That ʿAisha the wife of the Prophet ﷺ told her uncle that once, while the Prophet ﷺ was in her house, she heard a man asking Hafsa's permission to enter her house. ʿAisha said, "I said, 'O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! I think the man is Hafsa's foster uncle.' " ʿAisha added, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! There is a man asking the permission to enter your house." Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied, "I think the man is Hafsa's foster uncle." ʿAisha said, "If so-and-so were living (i.e. her foster uncle) would he be allowed to visit me?" Allah's Apostle said, "Yes, he would, as the foster relations are treated like blood relations (in marital affairs).  

أَنَّ عَائِشَةَ ؓ زَوْجَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ أَخْبَرَتْهَا أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ كَانَ عِنْدَهَا وَأَنَّهَا سَمِعَتْ صَوْتَ رَجُلٍ يَسْتَأْذِنُ فِي بَيْتِ حَفْصَةَ قَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أُرَاهُ فُلاَنًا لِعَمِّ حَفْصَةَ مِنَ الرَّضَاعَةِ فَقَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ هَذَا رَجُلٌ يَسْتَأْذِنُ فِي بَيْتِكَ قَالَتْ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ أُرَاهُ فُلاَنًا لِعَمِّ حَفْصَةَ مِنَ الرَّضَاعَةِ فَقَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ لَوْ كَانَ فُلاَنٌ حَيًّا لِعَمِّهَا مِنَ الرَّضَاعَةِ دَخَلَ عَلَىَّ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ نَعَمْ إِنَّ الرَّضَاعَةَ تُحَرِّمُ مَا يَحْرُمُ مِنَ الْوِلاَدَةِ  

(the wife of the Prophet) that while Messenger of Allah ﷺ was with her, she heard a voice of a man asking permission to enter the house of Hafsa. ʿAisha added: I said, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! This man is asking permission to enter your house." The Prophet ﷺ said, "I think he is so-and-so," naming the foster-uncle of Hafsa. ʿAisha said, "If so-and-so," naming her foster uncle, "were living, could he enter upon me?" The Prophet ﷺ said, "Yes, for foster suckling relations make all those things unlawful which are unlawful through corresponding birth (blood) relations."  

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ كَانَ عِنْدَهَا وَأَنَّهَا سَمِعَتْ صَوْتَ رَجُلٍ يَسْتَأْذِنُ فِي بَيْتِ حَفْصَةَ قَالَتْ فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ هَذَا رَجُلٌ يَسْتَأْذِنُ فِي بَيْتِكَ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ أُرَاهُ فُلاَنًا لِعَمِّ حَفْصَةَ مِنَ الرَّضَاعَةِ قَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ لَوْ كَانَ فُلاَنٌ حَيًّا لِعَمِّهَا مِنَ الرَّضَاعَةِ دَخَلَ عَلَىَّ فَقَالَ نَعَمِ الرَّضَاعَةُ تُحَرِّمُ مَا تُحَرِّمُ الْوِلاَدَةُ  

Messenger of Allah, he is the person who seeks permission to enter your house, whereupon Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: I think he is so and so (uncle of Hafsa by reason of fosterage). 'A'isha said: Messenger of Allah, if so and so (her uncle by reason of fosterage) were alive, could he enter my house? Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Yes. Fosterage makes unlawful what consanguinity makes unlawful.  

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ كَانَ عِنْدَهَا وَإِنَّهَا سَمِعَتْ صَوْتَ رَجُلٍ يَسْتَأْذِنُ فِي بَيْتِ حَفْصَةَ قَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ هَذَا رَجُلٌ يَسْتَأْذِنُ فِي بَيْتِكَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ أُرَاهُ فُلاَنًا لِعَمِّ حَفْصَةَ مِنَ الرَّضَاعَةِ فَقَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ لَوْ كَانَ فُلاَنٌ حَيًّا لِعَمِّهَا مِنَ الرَّضَاعَةِ دَخَلَ عَلَىَّ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ نَعَمْ إِنَّ الرَّضَاعَةَ تُحَرِّمُ مَا تُحَرِّمُ الْوِلاَدَةُ  

"I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, there is a man asking permission to enter your house.' The Messenger of Allah said: 'I think it is so-and-so the paternal uncle of Hafsah through breast-feeding.' 'Aishah said: If so-and-so (her own paternal uncle through breast-feeding) were alive, would he be allowed to enter upon me?' The Messenger of Allah said: 'What becomes unlawful (for marriage) through breast-feeding is that which becomes unlawful through birth.'"  

