(The wife of the Prophet) Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Don't you see that when your people built the Kaʿba, they did not build it on all Abraham's foundations?" I said, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! Why don't you rebuild it on Abraham's foundations?" He said, "Were your people not so close to (the period of Heathenism, i.e. the Period between their being Muslims and being infidels), I would do so." The sub-narrator, ʿAbdullah bin ʿUmar said, "Aisha had surely heard Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying that, for I do not think that Messenger of Allah ﷺ left touching the two corners of the Kaʿba facing Al-Hijr except because the Kaʿba was not built on all Abraham's foundations."  

عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ؓ زَوْجِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ أَلَمْ تَرَىْ أَنَّ قَوْمَكِ بَنَوُا الْكَعْبَةَ وَاقْتَصَرُوا عَنْ قَوَاعِدِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَلاَ تَرُدُّهَا عَلَى قَوَاعِدِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ قَالَ لَوْلاَ حِدْثَانُ قَوْمِكِ بِالْكُفْرِ فَقَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ لَئِنْ كَانَتْ عَائِشَةُ سَمِعَتْ هَذَا مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ مَا أُرَى رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ تَرَكَ اسْتِلاَمَ الرُّكْنَيْنِ اللَّذَيْنِ يَلِيَانِ الْحِجْرَ إِلاَّ أَنَّ الْبَيْتَ لَمْ يُتَمَّمْ عَلَى قَوَاعِدِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ  

Yahya related to me from Malik from Ibn Shihab from Salim ibn Abdullah that Abdullah ibn Muhammad ibn Abi Bakras-Siddiq told Abdullah ibn Umar from A'isha, that the Prophet ﷺ said, "Don't you see that when your people built the Kaba they fell short of the foundations of Ibrahim?" A'isha said, "Messenger of Allah, won't you return it to the foundations of Ibrahim?" and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "If it were not that your people have only recently left kufr, I would have done so." Salim ibn Abdullah said that Abdullah ibn Umar said, "If A'isha heard this from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ then I consider that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ only refrained from greeting the two corners which are adjacent to the Hijr because the House had not been completed on the foundations of Ibrahim." (i.e. the corners he did not touch were not the original corners of the Kaba) .  

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَ أَلَمْ تَرَىْ أَنَّ قَوْمَكِ حِينَ بَنَوُا الْكَعْبَةَ اقْتَصَرُوا عَنْ قَوَاعِدِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ قَالَتْ فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَفَلاَ تَرُدُّهَا عَلَى قَوَاعِدِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ لَوْلاَ حِدْثَانُ قَوْمِكِ بِالْكُفْرِ لَفَعَلْتُ قَالَ فَقَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ لَئِنْ كَانَتْ عَائِشَةُ سَمِعَتْ هَذَا مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ مَا أُرَى رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ تَرَكَ اسْتِلاَمَ الرُّكْنَيْنِ اللَّذَيْنِ يَلِيَانِ الْحِجْرَ إِلاَّ أَنَّ الْبَيْتَ لَمْ يُتَمَّمْ عَلَى قَوَاعِدِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ  

"Don't you see that when your people (re)built the Kabah, they did not build it on all the foundations laid by Ibrahim, peace be upon him?" I said: "O Messenger of Allah, why do you not rebuild it on the foundation of Ihrahim, peace be upon him?" He said: "Were it not for the fact that your people have recently left disbelief (I would have done so)." Abdullah bin Umar said: "Aishah heard this from the Messenger of Allah, for I see that he would not touch the two corners facing Al-Hijr because the House not built on the foundations of Ihrahim, peace be upon him?" أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَ لَهَا أَلَمْ تَرَيْ أَنَّ قَوْمَكِ حِينَ بَنَوْا الْكَعْبَةَ اسْتَقْصَرُوا عَلَى قَوَاعِدِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ؟ فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَفَلَا تَرُدُّهَا عَلَى قَوَاعِدِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ؟ فَقَالَ لَوْلَا حِدْثَانُ قَوْمِكِ بِالْكُفْرِ فَقَالَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ إِنْ كَانَتْ عَائِشَةُ سَمِعَتْ هَذَا الْحَدِيثَ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَلَا أَرَى رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ تَرَكَ اسْتِلَامَ الرُّكْنَيْنِ اللَّذَيْنِ يَلِيَانِ الْحَجَرَ إِلَّا أَنَّ الْبَيْتَ لَمْ يُتَمَّ عَلَى قَوَاعِدِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ  

(the wife of the Prophet) that Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to her, "Do you know that when your people (Quraish) rebuilt the Kaʿba, they decreased it from its original foundation laid by Abraham?" I said, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! Why don't you rebuild it on its original foundation laid by Abraham?" He replied, "Were it not for the fact that your people are close to the Pre-Islamic Period of ignorance (i.e. they have recently become Muslims) I would have done so." The sub-narrator, ʿAbdullah (bin ʿUmar ) stated: ʿAisha 'must have heard this from Messenger of Allah ﷺ for in my opinion Messenger of Allah ﷺ had not placed his hand over the two corners of the Kaʿba opposite Al-Hijr only because the Kaʿba was not rebuilt on its original foundations laid by Abraham. أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ «أَلَمْ تَرَيْ أَنَّ قَوْمَكِ حِينَ بَنَوَا الْكَعْبَةَ اقْتَصَرُوا عَنْ قَوَاعِدِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ؟» فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَلَا تَرُدُّهَا عَلَى قَوَاعِدَ إِبْرَاهِيمَ قَالَ «لَوْلَا حِدْثَانُ قَوْمِكِ بِالْكُفْرِ» فَقَالَ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ لَئِنْ كَانَتْ عَائِشَةُ سَمِعَتْ هَذَا مِنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ مَا أَرَى رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ تَرَكَ اسْتِلَامَ الرُّكْنَيْنِ اللَّذَيْنِ يَلِيَانِ الْحِجْرَ إِلَّا أَنَّ الْبَيْتَ لَمْ يَتِمَّ عَلَى قَوَاعِدِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ
