A person came to 'Abdullah b. Mas'ud and said: I recited all the mufassal surahs in one rak'ah during the night. 'Abdullah said: You must have recited hastily like the recitation of poetry. 'Abdullah said: I remember well the manner in which the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to combine them, and he then mentioned twenty of the mufassal surahs, and (their combinations in) two in every rak'ah. أحمد:٤١٥٤حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ مُرَّةَ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَبَا وَائِلٍ يُحَدِّثُ أَنَّ رَجُلًا جَاءَ إِلَى ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ فَقَالَ

Ibn Masʿud then mentioned 20 Mufassal Suras including two Suras from the family of (i.e. those verses which begin with) Ha, Meem [??] (which the Prophet ﷺ used to recite) in each rakʿa.

A person from Banu Bajila who was called Nabik b. Sinan came to Abdullah and said: I recite mufassal surahs in one rak'ah. Upon this 'Abdullah said: (You recite) like the recitation of poetry. I know the manner in which the Messenger of Allah ﷺ recited two surahs in one rak'ah.

"I heard Abu Wa'il say: "A man said in the presence of Abdullah: 'I recited Al-Mufassal in one rak'ah.' He said: 'That is like reciting poetry. I know the similar surahs that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to recite together.' And he mentioned twenty surahs from Al-Mufassal, two by two in each rak'ah."

A man came to him and said: "Last night I recited Al-Mufassal in one rak'ah." He said: "That is like reciting poetry. But the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to recite similar surahs, twenty surahs from Al-Mufassal, those that start with Ha-Mim."  

النسائي:١٠٠٦أَخْبَرَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ رَجَاءٍ قَالَ أَنْبَأَنَا إِسْرَائِيلُ عَنْ أَبِي حَصِينٍ عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ وَثَّابٍ عَنْ مَسْرُوقٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ وَأَتَاهُ رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ

[Machine] I read yesterday in detail in one unit. Abdullah said, "Abdullah spread it out like a spreading of flour and a poem like this?" Indeed, I know the similarities that the Messenger of Allahﷺ used to recite together in two units.
