We were behind the Messenger of Allah ﷺ at the dawn prayer, and he recited (the passage), but the recitation became difficult for him. Then when he finished, he said: Perhaps you recite behind your imam? We replied: Yes, it is so, Messenger of Allah. He said: Do not do so except when it is Fatihat al-Kitab, for he who does not recite it is not credited with having prayed.

كُنَّا خَلْفَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فِي صَلاَةِ الْفَجْرِ فَقَرَأَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَثَقُلَتْ عَلَيْهِ الْقِرَاءَةُ فَلَمَّا فَرَغَ قَالَ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَقْرَءُونَ خَلْفَ إِمَامِكُمْ قُلْنَا نَعَمْ هَذَا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ لاَ تَفْعَلُوا إِلاَّ بِفَاتِحَةِ الْكِتَابِ فَإِنَّهُ لاَ صَلاَةَ لِمَنْ لَمْ يَقْرَأْ بِهَا

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed with us and recited, and the recitation became difficult for him. When he finished, he said, "Do you recite?" We said, "Yes, O Messenger of Allah." He said, "Do not recite except with the Opening of the Book (Surah Al-Fatiha), for there is no prayer without it."

صَلَّى بِنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَرَأَ فَثَقُلَتْ عَلَيْهِ الْقِرَاءَةُ فَلَمَّا فَرَغَ قَالَ تَقْرَءُونَ؟ قُلْنَا نَعَمْ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ قَالَ لَا عَلَيْكُمْ أَنْ لَا تَفْعَلُوا إِلَّا بِفَاتِحَةِ الْكِتَابِ؛ فَإِنَّهُ لَا صَلَاةَ إِلَّا بِهَا

"Messenger of Allah prayed the Subh prayer, and he had difficulty with the recitation. When turned (after finishing) he said: 'I think that you are reciting behind your Imam?'" He said: "We said: 'Yes, Messenger of Allah, by Allah!' He said: 'Do not do that, except for Umm Al-Kitab, for there is no Salat for one who does not recite it.'" He said, "Do not do so, except with the mother of the Book (meaning Al-Fatiha) because there is no prayer for the one who does not recite it."

"إِنِّى أَرَاكُمْ تقرءُونَ وراءَ إِمامكُم فلا تفْعلوا إِلَّا بأُمِّ القُرْآن فإنَّه لا صلاةَ لمنْ لمْ يَقْرأْ بها" .

"لَعَلَّكُمْ تَقْرَءُونَ خَلْفَ إِمَامكُمْ؟ لَا تَفْعَلُوا إِلَّا بفَاتِحَةِ الْكتَابِ، فإِنَّهُ لَا صَلاةَ لِمَنْ لَم يَقْرَأ بِهَا".

"لَعَلَّكُمْ تَقْرَأُونَ وَالإِمَام يَقْرَأُ؟ فَلَا تَفْعَلُوا إِلَّا أنْ يَقْرَأَ أحَدُكُم بِفَاتِحَةِ الْكِتَابِ".

"عَنْ عبادة بن الصَّامت قال: صَلَّى بنا رَسُول الله ﷺ الفجر، فثقلت عليه القراءة، فلما انصرف قال: إنى أراكم تقرءون وراء إمامكم، قلنا: أجل! والله يا رسول الله هذا، قال: فلا تفعلوا إلَّا فاتحة الكتاب، فإنَّه لا صلاة لمن لم يقرأ بها".
