57.4 The houses of the wives of the Prophet saws

٥٧۔٤ باب مَا جَاءَ فِي بُيُوتِ أَزْوَاجِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَمَا نُسِبَ مِنَ الْبُيُوتِ إِلَيْهِنَّ

[Machine] And the saying of Allah, the Most High: "And stay in your houses" and "Do not enter the houses of the Prophet unless permission is given to you."

وَقَوْلِ اللَّهِ تَعَالَى: {وَقَرْنَ فِي بُيُوتِكُنَّ} وَ{لاَ تَدْخُلُوا بُيُوتَ النَّبِيِّ إِلاَّ أَنْ يُؤْذَنَ لَكُمْ}.

(the wife of the Prophet) When the sickness of Messenger of Allah ﷺ got aggravated, he asked the permission of his wives that he should be treated in my house, and they permitted him.  

البخاري:٣٠٩٩حَدَّثَنَا حِبَّانُ بْنُ مُوسَى وَمُحَمَّدٌ قَالاَ أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ أَخْبَرَنَا مَعْمَرٌ وَيُونُسُ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُتْبَةَ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ

أَنَّ عَائِشَةَ ؓ زَوْجَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَتْ لَمَّا ثَقُلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ اسْتَأْذَنَ أَزْوَاجَهُ أَنْ يُمَرَّضَ فِي بَيْتِي فَأَذِنَّ لَهُ

ʿAisha said, "The Prophet ﷺ died in my house on the day of my turn while he was leaning on my chest closer to my neck, and Allah made my saliva mix with his Saliva." ʿAisha added, "ʿAbdurRahman came with a Siwak and the Prophet ﷺ was too weak to use it so I took it, chewed it and then (gave it to him and he) cleaned his teeth with it."  

البخاري:٣١٠٠حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي مَرْيَمَ حَدَّثَنَا نَافِعٌ سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ أَبِي مُلَيْكَةَ قَالَ قَالَتْ

عَائِشَةُ ؓ تُوُفِّيَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فِي بَيْتِي وَفِي نَوْبَتِي وَبَيْنَ سَحْرِي وَنَحْرِي وَجَمَعَ اللَّهُ بَيْنَ رِيقِي وَرِيقِهِ قَالَتْ دَخَلَ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بِسِوَاكٍ فَضَعُفَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ عَنْهُ فَأَخَذْتُهُ فَمَضَغْتُهُ ثُمَّ سَنَنْتُهُ بِهِ  

bukhari:3101Saʿīd b. ʿUfayr > al-Layth > ʿAbd al-Raḥman b. Khālid > Ibn Shihāb > ʿAlī b. Ḥusayn

(the wife of the Prophet) That she came to visit Messenger of Allah ﷺ while he was in Iʿtikaf (i.e. seclusion in the Mosque during the last ten days of Ramadan). When she got up to return, Messenger of Allah ﷺ got up with her and accompanied her, and when he reached near the gate of the Mosque close to the door (of the house) of Um Salama, the wife of the Prophet, two Ansari men passed by them and greeted Allah's Apostle and then went away. Messenger of Allah ﷺ addressed them saying, "Don't hurry! (She is my wife)," They said, "Glorified be Allah! O Messenger of Allah ﷺ (You are far away from any suspicion)," and his saying was hard on them. Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Satan circulates in the mind of a person as blood does (in his body). I was afraid that Satan might put some (evil) thoughts in your minds."  

البخاري:٣١٠١حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ عُفَيْرٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي اللَّيْثُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ خَالِدٍ عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ حُسَيْنٍ

أَنَّ صَفِيَّةَ زَوْجَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ أَخْبَرَتْهُ أَنَّهَا جَاءَتْ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ تَزُورُهُ وَهْوَ مُعْتَكِفٌ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ فِي الْعَشْرِ الأَوَاخِرِ مِنْ رَمَضَانَ ثُمَّ قَامَتْ تَنْقَلِبُ فَقَامَ مَعَهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ حَتَّى إِذَا بَلَغَ قَرِيبًا مِنْ باب الْمَسْجِدِ عِنْدَ باب أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ زَوْجِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ مَرَّ بِهِمَا رَجُلاَنِ مِنَ الأَنْصَارِ فَسَلَّمَا عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ ثُمَّ نَفَذَا فَقَالَ لَهُمَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَلَى رِسْلِكُمَا قَالاَ سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ وَكَبُرَ عَلَيْهِمَا ذَلِكَ فَقَالَ إِنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ يَبْلُغُ مِنَ الإِنْسَانِ مَبْلَغَ الدَّمِ وَإِنِّي خَشِيتُ أَنْ يَقْذِفَ فِي قُلُوبِكُمَا شَيْئًا

