17. Book of Expeditions (2/2)
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ used to dislike spoils of war (Anfal), and he would say, "Let the strong Muslims defend the weak ones."
17.46 [Machine] What came that he said: "Pay the tailor and the seamstress"?
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ used to say, "Pay the tailor and the one being tailored, and beware of cheating in trade, for verily it is a disgrace for its people on the Day of Resurrection."
17.47 [Machine] Prohibition of riding an animal from the spoils and wearing clothes made from it.
[Machine] Indeed, I will not enforce upon you anything except what I have heard from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when he addressed us on the day of the Battle of Khaybar. He said, "Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day should not ride any animal used by Muslims until he has commented upon it, or he said: until it has been tamed." Abu Muhammad said, "I doubt that this could be interpreted as it is." And whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day should not wear a garment taken from the spoils of war until he has purified it.
17.48 [Machine] What came in the narrative of intensity
[Machine] A person was killed on the day of Khaybar, and they said, "So-and-so is a martyr," until they mentioned a man. They said, "So-and-so is a martyr." Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "No, indeed I saw him in Hell, wearing a cloak or a coarse garment." Then he said to me, "O Ibn Al-Khattab, get up and announce among the people that no one will enter Paradise except the believers." So I stood up and called out to the people.
17.49 [Machine] In the punishment of exaggeration
17.50 [Machine] In the rare event when he brings what he exaggerated with.
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "There shall be no plundering, enslaving, or pillaging. And whoever enslaves someone will bring what they have enslaved on the Day of Judgment." [Surah Al-Imran 161]. Abu Muhammad said: "Al-Islaal is theft."
17.51 [Machine] That hands should not be cut off in war.
Junadah ibn AbuUmayyah said: We were with Busr ibn Artat on the sea (on an expedition). A thief called Misdar who had stolen a bukhti she-camel was brought. He said: I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: Hands are not to be cut off during a warlike expedition. Had it not been so, I would have cut it off. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 4408)
17.52 [Machine] In the worker, when something happens to him from his work
Messenger of Allah ﷺ employed an employee (to collect Zakat). The employee returned after completing his job and said, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! This (amount of Zakat) is for you, and this (other amount) was given to me as a present." The Prophet ﷺ said to him, "Why didn't you stay at your father's or mother's house and see if you would be given presents or not?" Then Messenger of Allah ﷺ got up in the evening after the prayer, and having testified that none has the right to be worshipped but Allah and praised and glorified Allah as He deserved, he said, "Now then ! What about an employee whom we employ and then he comes and says, 'This amount (of Zakat) is for you, and this (amount) was given to me as a present'? Why didn't he stay at the house of his father and mother to see if he would be given presents or not? By Him in Whose Hand Muhammad's soul is, none of you will steal anything of it (i.e. Zakat) but will bring it by carrying it over his neck on the Day of Resurrection. If it has been a camel, he will bring it (over his neck) while it will be grunting, and if it has been a cow, he will bring it (over his neck), while it will be mooing; and if it has been a sheep, he will bring it (over his neck) while it will be bleeding." The Prophet ﷺ added, "I have preached you (Allah's Message)." Abu Humaid said, "Then Messenger of Allah ﷺ raised his hands so high that we saw the whiteness of his armpits." (Using translation from Bukhārī 6636)
17.53 [Machine] In the acceptance of gifts from the polytheists
The King Dhu Yazan presented to the apostle of Allah ﷺ a suit of clothes which he had purchased for thirty-three camels or thirty-three she-camels. He accepted it. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 4034)

17.54 [Machine] In the saying of the Prophet (PBUH): "Indeed, we do not seek help from the polytheists.
[Machine] The translation of the given Arabic sentence into English is: "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Verily, we do not seek help from a polytheist.'"

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'If you are in a land as you mentioned, do not eat in their utensils unless you do not find any alternative. If you do not find any alternative, then wash them and eat in them.'"

[Machine] I wore a sock made of leather on the day of Khaybar. He said, "So I approached him and held it tightly." He said, "Then I said, 'I will not give anyone anything of this today.' So I turned around and saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ smiling at me." Abdullah said, "I hope that Humayd heard it from Abdullah."

