"The Prophet walked rapidly betwwne As-Safa and Al-Marwah to show the idolaters that he was strong." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 2979)  

الكبرى للنسائي:٣٩٥٩ – أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَمَّارٍ الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ حُرَيْثٍ الْمَرْوَزِيُّ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ عَمْرٍو عَنْ عَطَاءٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ

إِنَّمَا «سَعَى رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بَيْنَ الصَّفَا وَالْمَرْوَةِ لِيُرِيَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ قُوَّتَهُ»

The Prophet ﷺ hastened in going around the Kaʿba and between the Safa and Marwa in order to show the pagans his strength. Ibn ʿAbbas added, "When the Prophet ﷺ arrived (at Mecca) in the year of peace (following that of Al-Hudaibiya treaty with the pagans of Mecca), he (ordered his companions) to do Ramal in order to show their strength to the pagans and the pagans were watching (the Muslims) from (the hill of) Quaiqan.  

البخاري:٤٢٥٧ – حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدٌ عَنْ سُفْيَانَ بْنِ عُيَيْنَةَ عَنْ عَمْرٍو عَنْ عَطَاءٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ؓ قَالَ

إِنَّمَا سَعَى النَّبِيُّ ﷺ بِالْبَيْتِ وَبَيْنَ الصَّفَا وَالْمَرْوَةِ لِيُرِيَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ قُوَّتَهُ  

muslim:1266b – ʿAmr al-Nāqid And Ibn Abū ʿUmar And ʾAḥmad b. ʿAbdah > Ibn ʿUyaynah > Ibn ʿAbdah > Sufyān > ʿAmr > ʿAṭāʾ > Ibn ʿAbbās

Allah. 's Messenger (peace be upon him) observed Sa'i and walked quickly round the House with a view to showing his strength to the polytheists.  

مسلم:١٢٦٦b – وَحَدَّثَنِي عَمْرٌو النَّاقِدُ وَابْنُ أَبِي عُمَرَ وَأَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدَةَ جَمِيعًا عَنِ ابْنِ عُيَيْنَةَ قَالَ ابْنُ عَبْدَةَ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ عَمْرٍو عَنْ عَطَاءٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ

"The Messenger of Allah only performed the Sa'i of the House and of As-Safa and Al-Marwah to show his strength to the idolaters."  

الترمذي:٨٦٣ – حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ دِينَارٍ عَنْ طَاوُسٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ

إِنَّمَا سَعَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ بِالْبَيْتِ وَبَيْنَ الصَّفَا وَالْمَرْوَةِ لِيُرِيَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ قُوَّتَهُ قَالَ وَفِي الْبَابِ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ وَابْنِ عُمَرَ وَجَابِرٍ  

قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى حَدِيثُ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ وَهُوَ الَّذِي يَسْتَحِبُّهُ أَهْلُ الْعِلْمِ أَنْ يَسْعَى بَيْنَ الصَّفَا وَالْمَرْوَةِ فَإِنْ لَمْ يَسْعَ وَمَشَى بَيْنَ الصَّفَا وَالْمَرْوَةِ رَأَوْهُ جَائِزًا

إِنَّمَا سَعَى رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بِالْبَيْتِ وَبَيْنَ الصَّفَا وَالْمَرْوَةِ؛ لِيُرِيَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ قُوَّتَهُ
