11. Anṣār (2/12)
[Machine] "What entered my heart since I converted was his remembrance."
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ said, "The ceiling of my house was opened while I was in Makkah, and Jibril came down and opened my chest, then he washed it with Zamzam water. Then he brought a golden basin full of wisdom and faith, and he poured it into my chest, and then he closed it." This is narrated by Abdur Rahman bin Abzi from Ubay bin Ka'b.
11.10 [Machine] Abdul Rahman ibn Abza, on the authority of Abu ibn Ka'b
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Verily, Allah has commanded me to recite the Qur'an to you." He (the Prophet) said: "And did my Lord name me for you?" He said: "By the grace of Allah and His mercy, so rejoice with that." This is how Ubayy recited it.
[Machine] To me, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "O Ubayy, I have been commanded to recite a certain Surah to you." I said, "O Messenger of Allah, have I not been mentioned there?" He said, "Yes." I said, "O Abu Al-Mundhir, did you rejoice at that?" He said, "What prevents me? By Allah, He says, 'Say, "By the bounty of Allah and His mercy - so let them rejoice; it is better than what they accumulate"' (Quran 10:58)." Mu'mal said, "I said to Sufyan, 'Is this recitation mentioned in the Hadith?' He said, 'Yes.'"
[Machine] "Narrated by the Prophet ﷺ , he said: Do not curse the wind, but if you see something in it that you dislike, then say: 'O Allah, we ask You for the good of this wind and the good that is in it, and the good that it is sent with. And we seek refuge in You from the evil of this wind, and the evil that is in it, and the evil that it is sent with.'"
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Do not curse the wind, for it is from the breath of Allah. Ask Allah for its goodness, the goodness within it, and the goodness it is sent with. Seek refuge in Allah from its evil, the evil within it, and the evil it is sent with."
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ performed the Fajr prayer with us and left out a verse. Then Ubay came and missed some of the prayer. When he finished, he said, "O Messenger of Allah, was this verse abrogated or did you forget it?" He ﷺ said, "No, I forgot it."
“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to perform Witr and recite: ‘Glorify the Name of your Lord the Most High.’, [Al-A’la (87)] ‘Say: O you disbelievers!” [Al-Kafirun (109)] and ‘Say: Allah is One.”. [Al-Ikhlas (112)] (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 1171)
Ubayy bin Ka'b said: "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to recite in Witr: "Glorify the Name of your Lord, the Most High;" and "Say: O you disbelievers!;' and 'Say: He is Allah, (the) One.' And when he said the salam, he would say: Subhanal-Malikil-Quddus (Glory be to the Sovereign, the Most Holy) three times." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 1729)
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to teach us that when we wake up in the morning, we should be upon the Fitrah (natural inclination) of Islam, and the word of sincerity (Ikhlas), and the Sunnah of our Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, and the religion of our father Ibrahim, who was a true believer and a Muslim, and not among the polytheists. And when we go to sleep at night, we should be upon the same.
[Machine] The Prophet of Allah ﷺ mentioned the Dajjal and said, "One of his eyes will be like a green glass bottle. Seek refuge in Allah from the punishment of the grave."
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ mentioned the Dajjal in his presence and said, "His eye is green like a glass bottle, so seek refuge in Allah from the punishment of the grave."
[Machine] The Prophet of Allah (may ﷺ ) said about the Dajjal (Antichrist) and mentioned something similar to him.
11.11 [Machine] Sulaiman ibn Sard, about Abu ibn Ka'b.
[Machine] The following passage translates to: "Narrated by the Prophet ﷺ, similar to him and Khalad is not mentioned in his hadith, Abdullah bin Khabbab."
[Machine] I read a verse and Ibn Mas'ud recited it differently, so I went to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "Didn't you recite to me the verse like this and that?" He replied, "Yes." Then Ibn Mas'ud said, "Didn't you recite it to me like this and that?" He replied, "Yes, both of you are correct, excellent in recitation." I then asked him to teach me the Quran and he struck my chest and said, "O Ubayy bin Ka'b, I was taught the Quran, and I recited it to you precisely." I said, "On two letters." He asked, "On two letters or three?" The angel with me said, "On three." So I said, "On three," until it reached seven letters, from which there is no other interpretation except for 'Shafin' and 'Kafin' if I say 'Ghafur-ur-Rahim' or 'Samī`an `Alīman' or 'Alīman Samī`an'. Thus, Allah will continue to do so unless you end a verse of punishment with mercy or a verse of mercy with punishment.
[Machine] I read a verse and Ibn Mas'ud read its opposite, then I went to the Prophet ﷺ and mentioned the incident.
[Machine] I read a verse, and Ibn Mas'ud recited it differently, and another man recited it differently. So, I went to the Prophet ﷺ and mentioned the matter.
