Ibn Ziyad delayed the prayer. 'Abdullah b. Samit came to me and I placed a chair for him and he sat in it and I made a mention of whit Ibn Ziyad had done. He bit hit lips (as a sign of extreme anger and annoyance) and struck at my thigh and said: I asked Abu Dharr as you have asked me, and he struck my thigh just as I have struck your thigh, and said: I asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ as you have asked me and he struck my thigh just as I have struck your thigh, and he (the Holy Prophet) said: Observe prayer at its prescribed time, and if you can say prayer along with them. do so, and do not say." I have observed prayer and so I shall not pray."

وَقَالَ إِنِّي سَأَلْتُ أَبَا ذَرٍّ كَمَا سَأَلْتَنِي فَضَرَبَ فَخِذِي كَمَا ضَرَبْتُ فَخِذَكَ وَقَالَ إِنِّي سَأَلْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ كَمَا سَأَلْتَنِي فَضَرَبَ فَخِذِي كَمَا ضَرَبْتُ فَخِذَكَ وَقَالَ صَلِّ الصَّلاَةَ لِوَقْتِهَا فَإِنْ أَدْرَكَتْكَ الصَّلاَةُ مَعَهُمْ فَصَلِّ وَلاَ تَقُلْ إِنِّي قَدْ صَلَّيْتُ فَلاَ أُصَلِّي

"Ziyad delayed the prayer, then Ibn Samit came to me and I gave him a chair and he sat on it. I told him what Ziyad had done and he bit his lip (in disapproval), and he struck me on the thigh and said: 'I asked Abu Dharr the same question you asked me, and he struck me on the thigh as I struck you on the thigh and said: I asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ the same question as you have asked me and he struck me on the thigh as I have struck you on the thigh and said: Offer the prayer on time, and if you catch up with them, then pray with them, and do not say: 'I have already prayed so I will not pray(now)."'

“Offer prayer on time, and if you reached the Imam leading them in prayers (on time), then perform it with them, and you will be safe with your prayer, otherwise it will be voluntary for you.”

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ صَلِّ الصَّلاَةَ لِوَقْتِهَا فَإِنْ أَدْرَكْتَ الإِمَامَ يُصَلِّي بِهِمْ فَصَلِّ مَعَهُمْ وَقَدْ أَحْرَزْتَ صَلاَتَكَ وَإِلاَّ فَهِيَ نَافِلَةٌ لَكَ

[AI] My friend Khalil asked Abu Dharr, so he hit my thigh and said, "I asked my friend, meaning the Prophet ﷺ, so he said, 'Pray at its prescribed time. If you catch it, pray with them and do not say, 'I have already prayed, so I will not pray.'"

سَأَلَتُ خَلِيلِي أَبَا ذَرٍّ فَضَرَبَ فَخِذِي وَقَالَ سَأَلْتُ خَلِيلِي يَعْنِي النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَقَالَ صَلِّ لِمِيقَاتِهَافَإِنْ أَدْرَكْتَ فَصَلِّ مَعَهُمْ وَلَا تَقُولَنَّ إِنِّي قَدْ صَلَّيْتُ فَلَا أُصَلِّي

[AI] "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'O Abu Dharr, there will be leaders upon you who will prevent you from performing prayers. If you are able to catch up with them, then pray the prayer at its designated time and make your prayer voluntary along with them.'"

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ يَا أَبَا ذَرٍّ إِنَّهَا سَتَكُونُ عَلَيْكُمْ أَئِمَّةٌ يُمِيتُونَ الصَّلَاةَ فَإِنْ أَدْرَكْتُمُوهُمْ فَصَلُّوا الصَّلَاةَ لِوَقْتِهَا وَاجْعَلُوا صَلَاتَكُمْ مَعَهُمْ نَافِلَةً

[AI] The messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "O Abu Dharr, there will be leaders upon you who will not establish the prayer. If you witness them, then pray the prayer at its time and join your prayer with theirs as Sunnah."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «يَا أَبَا ذَرًّ إِنَّهَا سَتَكُونُ عَلَيْكُمْ أَئِمَّةٌ يُمِيتُونَ الصَّلَاةَ فَإِنْ أَدْرَكْتُمُوهُمْ فَصَلُّوا الصَّلَاةَ لِوَقْتِهَا وَاجْعَلُوا صَلَاتَكُمْ مَعَهُمْ نَافِلَةً»

[AI] There was a prince among the princes who would delay the prayer. So I asked Abu Dharr and he hit my thigh and said, "I asked my intimate friend, meaning the Prophet ﷺ, and he hit my thigh and said, 'Pray the prayer at its specified time. If you catch up with them, pray with them and do not say, 'I have already prayed' for I will not pray with them."

كَانَ أَمِيرٌ مِنَ الْأُمَرَاءِ يُؤَخِّرُ الصَّلَاةَ فَسَأَلْتُ أَبَا ذَرٍّ فَضَرَبَ فَخِذِي فَقَالَ سَأَلْتُ خَلِيلِي يَعْنِي النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَضَرَبَ فَخِذِي فَقَالَ صَلِّ الصَّلَاةَ لِمِيقَاتِهَا فَإِنْ أَدْرَكْتَ فَصَلِّ مَعَهُمْ وَلَا تَقُلْ إِنِّي قَدْ صَلَّيْتُ فَلَنْ أُصَلِّيَ مَعَهُمْ

[AI] He said, "I asked my friend, meaning the Prophet ﷺ, so he hit my thigh and said, 'Pray at their appointed times (the congregational prayers), and if you catch up with them, pray with them and do not say, 'I have already prayed, so I will not pray.'"

وَقَالَ سَأَلْتُ خَلِيلِي يَعْنِي النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَضَرَبَ فَخِذِي فَقَالَ صَلِّ الصَّلَاةَ لِمِيقَاتِهَا فَإِنْ أَدْرَكْتَ فَصَلِّ مَعَهُمْ وَلَا تَقُلْ إِنِّي قَدْ صَلَّيْتُ فَلَا أُصَلِّي

"صَلِّ الصَّلَاةَ لِوَقْتِهَا، فَإِنْ أَدْرَكْتَ مَعَهُمْ فَصَلِّ ولَا تَقُلْ إِنِّى قَدْ صَلَّيْتُ فَلَا أُصَلِّى".

"صَلِّ الصَّلَاةَ لِوَقْتِهَا، فإِنْ أَدْرَكتَ الإِمَامَ يُصَلِّى بِهِم فَصَلِّ مَعَهُم، وَقدْ أَحْرَزْتَ صَلَاتَكَ، وَإِلَّا فَهى نَافِلَةٌ لَكَ".
