'A'isha said, "The Prophet ﷺ was sleepless one night and said, 'Would that a man of righteous action among my Companions would come and guard me tonight!' Then he heard the sound of weapons. He asked, 'Who is it?' 'Sa'd,' came the answer. Sa'd said, 'Messenger of Allah, I have come to guard you.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ slept and we heard him snore."

قَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ أَرِقَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ ذَاتَ لَيْلَةٍ فَقَالَ لَيْتَ رَجُلاً صَالِحًا مِنْ أَصْحَابِي يَجِيئُنِي فَيَحْرُسَنِي اللَّيْلَةَ إِذْ سَمِعْنَا صَوْتَ السِّلاَحِ فَقَالَ مَنْ هَذَا؟ قَالَ سَعْدٌ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ جِئْتُ أَحْرُسُكَ فَنَامَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ حَتَّى سَمِعْنَا غَطِيطَهُ

The Prophet ﷺ was vigilant one night and when he reached Medina, he said, "Would that a pious man from my companions guard me tonight!" Suddenly we heard the clatter of arms. He said, "Who is that? " He (The new comer) replied, " I am Saʿd bin Abi Waqqas and have come to guard you." So, the Prophet ﷺ slept (that night).

سَمِعْتُ عَائِشَةَ ؓ تَقُولُ كَانَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ سَهِرَ فَلَمَّا قَدِمَ الْمَدِينَةَ قَالَ لَيْتَ رَجُلاً مِنْ أَصْحَابِي صَالِحًا يَحْرُسُنِي اللَّيْلَةَ إِذْ سَمِعْنَا صَوْتَ سِلاَحٍ فَقَالَ مَنْ هَذَا فَقَالَ أَنَا سَعْدُ بْنُ أَبِي وَقَّاصٍ جِئْتُ لأَحْرُسَكَ وَنَامَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ

One night the Prophet ﷺ was unable to sleep and said, "Would that a righteous man from my companions guarded me tonight." Suddenly we heard the clatter of arms, whereupon the Prophet ﷺ said, "Who is it?" It was said, "I am Saʿd, O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! I have come to guard you." The Prophet ﷺ then slept so soundly that we heard him snoring. Abu ʿAbdullah said: ʿAisha said: Bilal said, "Would that I but stayed overnight in a valley with Idhkhir and Jalil (two kinds of grass) around me (i.e., in Mecca)." Then I told that to the Prophet ﷺ .

عَائِشَةُ أَرِقَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ ذَاتَ لَيْلَةٍ فَقَالَ لَيْتَ رَجُلاً صَالِحًا مِنْ أَصْحَابِي يَحْرُسُنِي اللَّيْلَةَ إِذْ سَمِعْنَا صَوْتَ السِّلاَحِ قَالَ مَنْ هَذَا قِيلَ سَعْدٌ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ جِئْتُ أَحْرُسُكَ فَنَامَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ حَتَّى سَمِعْنَا غَطِيطَهُ قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ وَقَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ قَالَ بِلاَلٌ أَلاَ لَيْتَ شِعْرِي هَلْ أَبِيتَنَّ لَيْلَةً بِوَادٍ وَحَوْلِي إِذْخِرٌ وَجَلِيلُ فَأَخْبَرْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ

Were there a pious person from amongst my companions who should keep a watch for me during the nightt? She said: We heard the noise of arms, whereupon Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Who is it? And Sa'd b. Abi Waqqas said: Allah's MesseDger. I have come to serve as your sentinel. 'A'isha said: Allah' s Messenger ﷺ slept (such a sound sleep) that I heard the noise of his snoring.

أَرِقَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ ذَاتَ لَيْلَةٍ فَقَالَ لَيْتَ رَجُلاً صَالِحًا مِنْ أَصْحَابِي يَحْرُسُنِي اللَّيْلَةَ قَالَتْ وَسَمِعْنَا صَوْتَ السِّلاَحِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ مَنْ هَذَا قَالَ سَعْدُ بْنُ أَبِي وَقَّاصٍ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ جِئْتُ أَحْرُسُكَ قَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ فَنَامَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ حَتَّى سَمِعْتُ غَطِيطَهُ

Were there a pious person from amongst my Companions who should keep a watch for me durin. the night? She (A'isha) reported: We were in this state that we heard the clanging noise of arms. lie (the Holy Prophet) said: Who is it? He said: This is Sa'd b. Abi Waqqas. Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him: What brings you here? Thereupon he said: I harboured fear (lest any harm should come to) Messenger of Allah ﷺ, so I came to serve as your sentinel. Messenger of Allah ﷺ invoked blessings upon him. He then slept. This hadith has been transmitted on the authority of Ibn Rumh with a slight variation of wording.

سَهِرَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ مَقْدَمَهُ الْمَدِينَةَ لَيْلَةً فَقَالَ لَيْتَ رَجُلاً صَالِحًا مِنْ أَصْحَابِي يَحْرُسُنِي اللَّيْلَةَ قَالَتْ فَبَيْنَا نَحْنُ كَذَلِكَ سَمِعْنَا خَشْخَشَةَ سِلاَحٍ فَقَالَ مَنْ هَذَا قَالَ سَعْدُ بْنُ أَبِي وَقَّاصٍ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ مَا جَاءَ بِكَ قَالَ وَقَعَ فِي نَفْسِي خَوْفٌ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَجِئْتُ أَحْرُسُهُ فَدَعَا لَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ ثُمَّ نَامَ وَفِي رِوَايَةِ ابْنِ رُمْحٍ فَقُلْنَا مَنْ هَذَا

"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ did not sleep one night upon arriving in Al-Madinah. So he said: 'If only a righteous man would guard me tonight.'" She said: "So we were like that, when we heard the clanging of weapons. He said: 'Who is this?' So he said: 'Sa'd bin Abi Waqqas.' So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'What has brought you?' Sa'd said: 'Fear for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came upon me, so I came to protect him.' So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ supplicated for him, then slept."

سَهِرَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ مَقْدَمَهُ الْمَدِينَةَ لَيْلَةً قَالَ لَيْتَ رَجُلاً صَالِحًا يَحْرُسُنِي اللَّيْلَةَ قَالَتْ فَبَيْنَا نَحْنُ كَذَلِكَ إِذْ سَمِعْنَا خَشْخَشَةَ السِّلاَحِ فَقَالَ مَنْ هَذَا فَقَالَ سَعْدُ بْنُ أَبِي وَقَّاصٍ فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ مَا جَاءَ بِكَ فَقَالَ سَعْدٌ وَقَعَ فِي نَفْسِي خَوْفٌ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَجِئْتُ أَحْرُسُهُ فَدَعَا لَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ ثُمَّ نَامَ هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ

[AI] The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) stayed awake one night and his wife was lying next to him. She said, "I asked, 'What is the matter with you, O Messenger of Allah?' He said, 'I wish there was a righteous man from my companions who could guard me tonight.' She said, 'While I was on that, I heard the sound of a weapon.' He said, 'Who is this?' He said, 'I am Sa'd ibn Malik.' He said, 'What brings you?' He said, 'I came to guard you, O Messenger of Allah.' She said, 'Then I heard the snoring of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in his sleep.'"

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ سَهِرَ ذَاتَ لَيْلَةٍ وَهِيَ إِلَى جَنْبِهِ قَالَتْ قُلْتُ مَا شَأْنُكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ؟ قَالَتْ فَقَالَ لَيْتَ رَجُلًا صَالِحًا مِنْ أَصْحَابِي يَحْرُسُنِي اللَّيْلَةَ قَالَتْ فَبَيْنَا أَنَا عَلَى ذَلِكَ إِذْ سَمِعْتُ صَوْتَ السِّلَاحِ فَقَالَ مَنْ هَذَا؟ قَالَ أَنَا سَعْدُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ فَقَالَ مَا جَاءَ بِكَ؟ قَالَ جِئْتُ لِأَحْرُسَكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ قَالَتْ فَسَمِعْتُ غَطِيطَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فِي نَوْمِهِ

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ stayed awake one night, and I was lying next to him. I said, "What is the matter, O Messenger of Allah?" أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ سَهِرَ ذَاتَ لَيْلَةٍ وَهِيَ إِلَى جَنْبِهِ قَالَتْ فَقُلْتُ مَا شَأْنُكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ؟ قَالَ «لَيْتَ رَجُلًا صَالِحًا مِنْ أَصْحَابِي يَحْرُسُنِي اللَّيْلَةَ» قَالَتْ فَبَيْنَا نَحْنُ كَذَلِكَ إِذْ سَمِعْتُ صَوْتَ السِّلَاحِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «مَنْ هَذَا؟ » قَالَ سَعْدُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ قَالَ «مَا جَاءَ بِكَ؟ » قَالَ جِئْتُ لِأَحْرُسَكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ فَسَمِعْتُ غَطِيطَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فِي نَوْمِهِ

[AI] The Prophet ﷺ used to stay up at night when he first arrived in Medina and said, "I wish a righteous man from my companions would guard me tonight." While we were in that state, we heard the sound of weapons. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Who is this?" Saad said, "It is I, Saad. I have come to guard you." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Let the Messenger of Allah rest."

كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فِي أَوَّلِ مَا قَدِمَ الْمَدِينَةَ يَسْهَرُ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ فَقَالَ «لَيْتَ رَجُلًا صَالِحًا مِنْ أَصْحَابِي يَحْرُسُنِي اللَّيْلَةَ» فَبَيْنَا نَحْنُ كَذَلِكَ إِذْ سَمِعْنَا صَوْتَ السِّلَاحِ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «مَنْ هَذَا؟» قَالَ أَنَا سَعْدٌ جِئْتُ أَحْرُسُكَ قَالَتْ «وَنَامَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ»

سَهِرَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ مَقْدِمَهُ الْمَدِينَةَ لَيْلَةً قَالَ «لَيْتَ رَجُلًا صَالِحًا مِنْ أَصْحَابِي يَحْرُسُنِي اللَّيْلَةَ» قَالَ «فَبَيْنَا نَحْنُ كَذَلِكَ إِذْ سَمِعْنَا خَشْخَشَةَ سِلَاحٍ» فَقَالَ «مَنْ هَذَا؟» قَالَ سَعْدُ بْنُ أَبِي وَقَّاصٍ فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «مَا جَاءَ بِكَ؟» قَالَ سَعْدٌ «وَقَعَ فِي نَفْسِي خَوْفٌ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَجِئْتُ أَحْرُسُهُ فَدَعَا لَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ ثُمَّ نَامَ»

"بينا رسول الله ﷺ مضطجع إلى جنبي ذات ليلة قال: ليت

رجلا من أصحابي يحرسني الليلة، فبينا أنا على ذلك إذ سمعنا صوت السلاح فقال: من هذا؟ قال: أنا سعد بن أبي وقاص جئت لأحرسك، فجلس يحرسه، ونام رسول الله ﷺ حتى سمعت غطيطه".
