10. Book of Funerals (2/7)
[Machine] "Some women from the Ansar said to him (the Prophet ﷺ): 'O Messenger of Allah, we are unable to come to you with the men.' So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Your appointment is in the house of so-and-so.' He went there and spoke to them, then he said: 'None of you should have three children without considering himself destined for Paradise.' A woman among them said: 'And two, O Messenger of Allah?' He replied: 'And two.'"
"No Muslim, three of whose children die, will be touched by the Fire, except in fulfillment of the (Divine) oath." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 1875)
[Machine] From the Messenger of Allahﷺ it was said, "Whoever perseveres through three hardships, will enter Paradise."
[Machine] "O Messenger of Allah, women have surpassed men in their behavior, so make for us a day that they have promised and they will come, and admonish them." So he said to them in response, "There is no woman out of you who raises three of her children except they will be a shield for her from the Fire." A woman asked, "O Messenger of Allah, what about two? And she has lost two." The Prophet ﷺ replied, "And two."
"There is no man whose two daughters reach the age of puberty and he treats them kindly for the time they are together, but they will gain him admittance to Paradise." (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 3670)
[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "Whoever has three children and they pass away, will enter paradise." They asked, "O Messenger of Allah, what about two sons?" He replied, "And two sons."
[Machine] A man came to the Prophet ﷺ with his sons and the Prophet ﷺ lost him. They said, "He has died, O Messenger of Allah." The Prophet ﷺ said to his father, "Are you not pleased that you would not come to any gate of Paradise except that you would find him waiting for you?"
[Machine] I buried my son, and with me was Abu Talhah Al-Khawlani, on the edge of the grave. When I intended to leave, he took my hand and brought me out and said, "Shall I not give you glad tidings?" Al-Dhahak ibn Abdul Rahman ibn Arzab narrated to me from Abu Musa Al-Ash'ari who said that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "When the child of a believer dies, Allah says to the angels, 'Have you taken the child of My servant?' They say, 'Yes.'"
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah (Peace be upon him) said, "Whoever is afflicted with a calamity should say, 'Indeed we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we will return. O Allah, I seek reward from You for my affliction and replace it with something better.' "
When Abu Salamah died, I said this supplication and every time I said it, I saw that Allah replaced my calamity with something better. I said to myself, "Who is better than Abu Salamah?"
When her waiting period ended, Abu Bakr proposed to her, but she did not marry him. Then Umar proposed to her, but she did not marry him either. Then the Messenger of Allah (Peace be upon him) sent Umar ibn Al-Khattab to propose to her on his behalf. She said, "Inform the Messenger of Allah (Peace be upon him) that I am a woman who is not interested in remarrying, and I am a woman who is already afflicted. And there is no witness among my guardians." So the Messenger of Allah (Peace be upon him) went to her and mentioned this to her. He said, "Tell her that when you say, 'I am a woman who is not interested in remarrying,' I ask Allah to remove your unwillingness. And when you say, 'I am a woman who is already afflicted,' may your children be sufficient for you. And when you say, 'There is no witness among my guardians,' no one among your guardians will be a witness, nor will anyone who is absent like that."
She said to her son, "O Umar, go and marry me to the Messenger of Allah (Peace be upon him)." So Umar married her to him. The Messenger of Allah (Peace be upon him) used to visit her in her room to be intimate with her. But when she saw him, she would take her daughter Zainab and put her in her place. The Messenger of Allah (Peace be upon him) noticed this, so Ammar ibn Yasir, who was her foster brother, came to her and said, "Where is that wickedness with which you have harmed the Messenger of Allah (Peace be upon him)?" He took her and went with her. The Messenger of Allah (Peace be upon him) came to her and entered her room, and he began to strike his forehead against the sides of the house, saying, "What did Zainab do?" She said, "Ammar came and took her away." So the Messenger of Allah (Peace be upon him) rebuilt the house for her and said, "I will not decrease your status from what I have given to other women, two Rahas (sheep) and two Dirhams, and a bone filled with stuffing as a headrest." And he said, "If I have seven wives, I will have the same for all of them."
Whom do you count as" Raqub" amongst you? They (his Companions) said: One who has no children (the children are born unto him but they do not survive). Thereupon he (the Holy Prophet) said: He is not a Raqub but Raqub is one who does not find his child as the forerunner (in Paradise). He then said: Whom do you count as a wrestler amongst you? We said: He who wrestles with persons. He said: No, it is not he but one who controls himself when in a fit of rage. (Using translation from Muslim 2608a)
[Machine] Shurahbil ibn Hasana, I accompanied the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and 'Amr is more misguided than the donkey or the camel of his people. He said, "Indeed, it is the mercy of your Lord and the supplication of your Prophet, and the death of the righteous before you, so gather around him and do not disperse from him."
[Machine] "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ mentioned the plague, and he said, 'It is a remnant of punishment that was sent upon a group from the Children of Israel. So if it appears in a land while you are there, do not flee from it, and if it occurs in a land while you are not there, do not enter it.'"

