The Prophet ﷺ decided to grant a portion of (the uncultivated land of) Bahrain to the Ansar. The Ansar said, "(We will not accept it) till you give a similar portion to our emigrant brothers (from Quraish)." He said, "(O Ansar!) You will soon see people giving preference to others, so remain patient till you meet me (on the Day of Resurrection).

أَرَادَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ أَنْ يُقْطِعَ مِنَ الْبَحْرَيْنِ فَقَالَتِ الأَنْصَارُ حَتَّى تُقْطِعَ لإِخْوَانِنَا مِنَ الْمُهَاجِرِينَ مِثْلَ الَّذِي تُقْطِعُ لَنَا قَالَ سَتَرَوْنَ بَعْدِي أَثَرَةً فَاصْبِرُوا حَتَّى تَلْقَوْنِي

The Prophet ﷺ called the Ansar so as to grant them a portion of (the land of) Bahrain. They said, "O Messenger of Allah ! If you grant this to is, write a similar document on our Quraish (emigrant) brothers." But the Prophet ﷺ did not have enough grants and he said: "After me you will see the people giving preference (to others), so be patient till you meet me."

عَنْ أَنَسٍ ؓ دَعَا النَّبِيُّ ﷺ الأَنْصَارَ لِيُقْطِعَ لَهُمْ بِالْبَحْرَيْنِ فَقَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنْ فَعَلْتَ فَاكْتُبْ لإِخْوَانِنَا مِنْ قُرَيْشٍ بِمِثْلِهَا فَلَمْ يَكُنْ ذَلِكَ عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَ إِنَّكُمْ سَتَرَوْنَ بَعْدِي أَثَرَةً فَاصْبِرُوا حَتَّى تَلْقَوْنِي

Once the Prophet ﷺ called the Ansar in order to grant them part of the land of Bahrain. On that they said, "No! By Allah, we will not accept it unless you grant a similar thing to our Quarries brothers as well." He said, "That will be their's if Allah wishes." But when the Ansar persisted in their request, he said, "After me you will see others given preference over you in this respect (in which case) you should be patient till you meet me at the Tank (of Al-Kauthar).

دَعَا النَّبِيُّ ﷺ الأَنْصَارَ لِيَكْتُبَ لَهُمْ بِالْبَحْرَيْنِ فَقَالُوا لاَ وَاللَّهِ حَتَّى تَكْتُبَ لإِخْوَانِنَا مِنْ قُرَيْشٍ بِمِثْلِهَا فَقَالَ ذَاكَ لَهُمْ مَا شَاءَ اللَّهُ عَلَى ذَلِكَ يَقُولُونَ لَهُ قَالَ فَإِنَّكُمْ سَتَرَوْنَ بَعْدِي أُثْرَةً فَاصْبِرُوا حَتَّى تَلْقَوْنِي عَلَى الْحَوْضِ

That he heard Anas bin Malik when he went with him to Al-Walid, saying, "Once the Prophet ﷺ called the Ansar in order to give them the territory of Bahrain they said, 'No, unless you give to our emigrant brethren a similar share.' On that he said 'If you do not agree to it, then be patient till you meet me, for after me others will be given preference to you."'

دَعَا النَّبِيُّ ﷺ الأَنْصَارَ إِلَى أَنْ يُقْطِعَ لَهُمُ الْبَحْرَيْنِ فَقَالُوا لاَ إِلاَّ أَنْ تُقْطِعَ لإِخْوَانِنَا مِنَ الْمُهَاجِرِينَ مِثْلَهَا قَالَ إِمَّا لاَ فَاصْبِرُوا حَتَّى تَلْقَوْنِي فَإِنَّهُ سَيُصِيبُكُمْ بَعْدِي أُثْرَةٌ

[AI] He heard from Anas that the Prophet ﷺ called the Ansar to split the two seas for them, but they said no until the same is done for our brothers from the Muhajireen like us. So he said, "Indeed, you will meet me afterwards, so be patient until you meet me."

سَمِعَ مِنْ أَنَسٍ يَقُولُ دَعَا النَّبِيُّ ﷺ الْأَنْصَارَ لِيُقْطِعَ لَهُمُ الْبَحْرَيْنِ فَقَالُوا لَا حَتَّى تُقْطِعَ لِإِخْوَانِنَا مِنَ الْمُهَاجِرِينَ مِثْلَنَا فَقَالَ إِنَّكُمْ سَتَلْقَوْنَ بَعْدِي أَثَرَةً فَاصْبِرُوا حَتَّى تَلْقَوْنِي

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ invited us to write to him from Bahrain. We said, "Only if you write the same for our brothers from the Muhajireen." He said, "Indeed, you will meet hardships after me, so be patient until you meet me." They said, "Indeed, we will be patient."

دَعَانَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ لِيَكْتُبَ لَنَا بِالْبَحْرَيْنِ قَطِيعَةً قَالَ فَقُلْنَا لَا إِلَّا أَنْ تَكْتُبَ لِإِخْوَانِنَا مِنَ الْمُهَاجِرِينَ مِثْلَهَا فَقَالَ إِنَّكُمْ سَتَلْقَوْنَ بَعْدِي أَثَرَةً فَاصْبِرُوا حَتَّى تَلْقَوْنِي قَالُوا فَإِنَّا نَصْبِرُ

[AI] The Prophet ﷺ wanted to write a book for the people from the Ansar to the people of Bahrain. They said that he should also write a similar book for our brothers from the Muhajirin (migrants). So he called them and they refused. He said, "Verily, you will see after me calamities, so be patient until you meet me."

