I asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ: What is lawful for a man to do with his wife when she is menstruating? He replied: What is above the waist-wrapper, but it is better to abstain from it, too. Abu Dawud said: This (tradition) is not strong.

سَأَلْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَمَّا يَحِلُّ لِلرَّجُلِ مِنَ امْرَأَتِهِ وَهِيَ حَائِضٌ قَالَ فَقَالَ مَا فَوْقَ الإِزَارِ وَالتَّعَفُّفُ عَنْ ذَلِكَ أَفْضَلُ

[AI] A man asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , "What is permissible for me to do with my wife while she is menstruating?" He replied, "Cover her with a cloth and do whatever you would normally do with her except for intercourse."

سَأَلَ رَجُلٌ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ مَا يَحِلُّ لِي مِنَ امْرَأَتِي وَهِيَ حَائِضٌ؟ قَالَ «لِتَشُدَّ عَلَيْهَا إِزَارَهَا ثُمَّ شَأْنَكَ بِأَعْلَاهَا»

Yahya related to me from Malik from Zayd ibn Aslam that a man questioned the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, "What is permitted me from my wife when she is menstruating?" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Let her wrap her waist-wrapper round herself tightly, and then what is above that is your concern."

أَنَّ رَجُلاً سَأَلَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ مَا يَحِلُّ لِي مِنِ امْرَأَتِي وَهِيَ حَائِضٌ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ لِتَشُدَّ عَلَيْهَا إِزَارَهَا ثُمَّ شَأْنَكَ بِأَعْلاَهَا

[AI] "O Messenger of Allah, what should I do if my wife is having her menstrual cycle?" He replied, "Tie a waist-wrapper around her, then carry on with your affairs."

يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ مَا لِي مِنِ امْرَأَتِي وَهِيَ حَائِضٌ؟ قَالَ «تَشُدُّ إِزَارَهَا ثُمَّ شَأْنَكَ بِهَا»

[AI] A man asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , "What can I do with my wife when she is on her period?" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied, "Cover her with a cloth and have relations with her from behind." This hadith is reported in Sahih al-Bukhari.

"حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ العَزِيزِ، عَنْ صَفْوَانَ بْنِ سُلَيْمٍ، عَنْ عَطَاء بْنِ يَسَارٍ قَالَ: قَالَ رَجُلٌ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ! مَا يَحِلُّ لِى مِنَ امْرَأَتِى وَهِى حَائضٌ؟ قَالَ: تَشُدُّ إِزَارَهَا، ثُمَّ شَأنك بِمَا عَلَاهَا