What have you heard from Messenger of Allah ﷺ about plague? Thereupon Usama said: Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Plague is a calamity which was sent to Bani Isra'il or upon those who were before you. So when you hear that it has broken out in a land, don't go to it, and when it has broken out in the land where you are, don't run out of it. In the narration transmitted on the authority of Abu Nadr there is a slight variation of wording. (Using translation from Muslim 2218a)
Umar b. Khattab set out for Syria. As he came at Sargh (a town by the side of Hijaz on the way to Syria), there met him the commander of the forces, Abu Ubaida b. Jandb, and his companions. They informed him that a scourge had broken out in Syria. Ibn 'Abbas further reported that 'Umar said: Call to me tile earliest emigrants. So I called them. He (Hadrat 'Umar) sought their advice, and they told him that the scourge had broker, out in Syria. There was a difference of opinion (whether they should proceed further or go back to their homes in such a situation). Some of them said: You ('Umar) have set forth for a task, and, therefore, we would not advise you to go back, whereas some of them said: You have along with you the remnants (of the sacred galaxy) of men and (the blessed) Companions of Messenger of Allah ﷺ, so we would not advise you to go forth towards this calamity (with such eminent persons and thus expose them deliberately to a danger). He (Hadrat 'Umar) said: You can now go away. He said: Call to me the Ansar. So I called them to him, and he consulted them, and they trod the same path as was trodden by the Muhajirin, and they differed in their opinions as they had differed. He said: Now, you can go. He again said: Call to me the old persons of the Quraish who had migrated before the Victory (that is the Victory of Mecca), so I called them (and Hadrat 'Umar consulted them) and not even two persons differed (from the opinion held by the earlier delegates). They said: Our opinion is that you better go back along with the people and do not make them go to this scourge, So 'Umar made announcement to the people: In the morning I would be on the back of my side. So they (set forth in the morning), whereupon Abu 'Ubaida b. Jarrah said: Are you going to run away from the Divine Decree? Thereupon 'Umar said: Had it been someone else to say this besides you! 'Umar (in fact) did not approve of his opposing (this decision) and he said: Yes, we are running from the Divine Decree (to the) Divine Decree. You should think if there had been camels for you and you happened to get down in a valley having two sides, one of them covered with verdure and the other being barren, would you not (be doing) according to the Divine Decree if you graze them in verdure? And in case you graze them in the barren land (even then you would be grazing them) according to the Divine Decree. There happened to come 'Abd al-Rahman b. 'Auf and he had been absent in connection with some of his needs. He said: I have with me a knowledge of it, that I heard Messenger of Allah ﷺ as saying: If you hear of its presence (the presence of plague) in a land, don't enter it, but if it spreads in the land where you are, don't fly from it. Thereupon 'Umar b. Khattab praised Allah and then went back? (Using translation from Muslim 2219a)

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever Allah grants sixty years of age, then he has been excused for his lifespan."
“The ages of (the people in) my nation will be between sixty and seventy, and few of them will exceed that.” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 4236)
[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: "Shall I not inform you of your best?" They said: "Yes, O Messenger of Allah." He said: "The best of you are those with the longest lives and the best of you in deeds."
[Machine] Two men from a tribe came to the Prophet ﷺ , and both of them embraced Islam. One of them was more dedicated and committed than the other. The more dedicated man participated in a battle and was martyred, while the other lived for a year, observed fasting in Ramadan, and then passed away. The Prophet ﷺ saw Talhah ibn Ubaydullah outside of paradise. He permitted the one who died after living longer to enter paradise first, then permitted the martyr to enter. The Prophet ﷺ returned to Talhah and said to him, "Go back, for it is not yet your time." Talhah then began telling people about what he had witnessed. The news reached the Prophet ﷺ , and he asked about it. When they explained the situation, the Prophet ﷺ said, "Didn't this man live for a year after the martyrdom of the other man?" They replied, "Yes."
That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Whoever develops some gray hair in the cause of Allah, it shall be a light for him in the Day of Judgement. (Using translation from Tirmidhī 1635)
"O Ka'b bin Murrah! Relate (something) to is from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and be cautious. He said: 'I heard the Prophet ﷺ say: "Whoever develops some gray hair in Islam, it shall be a light from him on the Day of Judgement." (Using translation from Tirmidhī 1634)
[Machine] The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said, "Do not pluck out gray hair, as it will be a light on the Day of Judgment. And whoever has gray hair in Islam, good deeds will be written for him because of it, and his sins will be forgiven through it, and he will be elevated in rank because of it."
There would be none amongst the created beings living on the earth (who would survive this century). (Using translation from Muslim 2539)
I heard Messenger of Allah ﷺ as saying this one month before his death: You asked me about the Last Hour whereas its knowledge is with Allah. I, however, take an oath and say that none upon the earth, the created beings (from amongst my Companions), would survive at the end of one hundred years. (Using translation from Muslim 2538a)
[Machine] On the authority of the Prophet ﷺ who said: "You ask me about the Hour (i.e., Day of Judgment), while my soul is in the Hand of Allah, there is no soul on Earth that is more knowledgeable about when the Hour will happen than a hundred years."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed the night prayer in the last days of his life, and when he finished, he stood up and said, "Did you see this night of yours? Verily, after one hundred years, none of those who are on the face of the earth will remain."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "There is no one among you whose soul passes through a hundred years while they are still alive."
