11. Anṣār (3/12)
[Machine] "I asked Ubayy about the two protective surahs (Al-Falaq and An-Nas), and he said that he also asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about them. He said that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ instructed us to recite them."
[Machine] "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ informed me that Gabriel said to him, 'Say: I seek refuge in the Lord of daybreak', so I said it. Then he said, 'Say: I seek refuge in the Lord of mankind', so I said it. And we say what the Prophet ﷺ said."
This tradition has also been narrated on the authority of ‘A’ishah through a different chain. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 99)
[Machine] Abdullah used to recite the Mu'awwizatayn (Verses of Protection) from his copies of the Quran and say that they are not from the book of Allah.
[Machine] I said to my father: "Indeed, your brother is taking them from the Mus'haf." It was said to Sufyan ibn Mas'ud, "Is that true?" He did not deny it. He said, "I asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , and he said, 'It was said to me, so I said it.' "
Sufyan said, "He used to seek refuge for both of them, and they are not in the Mus'haf of Ibn Mas'ud. He would make them a means of seeking protection for al-Hasan and al-Husayn, but he did not recite them in any part of his prayer. So he thought they were two surahs for seeking refuge and persisted in his belief. Those who came after him confirmed that they are from the Qur'an, so they preserved them and entrusted them to him."
[Machine] The companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ were discussing the Night of Decree (Laylat al-Qadr). Ubayy said, "By the One whom there is no god but Him, I know which night it is. It is the night that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ informed us about, the night that falls on the twenty-seventh of Ramadan. The sign of that night is that the sun rises the following morning without any rays." Salamah bin Kuheil claimed that a visitor had informed him that he had observed this phenomenon for three years straight, from the first day of Ramadan to its last, and that he saw the dawn of the twenty-seventh morning without any rays.
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ informed us that the sun rises white and radiant.
[Machine] From the Prophet ﷺ, "There is nothing like it, and it has no equal."
[Machine] May Allah have mercy on Abu Abdul Rahman, he knew that it was in Ramadan, indeed it is on the 27th night. But he pretended to be unaware in order for people not to rely on it. By the One who revealed the Book upon Muhammad, indeed it is on the 27th night of Ramadan. I said, "O Abu Al-Mundhir, how did you come to know?" He said, "By the verse that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ informed us of." So we counted and memorized. By Allah, it is indeed a special night. I asked Zir, "What is the verse?" He said, "Verily, the sun rises, dispersing its rays."
By Allah, I know about Lailat-ul Qadr and I know it fully well that it is the twenty-seventh night (during Ramadan) on which the Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded us to observe prayer. (Shu'ba was in doubt about these words:" the night on which the Messenger of Allah [may peace be upon him] commanded us to observe the prayer." This has been transmitted to me by a friend of mine.) (Using translation from Muslim 762b)
[Machine] For me, it is the night of the twenty-seventh, and indeed it is the one that is exempted by the verse that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ informed us about. So we counted and calculated, and indeed it is the one that is exempted.
[Machine] May Allah have mercy on Abu Abdullah. By Allah, he knew that it was in Ramadan, but he preferred not to rely on it. Indeed, it is the night of the twenty-seventh. I said, O Abu al-Mundhir, how did you know that? He said, through the verse that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ told us: "On the morning of the Night of Decree, the sun rises without rays, as if it were a basin, until it rises up," and this is the wording of the Hadith of al-Muqaddamiyyin.
[Machine] Translate the following passage into English: "So I said, 'O Abu Al-Mundhir, how did you come to know about this?' He said, 'Through the verse that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ informed us about.'"
[Machine] "About the Prophet ﷺ? He said, 'That's how it is with me.'"