[Machine] I heard a man reciting, so I said, "Who taught you how to recite?" He said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ ." So I said to him, "Go and bring me to him." I then went to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "I want to learn how to recite." He said, "Recite." So I recited, and he said, "Good job." I then said to him, "Didn't you teach me this and that?" He said, "Yes, but you have done well." I said, "By Allah, you have taught me twice." The Prophet ﷺ then struck my chest with his hand and said, "O Allah, remove doubt from the heart of Ubayy." I immediately started sweating and my chest became wide open. The Prophet ﷺ said, "O Ubayy, two angels came to me. One of them said, 'Teach him one letter,' and the other said, 'Increase it.' So I said, 'Increase me.' Then they said, 'Teach him two letters,' and the other said, 'Increase it.' So I said, 'Increase me.' They continued this way until they said, 'Teach him seven letters.' And indeed, the Quran was revealed with seven letters."
[Machine] He raised it to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "Two angels came to me, and one of them said to the other, 'Teach him'. The other angel asked, 'How much?' He said, 'One letter.' He said, 'Increase it.' He said, 'Until it reached seven letters'."
11.12 [Machine] Abdul Rahman ibn Al-Aswad, narrated from Abu bin Kaab
"In some poetry there is wisdom." (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 3755)
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Indeed, wisdom can be found in poetry." Abu Abdullah bin Saad said, "This is what Ibrahim bin Saad says in his narration from Abdullah bin Al-Aswad. And he is actually Abdullah bin Al-Aswad bin Abd Yaghouth, quoting Ubay bin Ka'b. Similarly, others say this, not Ibrahim bin Saad."
"In some poetry there is wisdom." (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 3755)
[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ mention a hadith. My father and Ibn al-Mubarak agreed on this, meaning they both agreed on Uruwah, and did not say it was Abu Bakr ibn Abdul Rahman.
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Indeed, there is wisdom in poetry." Abdullah ibn al-Mubarak said, "Mamar told me something similar, except that he replaced Abu Bakr with Uruwah."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Indeed, there is wisdom in poetry." Rabi'ah contradicted the narrations of Ibn al-Mubarak and Abdul Razzaq because both of them reported from Urwah who said, "Rabi'ah reported from Abu Bakr ibn Abdul Rahman."
[Machine] He informed him about the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , similar to him.
[Machine] He informed him about the Messenger of Allah ﷺ like him.
[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, so Marwan mentioned it and did not mention it.
11.13 [Machine] Suwayd bin Ghaflah, regarding Abu bin Ka'b.
[Machine] I obtained one hundred Dinars during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , so I asked him about it. He said, "Identify its year." So, I informed him of its year, but I did not find anyone who knew about it. He said, "Identify its number, container, and location." Then, I informed him of its year, and if its owner comes, give it to him; otherwise, it is yours." This is the statement of Waki'. Ibn Numayr said in his hadith, "He said, 'Identify its year.' So, I informed him of its year in different ways. Then, I went to him, and he said, 'Identify its year.' So, I informed him of its year in different ways. Then, I went to him, and he said, 'Identify its year.' So, I informed him of its year in different ways. Then, I went to him again, and he said, 'Know its number, container, and location.' If someone informs you about its number, container, and location, give it to him; otherwise, enjoy it."
[Machine] I found a purse containing one hundred dinars during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . So I went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and informed him about it. He told me to make a public announcement about it, so I did, but I couldn't find anyone who claimed it. I went to him again and told him that I couldn't find anyone who claimed it. He told me to make a public announcement three times. I don't know if he told me that in one year or three years. In the fourth year, he told me to know its quantity and its container. If I found someone who knows it, then give it to him; otherwise, keep it for yourself. This is the narration of Yahya ibn Sa'id, and Muhammad ibn Ja'far added in his narration that when I met him after that in Makkah, he said, "I don't know if it was three situations or one situation."
[Machine] So I said, "Should I not take it and benefit from it rather than the wolf eating it?" Then I met Ubayy ibn Ka'b and I mentioned that to him. He said, "You have done well." Then he said, "I found a bag containing one hundred dinars, so I went to the Prophet ﷺ and mentioned it to him. He said, "Make an announcement about it for a year." So I made an announcement about it for a year. Then I went to him and said, "I have made an announcement about it for a year." He said, "Make an announcement about it for another year." Then he said, "Benefit from it, keep its container and its tear, and count them. If the owner comes, say, 'Jareer,' for I have not kept anything after this, meaning the completion of the narration."

