The rewards of spending, kindness, and fasting

[Machine] Abu Ubaydah did not mind if he would receive any compensation. He stood with his face against the wall and faced the people. He asked them, "Do you not ask me about what I said?" They replied, "We were not amazed by what you said, so we do not ask you about it." He said, "I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, 'Whoever spends in charity for the sake of Allah with the intention of earning rewards, then he will be rewarded seven hundred times over. And whoever spends on himself, his family, or a sick person or a person in need, then every good deed will be rewarded ten times over. And fasting is a shield as long as it is not violated. And whoever is afflicted by Allah with a calamity in his body, then it will serve as an expiation for his sins.'"

أَبُو عُبَيْدَةَ مَا بِتُّ بِأَجْرٍ وَكَانَ مُقْبِلًا بِوَجْهِهِ عَلَى الْحَائِطِ فَأَقْبَلَ عَلَى الْقَوْمِ بِوَجْهِهِ فَقَالَ أَلا تَسْأَلُونَنِي عَمَّا قُلْتُ؟ قَالُوا مَا أَعْجَبَنَا مَا قُلْتَ فَنَسْأَلُكَ عَنْهُ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ مَنِ أنْفَقَ نَفَقَةً فَاضِلَةً فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ فَبِسَبْعِ مِائَةٍ وَمَنِ أنْفَقَ عَلَى نَفْسِهِ وَأَهْلِهِ أَوْ عَادَ مَرِيضًا أَوْ مَازَ أَذًى فَالْحَسَنَةُ بِعَشْرِ أَمْثَالِهَا وَالصَّوْمُ جُنَّةٌ مَا لَمْ يَخْرِقْهَا وَمَنِ ابْتَلاهُ اللهُ بِبَلاءٍ فِي جَسَدِهِ فَهُوَ لَهُ حِطَّةٌ

[Machine] "Do you not ask me about what I said? So we said, 'We liked what you said, so we ask you about it.' He said, 'I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, "Whoever spends in the path of Allah, it will be multiplied by seven hundred. And whoever spends on himself, his family, or a sick person or anything that increases, the reward of that will be tenfold. And fasting is a shield as long as it is not violated. And whoever Allah afflicts with a calamity in his body, he will have his sins forgiven."' Adh-Dhahabi remained silent about it in his summary."

أَلَا تَسْأَلُونِي عَمَّا قُلْتُ؟ فَقُلْنَا مَا أَعْجَبَنَا مَا قُلْتَ فَنَسْأَلُكَ عَنْهُ فَقَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «مَنْ أَنْفَقَ نَفَقَةً فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ فَبِسَبْعِ مِائَةٍ وَمَنْ أَنْفَقَ عَلَى نَفْسِهِ وَأَهْلِهِ أَوْ عَادَ مَرِيضًا أَوْ مَا زَادَ فَالْحَسَنَةُ بِعَشْرِ أَمْثَالِهَا وَالصَّوْمُ جُنَّةٌ مَا لَمْ يَخْرِقْهَا وَمَنِ ابْتَلَاهُ اللَّهُ بِبَلَاءٍ فِي جَسَدِهِ فَهُوَ لَهُ حِطَّةٌ» سكت عنه الذهبي في التلخيص

[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, "Whoever spends a good expense in the cause of Allah, he will be rewarded with seven hundred times. And whoever spends an expense on his family or removes harm from a way, the good deed is multiplied ten times. And fasting is a shield as long as it is not broken. And whoever Allah afflicts with a trial in his body, he will have his sins purged from it." Khalid said, meaning, "His sins are forgiven for him."