Once I went upstairs in Hafsa's house and saw the Prophet ﷺ answering the call of nature with his back towards the Qibla and facing Sham.  

البخاري:٣١٠٢حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ الْمُنْذِرِ حَدَّثَنَا أَنَسُ بْنُ عِيَاضٍ عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ يَحْيَى بْنِ حَبَّانَ عَنْ وَاسِعِ بْنِ حَبَّانَ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ ؓ قَالَ

ارْتَقَيْتُ فَوْقَ بَيْتِ حَفْصَةَ فَرَأَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ يَقْضِي حَاجَتَهُ مُسْتَدْبِرَ الْقِبْلَةِ مُسْتَقْبِلَ الشَّأْمِ  

bukhari:3103Ibrāhīm b. al-Mundhir > Anas b. ʿIyāḍ > Hishām from his father > ʿĀʾishah

That Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to offer the ʿAsr prayer while the sun was still shining in her Hujra (i.e. her dwelling place).  

البخاري:٣١٠٣حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ الْمُنْذِرِ حَدَّثَنَا أَنَسُ بْنُ عِيَاضٍ عَنْ هِشَامٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ أَنَّ عَائِشَةَ ؓ قَالَتْ

كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ يُصَلِّي الْعَصْرَ وَالشَّمْسُ لَمْ تَخْرُجْ مِنْ حُجْرَتِهَا  

bukhari:3104Mūsá b. Ismāʿīl > Jūwayriyah > Nāfiʿ > ʿAbdullāh

The Prophet ﷺ stood up and delivered a sermon, and pointing to ʿAisha's house (i.e. eastwards), he said thrice, "Affliction (will appear from) here," and, "from where the side of the Satan's head comes out (i.e. from the East).  

البخاري:٣١٠٤حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ حَدَّثَنَا جُوَيْرِيَةُ عَنْ نَافِعٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ؓ قَالَ

قَامَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ خَطِيبًا فَأَشَارَ نَحْوَ مَسْكَنِ عَائِشَةَ فَقَالَ هُنَا الْفِتْنَةُ ثَلاَثًا مِنْ حَيْثُ يَطْلُعُ قَرْنُ الشَّيْطَانِ  

bukhari:3105ʿAbdullāh b. Yūsuf > Mālik > ʿAbdullāh b. Abū Bakr > ʿAmrah Āb.ah ʿAbd al-Raḥman

ʿAisha, the wife of the Prophet ﷺ told her that once Messenger of Allah ﷺ was with her and she heard somebody asking permission to enter Hafsa's house. She said, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! This man is asking permission to enter your house." Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied, "I think he is so-and-so (meaning the foster uncle of Hafsa). What is rendered illegal because of blood relations, is also rendered illegal because of the corresponding foster-relations."  

البخاري:٣١٠٥حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ يُوسُفَ أَخْبَرَنَا مَالِكٌ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ عَنْ عَمْرَةَ ابْنَةِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ

أَنَّ عَائِشَةَ زَوْجَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ أَخْبَرَتْهَا أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ كَانَ عِنْدَهَا وَأَنَّهَا سَمِعَتْ صَوْتَ إِنْسَانٍ يَسْتَأْذِنُ فِي بَيْتِ حَفْصَةَ فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ هَذَا رَجُلٌ يَسْتَأْذِنُ فِي بَيْتِكَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ أُرَاهُ فُلاَنًا لِعَمِّ حَفْصَةَ مِنَ الرَّضَاعَةِ الرَّضَاعَةُ تُحَرِّمُ مَا تُحَرِّمُ الْوِلاَدَةُ
