to today? He replied: They will be sounder and better."
"I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ: 'There was never a Prophet after Nuh but that he warned his people about the Dajjal, and indeed I shall warn you of him.' Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ described him for us, and he said: "Perhaps some of you who see me, or hear my words shall live to see him." They said: "O Messenger of Allah! How will our hearts be on that day?" He said: "The same – that is, as today – or better.” (Hasan) (Using translation from Tirmidhī 2234)
[Machine] The last thing that the Prophet of Allah ﷺ spoke about was to expel the Jews of Hijaz from the Arabian Peninsula, and know that the worst of people are those who take graves as places of worship.
[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, "One of them provides shelter for the Muslims."
[Machine] When a man entered upon him and found him crying, he said, "What makes you cry, O Abu 'Ubaidah?" He said, "I cried because the Messenger of Allah ﷺ mentioned a day when Allah would grant victory to the Muslims and give them power over their enemies, and he mentioned Sham (Greater Syria). Then he said, 'If you live long enough, O Abu 'Ubaidah, you will see three servants who will serve you: a servant who will serve you, a servant who will travel with you, and a servant who will serve your family and look after them.' And you will have three animals that will carry your belongings: an animal for your luggage, an animal for your provisions, and another animal for your servant's provisions. Then he said, 'Now I am looking at my house, which is filling up with soft things. And I am looking at my stable, which is filling up with animals and horses. So how can I meet the Messenger of Allah ﷺ after this? Even though the Messenger of Allah ﷺ told me that you are the most beloved of people to me and the closest to me among them, to meet me in the same state in which I left you.'

[Machine] About a man from his people who succeeded his mother after his father. He witnessed the plague of 'Amawas. Abu 'Ubaydah ibn al-Jarrah stood before the people to address them when the pain intensified. He said, "O people, this pain is the mercy of your Lord, the supplication of your Prophet, and the death of the righteous before you. And Abu 'Ubaydah is asking Allah for his share of it." Then he was stabbed and died. Allah's mercy be upon him. Mu'adh ibn Jabal was appointed as the successor of the people and he stood before them to address them. He said, "O people, this pain is the mercy of your Lord, the supplication of your Prophet, and the death of the righteous before you. And Mu'adh is asking Allah to give his family their share of it." Then his son 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Mu'adh was stabbed and died. Then Mu'adh himself prayed to his Lord for himself and was stabbed in his temple. I saw him looking at the wound, then kissing the back of his hand, and saying, "I wish to have anything in this world for what is in you." When he died, 'Amr ibn al-'As was appointed as the successor of the people, and he stood among us as a preacher. He said, "O people, when this pain occurs, it is like the ignition of fire, so take refuge in the mountains." Abu Waathilah al-Hudhali said to him, "You lie, by Allah! I kept the company of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , and you are worse than my donkey." 'Amr ibn al-'As said, "By Allah, I will not respond to what you say. By the oath of Allah, we will not establish it upon you." Then he left and the people scattered away from him, and Allah saved them from him. 'Umar ibn al-Khattab learned about 'Amr's opinion from 'Amr. By Allah, 'Umar did not dislike it. Abu 'Abd al-Rahman 'Abd Allah ibn Ahmad ibn Hanbal narrated this from Aban ibn Salih, the grandfather of Abu 'Abd al-Rahman, who used to stammer.

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent the army of Dhat al-Salsal and appointed Abu Ubaydah over the Muhajireen (emigrants) and appointed Amr ibn al-'As over the Arabs. He said to them, "Cooperate with each other." They said, "We were commanded to follow Bakr." So Amr set out and became jealous over Qudaa'ah because Bakr was his cousin. The Mu'gheerah ibn Shu'bah went to Abu Ubaydah and said, "Indeed, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ appointed you over us, and the son of so-and-so has taken command of the people and you have no authority with him." Abu Ubaydah said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded us to cooperate, so I obey the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , even if Amr disobeys him."

[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "Whoever spends in the way of Allah an extra spending, it will be multiplied seven hundred times. And whoever spends on himself, his family, a sick person, or someone who is injured, it will be rewarded ten times its value. And fasting is a shield as long as it is not broken. And whoever Allah afflicts with a calamity in his body, it will be an expiation for him."

[Machine] We entered upon Abu Ubaydah, and he mentioned the narration.