[Machine] He said regarding the night of Al-Qadr (the Night of Decree), "Whoever stands for it, casting off sleep, will be rewarded." So I set out until I arrived at Uthman ibn Affan and I wanted to meet the Companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ from the Emigrants and the Helpers. Asim narrated to me that Uqbah ibn Ka'b and Abdur-Rahman ibn Awf used to stand for prayer when the sun set and perform two units of prayer before Maghrib. So I said to Ubay, who had a harsh demeanor, "Lower your wing over us, may Allah have mercy on you, because I am only enjoying myself with you. "He said, "Do you want to leave out any verse from the Qur'an without asking me about it?" He said, "And I had a companion who spoke the truth, so I said, 'O Abu Mundhir, tell me about the Night of Decree.' For Ibn Mas'ud says, 'Whoever stands for it, casting off sleep, will be rewarded.' " He said, "By Allah, Abdullah knew that it is in Ramadan, but he concealed it from the people so that they would not rely on it. By Allah, who sent down the Book upon Muhammad ﷺ, it is indeed in Ramadan, and it is the night of the twenty-seventh." So I said, "O Abu Mundhir, how do you know that?" He said, "Through the verse that Muhammad ﷺ informed us of." So we counted and memorized it, and by Allah, it is a sign that is not excepted." He said, "So I said, 'And what is the verse?' He said, 'It rises when the sun rises, it has no rays until it rises and becomes white and ascends.'"
[Machine] Narrated by the Prophet ﷺ: "Whoever follows a funeral procession until the funeral prayer is offered and the burial is done, will receive two Qirats (of reward). And whoever follows it until the burial is done will receive one Qirat. And by the One in whose hand is the soul of Muhammad, it is heavier in his scale than Mount Uhud."
[Machine] Indeed, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Verily, Allah has commanded me to recite the Qur'an to you." He said: "So he recited, 'Those who disbelieved from the People of the Scripture' [Al-Bayyinah, 1]." He said: "So he recited, 'Even if the son of Adam had a valley full of wealth, he would ask for another and even if he was given another, he would ask for a third. Nothing fills the stomach of the son of Adam except dust. And Allah forgives those who repent.' And indeed, this religion is upright with Allah - the Hanif faith, which is not associated with polytheism, nor Judaism, nor Christianity. And whoever does good, it will never be negated for him."
[Machine] "O Messenger of Allah, indeed Allah has commanded me to recite upon you." He (the Prophet) said, "So recite upon me." He (the reciter) recited upon me, 'Those who disbelieved from the People of the Scripture and the polytheists were not to be parted [from misbelief] until there came to them clear evidence - a Messenger from Allah, reciting purified scriptures within which are upright writings. Nor did those who were given the Scripture become divided until after there had come to them clear evidence. And they were not commanded except to worship Allah, [being] sincere to Him in religion, inclining to truth, and to establish prayer and to give zakah. And that is the correct religion.' Indeed, the religion in the sight of Allah is Islam. And those who were given the Scripture did not differ except after knowledge had come to them - out of jealous animosity between themselves. And whoever disbelieves in the verses of Allah, then indeed, Allah is swift in [taking] account. Shu'bah said, then he recited after that and he recited, "If the son of Adam had two valleys of wealth, he would long for a third, and nothing would satisfy the stomach of the son of Adam except dust. Then he sealed it with the remaining portion of the passage."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , met Jibril among the mountains of Mira. The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , said to Jibril, "I have been sent to a nation who are illiterate, among them are the elderly, the old women, and young boys." Jibril said, "Guide them, and let them recite the Quran with seven different pronunciations."
[Machine] The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ met Gabriel (the Angel) near the stones of Mira, and they discussed a matter.
[Machine] I have read it with the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , similar to Al-Baqarah or more than it, and indeed it contains the verse of stoning.
[Machine] "Cat, I have indeed seen her and she is equivalent to the length of Surah Al-Baqarah. We have also read in it (the Quran) that the Sheikh and the Sheikha, if they commit adultery, stone them immediately as a punishment from Allah. And Allah is Almighty, Wise."
[Machine] I said to Ubayy ibn Ka'b, "If the wives of the Prophet ﷺ died, would it be permissible for him to get married again?" He replied, "And what would prohibit him from doing so?" I said, "I say this based on the verse, 'O Prophet, indeed We have made lawful to you your wives whom you have given their due compensation...' (Surah Al-Ahzab 33:52)." He said, "Indeed, this permission was granted only to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ as a special concession."
