"عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ ثَابِتٍ قَالَ: كُنَّا مَعَ رَسُولِ الله ﷺ فِى غَزْوَةِ (تَبُوكَ) خيبر، فَأَصَابَنَا (*) ضِبَابًا، فَاشْتَوَى النَّاسُ مِنْهَا، وَاشْتَوَيْتُ، ثُمَّ أتَيْتُ النَّبِىَّ ﷺ فَوَضَعْتهُ بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ، فَأَخَذَ عُودًا فَجَعَلَ يَعُدُّ أَصَابِعَهُ، فَقَالَ: إِنَّ أُمَّةً مِنَ الأُمَمِ مُسِخَتْ دَوَابَّ، فَلَا أَدْرِى أَىّ أُمَّةٍ هِىَ؟ فَلَمْ يَأَكُلْ مِنْهَا. فَقُلْتُ لَهُ: إِنَّ النَّاسَ قَدْ أَكَلُوا مِنْهَا. فَلمْ يَأمُرْهُمْ وَلَمْ يَنْهَهُمْ".

He then said: A group from the children of Isra'il was transformed into an animal of the land, and I do not know which animal it was. He did not eat it nor did he forbid (its eating).

"We were with the Prophet on a journey. We stopped to camp and the people caught some mastigures. I took a mastigure and grilled it, and brought it to the Prophet. He took a palm stalk, and started counting his fingers with it, and said: 'A nation from among the children of Israel was turned into beasts of the Earth, and I do not know what kind of animals they were, I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, the people have eaten some of them.' He did not tell them to eat it, and he did not forbid them from eating it."

“We were with the Prophet ﷺ and the people caught a mastigure. They grilled it and ate from it. Then I caught a mastigure so I grilled it and brought it to the Prophet ﷺ. [AI] "We encountered fog while we were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in some of his battles. The people started to cook and roast some animals. Then he said, 'Indeed, a nation from the Children of Israel was transformed into animals on Earth, and I don't know which animals they were.' اصْطَدْنَا ضِبَابًا وَنَحْنُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فِي بَعْضِ مَغَازِيهِ قَالَ فَطَبَخَ النَّاسُ وَشَوَوْا قَالَ فَأَخَذْتُ ضَبًّا فَشَوَيْتُهُ فَأَتَيْتُ بِهِ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَوَضَعَهُ بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ فَأَخَذَ عُودًا فَجَعَلَ يُقَلِّبُ بِهِ أَصَابِعَهُ أَوْ يَعُدُّهَا ثُمَّ قَالَ إِنَّ أُمَّةً مِنْ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ مُسِخَتْ دَوَابَّ فِي الْأَرْضِ وَإِنِّي لَا أَدْرِي أَيَّ الدَّوَابِّ هِيَ قَالَ قُلْتُ إِنَّ النَّاسَ قَدْ شَوَوْا قَالَ فَلَمْ يَأْكُلْ مِنْهُ وَلَمْ يَنْهَهُمْ عَنْهُ

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ أُتِيَ بِضَبٍّ قَدْ شُوِيَ فَأَخَذَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ عُودًا فَجَعَلَ يَعُدُّ أَصَابِعَهُ ثُمَّ قَالَ «أُمَّةٌ مِنْ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ مُسِخَتْ دَوَابَّ فِي الْأَرْضِ وَإِنِّي لَا أَدْرِي أَيَّ دَوَابَّ هِيَ» فَلَمْ يَأْكُلْ مِنْهُ وَلَمْ يَنْهُ عَنْهُ
