[Machine] "Whoever recites in one night five verses will not be recorded among the heedless, and whoever recites one hundred verses will be recorded among the obedient, and whoever recites three hundred verses will be granted a mountain of reward, and whoever recites seven hundred verses will be successful."
[Machine] Abdullah used to prostrate when the sky split open.
[Machine] I prostrated (performed sujud) with Umar and with Abdullah when the sky split. Al-Aswad said, "As for one of them, I have no doubts about him."
[Machine] I saw Abdullah and Omar, or one of them, prostrate when the heavens split.
[Machine] That Abdullah used to prostrate to the star and recite in the name of your Lord who created.
[Machine] Abdullah: "Whoever recites Surat Al-A'raf or An-Najm or when the heaven split open or the Children of Israel or recite in the name of your Lord who created, and He wished to conclude them with a bowing position, then the prostration of the bowing is to be considered as his recitation. And if he prostrates, let him add another surah to it."
[Machine] Whoever recites Al-A'raf and An-Najm and recites with the name of your Lord who created, he desired to bow down with the last of them, he performed the prostration of bowing and if he prostrates, let him add a surah to it.
[Machine] "Whoever recites Al-A'raf and An-Najm and recites in the name of his Lord who created, if he wishes, he can perform a bow with it and he will be rewarded, and if he wishes, he can prostrate, and then stand up and recite the Surah, and bow, and prostrate."
[Machine] Ibn Mas'ood used to prostrate when he recited the verse about the star in front of people and when he recited it in his prayer, he also performed the bow and prostration (in response to it).
[Machine] "There is nothing wrong with smiling during prayer."
[Machine] "That Abdullah ibn Mas'ud used to prostrate at the first verse of Ha-Mim, a revelation from the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful."
[Machine] Abdullah, indeed the prayers are the good deeds and the expiation between the first prayer and Asr prayer is the Asr prayer, and the expiation between Asr prayer and Maghrib prayer is the Maghrib prayer, and the expiation between Maghrib prayer and darkness is the Isha prayer. Then the Muslim retreats to his bed, having no sin as long as he avoids the major sins, then he recites, "Indeed, good deeds remove evil deeds."
عَبْدُ اللهِ إِنَّ الصَّلَوَاتِ هُنَّ الْحَسَنَاتُ وَكَفَّارَةُ مَا بَيْنَ الْأُولَى إِلَى الْعَصْرِ صَلَاةُ الْعَصْرِ وَكَفَّارَةُ مَا بَيْنَ صَلَاةِ الْعَصْرِ إِلَى الْمَغْرِبِ صَلَاةُ الْمَغْرِبِ وَكَفَّارَةُ مَا بَيْنَ الْمَغْرِبِ إِلَى الْعَتَمَةِ صَلَاةُ الْعَتَمَةِ ثُمَّ يَأْوِي الْمُسْلِمُ إِلَى فِرَاشِهِ لَا ذَنْبَ لَهُ مَا اجْتَنَبَ الْكَبَائِرَ ثُمَّ قَرَأَ {إِنَّ الْحَسَنَاتِ يُذْهِبْنَ السَّيِّئَاتِ}
[Machine] "Abdullah bin Masood said: 'You are being consumed (by the fire), until when you pray the Fajr prayer, it is washed away. Then you are being consumed (by the fire) until when you pray the Dhuhr prayer, it is washed away. You are being consumed (by the fire) until when you pray the Asr prayer, it is washed away. Until the prayers are completed like this.'"
[Machine] "These prayers are true expiations for what is between them provided that major sins are avoided."
[Machine] "The prayers are expiations for whatever sins have been avoided."
[Machine] We used to read on Abu Abd al-Rahman al-Sulami while he was walking. Whenever we passed by the prostration area, he would say the takbir (Allahu Akbar) and we would say the takbir as well. He would prostrate and we would prostrate with a gesture, raising his head and saying "As-Salamu 'Alaykum" (Peace be upon you), and we would reply with "Wa 'Alaykum As-Salam" (And peace be upon you). Abu Abd al-Rahman claimed that Abdullah used to do this with them.
[Machine] Whoever among you reads the Qur'an, let him learn the obligations. If he meets a Bedouin and he asks him, "O Emigrant, do you read the Qur'an?" and he answers, "Yes," then the Bedouin asks, "Do you perform the obligatory acts, O Emigrant?" If he answers, "Yes," the Bedouin says, "You have both increased in good and surpassed me." But if he answers, "No, I do not do them well," the Bedouin asks, "So what is your advantage over me, O Emigrant?"
[Machine] "By Allah! There is no deity except Him. There is nothing on the face of the earth more in need of being imprisoned than the tongue."
[Machine] Abdullah said, "By Allah, there is no one worthy of worship except Him, nothing on the face of the Earth is more in need of being imprisoned than the tongue."
[Machine] "Abdullah said, 'There is nothing on earth that deserves a longer prison sentence than (the harm caused by) the tongue.'"
[Machine] I heard Abdullah ibn Mas'ood saying, "There is nothing more deserving of long imprisonment than the tongue."
[Machine] Indeed, sins are like rust that accumulates on hearts, so if there is anything troubling the heart of any one of you, they should let it go.
[Machine] There was no gaze but that it had desire of Satan in it, and sin encircles the hearts.
[Machine] "Abdullah said, 'Beware of the heart's weaknesses.'"
