عَنْ أَنَسٍ قَالَ كَانَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فِي السُّوقِ فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ يَا أَبَا الْقَاسِمِ فَالْتَفَتَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَقَالَ دَعَوْتُ هَذَا فَقَالَ سَمُّوا بِاسْمِي وَلاَ تُكَنُّوا بِكُنْيَتِي
See hadith 837.
عَنْ أَنَسٍ قَالَ كَانَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فِي السُّوقِ فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ يَا أَبَا الْقَاسِمِ فَالْتَفَتَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَقَالَ دَعَوْتُ هَذَا فَقَالَ سَمُّوا بِاسْمِي وَلاَ تُكَنُّوا بِكُنْيَتِي
Abu Hurayra reported that the Prophet ﷺ said, "Name yourselves with my name, but do not use my kunya; I am Abu'l-Qasim."
عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ تَسَمُّوا بِاسْمِي وَلاَ تُكَنُّوا بِكُنْيَتِي فَإِنِّي أَنَا أَبُو الْقَاسِمِ
Anas ibn Malik said, "The Prophet ﷺ was in the market when a man said, 'Abu'l-Qasim!' The Prophet ﷺ turned towards him. He said, 'Messenger of Allah, I was calling this man.' The Prophet ﷺ said, 'Call yourselves with my name but do no use my kunya.'"
عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ قَالَ كَانَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فِي السُّوقِ فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ يَا أَبَا الْقَاسِمِ فَالْتَفَتَ إِلَيْهِ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّمَا دَعَوْتُ هَذَا فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ سَمُّوا بِاسْمِي وَلاَ تُكَنُّوا بِكُنْيَتِي
While the Prophet ﷺ was in the market, somebody, called, "O Abul-Qasim." The Prophet ﷺ turned to him. The man said, "I have called to this (i.e. another man)." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Name yourselves by my name but not by my Kunya (name)." (In Arabic world it is the custom to call the man as the father of his eldest son, e.g. Abul-Qasim.) كَانَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فِي السُّوقِ فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ يَا أَبَا الْقَاسِمِ فَالْتَفَتَ إِلَيْهِ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَقَالَ إِنَّمَا دَعَوْتُ هَذَا فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ سَمُّوا بِاسْمِي وَلاَ تَكَنَّوْا بِكُنْيَتِي
A man at Al-Baqi' called, "O Abul-Qasim!" The Prophet ﷺ turned to him and the man said (to the Prophet ), "I did not intend to call you." The prophet said, "Name yourselves by my name but not by my Kunya (name).
عَنْ أَنَسٍ ؓ دَعَا رَجُلٌ بِالْبَقِيعِ يَا أَبَا الْقَاسِمِ فَالْتَفَتَ إِلَيْهِ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَقَالَ لَمْ أَعْنِكَ قَالَ سَمُّوا بِاسْمِي وَلاَ تَكْتَنُوا بِكُنْيَتِي
While the Prophet ﷺ was in the market, a man called (somebody), "O Abu-l-Qasim!' The Prophet ﷺ turned to him and said "Name yourselves after me but do not call yourselves by my Kuniya."
كَانَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فِي السُّوقِ فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ يَا أَبَا الْقَاسِمِ فَالْتَفَتَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَقَالَ سَمُّوا بِاسْمِي وَلاَ تَكْتَنُوا بِكُنْيَتِي
Abu-l-Qasim said, "Name yourselves after me, but do not call yourselves by my Kuniya."
أَبُو الْقَاسِمِ ﷺ سَمُّوا بِاسْمِي وَلاَ تَكْتَنُوا بِكُنْيَتِي
A man among us begot a boy whom he named Al-Qasim. The people said, "We will not call him (i.e., the father) by that Kuniya (Abu-l-Qasim) till we ask the Prophet ﷺ about it. The Prophet ﷺ said. "Name yourselves by my name, but do not call (yourselves) by my Kuniya."
وُلِدَ لِرَجُلٍ مِنَّا غُلاَمٌ فَسَمَّاهُ الْقَاسِمَ فَقَالُوا لاَ نَكْنِيهِ حَتَّى نَسْأَلَ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَقَالَ سَمُّوا بِاسْمِي وَلاَ تَكْتَنُوا بِكُنْيَتِي
Abu-l-Qasim (The Prophet) said, "Name yourselves by my name, but do not call yourselves by my Kuniya."
أَبُو الْقَاسِمِ ﷺ سَمُّوا بِاسْمِي وَلاَ تَكْتَنُوا بِكُنْيَتِي
Messenger of Allah, I did not mean you, but I called such and such (person), whereupon Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: You may call yourself by my name, but not by my kunya.