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ مَنْ أَنْفَقَ نَفَقَةً فَاضِلَةً فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ فَبِسَبْعِ مِائَةٍ وَمَنْ أَنْفَقَ نَفَقَةً عَلَى أَهْلِهِ أَوْ مَازَ أَذًى عَنْ طَرِيقٍ فَالْحَسَنَةُ عَشْرُ أَمْثَالِهَا وَالصَّوْمُ جُنَّةٌ مَا لَمْ يَخْرِقْهَا وَمَنِ ابْتَلَاهُ اللهُ بِبَلَاءٍ فِي جَسَدِهِ فَلَهُ بِهِ حِطَّةُ خَطِيئَةٍ قَالَ خَالِدٌ يَعْنِي تُحَطُّ عَنْهُ ذُنُوبَهُ

[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: "Whoever spends a dirham in the way of Allah, the Exalted, will have its reward multiplied seven hundred times. And whoever spends on himself, or his family, or attends to a sick person, or removes harm, the good deed will be multiplied ten times. And fasting is a shield as long as one does not swerve from it. And whoever Allah afflicts with a trial in his body, then he will have the reward of expiation."

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ مَنْ أَنْفَقَ نَفَقَةً فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ فَاضِلَةً فَسَبْعَمِائَةٍ وَمَنْ أَنْفَقَ عَلَى نَفْسِهِ أَوْ قَالَ عَلَى أَهْلِهِ أَوْ عَادَ مَرِيضًا أَوْ أَمَاطَ أَذًى فَالْحَسَنَةُ بِعَشْرِ أَمْثَالِهَا وَالصَّوْمُ جُنَّةٌ مَا لَمْ يَخْرِقْهَا وَمَنِ ابْتَلَاهُ اللهُ بِبَلَاءٍ فِي جَسَدِهِ فَلَهُ حِطَّةٌ

"مَنْ أَنْفَقَ نَفَقَةً فَاضِلَةً في سَبِيلِ الله، فَبِسَبْعمائَةِ ضِعْفٍ، وَمَنْ أَنْفَقَ عَلَى نَفْسِهِ أَوْ عَلَى أَهْلهِ، أَوْ عَادَ مَرِيضًا أَوْ أَمَاطَ أَذىً عَنْ طَرِيق، أَوْ تَصَدَّقَ، فَهِيَ حَسَنَةٌ بِعَشْرِ أَمْثَالِهَا، وَالصَّوْمُ جُنَّةٌ مَا لَمْ يَخْرِقْهَا، وَمَن ابْتَلاهُ بِبَلاءٍ في جَسَدِهِ فَهُو لَهُ حطَّةٌ".

"مَنْ ابْتَلاه اللهُ بِبَلاءٍ في جَسَدِهِ فَهُو لَهُ حِطةٌ، ومَنْ فَعَلَ حَسَنَةً فَبعشْرِ أَمْثَالِهَا، وَمَن أَنْفَقَ نَفَقَةً فَاضِلَةً في سَبيلِ اللهِ فَبِسَبْعِمِائة، وَمَنْ أَمَاطَ أَذىً عَن الطَّريق كُتِب لَهُ حَسَنَةٌ".

"عَنِ الوَليدِ بْنِ أَبِى مَالك، ثَنَا أَصْحَابُنَا عَنْ أبِى عُبَيْدَةَ بنِ الْجَرَّاح: أنَّهُمْ عَادُوهُ وَهُوَ مَرِيضٌ فَسَأَلُوا كيْفَ بَاتَ؟ قَالَتْ امْرَأَتُه: بَاتَ مَأجُورًا، قَالَ: ما بِتُّ بأَجْرٍ ثُمَّ قالَ ألاَ تَسْأَلُنِى عَنْ كَلمتِى فَسَألُوهُ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ الله ﷺ يَقُولُ: مَنْ أَنْفَقَ نَفَقَةً (فاضلة) () في سَبِيِل الله فَسَبْعمَاية، وَمَنْ أَنْفَقَ عَلَى نَفْسِه وَأهْلِه أوْ مَازَ أذًى ( *)، أَوْ عَادَ مَرِيضًا فَالْحَسَنَةُ بِعَشْرِ أَمْثَالَها، مَا أَصَابَكَ في جَسَدِك فحطَة، وَالصّيَامُ جُنَّةٌ مَا لَمْ يَخْرِقْهَا".