[Machine] He who listens, Allah listens to him. He who sees, Allah sees him on the Day of Resurrection. And whoever humbles himself before Allah in humility, Allah raises him on the Day of Resurrection.
[Machine] "Seek knowledge, whether you are a scholar or a student, and do not seek anything else. If you do not, then love the scholars and do not hate them."
[Machine] Abdullah advised his son Abdul Rahman saying, "I advise you to fear Allah, may your house suffice you, and cry over your sin, and I have control over your tongue."
[Machine] "A man folds and treasures every single dirham and dinar, until his skin stretches to accommodate each individual dirham and dinar separately."
[Machine] "Get accustomed to doing good, for indeed good becomes customary. And guard your intentions in prayer."
Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "If Allah wants to do good for somebody, he makes him comprehend the Religion (i.e. Islam), and Allah is the Giver and I am Al-Qasim (i.e. the distributor), and this (Muslim) nation will remain victorious over their opponents, till Allah's Order comes and they will still be victorious." (Using translation from Bukhārī 3116)
[Machine] "Whoever desires the Hereafter harms his worldly life; and whoever desires the worldly life harms his Hereafter. So, He has commanded them to harm the perishable for the eternal."
[Machine] I was in a hunting expedition when Abdullah came to me. He sent me to my family with some items, and a servant came with us. They had been traveling with camels for four days. I went with him to Abdullah, and when I arrived, he asked me, "From where did you bring this bird?" I said, "Servants brought it to us. They had been traveling with camels for four nights." Abdullah said, "I wish I were in a place of hunting where I don't speak to anyone, and no one speaks to me until I meet with Allah."
[Machine] "And Allah, there is no god except Him, there is no living soul except that death is better for it, whether it be righteous or wicked. Indeed, Allah says, 'And that which is with Allah is better for the righteous' and 'And let not those who disbelieve think that what We extend to them [in life] is better for them. We only extend it to them that they may increase in sin.'"
وَاللهِ الَّذِي لَا إِلَهَ غَيْرُهُ مَا مِنْ نَفْسٍ حَيَّةٍ إِلَّا الْمَوْتُ خَيْرٌ لَهَا إِنْ كَانَ بِرًّا إِنَّ اللهَ ﷻ يَقُولُ {وَمَا عِنْدَ اللهِ خَيْرٌ لِلْأَبْرَارِ} وَإِنْ كَانَ فَاجِرًا إِنَّ اللهَ ﷻ يَقُولُ {وَلَا يَحْسَبَنَّ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا أَنَّمَا نُمْلِي لَهُمْ خَيْرٌ لِأَنْفُسِهِمْ إِنَّمَا نُمْلِي لَهُمْ لِيَزْدَادُوا إِثْمًا}
[Machine] "O people, learn! For whoever learns, let them act."
[Machine] Abdullah said, "A people will come who will drink knowledge plentifully."
[Machine] "You have spoken the truth, and there is no god but Him."
[Machine] "Abdullah said, 'I do not know any of you who has the endurance of a camel in the darkness of the night and the heat of the day.'"
[Machine] "Do not imitate the religion of anyone among you, for if he believes, he will believe, and if he disbelieves, he will disbelieve. If you are to follow anyone, follow the one who has passed away, for the living are not safe from trials."
[Machine] Abdullah said, "None of you should become a blind follower (Immaah)." They asked, "What is a blind follower, O Abu Abdur Rahman?" He replied, "It means that I follow the people; if they are guided, then I am guided, and if they go astray, then I go astray. So none of you should rely solely on himself, thinking that if the people disbelieve, he will not disbelieve."
[Machine] "We used to call the person who comes to eat without being invited 'al-immah'. Indeed, al-immah among you is the one whose religion is looted."
[Machine] "We used to call the hypocrite during the time of ignorance a man who was invited to food, and a man would follow him on the day when people would question his religion. And we used to call the lies magic, but it is now said 'he said, she said'."
[Machine] "You are more devoted to prayer and display more willingness to strive than the companions of Muhammad ﷺ , even though they were better than you." They asked, "Why is that, O Abu Abdul Rahman?" He replied, "Because they were more detached from worldly desires and more eager for the hereafter."
[Machine] "Follow and do not innovate, for you have been sufficed with every innovation of misguidance."
[Machine] "The entire earth will be fire on the Day of Resurrection, and Paradise is behind it; they will see its hills and cups. And by the One in whose hand is the soul of Abdullah, indeed a man will be, to the extent that he would be soaked in sweat to the point that it would flow on the ground, his sweat literally dripping beneath him, then he will rise until it reaches his nose, and he will not be touched by the Reckoning." They said, "From what is that, O Messenger of Allah?" He said, "From what people see and confront."
[Machine] Abdullah said, "By the One in whose hands is the true God, Abdullah does not have good thoughts about anyone unless he gives reason for it, as goodness is in his hands."
[Machine] Abdullah asked his wife, "Is today better or yesterday?" She replied, "I don't know." He then said, "But I know that yesterday was better than today, and today is better than tomorrow, and so on until the Hour is established."
[Machine] Abdullah came out to us one day while he looked sad, so we asked him what's the matter with him. He replied, "The best part of this world is gone, and all that remains is sorrow. Death is a gift today for every Muslim."
[Machine] The passage translates to: "The joy of the world has gone, and only sorrow remains. Death today is a treasure for every Muslim."
