‘Ali bin Abi Talib ؓ said: Shall I not tell you of the best of this ummah after its Prophet ﷺ? Abu Bakr, then ʿUmar, then another man.

أحمد:٨٧٨ – حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ حَدَّثَنَا وَهْبُ بْنُ بَقِيَّةَ الْوَاسِطِيُّ أَخْبَرَنَا خَالِدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ عَنْ بَيَانٍ عَنْ عَامِرٍ عَنْ أَبِي جُحَيْفَةَ

قَالَقَالَ عَلِيُّ بْنُ أَبِي طَالِبٍ أَلا أُخْبِرُكُمْ بِخَيْرِ هَذِهِ الْأُمَّةِ بَعْدَ نَبِيِّهَا؟ أَبُو بَكْرٍ ثُمَّ عُمَرُ ثُمَّ رَجُلٌ آخَرُ

Shall I not tell you of the best of this ummah after the Messenger of Allah ﷺ? It is Abu Bakr and ʼUmar ؓ .

أحمد:٩٠٨ – حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ حَدَّثَنِي نَصْرُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الْأَزْدِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ الْمُفَضَّلِ عَنْ شُعْبَةَ عَنْ حَبِيبِ بْنِ أَبِي ثَابِتٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ خَيْرٍ

سَمِعْتُ عَلِيًّا يَقُولُ أَلا أُخْبِرُكُمْ بِخَيْرِ هَذِهِ الْأُمَّةِ بَعْدَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ؟ أَبُو بَكْرٍ وَعُمَرُ

ahmad:922 – ʿAbdullāh > Wahbb. Baqiyyah al-Wāsiṭī > Khālid > ʿAṭāʾ / Ibn al-Sāʾib > ʿAbd Khayr > ʿAlī

Shall I not tell you of the best of this ummah after its Prophet? [It is] Abu Bakr, and the best of it after Abu Bakr is ʿUmar ؓ . Then Allah puts goodness wherever He wills.

أحمد:٩٢٢ – حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ حَدَّثَنِي وَهْبُ بْنُ بَقِيَّةَ الْوَاسِطِيُّ أَخْبَرَنَا خَالِدٌ عَنْ عَطَاءٍ يَعْنِي ابْنَ السَّائِبِ عَنْ عَبْدِ خَيْرٍ عَنْ عَلِيٍّ قَالَ

أَنَّهُ قَالَ أَلا أُنَبِّئُكُمْ بِخَيْرِ هَذِهِ الْأُمَّةِ بَعْدَ نَبِيِّهَا؟ أَبُو بَكْرٍ ثُمَّ عُمَرُ

سَمِعْتُ عَلِيًّا يَقُولُ أَلا أُخْبِرُكُمْ بِخَيْرِ هَذِهِ الْأُمَّةِ بَعْدَ نَبِيِّهَا؟ أَبُو بَكْرٍ ثُمَّ قَالَ أَلا أُخْبِرُكُمْ بِخَيْرِ هَذِهِ الْأُمَّةِ بَعْدَ أَبِي بَكْرٍ عُمَرُ

سَمِعْتُ عَلِيًّا يَقُولُ إِنَّ خَيْرَ هَذِهِ الْأُمَّةِ بَعْدَ نَبِيِّهَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ ثُمَّ عُمَرُ

"عَنْ شُرَيْحٍ القاضِى قَالَ: سَمعْتُ عَلِىَّ بْنَ أَبِى طَالِبٍ يَقُولُ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ: خَيْرُ هَذِهِ الأُمَّةِ بَعْدَ نَبِيِّهَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ، ثُمَّ عُمَرُ، ثُمَّ عُثْمَانُ، ثُمَّ أَنَا".