11.14 [Machine] Abdul Rahman bin Abi Layla, from Abu bin Ka'b
[Machine] I was in the mosque when a man entered and recited a reading that I disapproved of. Then another man entered and recited a different reading than his companion's. We all got up and went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , and I said, "O Messenger of Allah, this man recited a reading that I disapproved of, and then this man entered and recited a reading different from his companion's." The Prophet ﷺ said to both of them, "Recite." They recited, and he said, "Both of you are correct." When the Prophet ﷺ said what was difficult for me to bear, as I was still a new convert to Islam, the man who had overwhelmed me struck my chest, causing me to sweat and making me feel as if I were seeing Allah separately. I said, "O Messenger of Allah, my Lord has sent me a message to recite the Quran perfectly, but I asked Him to make it easy for my Ummah (community). He then sent me a message to recite it on two letters, but again I asked Him to make it easy for my Ummah. He finally sent me a message to recite it on seven letters, and with each repetition, there is a matter of importance that I must answer." He said, "What did you say in response?" I said, "O Allah, forgive my Ummah. O Allah, forgive my Ummah." And I saved the third repetition for a day that the creation would desire me until the Day of Judgment, referring to the day of the Prophet's ascension (Isra' and Mi'raj), when Allah honored him.

Allah has commanded you to recite to your people the Qur'an in one dialect. Upon this he said: I ask from Allah pardon and forgiveness. My people are not capable of doing it. He then came for the second time and said: Allah has commanded you that you should recite the Qur'an to your people in two dialects. Upon this he (the Holy prophet) again said: I seek pardon and forgiveness from Allah, my people would not be able to do so. He (Gabriel) came for the third time and said: Allah has commanded you to recite the Qur'an to your people in three dialects. Upon this he said: I ask pardon and forgiveness from Allah. My people would not be able to do it. He then came to him for the fourth time and said: Allah has commanded you to recite the Qur'an to your people in seven dialects, and in whichever dialect they would recite, they would be right. (Using translation from Muslim 821a)

