that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Hasten to do deeds before trials like pieces of the dark night: a man will be a believer in the morning and a disbeliever in the evening, or he will be a believer in the evening and a disbeliever in the morning, selling his religion for a worldly gain."

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ: «بَادِرُوا بِالْأَعْمَالِ فِتَنًا كَقِطَعِ اللَّيْلِ الْمُظْلِمِ، يُصْبِحُ الرَّجُلُ مُؤْمِنًا وَيُمْسِي كَافِرًا، أَوْ يُمْسِي مُؤْمِنًا وَيُصْبِحُ كَافِرًا، يَبِيعُ دِينَهُ بِعَرَضٍ مِنَ الدُّنْيَا».

"Rush to do good deeds. A Fitnah will occur that is like a portion of the dark night, morning will come upon a man as a believer, who will be a disbeliever in the evening, and evening will come upon a believer, who will be a disbeliever in the morning. One of them will sell his religion for goods of the world."

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ بَادِرُوا بِالأَعْمَالِ فِتَنًا كَقِطَعِ اللَّيْلِ الْمُظْلِمِ يُصْبِحُ الرَّجُلُ مُؤْمِنًا وَيُمْسِي كَافِرًا وَيُمْسِي مُؤْمِنًا وَيُصْبِحُ كَافِرًا يَبِيعُ أَحَدُهُمْ دِينَهُ بِعَرَضٍ مِنَ الدُّنْيَا

"Before the Hour there shall be Fitan like a portion of the dark night. Morning will come upon a man as a believer, who will be a disbeliever in the evening, and evening will come upon a believer, who will be a disbeliever in the morning, people will sell their religion for goods of the world."

عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ تَكُونُ بَيْنَ يَدَىِ السَّاعَةِ فِتَنٌ كَقِطَعِ اللَّيْلِ الْمُظْلِمِ يُصْبِحُ الرَّجُلُ فِيهَا مُؤْمِنًا وَيُمْسِي كَافِرًا وَيُمْسِي مُؤْمِنًا وَيُصْبِحُ كَافِرًا يَبِيعُ أَقْوَامٌ دِينَهُمْ بِعَرَضٍ مِنَ الدُّنْيَا

[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "Indeed, before the Hour there will be tribulations like the dark pieces of the night, tribulations like the pieces of smoke. In it, the heart of a man will die just as his body dies. A person will wake up in the morning as a believer and by evening become a disbeliever, or will wake up in the evening as a believer and become a disbeliever in the morning. People will sell their morals and religion for a worldly possession. Verily, Yazid ibn Mu'awiyah has already died and you are our brothers and companions, so do not precede us until we consult among ourselves."

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ إِنَّ بَيْنَ يَدَيِ السَّاعَةِ فِتَنًا كَقِطَعِ اللَّيْلِ الْمُظْلِمِ فِتَنًا كَقِطَعِ الدُّخَانِ يَمُوتُ فِيهَا قَلْبُ الرَّجُلِ كَمَا يَمُوتُ بَدَنُهُ يُصْبِحُ الرَّجُلُ مُؤْمِنًا وَيُمْسِي كَافِرًا وَيُمْسِي مُؤْمِنًا وَيُصْبِحُ كَافِرًا يَبِيعُ أَقْوَامٌ خَلَاقَهُمْ وَدِينَهُمْ بِعَرَضٍ مِنَ الدُّنْيَا وَإِنَّ يَزِيدَ بْنَ مُعَاوِيَةَ قَدْ مَاتَ وَأَنْتُمْ إِخْوَانُنَا وَأَشِقَّاؤُنَا فَلَا تَسْبِقُونَا حَتَّى نَخْتَارَ لِأَنْفُسِنَا

