17. Book of Expeditions (1/2)
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ said, "O Allah, bless my Ummah (nation) in their early morning." Whenever the Prophet ﷺ sent out a military expedition, he would send them out in the early morning. This man (mentioned in the narration) was a merchant, and he used to send out his servants in the early morning, so his wealth increased.
17.2 [Machine] On Thursday's Departure...
It was rarely that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ set out on a journey on any day but on a Thursday. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 2605)
17.3 [Machine] In the Goodness of Companionship
"The companion who is the best to Allah is the one who is best to his companion. And the neighbor that is the best to Allah is the one that is best to his neighbor." (Using translation from Tirmidhī 1944)
17.4 [Machine] In the company of the best friends, palaces, and armies
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The best of companions are four, and the best of armies are four thousand, and the best of fortresses are four hundred. And if the number does not exceed twelve thousand, they should remain patient and truthful, for they will prevail despite their small number."
17.5 [Machine] The Imam's Advice on Strategies
[Machine] The translation of the given Arabic text is: "When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ would send a man on a military expedition, he would advise him to fear Allah privately for himself and for those who are with him from the Muslims. He would say, 'Fight in the name of Allah and for the cause of Allah. Fight against those who disbelieve in Allah. Do not deceive, cheat, mutilate, or kill children.'"
17.6 [Machine] Do not wish to meet the enemy.
Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Do not long for meeting your enemy, and ask Allah for safety (from all sorts of evil)." (See Hadith No. 266, Vol. 4) (Using translation from Bukhārī 7237)
17.7 [Machine] In the Supplication during Battle
[Machine] That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to make supplication during the days of Hunayn: "O Allah, with You I seek to achieve, with You I seek to be successful, and with You I fight."
17.8 [Machine] In the invitation to Islam before the battle
“Whenever he appointed a man to lead a military detachment, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ would advise him especially to fear Allah and treat the Muslims with him well. He ﷺ said: ‘Fight in the Name of Allah and in the cause of Allah. Fight those how disbelieve in Allah. Fight but do not be treacherous, do not steal from the spoils of war, do not mutilate and do not kill children. When you meet your enemy from among the polytheists, call them to one of three things. Whichever of them they respond to, accept it from them and refrain from fighting them. Invite them to accept Islam, and if they respond then accept it from them and refrain from fighting them. Then invite them to leave their land and move to the land of the polytheists. Tell them that if they do that, then they will have the same rights and duties as the polytheists. If they refuse, then tell them that they will be like the Muslim Bedouins (who live in the desert), subject to the same rulings of Allah as the believers. But they will have no share of Fay’* or war spoils, unless they fight alongside the Muslims. If they refuse to enter Islam, then ask them to pay the Poll-tax. If they do that, then accept it from them and refrain from fighting them. But if they refuse, then seek the help of Allah against them and fight them. If you lay siege to them and they want you to give them the protection of Allah and your Prophet, do not give them the protection of Allah and your Prophet, rather give them your protection and the protection of your father and your Companions, for if you violate your protection and the protection of your fathers, that is easier than violating the protection of Allah and the protection of His Messenger. If you lay siege to them and they want you to let them come out with a promise of the judgement of Allah and His Messenger ﷺ, do not offer them a promise of the judgement of Allah and His Messenger ﷺ, rather offer them your judgement, because you do not know if you will actually pass (the same as) Allah’s judgement regarding them or not.’” Another chain reports a similar hadith. (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 2858)
[Machine] Abdullah Sufyan said, "I have not heard from Ibn Abi Najeeh regarding the meaning of this hadith."
17.9 [Machine] The capture of the enemy
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ used to change his position during the Fajr prayer and he used to listen. If he heard the Adhan, he would stop, and if he didn't hear the Adhan, he would continue.
17.10 [Machine] In the Battle for the Proclamation of "There is no God but Allah".
[Machine] I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ as part of a delegation from Thaqif. I was in the lower part of the dome where there was no one except the Prophet ﷺ sleeping. Then a man came to him and woke him up, saying, "Go and kill him." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Is he not a witness that there is no god but Allah?" Shu'bah said, "And I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah." The man said, "Yes." The Prophet ﷺ said, "I have been ordered to fight people until they testify that there is no god but Allah. Once they say it, their lives and wealth become inviolable unless it is in accordance with Islamic law." He said, "And he is the one who killed Abu Mas'ud." He said, "And he did not die until he had killed the best man in Ta'if."
17.11 [Machine] It is not permissible to shed the blood of a man who attests that there is no deity except Allah
The blood of a Muslim man who testifies that there is no god but Allah and that I am the Messenger of Allah should not be lawfully shed but only for one of three reasons: married fornicator, soul for soul, and one who deserts his religion separating himself from the community. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 4352)

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent the army of the commanders and said: "Depart and stay for as long as Allah wills." Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ascended the pulpit and commanded for the congregational prayer to be announced.

17.15 [Machine] The slogan
[Machine] I confronted a man and killed him, then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ rewarded me by giving me what the man had taken. Our motto with Khalid bin Al-Walid was "kill."
17.16 [Machine] In the saying of the Prophet ﷺ, the faces shone.
[Machine] We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in the Battle of Hunayn, and we were in a hot and intense day. So, we descended under the shade of the trees and he mentioned a story. Then, he took a handful of soil and struck their faces and said, "The faces were humiliated. Allah has granted victory to the polytheists." Ya'la then said: "His sons told me that their fathers said, 'There was not a single one of us left except that his eyes and mouth were filled with dust.'"
17.17 [Machine] In the marketplace of the Prophet (PBUH)
Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to us while we were in a gathering, "Give me the oath (Pledge of allegiance for: (1) Not to join anything in worship along with Allah, (2) Not to steal, (3) Not to commit illegal sexual intercourse, (4) Not to kill your children, (5) Not to accuse an innocent person (to spread such an accusation among people), (6) Not to be disobedient (when ordered) to do good deeds. The Prophet ﷺ added: Whoever amongst you fulfill his pledge, his reward will be with Allah, and whoever commits any of those sins and receives the legal punishment in this world for that sin, then that punishment will be an expiation for that sin, and whoever commits any of those sins and Allah does not expose him, then it is up to Allah if He wishes He will punish him or if He wishes, He will forgive him." So we gave the Pledge for that. (See Hadith No. 17, Vol. 1) (Using translation from Bukhārī 7213)
17.18 [Machine] In his pledge that they do not flee.
We were one thousand and four hundred on the Day of Hudaibiya. We swore fealty to hiin (the Holy Prophet) and 'Umar was holding the latter's hand (when he was sitting) under the tree (called) Samura (to administer the oath to the Companions). The narrator added: We took oath to the effect that we would not flee (from the battlefield if there was an encounter with the Meccans), but we did not take oath to fight to death. (Using translation from Muslim 1856a)

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was carrying the earth with us on the Day of Ahzab and the whiteness of his belly had been covered with earth. (While engaged in this toil) he was reciting: By God, if Thou hadst not guided us We would have neither been guided aright nor practised charity, Nor offered prayers. Descend on us peace and tranquillity. Behold I these people (the Meccans) refused to follow us. According to another version, he recited: The chieftains (of the tribes) refused to follow us When they contemplated mischief, we rejected it. And with this (verse) he would raise his voice. (Using translation from Muslim 1803a)