She said, "O Messenger of Allah, my foster brother claims to have killed a man whom I hired someone to kill, Fulan bin Hubayrah." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ responded, "We have already rewarded the one whom you rewarded, O Umm Hani."
17.60 [Machine] In the prohibition of killing the messengers
[Machine] I went out to find a horse for myself from the magic place, and I passed by a mosque from the mosques of Bani Hanifah, and I heard them saying that Musaylimah is the messenger of Allah. So, I returned to Abdullah bin Mas'ud and informed him, and he sent the police to them, and they captured them and brought them to him. The people repented and retracted their statement, and their path was left except for a man from among them called Abdullah bin Nawahah. He struck his neck, and they said to him, "Have you abandoned the people and killed this man?" He said, "I was sitting with the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) when this man entered, and two men came from Musaylimah, and the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) asked them, 'Do you testify that I am the Messenger of Allah?' They said to him, 'We testify that Musaylimah is the Messenger of Allah.' And he (pbuh) said, 'I believe in Allah and His Messengers. If I were fighting a delegation, I would have killed both of you.' So, for that reason, I killed him and ordered the demolition of their mosque."

17.61 [Machine] In the prohibition of killing non-combatants
"The Messenger of Allah said: 'Whoever kills a Mu'ahad with no justification, Allah will forbid Paradise to him." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 4747)
17.62 [Machine] When the enemy seizes wealth from the Muslims
[Machine] "The 'Adba' belonged to a man from the Banu 'Uqayl tribe. They were captured and their 'Adba' were seized. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed by them while he was tied up and said, 'O Muhammad, why do you take me while you spare the leader of the caravan, and I have embraced Islam?' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'If you were to say this while having control over your affairs, you would have succeeded in all ways.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'We will take you in exchange for the prisoners of war from your tribe.' The prisoners were two men from the companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came riding on a donkey, which had a saddle made of Qatif cloth. He said, 'O Muhammad, I am hungry, so feed me, and I am thirsty, so give me something to drink.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'This is your request.' Then, the man was redeemed with two prisoners. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ detained the 'Adba' for his journey. The Quraysh polytheists were jealous about the plunder of the city, so they took the 'Adba' with them. They captured a Muslim woman and whenever they camped, Abu Muhammad would mention something about their camels in their captives' presence. One night, the woman got up while they were asleep and every time she put her hand on a camel, it would groan. She reached the 'Adba' and rode on the riding camel of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , which was gentle and had a bell, and upon it, she set off towards Madinah. She vowed that if Allah rescued her, she would sacrifice the camel. When she arrived in Madinah, the camel was recognized as the Messenger of Allah's ﷺ camel. So, they brought it to the Prophet ﷺ and informed the woman of her vow. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'It is a bad reward that you have rewarded her with. Verily, Allah has rescued her, so she should sacrifice the camel. There is no fulfillment of a vow in disobedience to Allah or what the son of Adam does not possess.'"

"I came with Ali bin Abi Talib when the Messenger of Allah sent him to the people of Makkah with news of the dissolution of treaty obligations." He said: "How did you announced that no one would enter Paradise but a believing soul, no one was to circumambulate the House naked: whoever had a treaty with the Messenger of Allah, then for its period, or, it extended to four months, and when four months had passed, and that Allah is free from (all) obligations to the idolaters and so is His Messenger. No idolater was to perform Hajj after this year. I kept on announcing it until my vice grew hoarse." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 2958)

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ performed Umrah in the month of Dhu al-Qa'dah. The people of Makkah refused to let him enter until they settled on him staying for three days. When they wrote this agreement, the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ did not approve. They said, "We would not have opposed you if we knew you were the Messenger of Allah, but you are Muhammad ibn Abd Allah." He replied, "I am the Messenger of Allah and I am Muhammad ibn Abd Allah." Ali told him to erase "the Messenger of Allah" from the agreement, but he refused. So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ took the document and although he was not proficient in writing, he wrote: "This is what Muhammad ibn Abd Allah has decided: No one should enter Makkah with weapons except for a sheathed sword, and no one should be prevented from leaving if they intend to follow him. No one should prevent any of his companions from residing in Makkah." After he entered Makkah and fulfilled the agreed-upon days, they came to Ali and said, "Tell your companion to leave us, as the agreed-upon period has passed."

"On the day of (the battle of) Al-Ahzab, Sa'd bin Mu'adh was struck by an arrow such that the upper vein or lower vein of his forearm was severed. So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ tried to stop it with fire, but it made his arm bleed profusely so he left it. Then he did it another time but it caused it to bleed profusely. Upon seeing that he said: 'O Allah! Do not allow my soul depart until my eyes are comforted by elimination of Banu Quraizah.' He pressed his vein closed and it did not bleed a drop before they surrendered to the arbitration of Sa'd bin Mu'adh. He (the Prophet ﷺ) sent to him (Sa'd) who judged that their men should be killed, their women should be spared, and that the Muslims may share them among themselves. With this, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'You have judged according to Allah's judgement for them.' And they were four hundred. Then when he finished killing them, his vein opened up and he died."