"Before the Hour there shall be Fitan like a portion of the dark night. وَسَمِعْنَا وَلَمْ تَسْمَعُوا وَإِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ كَانَ يَقُولُ إِنَّ بَيْنَ يَدَيِ السَّاعَةِ فِتَنًا كَأَنَّهَا قِطَعُ اللَّيْلِ الْمُظْلِمِ يُصْبِحُ الرَّجُلُ فِيهَا مُؤْمِنًا وَيُمْسِي كَافِرًا وَيَبِيعُ فِيهَا أَقْوَامٌ خَلَاقَهُمْ بِعَرَضٍ مِنَ الدُّنْيَا

The Prophet ﷺ said: Before you there will be commotions like pieces of a dark night in which a man will be a believer in the morning and an infidel in the evening. He who sits during them will be better than he who gets up, and he who gets up during them is better than he who walks, and he who walks during them is better than he who runs. They (the people) said: What do you order us to do? He replied: Keep to your houses. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 4262)

وَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِنَّ بَيْنَ أَيْدِيكُمْ فِتَنًا كَقِطَعِ اللَّيْلِ الْمُظْلِمِ يُصْبِحُ الرَّجُلُ فِيهَا مُؤْمِنًا وَيُمْسِي كَافِرًا وَيُمْسِي مُؤْمِنًا وَيُصْبِحُ كَافِرًا الْقَاعِدُ فِيهَا خَيْرٌ مِنَ الْقَائِمِ وَالْقَائِمُ فِيهَا خَيْرٌ مِنَ الْمَاشِي وَالْمَاشِي فِيهَا خَيْرٌ مِنَ السَّاعِي قَالُوا فَمَا تَأْمُرُنَا؟ قَالَ كُونُوا أَحْلَاسَ بُيُوتِكُمْ

[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying: "Indeed, before the Hour, there will be trials like the dark night, and there will be trials like a piece of smoke. In these trials, a person's heart dies just as his body dies. In the morning, a person may be a believer, and by the evening, he becomes a disbeliever. And in the evening, a person may be a believer, and by the morning, he becomes a disbeliever. People will sell their religion and their morals for a small worldly gain. Verily, Yazid ibn Muawiyah has already died, and you are our brothers and our followers. So do not rush ahead of us in anything until we consult with ourselves."

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ إِنَّ بَيْنَ يَدَيِ السَّاعَةِ فِتَنًا كَقِطَعِ اللَّيْلِ الْمُظْلِمِ وَفِتَنًا كَقِطَعِ الدُّخَانِ يَمُوتُ فِيهَا قَلْبُ الرَّجُلِ كَمَا يَمُوتُ بَدَنُهُ يُصْبِحُ الرَّجُلُ مُؤْمِنًا وَيُمْسِي كَافِرًا وَيُمْسِي مُؤْمِنًا يُصْبِحُ كَافِرًا يَبِيعُ فِيهَا أَقْوَامٌ خَلَاقَهُمْ وَدِينَهُمْ بِعَرَضٍ مِنَ الدُّنْيَا قَلِيلٍ وَإِنَّ يَزِيدَ بْنَ مُعَاوِيَةَ قَدْ مَاتَ وَأَنْتُمْ إِخْوَتُنَا وَأَشِقَّاؤُنَا فَلَا تَسْبِقُونَا بِشَيْءٍ حَتَّى نَخْتَارُ لِأَنْفُسِنَا

[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying: "Indeed, before the Hour there will be trials like pieces of dark smoke. The heart of a person will die from it, just as his body dies. In the morning, a person will be a believer, and in the evening, he will be a disbeliever. Similarly, a person will be a believer in the evening, and in the morning, he will be a disbeliever. People will sell their religion for a small worldly gain."

And that you should consider him dead while you are his brothers and his companions amongst those trials.

