4. Book of Fasting
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Beware of excessive attachment (to worldly things)." They asked, "But you, O Messenger of Allah, are continuously connected to such things." He replied, "Indeed, I am not like you. I spend the night while my Lord feeds me and quenches my thirst."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Do not continue." It was said, "Indeed, you do that." He said, "I am not like any one of you. I am fed and provided with drink."
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ as saying: Do not observe perpetual fasting. If any of you wants to observe perpetual fast, he should observe it until the dawn. They (the people) asked: You observe perpetual fast ? He replied: My position is not like that of yours. There is One Who gives me to eat, and there is One who gives me to drink. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 2361)
Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade Al-Wisal in fasting. So, one of the Muslims said to him, "But you practice Al- Wisal. O Messenger of Allah ﷺ!" The Prophet ﷺ replied, "Who amongst you is similar to me? I am given food and drink during my sleep by my Lord." So, when the people refused to stop Al-Wisal (fasting continuously), the Prophet ﷺ fasted day and night continuously along with them for a day and then another day and then they saw the crescent moon (of the month of Shawwal). The Prophet ﷺ said to them (angrily), "If It (the crescent) had not appeared, I would have made you fast for a longer period." That was as a punishment for them when they refused to stop (practicing Al-Wisal). (Using translation from Bukhārī 1965)
[Machine] "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ went out during the year of the conquest and he fasted. The people also fasted until reaching al-Qadeed (a place). Then, he broke his fast and the people broke their fast. They used to follow the latest action of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ."
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ was traveling and saw a crowd, and there was a man sitting in the shade. He asked, "What is this?" They answered, "This is a fasting person." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Fasting while traveling is not from righteousness."
"It is not righteousness to fast when traveling." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 2261)
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ said, "Fasting while traveling is not counted as an act of righteousness."
