"We complained to the Messenger of Allah on the day of Uhud, saying: 'O Messneger of Allah, it is too difficult for us to dig a grave for each person.' The Messenger of Allah said: 'Dig graves and make them good and deep, and bury two or three in one grave.' They said: 'Who should we put in first, O Messenger of Allah?' He said: 'Put in first the one who knew more Qur'an."' He said: "My father was the third of three in one grave."

شَكَوْنَا إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَوْمَ أُحُدٍ فَقُلْنَا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ الْحَفْرُ عَلَيْنَا لِكُلِّ إِنْسَانٍ شَدِيدٌ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ احْفِرُوا وَأَعْمِقُوا وَأَحْسِنُوا وَادْفِنُوا الاِثْنَيْنِ وَالثَّلاَثَةَ فِي قَبْرٍ وَاحِدٍ قَالُوا فَمَنْ نُقَدِّمُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ قَدِّمُوا أَكْثَرَهُمْ قُرْآنًا قَالَ فَكَانَ أَبِي ثَالِثَ ثَلاَثَةٍ فِي قَبْرٍ وَاحِدٍ

"On the day of Uhud some of the people among the Muslims were killed, and people were wounded. The Messenger of Allah said: 'Dig graves and make them wide, and bury two or three in a grave, and put the one who knew more Qur'an in first."'

لَمَّا كَانَ يَوْمُ أُحُدٍ أُصِيبَ مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ وَأَصَابَ النَّاسَ جِرَاحَاتٌ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ احْفِرُوا وَأَوْسِعُوا وَادْفِنُوا الاِثْنَيْنِ وَالثَّلاَثَةَ فِي الْقَبْرِ وَقَدِّمُوا أَكْثَرَهُمْ قُرْآنًا

"On the day of Uhud the people were exhausted. The Prophet said: 'Dig graves and make them wide, and bury two or three in a grave.' They said: 'O Messenger of Allah, who should we 'put in first? He said: 'Put in first the one who knew the Qur'an most."'

لَمَّا كَانَ يَوْمُ أُحُدٍ أَصَابَ النَّاسَ جَهْدٌ شَدِيدٌ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ احْفِرُوا وَأَوْسِعُوا وَادْفِنُوا الاِثْنَيْنِ وَالثَّلاَثَةَ فِي قَبْرٍ فَقَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ فَمَنْ نُقَدِّمُ قَالَ قَدِّمُوا أَكْثَرَهُمْ قُرْآنًا

"Many people were wounded on the day of Uhud and complaints were made to the Messenger of Allah about that. He said: 'Dig graves and make them good and wide, and bury two or three in a grave, and put in first the one who knew the Qur'an most."'

اشْتَدَّ الْجِرَاحُ يَوْمَ أُحُدٍ فَشُكِيَ ذَلِكَ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ احْفِرُوا وَأَوْسِعُوا وَأَحْسِنُوا وَادْفِنُوا فِي الْقَبْرِ الاِثْنَيْنِ وَالثَّلاَثَةَ وَقَدِّمُوا أَكْثَرَهُمْ قُرْآنًا

"Dig graves and dig them well, and bury two or three (together), and put in first the one who knew the Qur'an most."

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ احْفِرُوا وَأَحْسِنُوا وَادْفِنُوا الاِثْنَيْنِ وَالثَّلاَثَةَ وَقَدِّمُوا أَكْثَرَهُمْ قُرْآنًا

"My father was killed on the day of Uhud, and the Prophet said: 'Dig graves and make them good and wide, and bury two or three in a grave, and put in first the one who knew the Qur'an most.' My father was the third of three, and the one who knew the Qur'an most was placed (in the grave) first."