[Machine] On the night of the twenty-seventh, I said to Abu Al-Mundhir, "How did you know that?" He said, "By the verse that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ informed us about." So we counted and memorized it. The sign of that is when the sun rises in the morning, it appears like a cooking container with no rays until it rises.
[Machine] The translation of the passage "لَيْلَةُ الْقَدْرِ لَيْلَةُ سَبْعٍ وَعِشْرِينَ" into English is "The Night of Decree is the night of the twenty-seventh."
[Machine] The passage translates to: "The night of Qadr (Night of Power) is a night within the last ten nights of Ramadan, and it is not known specifically which night it falls on."
11.17 [Machine] Abu Uthman Al-Nahdi, from Abu bin Ka'b
[Machine] So, when he mentions the sins to the mosque, he asked the Prophet ﷺ and he said, "Indeed, for him with every step is a degree."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Verily, you shall have what you have anticipated."
[Machine] There was a man in the city that I didn't know anyone who lived farther away from the mosque than him. So, he was advised, "If you were to buy a donkey and ride it during the day and night, it would still not bring you as close to the mosque as your house, or he said, your place, is." So the incident was narrated to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, who said, "What did you intend by saying, 'It does not please me that my house, or he said, my place, is next to the mosque'?" He said, "I intended that my coming to the mosque and my returning to my family would be recorded as acts of obedience." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Allah has given you all of that, or Allah has given you what you intended, or Allah has given you all of that which you intended."
[Machine] "Translation: There was a man who used to come to the prayer, and it was said to him, 'If you had taken a donkey to protect you from thorns, branches, and falling', and he said: Shu'bah mentioned Rabee'ah who said that Al-Mahluufah said, 'I do not like to be beaten with the whip of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ .' So, this was mentioned to the Prophet ﷺ , and he said to him: 'You will have what you intended or you will have the reward of what you intended.' Shu'bah said: He said that."
[Machine] There was a man whom I have not known from the people, a man from the people of the city, who was furthest in distance from the mosque but still prayed towards the Qiblah. He used to attend all the prayers with the Prophet ﷺ . So, I said to him, "If only you bought a donkey to ride during the intense heat and darkness." He replied, "By Allah, I would not like my house to be farther from the mosque of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ." Then, I informed the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about this, and he asked him about it. He said, "O Prophet of Allah, it is so that my trace, my return to my family, and my approach to them may be written down for me, or something similar to that." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Allah has granted you all of that or will give you what you seek."
There was a person among the Ansar whose house was situated at the farthest end of Medina, but he never in missed any prayer along with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. We felt pity for him and said to him: O, so and so, had you bought a donkey it would have saved you from the burning sand and would have saved you from the reptiles of the earth. He said: Listen I by Allah, I do not like my house to be situated by the side of Muhammad ﷺ. I took (these words of his) ill and came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and informed him about (these words). He (the Holy Prophet) called him and he said exactly like that (which he had mentioned to Ubbay b. Ka'b), but made a mention of this (also) that he wanted a reward for his steps. Upon this the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: In fact for you is the reward which you expect. (Using translation from Muslim 663c)
[Machine] "That a man disrespected him, so Al-Obayy bin Hin said to his father, and they said, 'Were you not a generous person?' He said, 'We were commanded to do so by the narration of Abi Al-Ala'a Al-Riyahi from Ubayy bin Ka'ab.'"

11.18 [Machine] My father Al'Aliyah Al-Riyahi, about Abu bin Kaab
[Machine] The polytheists said to the Prophet ﷺ, "O Muhammad, describe to us your Lord." So Allah, the Exalted and the Mighty, revealed, {Say, "He is Allah, [who is] One, Allah, the Eternal Refuge. He neither begets nor is born, nor is there to Him any equivalent."} [Surah Al-Ikhlas 1-4].