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «إِنَّ بَيْنَ يَدَيِ السَّاعَةِ فِتَنًا كَقِطَعِ الدُّخَانِ يَمُوتُ مِنْهَا قَلْبُ الرَّجُلِ كَمَا يَمُوتُ بَدَنُهُ يُصْبِحُ الرَّجُلُ فِيهَا مُؤْمِنًا وَيُمْسِي كَافِرًا وَيُمْسِي مُؤْمِنًا وَيُصْبِحُ كَافِرًا يَبِيعُ فِيهَا أَقْوَامٌ دِينَهُمْ بِعَرَضٍ مِنَ الدُّنْيَا قَلِيلٍ» وَأَنْ يَزِيدَ قَدْ مَاتَ وَأَنْتُمْ إِخْوَانُنَا وَأَشِقَّاؤُنَا وَمِنْهَا

[Machine] Narrated Abu Huraira:

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Hasten to perform good deeds before a time comes upon you like the dark night. During that time, a person will be a believer in the morning and a disbeliever in the evening, or he will be a believer in the evening and a disbeliever in the morning. He will sell his religion for worldly gains."

حَدَّثَنَا الْقَعْنَبِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ الْعَلَاءِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «بَادِرُوا بِالْأَعْمَالِ فِتَنًا كَقِطَعِ اللَّيْلِ الْمُظْلِمِ يُصْبِحُ الرَّجُلُ فِيهَا مُؤْمِنًا وَيُمْسِي كَافِرًا وَيُصْبِحُ كَافِرًا وَيُمْسِي مُؤْمِنًا يَبِيعُ دِينَهُ بِعَرَضٍ مِنَ الدُّنْيَا»

[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, "Verily, before the Hour, there will be tribulations like pieces of a dark night, in which a person's heart dies just as their body dies. In it, a man will wake up as a believer and by the evening he will be a disbeliever. And in it, a person will be a believer in the morning and a disbeliever in the evening. People will sell their religion and their manners for a small worldly gain." And indeed, Yazid bin Mu'awiyah has already died, and you are our brothers and our companions, so do not rush ahead of us in anything until we consult ourselves.

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «إِنَّ بَيْنَ يَدَيِ السَّاعَةِ فِتَنًا كَقِطَعِ اللَّيْلِ الْمُظْلِمِ فِتَنًا كَقِطَعِ الدُّخَانِ يَمُوتُ فِيهَا قَلْبُ الرَّجُلِ كَمَا يَمُوتُ بَدَنُهُ يُصْبِحُ الرَّجُلُ فِيهَا مُؤْمِنًا وَيُمْسِي كَافِرًا وَيُمْسِي مُؤْمِنًا وَيُصْبِحُ كَافِرًا يَبِيعُ فِيهَا أَقْوَامٌ أَخْلَاقَهُمْ وَدِينَهُمْ بِعَرَضٍ مِنَ الدُّنْيَا» وَإِنَّ يَزِيدَ بْنَ مُعَاوِيَةَ قَدْ مَاتَ وَأَنْتُمْ إِخْوَانُنَا وَأَشِقَّاؤُنَا فَلَا تَسْبِقُونَا بِشَيْءٍ حَتَّى نَخْتَارَ لِأَنْفُسِنَا

"بَادِرُوا بالأعْمَال فِتنًا كقِطَع اللَّيلِ المظلِم، يُصبِحُ الرَّجُلُ مُؤْمِنًا وَيُمْسِى كَافِرًا، وَيُمْسِى مؤْمِنًا، وَيُصْبِحُ كَافِرًا، يَبِيعُ أَحدُكُمْ دِينَهُ بِعَرضٍ مِنَ الدُّنيا قَلِيل".

"بَينَ يَدَى السَّاعَةِ (فِتَنٌ) كقِطَع اللَّيلِ المُظلِم يُمْسِى الرَّجُلُ فِيهَا مُؤمِنًا، وَيُصبِحُ كَافِرًا، وَيُصْبِحُ مُؤْمنًا، وَيُمْسِى كَافِرًا، يَبِيعُ أحَدُهُمْ دِينهُ بعَرَضٍ مِنَ الدُّنيَا قَلِيلٌ".