النَّبِيُّ ﷺ احْفِرُوا وَأَوْسِعُوا وَأَحْسِنُوا وَادْفِنُوا الاِثْنَيْنِ وَالثَّلاَثَةَ فِي الْقَبْرِ وَقَدِّمُوا أَكْثَرَهُمْ قُرْآنًا فَكَانَ أَبِي ثَالِثَ ثَلاَثَةٍ وَكَانَ أَكْثَرَهُمْ قُرْآنًا فَقُدِّمَ

لَمَّا كَانَ يَوْمُ أُحُدٍ أَصَابَ النَّاسَ قَرْحٌ وَجَهْدٌ شَدِيدٌ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ احْفِرُوا وَأَوْسِعُوا وَادْفِنُوا الِاثْنَيْنِ وَالثَّلَاثَةَ فِي الْقَبْرِ قَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ مَنْ نُقَدِّمُ؟ قَالَ أَكْثَرَهُمْ جَمْعًا وَأَخْذًا لِلْقُرْآنِ

[AI] You go to people who are not knowledgeable about the narration of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ from us. My father was killed on the day of Uhud, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Dig, widen, and bury the two and the three in one grave, and prioritize those who know the most Quran." My father knew the most Quran, so he was prioritized.

إِنَّكُمْ لَتَخُطُّونَ إِلَى أَقْوَامٍ مَا هُمْ بِأَعْلَمَ بِحَدِيثِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ مِنَّا قُتِلَ أَبِي يَوْمَ أُحُدٍ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ احْفِرُوا وَأَوْسِعُوا وَادْفِنُوا الِاثْنَيْنِ وَالثَّلَاثَةَ فِي الْقَبْرِ وَقَدِّمُوا أَكْثَرَهُمْ قُرْآنًا وَكَانَ أَبِي أَكْثَرَهُمْ قُرْآنًا فَقُدِّمَ

[AI] They complained to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about their injuries on the day of Uhud and said, "How can you order our killing?" He said, "Dig and broaden and do it well and bury them in the grave of two or three of them, and advance the majority of them in recitation of the Quran." Hisham said, "So my father was placed before two people."

شَكَوْا إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ الْقَرْحَ يَوْمَ أُحُدٍ وَقَالُوا كَيْفَ تَأْمُرُ بِقَتْلَانَا؟ قَالَ احْفِرُوا وَأَوْسِعُوا وَأَحْسِنُوا وَادْفِنُوا فِي الْقَبْرِ الِاثْنَيْنِ وَالثَّلَاثَةَ وَقَدِّمُوا أَكْثَرَهُمْ قُرْآنًا قَالَ هِشَامٌ فَقُدِّمَ أَبِي بَيْنَ يَدَيْ اثْنَيْنِ

The Ansar came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on the day of Uhud and said: We have been afflicted with wound and fatigue. What do you command us? He said: Dig graves, make them wide, bury two or three in a single grave. He was asked: Which of them should be put first? He replied: The one who knew the Qur'an most. He (Hisham) said: My father Amir died on the day and was buried with two or one. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 3215)

"My father was killed on the day of Uhud, and the Prophet said: 'Dig graves and make them good and wide, and bury two or three in a grave, and put in first the one who knew the Qur'an most.' "On the day of Uhud, the wounded complained to the Messenger of Allah, so he said: 'Dig, and make it wide, and appropriate, and bury two and three in one grave. And advance the one who knew the most Qu'ran.' My father had died so he placed before two men." (Using translation from Tirmidhī 1713)

النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «احْفِرُوا وَأَوْسِعُوا وَأَحْسِنُوا وَادْفِنُوا الِاثْنَيْنِ وَالثَّلَاثَةَ فِي قَبْرٍ وَاحِدٍ وَقَدِّمُوا أَكْثَرَهُمْ قُرْآنًا» وَكَانَ أَبِي ثَالِثَ ثَلَاثَةٍ وَكَانَ أَكْثَرَهُمْ قُرْآنًا فَقُدِّمَ

[AI] The wounds intensified on the day of Uhud, so they complained to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about the wounds. He said, "Dig and enlarge and clean and bury the two and three in the grave, and present the majority of them with the Qur'an." So they presented my father (Abi) between the hands of two men.

اشْتَدَّتِ الْجِرَاحَاتُ يَوْمَ أُحُدٍ فَشَكَوْا إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ الْجِرَاحَاتِ فَقَالَ «احْفِرُوا وَأَوْسِعُوا وَأَحْسِنُوا وَادْفِنُوا الِاثْنَيْنِ وَالثَّلَاثَةَ فِي الْقَبْرِ وَقَدِّمُوا أَكْثَرَهُمْ قُرْآنًا» فَقَدَّمُوا أَبِي بَيْنَ يَدَيْ رَجُلَيْنِ

[AI] They complained to the Prophet ﷺ about wounds and dug holes for each person on the day of Uhud. He said, "Dig deeper, make it bigger, make it well, and bury two or three people in one grave." They asked, "Who should we bury first?" He said, "The one who knows the most Quran."

شَكَوْا إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ الْقَرْحَ وَالْحَفْرَ لِكُلِّ إِنْسَانٍ يَوْمَ أُحُدٍ فَقَالَ «احْفِرُوا وَأَعْمِقُوا وَأَحْسِنُوا وَادْفِنُوا الِاثْنَيْنِ وَالثَّلَاثَةَ فِي قَبْرٍ» قَالُوا فَمَنْ نُقَدِّمُ؟ قَالَ «أَكْثَرَهُمْ قُرْآنًا»

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Dig and make it good and spacious, and bury two or three bodies in one grave, and prioritize those who have memorized the most Quran." My father Abu Bayyan was mentioned in the chain of narration of this hadith by Abd al-Warith, who added to its chain Abu Duhma.

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ «احْفِرُوا وَأَحْسِنُوا وَأَوْسِعُوا وَادْفِنُوا الِاثْنَيْنِ وَالثَّلَاثَةَ فِي قَبْرٍ وَقَدِّمُوا أَكْثَرَهُمْ قُرْآنًا» فَقُدِّمَ أَبِي بَيْنَ يَدَيْ رَجُلَيْنِ زَادَ عَبْدُ الْوَارِثِ فِي إِسْنَادِ هَذَا الْحَدِيثِ أَبَا الدَّهْمَاءِ

[AI] Hisham ibn 'Amir, the Ansar came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on the day of Uhud and said, "O Messenger of Allah, we have wounds and fatigue, what do you command us?" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Dig trenches, widen them, and put two or three men in each grave." They asked, "Which of them should we put first?" He said, "Put those who have memorized the most Quran first." So they put my father between two or three men.

هِشَامُ بْنُ عَامِرٍ أَتَتِ الْأَنْصَارُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَوْمَ أُحُدٍ فَقَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ قَرْحٌ وَجَهْدٌ فَمَا تَأْمُرُنَا؟ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «احْفِرُوا وَأَوْسِعُوا وَاجْعَلُوا الرَّجُلَيْنِ وَالثَّلَاثَةَ فِي الْقَبْرِ» فَقَالُوا أَيُّهُمْ نُقَدِّمُ؟ قَالَ «وَقَدِّمُوا أَكْثَرَهُمْ قُرْآنًا» فَقَدَّمُوا أَبِي بَيْنَ رَجُلَيْنِ أَوِ اثْنَيْنِ

"We complained to the Messenger of Allah on the day of Uhud, saying: 'O Messneger of Allah, it is too difficult for us to dig a grave for each person.' النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «احْفِرُوا وَأَوْسِعُوا وَأَحْسِنُوا وَادْفِنُوا الِاثْنَيْنِ وَالثَّلَاثَةَ فِي الْقَبْرِ وَقَدِّمُوا أَكْثَرَهُمْ قُرْآنًا فَكَانَ أَبِي ثَالِثَ ثَلَاثَةٍ وَكَانَ أَكْثَرَهُمْ قُرْآنًا فَقُدِّمَ»

[AI] The Prophet ﷺ said regarding the martyrs of Uhud: "Bury the two and three together in one grave, dig deep, and ensure a good burial."

قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فِي قَتْلَى أُحُدٍ أَعْمِقُوا وَأَحْسِنُوا وَادْفِنُوا الِاثْنَيْنِ وَالثَّلَاثَةَ فِي قَبْرٍ وَاحِدٍ

[AI] When it was the day of Uhud, they complained to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about hunger. They said, "O Messenger of Allah, the pits are becoming severe on us for every person." He said, "Dig deeper, improve, and bury two or three in one grave." They said, "O Messenger of Allah, then who shall we bury first?" He said, "Most of them are Quran." So, my father was buried with two others in one grave. It was narrated from Sa'd bin Hisham from his father.

