When al-Hasan was born, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came and said: “Show me my son; what did you name him?ʿ I said: I named him Harb [which means ʿwarʿ]. He said: ʿRather he is Hasan.” When al-Husain was born, he said: ʿShow me my son; what did you name him?ʿ I said: I named him Harb, He said: ʿRather he is Husain.” When the third one was born, the Prophet ﷺ said: ʿShow me my son; what did you name him?ʿ I said: Harb, He said: “Rather. he is Muhassin.” Then he said: “I have named them after the fashion of the sons of Haroon, Shabbar and Shabeer and Mushabbir.”

لَمَّا وُلِدَ الْحَسَنُ جَاءَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ أَرُونِي ابْنِي مَا سَمَّيْتُمُوهُ؟ قُلْتُ سَمَّيْتُهُ حَرْبًا قَالَ بَلْ هُوَ حَسَنٌ فَلَمَّا وُلِدَ الْحُسَيْنُ قَالَ أَرُونِي ابْنِي مَا سَمَّيْتُمُوهُ؟ قُلْتُ سَمَّيْتُهُ حَرْبًا قَالَ بَلْ هُوَ حُسَيْنٌ فَلَمَّا وَلَدْتُ الثَّالِثَ جَاءَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَقَالَ أَرُونِي ابْنِي مَا سَمَّيْتُمُوهُ؟ قُلْتُ حَرْبًا قَالَ بَلْ هُوَ مُحَسِّنٌ ثُمَّ قَالَ سَمَّيْتُهُمْ بِأَسْمَاءِ وَلَدِ هَارُونَ شَبَّرُ وَشَبِيرُ وَمُشَبِّرُ

لَمَّا وُلِدَ الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ رَضِيَ اللهُ عنْهُ جَاءَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ «أَرُونِي ابْنِي مَا سَمَّيْتُمُوهُ؟» قُلْتُ سَمَّيْتُهُ حَرْبًا قَالَ «بَلْ هُوَ حَسَنٌ» فَلَمَّا وُلِدَ الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ ؓ جَاءَ فَقَالَ مِثْلَ قَوْلِهِ فَقُلْتُ سَمَّيْتُهُ حَرْبًا فَقَالَ «بَلْ هُوَ حُسَيْنٌ» فَلَمَّا وَلَدَتِ الثَّالِثَ جَاءَ فَقَالَ مِثْلَ قَوْلِهِ فَقُلْتُ سَمَّيْتُهُ حَرْبًا فَقَالَ «بَلْ هُوَ مُحَسِّنٌ» ثُمَّ قَالَ «سَمَّيْتُهُمْ بِوَلَدِ هَارُونَ شَبَرَ وَشُبَيْرَ وَمُشَبِّرَ»

[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ asked me, "What have you named your son?" I replied, "Harb." The Prophet ﷺ said, "No, he is Hasan." Then when Husayn was born, I named him Harb. The Prophet ﷺ asked me, "What have you named your son?" I replied, "Harb." He said, "No, he is Husayn." Then when Muhsin was born, the Prophet ﷺ asked, "What have you named your son?" I replied, "Harb." He said, "No, he is Muhsin." Then the Prophet ﷺ said, "Indeed, I have named my sons with the names of the sons of Harun, their names are Shabbar and Mushabbir." This is a saying of Yunus and in another narration of Israel.

لِيَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ مَا سَمَّيْتَ ابْنِي؟ فَقُلْتُ حَرْبًا قَالَ هُوَ الْحَسَنُ فَلَمَّا وُلِدَ الْحُسَيْنُ سَمَّيْتُهُ حَرْبًا فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ مَا سَمَّيْتَ ابْنِي؟ قُلْتُ حَرْبًا قَالَ هُوَ الْحُسَيْنُ فَلَمَّا وُلِدَ مُحْسِنٌ قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ مَا سَمَّيْتَ ابْنِي؟ قُلْتُ حَرْبًا قَالَ هُوَ مُحْسِنٌ ثُمَّ قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ إِنِّي سَمَّيْتُ بَنِيَّ هَؤُلَاءِ بِتَسْمِيَةِ هَارُونَ بَنِيهِ شَبَّرُ وَشَبِيرُ وَمُشَبَّرُ لَفْظُ حَدِيثِ يُونُسَ وَفِي رِوَايَةِ إِسْرَائِيلَ أَرُونِي ابْنِي مَا سَمَّيْتُمُوهُ وَالْبَاقِي بِمَعْنَاهُ

" عَنْ عَلِىٍّ قَالَ: لما وُلِدَ الحسنُ سميتُهُ حربًا فجاء النبىُّ ﷺ فقالَ: أروُنِى ابنى ما سمَّيْتمُوهُ؟ قلتُ: سَميتُهُ حربًا فقالَ: بل هو حَسَنٌ، فلما وُلِدَ حسينٌ سميتُه حربًا، فجاءَ رسولُ الله ﷺ فقال: أَروُنِى ابنى ما سمَّيْتُموهُ؟ قلتُ: سَميتُهُ حربًا، فقالَ: بل هو حُسَينٌ، فلما وُلِدَ مُحْسِنٌ سميتُه حربًا، فجاءَ النبىُّ ﷺ فقالَ: أَروُنِى ابنى ما سَمَّيْتُمُوهُ؟ فقلتُ: سَميتُهُ حربًا، فقالَ: بل هو مُحْسِنٌ، ثم قال: إنِّى سميتهُمْ بأَسماَءِ وَلَدِ هَارُونَ: شَبَّرٌ وَشَبِيرٌ، ومُشبَّرٌ ".

"لمَّا وُلِدَ الحَسَنُ سَمَّيْتُهُ حَرْبًا، فَجَاءَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ: أَرُونِى ابْنِى، مَا سَمَّيْتُمُوهُ؟ قُلْتُ: سَمَّيْتُهُ حَرْبًا، قَالَ: بَلْ هُوَ حَسَنٌ، فَلَمَّا وُلِدَ الحُسَيْنُ سَمَّيْتُهُ حَربًا، فَجَاءَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ: ائتُونِى بِابْنِى، مَا سَمَّيْتُمُوهُ؟ قُلْتُ: سَمَّيْتُهُ حَرْبًا، فَقَالَ: بَلْ هُوَ حُسيْنٌ، فَلَمَّا وُلِدَ الثَّالِثُ سَمَّيْتُهُ حَرْبًا، فَجَاءَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ: أَرُونِى ابْنِى مَا سَمَّيْتُمُوهُ؟ فَقُلْتُ: سَمَّيْتُهُ حَرْبًا، فَقَالَ: بَلْ هُوَ مُحْسِنٌ، ثُمَّ قَالَ: إِنِى سَمَّيْتُهُمْ بِأَسْمَاءِ وَلَدِ هَارُونَ شبرًا وشبيرًا ومشبرًا (* *) ".
