The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade the wisal (continuous fasting) out of mercy for them. They said, “But you practice wisal.” He replied, “I am not like you; my Lord feeds me and gives me drink.”

نَهَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَنِ الْوِصَالِ رَحْمَةً لَهُمْ، فَقَالُوا: إِنَّكَ تُوَاصِلُ، قَالَ: «إِنِّي لَسْتُ كَهَيْئَتِكُمْ، إِنِّي يُطْعِمُنِي رَبِّي وَيَسْقِينِ».

The Prophet ﷺ said twice, "(O you people) Be cautious! Do not practice Al-Wisal." The people said to him, "But you practice Al-Wisal?" The Prophet ﷺ replied, "My Lord gives me food and drink during my sleep. Do that much of deeds which is within your ability."

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ إِيَّاكُمْ وَالْوِصَالَ مَرَّتَيْنِ قِيلَ إِنَّكَ تُوَاصِلُ قَالَ إِنِّي أَبِيتُ يُطْعِمُنِي رَبِّي وَيَسْقِينِ فَاكْلَفُوا مِنَ الْعَمَلِ مَا تُطِيقُونَ

Abstain from Saum-Wisal. They (his Companions) said: Messenger of Allah, but you observe Saum Wisal. Upon this he said: You are not like me in this matter, for I spend my night (in a state) that my Lord feeds me and provides me drink Devote yourselves to the deeds (the burden of which) you can bear.

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِيَّاكُمْ وَالْوِصَالَ قَالُوا فَإِنَّكَ تُوَاصِلُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ إِنَّكُمْ لَسْتُمْ فِي ذَلِكَ مِثْلِي إِنِّي أَبِيتُ يُطْعِمُنِي رَبِّي وَيَسْقِينِي فَاكْلَفُوا مِنَ الأَعْمَالِ مَا تُطِيقُونَ

Yahya related to me from Malik from Abu'z-Zinad from al-Araj from Abu Hurayra that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Beware of wisal. Beware of wisal." They said, "But you practise wisal, Messenger of Allah." He replied, "I am not the same as you. My Lord feeds me and gives me to drink."

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ إِيَّاكُمْ وَالْوِصَالَ إِيَّاكُمْ وَالْوِصَالَ قَالُوا فَإِنَّكَ تُوَاصِلُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ إِنِّي لَسْتُ كَهَيْئَتِكُمْ إِنِّي أَبِيتُ يُطْعِمُنِي رَبِّي وَيَسْقِينِي

Abstain from Saum-Wisal. They (his Companions) said: Messenger of Allah, but you observe Saum Wisal. Upon this he said: You are not like me in this matter, for I spend my night (in a state) that my Lord feeds me and provides me drink Devote yourselves to the deeds (the burden of which) you can bear. قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِيَّاكُمْ وَالْوِصَالَ قَالَهَا ثَلَاثَ مِرَارٍ قَالُوا فَإِنَّكَ تُوَاصِلُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ؟ قَالَ إِنَّكُمْ لَسْتُمْ فِي ذَلِكَ مِثْلِي إِنِّي أَبِيتُ يُطْعِمُنِي رَبِّي وَيَسْقِينِي فَاكْلَفُوا مِنَ الْأَعْمَالِ مَا تُطِيقُونَ

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Beware of excessive intimacy." They said, "But aren't you engaged in intimacy, O Messenger of Allah?" He replied, "I am not like you in that regard. Indeed, my Lord nourishes me and quenches my thirst, so take on actions that you are capable of."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِيَّاكُمْ وَالْوِصَالَ قَالُوا فَإِنَّكَ تُوَاصِلُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ؟ قَالَ إِنِّي لَسْتُ فِي ذَلِكَ مِثْلَكُمْ إِنِّي أَظَلُّ يُطْعِمُنِي رَبِّي وَيَسْقِينِي فَاكْلَفُوا مِنَ الْأَعْمَالِ مَا لَكُمْ بِهِ طَاقَةٌ

[Machine] "On the authority of the Prophet ﷺ, he said: Beware of excessive physical contact between the opposite genders; they said, 'But Messenger of Allah, you engage in contact with others.' He said, 'Indeed, I am not like you in this matter. My Lord gives me food and drink, so do not burden yourselves with actions that you are not capable of.'"

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ إِيَّاكُمْ وَالْوِصَالَ مَرَّتَيْنِ قَالُوا فَإِنَّكَ تُوَاصِلُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ قَالَ إِنِّي لَسْتُ فِي ذَلِكَ مِثْلَكُمْ إِنِّي أَبِيتُ يُطْعِمُنِي رَبِّي وَيَسْقِينِي فَلَا تُكَلِّفُوا أَنْفُسَكُمْ مِنَ الْعَمَلِ مَا لَيْسَ لَكُمْ بِهِ طَاقَةٌ

[Machine] And the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Beware of excessive attachment. Beware of excessive attachment." They said, "Are you admonishing us, O Messenger of Allah?" He said, "I am not like you. I spend the night being fed and quenched by my Lord, so perform actions according to your capacity."

وَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِيَّاكُمْ وَالْوِصَالَ إِيَّاكُمْ وَالْوِصَالَ قَالُوا إِنَّكَ تُوَاصِلُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ قَالَ إِنِّي لَسْتُ فِي ذَاكُمْ مِثْلُكُمْ إِنِّي أَبِيتُ يُطْعِمُنِي رَبِّي وَيَسْقِينِي فَاكْلَفُوا مِنَ الْعَمَلِ مَا لَكُمْ بِهِ طَاقَةٌ

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ prohibited mingling. It was said, "O Messenger of Allah, you engage in mingling." He replied, "I am not like you, indeed, I remain in the company of my Lord and He feeds me and gives me drink."

نَهَى رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ عَنِ الْوِصَالِ قَالَ قِيلَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّكَ تُوَاصِلُ قَالَ إِنِّي لَسْتُ مِثْلَكُمْ إِنِّي أَظَلُّ عِنْدَ رَبِّي يُطْعِمُنِي وَيَسْقِينِي

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Beware of excessive companionship. Beware of excessive companionship. Beware of excessive companionship. This is my knowledge." They said, "Are you avoiding social interaction?" He said, "I am not like any of you. Indeed, my Lord feeds me and gives me drink."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِيَّاكُمْ وَالْوِصَالَ إِيَّاكُمْ وَالْوِصَالَ إِيَّاكُمْ وَالْوِصَالَ كَذَاكَ عِلْمِي قَالُوا إِنَّكَ تُوَاصِلُ؟ قَالَ إِنِّي لَسْتُ كَأَحَدِكُمْ إِنِّي أَبِيتُ يُطْعِمُنِي رَبِّي وَيَسْقِينِي

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Beware of excessive attachment." They said, "O Messenger of Allah, you frequently engage in companionship." He said, "I am not like any one of you. Indeed, my Lord feeds me and provides me with drink."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِيَّاكُمْ وَالْوِصَالَ قَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّكَ تُوَاصِلُ قَالَ إِنِّي لَسْتُ كَأَحَدٍ مِنْكُمْ إِنِّي أَبِيتُ يُطْعِمُنِي رَبِّي وَيَسْقِينِي

[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ forbade al-wisal. They said, "But you practice al-wisal." He said, "You are not like me. Indeed, Allah feeds me and quenches my thirst." And he said, "Indeed, I spend the night while my Lord feeds me and quenches my thirst."

نَهَى رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ عَنِ الْوِصَالِ قَالُواإِنَّكَ تُوَاصِلُ قَالَ إِنَّكُمْ لَسْتُمْ كَهَيْئَتِي إِنَّ اللهَ حِبِّي يُطْعِمُنِي وَيَسْقِينِ وَقَالَ يَزِيدُ إِنِّي أَبِيتُ يُطْعِمُنِي رَبِّي وَيَسْقِينِي

[Machine] And he said, "Beware of excessive companionship." They said, "But you are constantly in the company of others, O Messenger of Allah." He said, "Indeed, I am not like you. I spend the night being fed and quenched by my Lord. So fulfill what you are capable of."

وَقَالَ إِيَّاكُمْ وَالْوِصَالَ قَالُوا فَإِنَّكَ تُوَاصِلُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ قَالَ إِنِّي لَسْتُ فِي ذَا مِثْلَكُمْ إِنِّي أَبِيتُ يُطْعِمُنِي رَبِّي وَيَسْقِينِي فَاكْلَفُوا مَا لَكُمْ بِهِ طَاقَةٌ

[Machine] From the Prophet ﷺ, he said: "I prohibited prolonged seclusion." They said: "But you engage in it." He replied: "I am not like you, indeed I am in the shade of my Lord, who feeds me and provides me with drink. Engage in actions as much as you are able to bear."

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ نَهَى عَنِ الْوِصَالِ قَالُوا إِنَّكَ تُوَاصِلُ قَالَ إِنِّي لَسْتُ مِثْلَكُمْ إِنِّي أَظَلُّ عِنْدَ رَبِّي يُطْعِمُنِي وَيَسْقِينِي اكْلَفُوا مِنَ الْأَعْمَالِ مَا تُطِيقُونَ

[Machine] "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade seeking proximity through acts of worship. It was said, 'But you constantly engage in acts of worship.' He replied, 'Indeed, I spend the night while my Lord feeds me and provides me with drink.'"

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ نَهَى عَنِ الْوِصَالِ قَالَ فَقِيلَ إِنَّكَ تُوَاصِلُ قَالَ إِنِّي أَبِيتُ يُطْعِمُنِي رَبِّي وَيَسْقِينِي

[Machine] It was narrated that the Prophet ﷺ forbade being in constant companionship. It was said to him, "You associate with others." He said, "Indeed, I spend the night being fed and quenched by my Lord."

