21. Marriage
٢١۔ كِتَابُ النِّكَاحِ
"I got married to Fatimah, may Allah be pleased with her, and I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, let me consummate the marriage.' He said: 'Give her something.' I said: 'I do not have anything.' He said: 'Where is your Hutami armor?' I said: 'It is with me.' He said: 'Give it to her.'" (Using translation from Nasāʾī 3375)
تَزَوَّجْتُ فَاطِمَةَ فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ ابْنِ لِي قَالَ «أَعْطِهَا شَيْئًا» قَالَ مَا عِنْدِي شَيْءٌ قَالَ «فَأَيْنَ دِرْعُكَ الْحُطَمِيَّةُ؟» قُلْتُ عِنْدِي قَالَ «فَأَعْطِهَا إِيَّاهُ» خَالَفَهُ سَعِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي عَرُوبَةَ
When Ali married Fatimah, the Prophet ﷺ said to him: Give her something. He said: I have nothing with me. He said: Where is your Hutamiyyah (coat of mail). (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 2125)
لَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «أَعْطِهَا شَيْئًا» قَالَ مَا عِنْدِي شَيْءٌ قَالَ «فَأَيْنَ دِرْعُكَ الْحُطَمِيَّةُ؟»