"لتَغَشَيَنَّ أمتى بَعدى فِتَنٌ كَقِطَع الليل المظلم، يُصبح الرجلُ فيها مؤمنًا ويمسي كَافِرا، ويُمسى مُؤمنًا ويُصبحُ كافرا، يبيع فيها أقوامٌ دينَهم بِعرض من الدنيا قليلٍ".

"لَتَفْتِتَن أُمَّتِي بَعْدِى فِتَنٌ كَقِطع الليل المظلِم، يُصْبح الرجل فيها مؤمنًا ويُمْسِى كَافِرًا، ويُمْسِى مُؤمِنا ويُصْبح كافرا، يَبيعُ أقْوَامٌ فيها دِينَهُمْ بِعَرضٍ من الدنيَا قَليل".

"لَيَغْشَيَنَّ أُمَّتِي مِن بَعْدِى فِتَنٌ كقِطَع اللَّيلِ المُظلِم، يُصْبِحُ الرَّجُلُ فِيهَا مُؤمِنًا، وَيُمْسِى كَافِرًا، يَبِيعُ أقْوَام دينَهم بِعَرَض مِن الدُّنْيَا قَلِيل".

"إِنَّ بَيْنَ يَدَىِ السَّاعة فِتنًا كَأَنَّهَا قِطَعُ الليل الْمُظلم، يُصْبِحُ الرَّجُلُ فيهَا مُؤْمنًا ويُمْسى كَافِرًا، ويُمْسى مؤْمنًا ويُصْبِحُ كَافرًا، يبيعُ قوْمٌ خَلَاقهُمْ بِعرضِ مِنَ الدَّنْيا يسيرٍ".

"إِنَّ بَيْنَ يَدَىِ السَّاعةِ فِتنًا كقِطَع الَّلِيْل الْمُظْلِم، يُصْبِحُ الرَّجُلُ فيها مُؤْمنًا، ويُمْسِى كافِرًا، ويُمْسِى مُؤْمنًا، ويُصْبِحُ كافرًا! ! يبيع فيها قَومٌ دينهم بعَرَضٍ من الدُّنيا ".

"إِنَّ بَيْنَ يَدَى السَّاعةِ فتنًا كقطع الليل المظلم، فِتنًا كَقِطَع الدُّخَانِ، يمُوتُ فيها قَلْبُ الرَّجُلِ كما يموتُ بَدَنُهُ، يُصْبِحُ الرَّجُلُ فيها مُؤْمنًا ويمسِى كافِرًا، وَيُمْسِى مؤْمنًا وَيُصْبِحُ كِافرًا، يبيعُ فيها أَقوامٌ خَلَاقَهمُ وَدينَهُمْ بِعَرَضٍ من الدنيا".

"تكُونُ بينَ يَدَى السَّاعَة فِتَنٌ كَقِطَع الليَّلِ الْمُظلِمِ؛ يُصْبحُ الرَّجُلُ فِيهَا مُؤْمِنًا، وَيُمْسِى كَافِرًا، ويُمْسِى مُؤْمِنًا؛ وَيُصْبِحُ كَافِرًا، يبَيعُ أقوَامٌ دينَهُم بعَرَضٍ مِنَ الدُّنْيَا".

"عَنِ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ قَالَ: هَذهِ فِتْنَةٌ قَدِ اطَّلَعَتْ كَقِطَعِ اللَّيْل الْمُظْلِم كُلَّمَا ذَهَبَ مِنْهَا رَسْلٌ بَدَا رَسْلٌ آخَر، يَمُوتُ فِيهَا قَلْبُ الرَّجُل كَمَا يَمُوتُ فِيهَا بَدَنُهُ، يُصْبحُ الرَّجُلُ فيَهَا مُؤْمِنًا وَيُمْسِى كَافِرًا، وَيُمْسِى مُؤْمِنًا وَيُصْبحُ كَافِرًا، يَبيعُ فيهَا أقْوَامٌ دِينَهُمْ بعَرَضٍ مِنَ الدُّنْيَا قَلِيلٍ".