لَمَّا كَانَ يَوْمُ أُحُدٍ شَكَوْا إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ الْقَرْحَ فَقَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ يَشْتَدُّ عَلَيْنَا الْحَفْرُ لِكُلِّ إِنْسَانٍ قَالَ أَعْمِقُوا وَأَحْسِنُوا وَادْفِنُوا الِاثْنَيْنِ وَالثَّلَاثَةَ فِي قَبْرٍ فَقَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ فَمَنْ نُقَدِّمُ قَالَ أَكْثَرُهُمْ قُرْآنًا قَالَ فَدُفِنَ أَبِي ثَالِثَ ثَلَاثَةٍ فِي قَبْرٍ وَقَدْ قِيلَ عَنْهُ عَنْ سَعْدِ بْنِ هِشَامٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ

[AI] The wounds intensified on the day of Uhud, so they complained to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about the abundance of wounds. He said, "Dig deeper, widen, improve, and bury two or three together in one grave. And prioritize those who have memorized the Quran." This hadith was narrated by Abd al-Warith from Ayyub from Humaid from Abu al-Dahma from Hisham.

اشْتَدَّتِ الْجِرَاحَاتُ يَوْمَ أُحُدٍ فَشَكَوْا إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ كَثْرَةَ الْجِرَاحَاتِ فَقَالَ احْفِرُوا وَأَوْسِعُوا وَأَحْسِنُوا وَادْفِنُوا الِاثْنَيْنِ وَالثَّلَاثَةَ فِي قَبْرٍ وَقَدِّمُوا أَكْثَرَهُمْ قُرْآنًا وَرَوَاهُ عَبْدُ الْوَارِثِ عَنْ أَيُّوبَ عَنْ حُمَيْدٍ عَنْ أَبِي الدَّهْمَاءِ عَنْ هِشَامٍ

[AI] "That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Dig and widen, do good and bury the two or the three, and send forth the majority of them with the Qur'an. Abu Bayn was sent forth by two men, said the judge, Abu Hisham ibn Amir was killed on the Day of Uhud.'"

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ احْفِرُوا وَأَوْسِعُوا وَأَحْسِنُوا وَادْفِنُوا الِاثْنَيْنِ وَالثَّلَاثَةَ وَقَدِّمُوا أَكْثَرَهُمْ قُرْآنًا فَقُدِّمَ أَبِي بَيْنَ يَدَيْ رَجُلَيْنِ قَالَ الْقَاضِي قُتِلَ أَبُو هِشَامِ بْنُ عَامِرٍ يَوْمَ أُحُدٍ

"أحفروا، وأعمِقُوا، وأوسعوا، وأحْسنوا، وادْفنوا الاثنين والثلاثة في قبرٍ واحدٍ، وقدموا أكثرهُمْ قرآنًا".

"عَنْ جَابِرٍ قَالَ: قَال رسُولُ الله ﷺ يَوْمَ أُحُدٍ: احْفِرُوا وأَعْمِقُوا وَأَوْسِعُوا وَأَحْسِنُوا وَادْفِنُوا الاِثْنَيْنِ والثَّلاَثَةَ فِى قَبْرٍ وَاحِدٍ، وَقَدِّمُوا أَكثَرهُم قُرآنًا".

"عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عَامِرٍ قَالَ: شُكِى إِلى رَسُولِ الله ﷺ شِدَّةُ الْجِرَاحِ يَوْمَ أُحُدٍ، فَقَالَ: احفروا وَاوْسِعُوْا وأَحْسِنُوا، وَادْفِنُوا الاثْنَيْنِ وَالثَّلاثَةَ، وَقَدِّمُوا أَكْثَرَهُمْ قُرْأَنًا، فَقَدمُوا أبى بين يدى رجلين".