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ نَهَى عَنِ الْوِصَالِ قَالَ قِيلَ لَهُ إِنَّكَ تُوَاصِلُ قَالَ إِنِّي أَبِيتُ يُطْعِمُنِي رَبِّي وَيَسْقِينِي

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade being in constant contact. So, it was asked, "O Messenger of Allah, do you not maintain relationships?" He replied, "Indeed, I spend my nights being fed and provided with drink by my Lord."

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ نَهَى عَنِ الْوِصَالِ فَقِيلَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ فَإِنَّكَ تُوَاصِلُ؟ قَالَ إِنِّي أَبِيتُ يُطْعِمُنِي رَبِّي وَيَسْقِينِي

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Beware of excessive attachment (to worldly things)." They asked, "But you, O Messenger of Allah, are continuously connected to such things." He replied, "Indeed, I am not like you. I spend the night while my Lord feeds me and quenches my thirst."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «إِيَّاكُمْ وَالْوِصَالَ» مَرَّتَيْنِ قَالُوا فَإِنَّكَ تُوَاصِلُ قَالَ «إِنِّي لَسْتُ مِثْلَكُمْ إِنِّي أَبِيتُ يُطْعِمُنِي رَبِّي وَيَسْقِينِي»

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Beware of excessive socializing, beware of excessive socializing." They said, "But you engage in socializing, O Messenger of Allah." He said, "I am not like you in that matter. Indeed, my Lord keeps me fed and gives me to drink. So, perform deeds within your capability."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «إِيَّاكُمْ وَالْوِصَالَ إِيَّاكُمْ وَالْوِصَالَ» قَالُوا فَإِنَّكَ تُوَاصِلُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ فَقَالَ «إِنِّي لَسْتُ فِي ذَلِكَ مِثْلَكُمْ إِنِّي أَبِيتُ يُطْعِمُنِي رَبِّي وَيَسْقِينِي فَاكْلَفُوا مِنَ الْعَمَلِ مَا لَكُمْ بِهِ طَاقَةٌ»

[Machine] From the Prophet ﷺ, it is narrated that he forbade excessive socialization. It was said to him, "But you maintain frequent communication with people." He replied, "You are not like me. I have a sustainer who feeds me and gives me drink. So, whoever amongst you continues to maintain constant communication, it is from one magic spell to another."

عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَنَّهُ نَهَى عَنِ الْوِصَالِ فَقِيلَ لَهُ فَإِنَّكَ تُوَاصِلُ قَالَ «لَسْتُمْ كَهَيْئَتِي إِنِّي أَبِيتُ لِيَ مُطْعِمٌ يُطْعِمُنِي وَسَاقٍ يَسْقِيَنِي فَأَيُّكُمْ وَاصَلَ فَمِنْ سَحَرٍ إِلَى سَحَرٍ»

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , said: Beware of excessive companionship. They said: But you keep company with people, O Messenger of Allah! He said: I am not like you. My Lord feeds me and gives me drink. So, engage yourselves in activities that you are capable of.

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِيَّاكُمْ وَالْوِصَالَ قَالُوا فَإِنَّكَ تُوَاصِلُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ قَالَ إِنِّي لَسْتُ فِي ذَاكُمْ مِثْلَكُمْ إِنِّي أَبِيتُ يُطْعِمُنِي رَبِّي وَيَسْقِينِي فَاكْلَفُوا مِنَ الْعَمَلِ مَا لَكُمْ بِهِ طَاقَةٌ

اللَّهُ عَلَيه وَسَلَّم إياكم والوصال قالوا يَا رَسولَ اللهِ إِنَّكَ تُوَاصِلُ قَالَ إِنِّي لست مثلكم إني أبيت يطعمني ربي ويسقيني

عَنِ الْوِصَالِ فَقِيلَ يَا رَسولَ اللهِ إِنَّكَ تُوَاصِلُ قَالَ إِنِّي أَبِيتُ يُطْعِمُنِي رَبِّي وَيَسْقِينِي

"إيَّاكُمْ وَالوِصَالَ، قيلَ: إِنَّكَ تُوَاصِلُ. قَال: إِنَّكُمْ لَسْتُمْ في ذَلِكَ مِثْلِى إِنِّى أبِيتُ يُطعِمُنِى ربِّى وَيَسْقِينِى، فاكْلُفُوا مِنَ العَمَلِ مَا تُطِيقُون"

"لَا تُوَاصِلُوا، قَالُوا: إِنَّكَ تُوَاصِلُ، قَالَ: فَإِنِّى لَسْتُ مِنْكُم؛ إِنِّى أَبِيتُ يُطعِمُنِى رَبِّى وَيَسْقِينِى".
