It was narrated from Jabir that whenever the Prophet ﷺ ascended the pulpit he would greet (the people with Salam). (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 1109)   

البيهقي:٥٧٤١ – أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ أنبا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ أنبأ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ثنا عَمْرُو بْنُ خَالِدٍ ثنا ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ زَيْدِ بْنِ الْمُهَاجِرِ يَعْنِي ابْنَ قُنْفُذٍ التَّيْمِيَّ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْمُنْكَدِرِ عَنْ جَابِرٍ قَالَ

كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِذَا صَعِدَ الْمِنْبَرَ سَلَّمَ
