[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade it. Amr mentioned it to Tawus, who said, "Ibn Abbas said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: It is better for one of you to give his brother land as a gift than to take a known rent for it."  

أحمد:٢٠٨٧حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ دِينَارٍ قَالَسَمِعْتُ ابْنَ عُمَرَ يَقُولُ كُنَّا نُخَابِرُ وَلا نَرَى بِذَلِكَ بَأْسًا حَتَّى زَعَمَ رَافِعُ بْنُ خَدِيجٍ

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ نَهَى عَنْهُ قَالَ عَمْرٌو ذَكَرْتُهُ لِطَاوُسٍ فَقَالَ طَاوُسٌ قَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ إِنَّمَا قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَمْنَحُ أَحَدُكُمْ أَخَاهُ الْأَرْضَ خَيْرٌ لَهُ مِنْ أَنْ يَأْخُذَ لَهَا خَرَاجًا مَعْلُومًا

When I mentioned it (i.e. the narration of Rafiʿ 'bin Khadij: no. 532) to Tawus, he said, "It is permissible to rent the land for cultivation, for Ibn ʿAbbas said, 'The Prophet ﷺ did not forbid that, but said: One had better give the land to one's brother gratis rather than charge a certain amount for it.' "

If one among you lets out land to his brother, that is better for him than if he receives such and such (the definite thing). Ibn 'Abbis (Allah be pleased with them) said: It is Haql, and in the parlance of the Ansr it is Muhaqala.

I heard Ibn Umar say: We did not see any harm in sharecropping till I heard Rafi' ibn Khadij say: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ has forbidden it. So I mentioned it to Tawus. He said: Ibn Abbas told me that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had not forbidden it, but said: It is better for one of you to lend to his brother than to take a prescribed sum from him.  

أبو داود:٣٣٨٩حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ كَثِيرٍ أَخْبَرَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ دِينَارٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ عُمَرَ يَقُولُ مَا كُنَّا نَرَى بِالْمُزَارَعَةِ بَأْسًا حَتَّى

“For one of you to give (land) to his brother is better for him than if he were to take a set amount in rent for it.”

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ did not prohibit renting land, but he said, "It is better for one of you to give his brother a gift than to charge him rent for it."

لَمْ يَنْهَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ عَنْ كِرَاءِ الْأَرْضِ وَلَكِنَّهُ قَالَ «لِأَنْ يَمْنَحَ أَحَدُكُمْ أَخَاهُ خَيْرٌ لَهُ مِنْ أَنْ يَأْخُذَ عَلَيْهَا أَجْرًا»