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ كَانَ عِنْدَهَا وَأَنَّهَا سَمِعَتْ رَجُلاً يَسْتَأْذِنُ فِي بَيْتِ حَفْصَةَ قَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ هَذَا رَجُلٌ يَسْتَأْذِنُ فِي بَيْتِكَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ أُرَاهُ فُلاَنًا لِعَمِّ حَفْصَةَ مِنَ الرَّضَاعَةِ قَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ فَقُلْتُ لَوْ كَانَ فُلاَنٌ حَيًّا لِعَمِّهَا مِنَ الرَّضَاعَةِ دَخَلَ عَلَىَّ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِنَّ الرَّضَاعَةَ تُحَرِّمُ مَا يُحَرَّمُ مِنَ الْوِلاَدَةِ  

Yahya related to me from Malik from Abdullah ibn Abi Bakr from Amra bint Abd ar-Rahman that A'isha, umm al-muminin informed her that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was with her and she heard the voice of a man asking permission to enter the room of Hafsa. A'isha said that she had said, "Messenger of Allah! There is a man asking permission to enter your house!" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "I think it is so-and-so" (referring to a paternal uncle of Hafsa by suckling). A'isha said, "Messenger of Allah! If so-and-so were alive (referring to her paternal uncle by suckling) could he enter where I am?" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Yes. Suckling makes haram as birth makes haram."  

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ كَانَ عِنْدَهَا وَأَنَّهَا سَمِعَتْ صَوْتَ رَجُلٍ يَسْتَأْذِنُ فِي بَيْتِ حَفْصَةَ قَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ هَذَا رَجُلٌ يَسْتَأْذِنُ فِي بَيْتِكَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ أُرَاهُ فُلاَنًا لِعَمٍّ لِحَفْصَةَ مِنَ الرَّضَاعَةِ فَقَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ لَوْ كَانَ فُلاَنٌ حَيًّا لِعَمِّهَا مِنَ الرَّضَاعَةِ دَخَلَ عَلَىَّ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ نَعَمْ إِنَّ الرَّضَاعَةَ تُحَرِّمُ مَا تُحَرِّمُ الْوِلاَدَةُ  

"I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, there is a man asking permission to enter your house.' The Messenger of Allah said: 'I think it is so-and-so the paternal uncle of Hafsah through breast-feeding.' 'Aishah said: If so-and-so (her own paternal uncle through breast-feeding) were alive, would he be allowed to enter upon me?' أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ كَانَ عِنْدَهَا وَأَنَّهَا سَمِعَتْ صَوْتَ رَجُلٍ يَسْتَأْذِنُ فِي بَيْتِ حَفْصَةَ قَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ هَذَا رَجُلٌ يَسْتَأْذِنُ فِي بَيْتِكَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ أُرَاهُ فُلَانًا لِعَمٍّ لِحَفْصَةَ مِنَ الرَّضَاعَةِ فَقَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِلَوْ كَانَ فُلَانٌ حَيًّا لِعَمِّهَا مِنَ الرَّضَاعَةِ دَخَلَ عَلَيَّ؟ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ نَعَمْ إِنَّ الرَّضَاعَةَ تُحَرِّمُ مَا تُحَرِّمُ الْوِلَادَةُ  

(the wife of the Prophet) that while Messenger of Allah ﷺ was with her, she heard a voice of a man asking permission to enter the house of Hafsa. ʿAisha added: I said, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ كَانَ عِنْدَهَا وَأَنَّهَا سَمِعَتْ صَوْتَ رَجُلٍ يَسْتَأْذِنُ فِي بَيْتِ حَفْصَةَ فَقَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ هَذَا رَجُلٌ يَسْتَأْذِنُ فِي بَيْتِكَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «أَرَاهُ فُلَانًا لِعَمِّ حَفْصَةَ مِنَ الرَّضَاعَةِ» قَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ لَوْ كَانَ فُلَانٌ حَيًّا لِعَمِّهَا مِنَ الرَّضَاعَةِ دَخَلَ عَلَيَّ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «إِنَّ الرَّضَاعَةَ تُحَرِّمُ مَا تُحَرِّمُ الْوِلَادَةُ»  

[Machine] She had with her and that she heard the voice of a man seeking permission in the house of Hafsah, so Aisha said, "O Messenger of Allah, there is a man seeking permission in your house." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Do I see him as a foster brother of Hafsah from breastfeeding?" So I said, "O Messenger of Allah, if he is a foster brother of hers from breastfeeding, can he enter upon me while she is alive?" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Yes, breastfeeding prohibits what childbirth prohibits." This is the wording of the Hadith reported by Ash-Shafi'i.  

ﷺ كَانَ عِنْدَهَا وَأَنَّهَا سَمِعَتْ صَوْتَ رَجُلٍ يَسْتَأْذِنُ فِي بَيْتِ حَفْصَةَ فَقَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ ؓ فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ هَذَا رَجُلٌ يَسْتَأْذِنُ فِي بَيْتِكَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ أُرَاهُ فُلَانًا لِعَمِّ حَفْصَةَ مِنَ الرَّضَاعَةِ فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ لَوْ كَانَ فُلَانًا حَيًّا لِعَمِّهَا مِنَ الرَّضَاعَةِ يَدْخُلُ عَلَيَّ؟ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ نَعَمْ إِنَّ الرَّضَاعَةَ تُحَرِّمُ مَا تُحَرِّمُ الْوِلَادَةُ لَفْظُ حَدِيثِ الشَّافِعِيِّ
