Abdullah bin Masood said, "I am Abdullah bin Masood." The people became silent, and he said, "You have brought a misguided innovation, or you have surpassed the knowledge of the companions of Muhammad ﷺ ." A man from the Banu Tamim tribe said, "We have not brought a misguided innovation, and we have not surpassed the knowledge of the companions of Muhammad ﷺ ." Umar bin Utbah bin Farqad said, "I seek forgiveness from Allah, O Ibn Masood, and I repent to Him." Abdullah bin Masood commanded them to disperse. Ibn Masood saw two gatherings in the mosque of Kufa, so he got up from one of them and asked, "Which of you was here before her?" One of them said, "We were." He said to the other, "Get up and go to them." So he made them one group.

There are people sitting in the mosque, and a man is saying to them, 'Glorify Allah like this, and praise Allah like this.' Abdullah then went and we went with him until he came to them and said, 'How quickly you have gone astray! [Machine] Indeed, this Quran is a feast from Allah, so learn from His feast whatever you can. Indeed, this Quran is the rope of Allah that He has commanded, and it is the clear light and the beneficial healing. It is a protection for those who adhere to it and a salvation for those who hold onto it. It does not deviate or falter, but rather it straightens and safeguards. Its marvels do not cease, and it is not created from anything. Recite it, for Allah rewards you for every letter of it with ten good deeds. I did not tell you that (the letter) "alif" is a letter, but rather it is "alif" (a letter), "lam" (a letter), and "meem" (a letter).