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ أَرَادَ أَنْ يَكْتُبَ كِتَابًا لِنَاسٍ مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ إِلَى الْبَحْرَيْنِ فَقَالُوا لَا إِلَّا أَنْ تَكْتُبَ لِإِخْوَانِنَا مِنَ الْمُهَاجِرِينَ مِثْلَهَا فَدَعَاهُمْ فَأَبَوْا قَالَ أَمَا إِنَّكُمْ سَتَرَوْنَ بَعْدِي أَثَرَةً فَاصْبِرُوا حَتَّى تَلْقَوْنِي

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ wanted to write to the Ansar in Bahrain, but they said, "No, not until you write for our companions from Quraysh the same." He said, "You will meet me at the Hawd, so be patient until you meet me there."

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَرَادَ أَنْ يَكْتُبَ لِلْأَنْصَارِ بِالْبَحْرَيْنِ فَقَالُوا لَا حَتَّى تَكْتُبَ لِأَصْحَابِنَا مِنْ قُرَيْشٍ مِثْلَ ذَلِكَ قَالَ «إِنَّكُمْ سَتَلْقَوْنَ بَعْدِي أَثَرَةً فَاصْبِرُوا حَتَّى تَلْقَوْنِي عَلَى الْحَوْضِ»

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ once visited the Anṣār tribe of Bahrain or a group among them. They said, "Do not cut off our brothers among the Muhājirīn (those who migrated from Mecca to Medina) like you cut off us." He said, "Indeed, you will meet me after my departure, so be patient until you meet me."

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَقْطَعَ الْأَنْصَارَ الْبَحْرَيْنِ أَوْ قَالَ طَائِفَةً مِنْهَا فَقَالُوا لَا حَتَّى تُقْطِعَ إِخْوَانَنَا مِنَ الْمُهَاجِرِينَ مِثْلَ الَّذِي أَقْطَعْتَنَا قَالَ «أَمَا إِنَّكُمْ سَتَلْقَوْنَ بَعْدِي أَثَرَةً فَاصْبِرُوا حَتَّى تَلْقَوْنِي»

[AI] Abu Abdullah Al-Hafiz informed us that Abu Abdullah Al-Saffar told us that Ismail ibn Ishaq told us that Sulaiman ibn Harb told us that Hammad ibn Zaid told us that Yahya ibn Sa'id said: "I heard Anas ibn Malik narrating that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ gathered the Ansar and asked them to divide the two seas for them. They replied, 'No, not until you divide like you have divided us for our brothers from the Muhajirun.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Indeed, you will soon see the results after me; so be patient until you meet me.'"

أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ أنبأ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الصَّفَّارُ ثنا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ ثنا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ثنا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ يُحَدِّثُ قَالَ دَعَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ الْأَنْصَارَ لِيُقْطِعَ لَهُمُ الْبَحْرَيْنَ فَقَالُوا لَا حَتَّى تُقْطِعَ لِإخْوَانِنَا مِنَ الْمُهَاجِرِينَ مِثْلَ الَّذِي تُقْطِعُنَا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ أَمَا إِنَّكُمْ سَتَرَوْنَ بَعْدِي أَثَرَةً؛ فَاصْبِرُوا حَتَّى تَلْقَوْنِي

[AI] I heard Anas saying that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ called the Ansar to write a letter for them to Bahrain. They said, "No, by Allah, not until you write a letter for our brothers from Quraysh with the same content." He said to them, "That is what Allah wills. All of that, they say. He said, 'After me, you will see the consequence, so be patient until you meet me."

سَمِعْتُ أَنَسًا يَقُولُ دَعَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ الْأَنْصَارَ لِيَكْتُبَ لَهُمْ إِلَى الْبَحْرَيْنِ فَقَالُوا لَا وَاللهِ حَتَّى تَكْتُبَ لِإِخْوَانِنَا مِنْ قُرَيْشٍ بِمِثْلِهَا فَقَالَ لَهُمْ ذَلِكَ مَا شَاءَ اللهُ كُلُّ ذَلِكَ يَقُولُونَ ذَلِكَ قَالَ فَإِنَّكُمْ سَتَرَوْنَ بَعْدِي أَثَرَةً؛ فَاصْبِرُوا حَتَّى تَلْقَوْنِي

[AI] Narrated that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ conquered Al-Bahrain and wanted to write a letter to them. They said, "No, not until you give our brothers from Quraysh something like it." So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Indeed, you will see after me difficulty, so be patient until you meet me."

فَحَدَّثَنَا أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ أَقْطَعَ الْأَنْصَارَ الْبَحْرَيْنِ وَأَرَادَ أَنْ يَكْتُبَ لَهُمْ بِهَا كِتَابًا فَقَالُوا لَا حَتَّى تُعْطِيَ إِخْوَانَنَا مِنْ قُرَيْشٍ مِثْلَهَا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِنَّكُمْ سَتَرَوْنَ بَعْدِي أَثَرَةً فَاصْبِرُوا حَتَّى تَلْقَوْنِي