[Machine] I was with the Prophet ﷺ when a Bedouin came and said, "O Prophet of Allah, I have a brother who is suffering from a fever." The Prophet ﷺ asked, "What is his fever like?" He replied, "It is intense." The Prophet ﷺ instructed him to bring his brother to him, so he placed his brother in front of him and the Prophet ﷺ recited the opening verses of Surah Al-Baqarah, and four verses from the beginning of Surah Al-Baqarah, and these two verses: "And your God is one God" [Al-Baqarah 163], and the verse of the Throne, and three verses from the end of Surah Al-Baqarah, and the verse from Surah Al-Imran: "Allah bears witness that there is no deity except Him" [Al-Imran 18], and a verse from Surah Al-A'raf: "Indeed, your Lord is Allah, who created the heavens and the earth," and the last verse of Surah Al-Muminoon: "So exalted is Allah, the Sovereign, the Truth" [Al-Muminoon 116], and a verse from Surah Al-Jinn: "And that our Lord, exalted is the majesty of our Lord" [Al-Jinn 3], and ten verses from the beginning of Surah As-Saffat, and three verses from the end of Surah Al-Hashr, and Say, "He is Allah, [who is] One" and the two protective Surahs. The man then stood up as if he had never complained of anything before.

[Machine] That Gabriel came to the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ while he was with the tribe of Banu Ghifar and said, "O Muhammad, Allah commands you to recite the Quran with precision, and he continued to add to it until it reached seven recitations."

[Machine] Indeed, the Prophet ﷺ was visited by Gabriel, who said, "Verily, Allah commands you to recite the Quran to your Ummah (nation) in seven different dialects. So whichever dialect they recite from, they will have accomplished it correctly."
[Machine] That Gabriel came to the Prophet ﷺ while he was in the appearance of the tribe of Ghifar, and he said, "Indeed, Allah commands you to recite the Qur'an to your nation on one dialect (harf) only." The Prophet said, "I ask Allah for His forgiveness and His pardon." He mentioned the narration until he said, "Indeed, Allah commands you to recite the Qur'an to your nation on seven dialects (ahuruf). So whoever recites a dialect (harf) from them, then it is as he said."

[Machine] Two men came to the Prophet ﷺ and one of them said, "I am so-and-so, the son of so-and-so, who is your mother?" The Prophet ﷺ said, "Two men came to Moses ﷺ and one of them said, 'I am so-and-so, the son of so-and-so, until he counted nine, who is your mother?' The other man said, 'I am so-and-so, the son of so-and-so, the son of Islam.' Then Allah revealed to Moses ﷺ that as for the one who claims to be from the nine in Hell, you are the tenth one and as for the one who claims to be from the two in Paradise, you are the third one in Paradise."

[Machine] I was in the mosque when a man entered and prayed, reciting a verse that I disliked. Then another man entered and prayed, reciting a different verse than his companion. After we finished the prayer, we went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and I said, "O Messenger of Allah, this man recited a verse that I disliked, and then this man entered and recited a verse other than his companion." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to both of them, "Recite." So they recited. Then he said, "You both did well." In my heart, I denied [his words], as if I was still in the time of ignorance [before Islam]. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saw what had covered me, he struck my chest, causing me to sweat and it felt as if I were looking at my Lord with distinctness. He said to me, "O Ubayy, indeed my Lord has sent to me and told me to recite upon a letter, so I replied, 'Make it easy for my Ummah.' He replied to me, 'I have made it easy for your Ummah for reciting upon two letters.' So I replied, 'Make it easy for my Ummah.' He replied to me, 'I have made it easy for your Ummah for reciting upon three letters.' So I replied, 'Make it easy for my Ummah.' He replied to me, 'I have made it easy for your Ummah for reciting upon seven letters.' And for every repetition, I will give you what you ask." So I said, "O Allah, forgive my Ummah, O Allah, forgive my Ummah." And I delayed the third one for a day that people desire to be near to me — the Day of Judgement — until even Ibrahim ﷺ finds enjoyment in me. This is the rest of the narration from Anas ibn Malik, from Ubayy ibn Ka'b.

[Machine] I said to my father, "Abdullah says about the two protecting surahs (Surah Al-Falaq and Surah An-Nas)." He replied, "We asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about them, and he said, 'It is said to me, so I say as he said.' "
