قَالَ قِيلَ يَا رَسولَ اللهِ أَرَأَيْتَ الَّذِينَ مَاتُوا وَهُمْ يُصَلُّونَ إِلَى بَيْتِ الْمَقْدِسِ؟ فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى { وَمَا كَانَ اللَّهُ ليضيع إيمانكم} قَالَ عُبَيد اللَّهِ هَذَا بَيْنَ الصَّلاةِ مِنَ الإيمان

"When the Prophet ﷺ began facing the Ka'bah they said: 'O Messenger of Allah! How about our brothers who died while they were praying toward Bait Al-Maqdis?' So Allah Most High revealed: Allah would not allow your faith to be wasted. (2:143)"

So Allah sent down the verse {And Allah would not let your faith go to waste} [Quran 2:143] until the end of the verse. 'Ubaydullah ibn Musa said, "This hadith informs you that prayer is a part of faith."

[AI] They said, "O Messenger of Allah, what do you think about those who died while they were praying towards Al-Masjid al-Aqsa? So Allah revealed, "Allah would not leave your faith to waste. Indeed, Allah is compassionate and merciful towards people."
قَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَرَأَيْتَ الَّذِينَ مَاتُوا وَهُمْ يُصَلُّونَ إِلَى بَيْتِ الْمَقْدِسِ فَأَنْزَلَ اللهُ ﷻ {مَا كَانَ اللهُ لِيُضِيعَ إِيمَانَكُمْ إِنَّ اللهَ بِالنَّاسِ لرءُوفٌ رَحِيمٌ}
[AI] That they turn to the Kaaba and men were killed, so we did not know what to say about them. Then Allah revealed {And Allah would not let your faith be lost. Indeed Allah is Kind and Merciful to the people}. It was narrated by Al-Bukhari from Abu Nuaim.