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Give glad tidings to this Ummah (nation) of honor, elevation, religion, victory, and empowerment in the land. He was uncertain about the sixth. He said, 'So whoever among them works for the Hereafter, while seeking the world, he will have no share in the Hereafter.' Abdullah said, 'My father, Abu Salama, said, 'This is Mu'gheerah ibn Muslim, the brother of Abdul Aziz ibn Muslim Al-Qasimali'."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Give glad tidings to this Ummah (nation) of success, elevation, victory, and empowerment in the land. Whoever from among them works for the hereafter at the expense of the worldly life, he shall not have a share in the hereafter." And this is the presented phrase.
from thr Prophet ﷺ who said, "Give glad tidings to this nation of honor, victory, and stability. Yet, whoever does a deed of the Hereafter for the sake of the world, he will have no share of it in the Hereafter."
[Machine] The messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Give glad tidings to this nation of prosperity, power in the lands, victory, and honor in religion. And whoever does actions of the hereafter for worldly gains will have no share in the hereafter."
An eclipse of the sun took place in the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. The Prophet ﷺ led them in prayer. He recited one of the long surahs, bowing five times and prostrating himself twice. He then stood up for the second rak'ah, recited one of the long surahs, bowed five times, prostrated himself twice, then sat where he was facing the qiblah and made the supplication till the eclipse was over. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1182)
[Machine] "That this is the last of what was revealed from the Quran. Ubayy ibn Ka'b said to them, 'Indeed, the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , recited to me after it two verses: 'There has certainly come to you a Messenger from among yourselves. Grievous to him is what you suffer; [he is] concerned over you and to the believers is kind and merciful.' [Quran 9:128] until 'And He is the Lord of the Great Throne.' [Quran 9:129]. Then he said, 'This is the last of what was revealed from the Quran.' He said, 'It was sealed with what was opened with, 'In the name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Especially Merciful.' And it is the saying of Allah, blessed and exalted, 'And We did not send before you, [O Muhammad], any messenger except that We revealed to him that, 'There is no deity except Me, so worship Me.' [Quran 21:25]."
[Machine] In His saying, blessed and exalted be He, "He is able to send upon you a punishment from above you" [Al-An'am 65], He said there are four of them and each of them is a punishment and each of them is inevitable. So two of them passed after the death of the Prophet ﷺ by twenty-five years, and they were divided into sects and some of them tasted the suffering of others, and two of them remained, which are inevitable: the collapse and the stoning.
[Machine] In His saying {Say, "He is the [one] Able"} [Al-An'am: 65], He mentioned something similar and He said in His speech the occurrence of collapsing and stoning.
[Machine] "On the day of Uhud, sixty-four men from the Ansar and six men from the Muhajireen were killed. The companions of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said, 'If we have a day like this against the polytheists, we will prevail over them.' Then, on the day of the conquest, a man who was not known to the Quraysh declared, and a caller announced that no one should harm certain individuals. Allah, the Most High, revealed: 'And if you punish [an enemy], punish with an equivalent of that which you were harmed. But if you are patient - it is better for those who are patient.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'We will be patient and not retaliate.'"

They were killed, and the Ansar said, 'If we encounter them again even for a day, we will take revenge on them.' Then, on the day of the conquest of Mecca, a man who was not recognized by the Quraysh after that day called out. So, the Prophet of Allah ﷺ said, 'Cease your retaliations against the people.'"

[Machine] He gathered them and made them souls, then he shaped them and made them speak. Then He took their covenant and agreement and asked them, "Am I not your Lord?" They said, "Indeed, we testify." [This We did] lest you should say on the Day of Resurrection, "Indeed, we were of this unaware." Or [lest] you say, "It was only that our fathers associated [others in worship] with Allah before, and we were but descendants after them. Then would You destroy us for what the falsifiers have done?" And thus do We [explain in] detail the verses, and [We] have revealed [this Qur'an] to you [O Muhammad] that you may inform the people of that which they dispute concerning and that it may be a guidance and mercy for a people who believe. And [recall] when We took from the prophets their covenant and from you and from Noah and Abraham and Moses and Jesus, the son of Mary; and We took from them a solemn covenant.

[Machine] "That a man took pride in the custom of the pre-Islamic era, so I disapproved of him but did not rebuke him. People then looked at him, and he said to the people, 'I can see what you have in yourselves. I could not help but say this. Indeed, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded us that if we hear someone taking pride in the customs of the pre-Islamic era, we should disapprove of them and do not imitate them.'"
