When it was the day of Khaybar, a group of the Prophet’s Companions came forward and said: “So-and-so is a martyr, so-and-so is a martyr,” until they passed by a man and said: “So-and-so is a martyr.” The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “No indeed. I saw him in the Fire, in a cloak that he had taken unlawfully ˹from the spoils˺, or a mantle.”

Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “O son of al-Khattab, go and announce among the people: None will enter Paradise except the believers.” He said: So I went out and proclaimed: “Behold, none will enter Paradise except the believers.”

لَمَّا كَانَ يَوْمُ خَيْبَرَ، أَقْبَلَ نَفَرٌ مِنْ صَحَابَةِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ، فَقَالُوا: فُلَانٌ شَهِيدٌ، فُلَانٌ شَهِيدٌ، حَتَّى مَرُّوا عَلَى رَجُلٍ، فَقَالُوا: فُلَانٌ شَهِيدٌ. فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ: «كَلَّا، إِنِّي رَأَيْتُهُ فِي النَّارِ، فِي بُرْدَةٍ غَلَّهَا، أَوْ عَبَاءَةٍ».

ثُمَّ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ: «يَا ابْنَ الْخَطَّابِ، اذْهَبْ فَنَادِ فِي النَّاسِ: إِنَّهُ لَا يَدْخُلُ الْجَنَّةَ إِلَّا الْمُؤْمِنُونَ». قَالَ: فَخَرَجْتُ فَنَادَيْتُ: أَلَا إِنَّهُ لَا يَدْخُلُ الْجَنَّةَ إِلَّا الْمُؤْمِنُونَ.

On the day of Khaibar, a group of the companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: So and so is a martyr, So and so is a martyr, until they passed by a man and said: So and so is a martyr. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: ʿNo, I saw him being dragged to Hell because of a cloak that he stole from the booty. Go out and call out to the people, “No one will enter Paradise except the believers.ʿ So I went out and called out: No one will enter Paradise except the believers.

لَمَّا كَانَ يَوْمُ خَيْبَرَ أَقْبَلَ نَفَرٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُونَ فُلانٌ شَهِيدٌ وَفُلانٌ شَهِيدٌ حَتَّى مَرُّوا بِرَجُلٍ فَقَالُوا فُلانٌ شَهِيدٌ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ كَلَّا إِنِّي رَأَيْتُهُ يُجَرُّ إِلَى النَّارِ فِي عَبَاءَةٍ غَلَّهَا اخْرُجْ يَا عُمَرُ فَنَادِ فِي النَّاسِ إِنَّهُ لَا يَدْخُلُ الْجَنَّةَ إِلَّا الْمُؤْمِنُونَ فَخَرَجْتُ فَنَادَيْتُ إِنَّهُ لَا يَدْخُلُ الْجَنَّةَ إِلَّا الْمُؤْمِنُونَ

[Machine] A person was killed on the day of Khaybar, and they said, "So-and-so is a martyr," until they mentioned a man. They said, "So-and-so is a martyr." Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "No, indeed I saw him in Hell, wearing a cloak or a coarse garment." Then he said to me, "O Ibn Al-Khattab, get up and announce among the people that no one will enter Paradise except the believers." So I stood up and called out to the people.

قُتِلَ نَفَرٌ يَوْمَ خَيْبَرَ فَقَالُوا فُلَانٌ شَهِيدٌ حَتَّى ذَكَرُوا رَجُلًا فَقَالُوا فُلَانٌ شَهِيدٌ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «كَلَّا إِنِّي رَأَيْتُهُ فِي النَّارِ فِي عَبَاءَةٍ أَوْ فِي بُرْدَةٍ غَلَّهَا» ثُمَّ قَالَ لِي يَا ابْنَ الْخَطَّابِ قُمْ فَنَادِ فِي النَّاسِ أَنَّهُ لَا يَدْخُلُ الْجَنَّةَ إِلَّا الْمُؤْمِنُونَ فَقُمْتُ فَنَادَيْتُ فِي النَّاسِ

صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالُوا فُلَانٌ شَهِيدٌ وَفُلَانٌ شَهِيدٌ حَتَّى مَرُّوا عَلَى رَجُلٍ فَقَالُوا فُلَانٌ شَهِيدٌ فَقَالَ كَلَّا إِنِّي رَأَيْتُهُ فِي النَّارِ فِي عَبَاءَةٍ غَلَّهَا أَوْ بُرْدَةٍ غَلَّهَا قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَا ابْنَ الْخَطَّابِ اذْهَبْ فَنَادِ فِي النَّاسِ إِنَّهُ لَا يَدْخُلُ الْجَنَّةَ إِلَّا الْمُؤْمِنُونَ فَنَادَيْتُ فِي النَّاسِ وَهَذَا الْحَدِيثُ لَا نَعْلَمُهُ يُرْوَى عَنْ عُمَرَ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِلَّا مِنْ هَذَا الْوَجْهِ

"عن عمر بن الخطاب - ؓ - قال: "لما كان يوم خيبر أهل بعض أصحاب النبي ﷺ فقالوا: فلان شهيدٌ، فلان شهيدٌ، حتى مروا على رجلٍ، فقالوا: فلان شهيدٌ، فقال رسول الله ﷺ : كلَّا، إني رأيته في النَّار في بردَةٍ غَلَّها أو عباءةٍ، ثم قال رسول الله ﷺ : يا بن الخطاب: أذهب فنادِ في الناس أنه لا يدخل الجنة إلا المؤمنون، فخرجت فناديت: ألا إنه لا يدخل الجنة إلا المؤمنون".