نَادَى رَجُلٌ رَجُلاً بِالْبَقِيعِ يَا أَبَا الْقَاسِمِ فَالْتَفَتَ إِلَيْهِ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنِّي لَمْ أَعْنِكَ إِنَّمَا دَعَوْتُ فُلاَنًا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ تَسَمَّوْا بِاسْمِي وَلاَ تَكَنَّوْا بِكُنْيَتِي
"Abul Qasim ﷺ said: 'Call yourselves by my name but do not call yourselves by my Kunyah."
أَبُو الْقَاسِمِ ﷺ تَسَمَّوْا بِاسْمِي وَلاَ تَكَنَّوْا بِكُنْيَتِي
"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was in Baqi', and a man called out to another man: 'O Abul-Qasim!' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ turned to him, and he said: 'I didn't mean you.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Call yourselves by my name but do not call yourselves by my Kunyah.'"
كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ بِالْبَقِيعِ فَنَادَى رَجُلٌ رَجُلاً يَا أَبَا الْقَاسِمِ فَالْتَفَتَ إِلَيْهِ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ إِنِّي لَمْ أَعْنِكَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ تَسَمَّوْا بِاسْمِي وَلاَ تَكْتَنُوا بِكُنْيَتِي
"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was in Baqi', and a man called out to another man: 'O Abul-Qasim!' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ turned to him, and he said: 'I didn't mean you.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Call yourselves by my name but do not call yourselves by my Kunyah.'" (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 3737)
أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ كَانَ بِالْبَقِيعِ فَنَادَى رَجُلٌ يَا أَبَا الْقَاسِمِ فَالْتَفَتَ إِلَيْهِ فَقَالَ لَمْ أَعْنِكَ قَالَ تَسَمَّوْا بِاسْمِي وَلَا تَكَنَّوْا بِكُنْيَتِي
[AI] "A man called another man in the market and said, 'O Abu Al-Qasim.' The Prophet (PBUH) turned around and the man said, 'I was only calling another man.' The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, 'Use my name and do not use my title.'"
إِنَّ رَجُلًا دَعَا رَجُلًا فِي السُّوقِ فَقَالَ يَا أَبَا الْقَاسِمِ فَالْتَفَتَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَقَالَ الرَّجُلُ إِنَّمَا دَعَوْتُ رَجُلًا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ تَسَمَّوْا بِاسْمِي وَلَا تَكَنَّوْا بِكُنْيَتِي
Messenger of Allah, I did not mean you, but I called such and such (person), whereupon Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: You may call yourself by my name, but not by my kunya. (Using translation from Muslim 2131)
نَادَى رَجُلٌ يَا أَبَا الْقَاسِمِ فَالْتَفَتَ إِلَيْهِ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ لَمْ أَعْنِكَ إِنَّمَا دَعَوْتُ فُلَانًا قَالَ تَسَمَّوْا بِاسْمِي وَلَا تَكَنَّوْا بِكُنْيَتِي
[AI] "The Prophet ﷺ was standing in Al-Baqi' when he called out to another man, saying, 'O Abu Al-Qasim!' The Prophet ﷺ turned and said, 'Was it not you whom I called, O Messenger of Allah?' The Prophet ﷺ replied, 'Refer to me by my name and do not use my kunya (father-of-name) as a form of address.'"
أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ كَانَ قَائِمًا بِالْبَقِيعِ فَنَادَى رَجُلٌ آخَرُ يَا أَبَا الْقَاسِمِ فَالْتَفَتَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَقَالَ لَمْ أَعْنِكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّمَا دَعَوْتُ فُلَانًا فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «تَسَمَّوْا بِاسْمِي وَلَا تَكَنَّوْا بِكُنْيَتِي»
أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ كَانَ فِي بَعْضِ سِكَكِ الْمَدِينَةِ فَسَمِعَ رَجُلا يَقُولُ يَا أَبَا الْقَاسِمِ فَالْتَفَتَ النَّبِيّ ﷺ فَقَالَ لَمْ أَعْنِكَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ تَسَمَّوْا بِاسْمِي ولاَ تَكَنَّوْا بِكُنْيَتِي
[AI] Anas said, a man called out at al-Baqi (the cemetery), "O Aba al-Qasim", so the Messenger of Allah turned to him and said, "O Messenger of Allah, I did not call you, I was referring to so-and-so." He (the Messenger of Allah) said, "Call me by my name and do not use my nickname."
قَالَ أَنَسٌ نَادَى رَجُلٌ بِالْبَقِيعِ يَا أَبَا الْقَاسِمِ فَالْتَفَتَ إِلَيْهِ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ لَمْ أَعْنِكَ إِنَّمَا عَنَيْتُ فُلَانًا فَقَالَ سَمُّوا بِاسْمِي وَلَا تَكْتَنُوا بِكُنْيَتِي
