He said: Abu Aisha told us that Masruq said: I heard Abdullah ibn Mas'ud saying, "The two eyes commit adultery, the two legs commit adultery, the two hands commit adultery, and the private parts confirm that and deny it." He said: Yes, and I have also heard him saying that there is a comprehensive verse in the Quran that includes what is lawful and what is forbidden, and what is commanded and what is prohibited, {Indeed, Allah orders justice and kindness and giving to relatives and forbids immorality}. He said: Yes. He said: And I have also heard him saying that the greatest verse in the Quran that gives hope is {And whoever fears Allah, He will make for him a way out and provide for him from where he does not expect}. He said: Yes. He said: And have you heard Abdullah ibn Mas'ud saying that the most joyful verse in the Quran is {O My servants who have transgressed against themselves, do not despair of the mercy of Allah}? He said: Yes. He said, "I have heard him, and the wording is according to the narration of Hammad ibn Zaid."
